This research is about a comfort sensing system for human environmental monitoring using a one-bodied humidity and temperature sensor and an air flow sensor. The thermal comfort that a human being feels in indoor environment has been known to be influenced mostly by six parameters, i.e. air temperature, radiation, air flow, humidity, activity level and clothing thermal resistance. Considering an environmental monitoring, we have designed and fabricated a one-bodied humidity and temperature sensor and an air flow sensor that detect air relative humidity, temperature and air flow in human environment using surface micromachining technologies. Micro-controller calculates a PMV (predicted mean vote) and CSV (comfort sensing vote) with sensing signals and display a PMV on LCD (liquid crystal display) for human comfort on indoor climate. Our work has demonstrated that a comfort sensing system can provide an effective means of measuring and monitoring the indoor comfort sensing index of a human being. Experimental results with simulated environment clearly suggest that our comfort sensing system can be used in many applications such as air conditioning system, feedback controlling in automobile, home and hospital etc..
Flow accelerated corrosion (FAC) is a type of pipe corrosion in which the pipe thickness decreases depending on the fluid flow conditions. In nuclear power plants, FAC mainly occurs in the carbon steel pipes of a secondary system. However, because the temperature of a secondary system pipe is over 150 ℃, in situ monitoring using a conventional ultrasonic non-destructive testing method is difficult. In our previous study, we developed a waveguide ultrasonic thickness measurement system. In this study, we applied a waveguide ultrasonic thickness measurement system to monitor the thinning of the pipe according to the change in pH. The Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute installed FAC-proof facilities, enabling the monitoring of internal fluid flow conditions, which were fixed for ~1000 h to analyze the effect of the pH. The measurement system operated without failure for ~3000 h and the pipe thickness was found to be reduced by ~10% at pH 9 compared to that at pH 7. The thickness of the pipe was measured using a microscope after the experiment, and the reliability of the system was confirmed with less than 1% error. This technology is expected to also be applicable to the thickness-reduction monitoring of other high-temperature materials.

In this paper, we propose an industrial fluid monitoring system which performs the flow control function and monitors fluid pressure transmitted from MFC(Mass Flow Controller) unit. This system consists of MFC unit, channel device, and monitoring management software. MFC unit transmits the measured data of the fluid pressure to the channel device which would provide the input/output interface between management software, monitoring and MFC unit. The monitoring and management software control and analyze by monitoring real time measurements of fluid pressure from each channel of MFC unit. This software can process 20 channels and 0.1 monitoring cycle which gives 200 data measurement per second (i.e., 720,000 data/hour). At this time, the storage space increases in proportion to the rise of input data. This growth of data and storage space makes loss of data access efficiency. Therefore, it demands the implementation by sensing scheme of change scope and data, which can effectively manage the data.
The effects of pharmacist's intervention for asthma patients using self-monitoring of peak expiratory flow rate in medication teaching model was evaluated for 3 months in improving clinical outcomes including emergency visits, hospitalizations, antibiotics use, symptoms and sleep disturbance. Twenty seven patients were enrolled in study and twenty three patients completed the follow-up schedules. The selected patients were given the pre-designed instruction for medication including appropriate use of medication, metered-dose inhaler(MDI) technique, identifying and controling asthma triggers and recognizing early signs of deterioration. There were significant improvements in clinical outcomes, in terms of emergency visits, hopitalizations, antibiotics use, symptoms and sleep disturbance. There were also significant improvements in the MDI use, environmental control, and medication knowledges. There was a progressive increase in peak expiratory flow rate during the three-month intervention. In conclusion, pharmacist's intervention using self-monitoring of peak expiratory flow rate has a significant impact on improving clinical outcomes in asthma patients.

Liposomal restructuring induced by hemolytic Listeria monocytogenes was investigated by using flow cytometry. When added to calcein-entrapped liposomes, hemolytic, but not non-hemolytic, Listeria monocytogenes were able to induce reformation of vesicles. Such restructuring of liposomes was easily monitored by flow cytometry. Electron microscopy also indicated major changes in the challenged liposomal structures. The preliminary results described may offer a simple and fast method for monitoring liposomal restructuring and for differentiating between hemolytic and non-hemolytic bacteria.

The impacts of turbidity flow induced by summer rainfall events on water supply, aquatic ecosystems, and socioeconomics are significant and major concerns in most of reservoirs operations. As a decision support tool, the real-time turbidity flow monitoring and modeling system RTMMS is under development using a laterally integrated two-dimensional (2D) hydrodynamic and water quality model. The objectives of this paper is to present the preliminary field observation results on the characteristics of rainfall-induced turbidity flows and their density flow regimes, and the model performance in replicating the fate and transport of turbidity plume in a reservoir. The rainfall-induced turbidity flows caused significant drop of river water temperature by 5 to $10^{\circ}C$ and resulted in density differences of 1.2 to $2.6kg/m^3$ between inflow water and ambient reservoir water, which consequently led development of density flows such as plunge flow and interflow in the reservoir. The 2D model was set up for the reservoir. and applied to simulate the temperature stratification, density flow regimes, and temporal and spatial turbidity distributions during flood season of 2004 After intensive refinements on grid resolutions , the model showed efficient and satisfactory performance in simulating the observed reservoir thermal stratification and turbidity profiles that all are essentially required to enhance the performance of RTMMS.
Flow injection analysis technique for monitoring of xylitol concentrations in biological processes has been developed using xylitol oxidase (XYO) immobilized on VA-Epoxy Biosynth carrier. The immobilized XYO cartridge has been integrated into a FIA system with an oxygen electrode and systematically investigated with regards to the factors which can affect the activity of the immobilized XYO, such as pH, temperature, salt concentration etc. The activity of the immobilized XYO increased with the temperature ($19.0 - 29.0^{circ}C$) and sample injection volume ($75-250\muL$) and molarity of potassium phosphate buffer (0.1-1 M), but it reached the highest value at pH 8.5. The XYO-FIA system has been also applied for on-line monitoring of xylitol concentrations in a reactor and showed good operational stability and agreement with off-line data measured with HPLC.

In this study, the seepage flow monitoring method by hydaulic head loss rate graph was developed for the purpose of monitoring the seepage flow from the see side or from the lake on sea dike in which seepage force was varied periodically. The hydraulic head loss rate was defined in this method. The value of the rate is in the range from 0 to 1. the value of 0 means perfectly free flow of seepage. the value of 1 means perfect waterproofing. The value of coefficient of determination in the hydraulic head loss rate graph closer to 1 means that the seepage flow way is stable. The value of coefficient of determination in the hydraulic head loss rate graph closer to 0 means that the hole may exist or the piping may be in the progress. The pore water pressure data measured in Saemangeum sea dike was analyzed with the developed method The result showed that the variation of seepage flow state was detected sensitively by this method and the interception effect of sea dike could be estimated quantitatively.
QoS monitoring is a kind of real-time systems which allows each level of the system to track the ongoing QoS levels achieved by the lower network layers. For these systems, real-time communications between corresponding transport protocol objects is essential for their correct behavior. When two or more entities are employed to perform a certain task as in the case of communication protocols, the capability to do so is called interoperability and considered as the essential aspect of correctness of communication systems. This paper describes a formal approach on modeling and interoperability test case generation of a real-time QoS monitoring protocol. For this, we specify the behavior of flow monitoring of transport layer QoS protocol, i.e., METS protocol, which is proposed to address QoS from an end-to-end's point of view, based on QoS architecture model which includes ATM net work in lower layers. We use a real-time Input/Output finite State Machine to model the behavior of real-time flow monitoring over time. From the modeled real-time I/OFSM, we generate interoperability test cases to check the correctness of METS protocol's flow monitoring behaviors for two end systems. A new approach to efficient interoperability testing is described and the method of interoperability test cases generation is shown with the example of METS protocol's flow monitoring. The current TTCN is not appropriate for testing real-time and multimedia systems. Because test events in TTCN are for message-based system and not for stream-based systems, the real-time in TTCN can only be approximated. This paper also proposes the notation of real-time Abstract Test Suite by means of real-time extension of TTCN. This approach gives the advantages that only a few syntactical changes are necessary, and TTCN and real-time TTCN are compatible. This formal approach on interoperability testing can be applied to the real-time protocols related to IMT-2000, B-ISDN and real-time systems.

During the rainy season, heavy downpours are always a source of concern for the world. Flooding and heavy rains can devastate communities, disrupt agriculture, and contribute to traffic accidents.. Weir and flow hall effect sensors are the conventional analytical methods for measuring flow rate; in this paper, we analyzed manhole flowrate statistics. The measurement of the flow rate of a notch/weir is a time-consuming task that necessitates continuous mathematical analysis. . We created three types of IoT sensors in this study: (HC-SR04 ultrasonic, YF-S201 magnetic, and HB100 radar), which take the sensor's real-time input signal and estimate the flow using a notch equation and a previously calibrated optimized coefficient of discharge. The proposed systems are cost-effective, but in terms of accuracy, we found that the HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor is the best of the three systems
