  • The aim of this paper is to study the mechanical behaviors of the cold-formed thin-walled steel and reinforced concrete sandwich composite slab (CTS&RC-SCS) under vertical loads and to develop the calculation methods of its flexural bearing capacity and section stiffness. Two CTS&RC-SCS specimens were designed and manufactured to carry out the static loading test, and meanwhile, the numerical simulation analyses based on finite element method were implemented. The comparison between experimental results and numerical analysis results shows that the CTS&RC-SCS has good flexural capacity and ductility, and the accuracy and rationality of the numerical simulation analysis are verified. Further, the variable parameter analysis results indicate that neither increasing the concrete strength grade nor increasing the thickness of C-sections can significantly improve the flexural capacity of CTS&RC-SCS. With the increase of the ratio of longitudinal bars and the thickness of the composite slab, the flexural capacity of CTS&RC-SCS will be significantly increased. On the basis of experimental research and numerical analysis above, the calculation formula of the flexural capacity of CTS&RC-SCS was deduced according to the plastic section design theory, and section stiffness calculation formula was proposed according to the theory of transformed section. In terms of the ultimate flexural capacity and mid-span deflection, the calculated values based on the formulas and the experimental values are in good agreement.

  • Flexural strength of concrete ground slab reinforced with steel fiber is evaluated using the equivalent flexural strength ratio of steel fiber reinforced concrete based on the yield line theory. Recently, the European standard specifies that the tensile performance of the steel fiber reinforced concrete be evaluated directly from the residual flexural strength after the cracking of concrete. Thus, in the study, an experiment was carried out to evaluate the conventional equivalent flexural strength ratio and the residual flexural strength of the steel fiber reinforced concrete. Then the design flexural strength was investigated according to the location of a point load, based on the ratio of the radius of contact area of the load to the radius of relative stiffness. Design flexural capacity obtained from ACI 360R-10 was smaller than that from TR 34 (2003 & 2013). In addition, TR 34 (2013), which evaluates the design flexural capacity based on the residual flexural strength, showed slightly smaller value than TR 34 (2003).

  • A series of reinforced concrete beams was tested to evaluate the flexural performance of the repaired RC beams. The key parameters for this study were the size and location of the patch, and the repair materials, including polymer, polymer-cementitious and cementitious materials. The repaired specimens failed by a typical flexural mode with minor interfacial bond failure. Beams repaired with polymer, polymer-cementitious and cementitious materials recover 100%, 91%, and 97% of the flexural strength respectively, while beams with cement mortar lose approximately 30% of the strength. Compared with the pressure injection techniques the specimens repaired with patching techniques show low flexural strength, with significant interfacial bond failure. Location and size of the repaired part do not affect the recovering performance. Interfacial behavior between repair and strengthening materials is the major influencing factor for the composite structures.

  • In recent years, FRP plates have been studied for flexural reinforcement of RC structures due to easy installation and good quality control. This study presents experimental results for the effectiveness of flexural reinforcement of the RC beams using thin CFRP and GFRP stripe made by the pultrusion process. For the selected FRP strips of various thicknesses and widths, it was demonstrated that both flexural strength and ductility were considerably increased with relatively easy installation when compared to the other methods used for the composite reinforcement.

  • This study is aim to evaluate of the flexural performance of specialty cellulose fiber reinforced concrete. Flexural test is proceeded by third-point loading method and the size of the test specimens is 15$\times$15$\times$55cm. The rate of loading was 0.006mm/min. The effects of differing fiber volume fraction(0.08%, 0.1%, 0.15%) were studied. The results of test on the specialty cellulose fiber reinforced concrete were compared with plain and polypropylene fiber reinforced concrete. Results indicated that specially cellulose fiber reinforcement showed an improvement of flexural performance.

  • The paper describes a theoretical study on the flexural vibration of an elastic rectangular plate with periodically nonuniform material properties. The approximate solution of the natural frequency and mode shape has been obtained using the perturbation technique for sinusoidal modulation of the flexural rigidity and mass density. It has been shown that distributed modes exist in the plate which Is a two-dimensional model of the flat panel speaker.

  • In this thesis, fracture tests were carried out in order to investigate the flexural strength behavior of FRC(fiber reinforced concrete) structures. FRC beams were used in the tests, the initial crack load and the ultimate load of the beams were observed under the static loading. According to the results, the ultimate loads increase with the fiber content, and these tendency is clear in the specimens with large fiber aspect ratio. From the results of the regression analysis, practical formulae for predicting the flexural strength of FRC were suggested.

  • A series of 15 reinforced concrete beams was tested to evaluate the flexural performance of the repaired RC beams. the key parameters for this study were the repair materials, polymer/cementitious materials, in addition to the strengthening material, steel plates and carbon fiber sheets. The repaired specimens failed by a typical flexural mode. showing minor interface failure. The results show that epoxy, polyester resins and latex modified cementitous mortars are effective for repairing the concrete beams. However, the flexural preformance of the strengthened beams are varied depending on the repaired materal.

  • Purpose: Many studies have shown that airborne-particle abrasion of fiber post can improve the bonding strength to resin cement. But, airborne-particle abrasion may influence the property of fiber post. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the influence of airborne-particle abrasion on flexural strength of fiber post. Materials and Methods: Two fiber-reinforced posts; DT Light Post Size 2 (1.8 mm diameter, Bisco Inc) and RelyX Fiber Post Size 3 (1.9 mm diameter, 3M ESPE); were used in this study. Each group was divided into 3 subgroups according to different surface treatments; without pretreatment: $50{\mu}m$ aluminum oxide (Cobra$^{(R)}$, Renfert): and $30{\mu}m$ aluminum oxide modified with silica (Rocatec Soft$^{(R)}$, 3M ESPE). After airborne-particle abrasion procedure, three-point bending test was done to determine the flexural strength and flexural modulus. The diameter of each posts was measured to an accuracy of 0.01 mm using a digital micrometer. There was no diameter change before and after airborneparticle abrasion. The mean flexural moduli and flexural strengths calculated using the appropriate equations. The results were statistically analyzed using One-way ANOVA and Scheffe's post-hoc test at 95% confidencial level. Results: There was no significant difference on flexural strength between groups. Conclusion: In the limitation of this study, flexural strength and flexural modulus of fiber post are not affected by airborne-particle abrasion.

  • The flexural behavior of Fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) sheets has gained much research interest in the flexural strengthening of reinforced concrete beams. The study on flexure includes various parameters like increase in strength of the member due to the externally bonded (EB) Fiber reinforced polymer, crack patterns, debonding of the fiber from the structure, scaling, convenience of using the fibers, cost effectiveness, etc. The present work aims to study experimentally about the reasons behind the failure due to flexure of an externally bonded FRP concrete beam. In the design of FRP-reinforced concrete structures, deflection control is as critical as much as flexural strength. A numerical model is created using Finite element (FEM) software and the results are compared with that of the experiment.
