The structural provisions of rectangular CFT (concrete-filled tubular) columns in the 2005/2010 AISC Specification, ACI 318-08, and EC4 were comparatively analyzed as a preliminary study for establishing the unified standards for composite structures. The provisions analyzed included those related to the nominal strength, the effect of confinement, plate slenderness, effective flexural stiffness, and the material strength limitations. Small or large difference can be found among the provisions of AISC, ACI, and EC4. Generally, the 2010 AISC Specification provides the revised provisions which reflect up-to-date test results and tries to minimize the conflict with the ACI provisions. For example, the 2010 AISC Specification introduced a more finely divided plate slenderness limits for CFT columns. In seismic applications, the plate slenderness limits required for highly and moderately ductile CFT columns were separately defined. However, the upper cap limitations on material strengths in both the AISC and EC4 provisions are too restrictive and need to be relaxed considering the high-strength material test database currently available. This study found that no provisions reviewed in this paper provide a generally satisfactory method for predicting the P-M interaction strength of CFT columns under various material combinations. It is also emphasized that a practical constitutive model, which can reasonably reflect the stress-strain characteristics of confined concrete of rectangular CFT columns, is urgently needed for a reliable prediction of the P-M interaction strength.
Covering polmer mortar as a filter for permeable polymer concrete on the base polymer concrete is nessary for good permeability from infiltration continuously. Therefore, three covering polymer mortars on the optimum base polymer concrete were cast immediatly following on the casting of the base polymer concrete. They are tested for compressive and flexural strengths, adhesion in tension, hardening shrinkage and permeability, and the effects of the mix proportioning factors on the properties of the permeable polymer concrete are discussed. From the test results, increase in the compressive strength and decrease in the coeffiecient of permeability of base polymer concrete are clearly obserbed with increasing filler-binder ratio. The base polymer concretes having a compressive strength of 9.4~28.3MPa and a coefficient of permeability of 0.12~1.93 cm/s can be produced in the consideration of the mix proportioning factors. Binder and filler contents in mix proportions had a great influence on the permeability of polymer concretes. The mechanical properties of permeable polymer concretes covered with polymer mortar using crushed stone are superior to other filters, and hardening shrinkage is the smallest in filters. It is apparent that adhesion between the base polymer concrete and polymer mortar is affected by the degree of hardening shrinkage. From this study, proper mix proportions can be recommended in the consideration of properties of the permeable polymer concrete.
The purpose of this study was to Investigate the effects of bent - up bar Within beam - column 1lint core with High - Strength Concrete up to 800kg/$cm^2$. To achieve these objectives, 5 specimens were designed and tested under monotoric loading and reversed cyclic loadings. The primary variables were the number of bent-up bars, compressive strength of concrete and loading patterns. The results showed that the load capacity of specimen subjected to monotonic loading had more large than that of specirnn subjected to reversed cyclic loadings and the bent - up bar within joint core could prevented the crack at the joint face from propagating into the pint core but the failure was concentrated at the face of beam - column pint. Thus the study on flexural strength ratio should be accomplished before using bent - up bars within the joint core.
Although blast furnace slag has been widely used in concrete as a cementitious admixture or aggregate for many years, the slowly cooled steel slag is not used in concrete but mainly in road. Its use in concrete operates problem such as the lack of volume stability due to high free CaO content, which can be potentially hazardous in concrete. However, the rapidly cooled steel slag by atomization has a low free CaO content, a high density, and a spherical shape, so it is expected to use in concrete so much. This paper is to understand the probability that the rapid cooled steel slag can replace the silica sand used as aggregate in the epoxy mortar. We did the experimental study on the properties of the epoxy mortar having various replacement proportion of rapidly cooled steel slag. This study shown that increasing content of the rapidly cooled steel slag in epoxy mortar lead to increase largely the passing time of nozzle by O-lot, compressive strength and flexural strength. However except the flow is almost same level. So we understand that the rapidly cooled steel slag has positive effect on increasing of properties in epoxy mortar.

DFRCC (ductile fiber reinforced cementitious composites), which are a significantly improved ductile material compared to conventional concrete, were evaluated as a new construction material with a high potential applications to concrete structures for a range of purposes. In this study, experiments on the failure behavior of composite beams with a DFRCC and FRP (fiber reinforced polymer) plank with a rib used as permanent formwork and tensile reinforcement were carried out. A normal concrete and a fiber reinforced concrete with PVA series of RF4000 and the PP series of PP-macro were used for comparison, and each RF4000+RSC15 and PP-macro+RSC15 was tested by producing composite beams. The experimental results of the FRP plank without a sand coating showed that sliding failure mode between the FRP plank and concrete started from a flexural crack at the beam center; therefore it is necessary for the FRP plank to be coated with sand and the effect of the fiber to failure mode did not appear to be huge. The experiment of the FRP plank with a sand coating showed that both 1200mm and 2000mm allowed sufficient bonding between the concrete and FRP plank. The maximum load of the fiber reinforced concrete was higher than that of normal concrete and the case which a series of PP fiber was mixed showed the highest value. The crack latency caused by the fibers led to composite action with a FRP rib.

A spray-applied waterproofing membrane which consists of polymers has a relatively higher constructability and adhesion than the conventional sheet-type waterproofing materials. Additionally, the spray-applied waterproofing membrane generally shows a waterproofing ability as a composite structure with shotcrete or concrete lining. Because its purpose is waterproofing at the structure, structural effects were not well reported than waterproofing abilities. In this study, structural effects of the membrane-attached concrete lining were evaluated using 3-point bending test by the numerical method. From the analysis, a load-displacement behavior of the concrete lining and fracturing energy after yielding were compared with various conditions. Consequently, concrete lining with spray-applied waterproofing membrane shows higher flexural strength and fracturing energy than the single-layer concrete lining.

Cracks in RC members occurred as a result of material and structural factors. The crack width and a crack location are very difficult to examine. A direct crack control method and indirect crack control method to control a crack are presented in the KHBDC (LSD) and KSCDC (2012). In the KSCDC text, cracks are controlled by steel spacing indirectly under a service load. On the other hand, in the KSCDC appendix, cracks are controlled by a crack width directly under a sustained load. In particular, the loading state considered is different. On the other hand, cracks are controlled under a combination of service load and an effective elastic modulus is used in KHBDC. Therefore, in this study, an effective elastic modulus that can reflect the ratio of the sustained load and live load was applied, and a maximum steel spacing was calculated through a design crack width. A variable interpretation was carried out, and a rational crack control method was assessed. As a result, a steel spacing through the design crack width in the KSCDC was smaller than that from the design crack width in the KHBDC, which leads to a conservative design. In addition, the maximum steel spacing suggested in this study has a consistency eliminating the difference between direct crack control and indirect crack control.
Ternary blended concrete(TBC), which contains both fly ash and granulated blast furnace slag, has an initial cost effective and is environment friendly. Furthermore, it has a lot of technical advantages such as the improvement of long term compressive strength, high workability, and the reduction of hydration heat. However, as the use and study on the performance of ternary blended concrete is limited, it is low short term compressive strength. This study was performed to evaluate the characteristics which are a long and short term compressive strengths, permeability and chemical attacks resistance of hardened high early concrete containing slag powder and fly-ash using high early strength cement(HE-TBC). Replacement rate of FA is fixed on 10% and replacement rate of slag powder are 0%, 10%, 20% and 30%. The test results showed that compressive and flexural strength of HE-TBC increased as the slag contents increased from 0% to 30% at the short term of curing. The permeability resistance of HE-TBC(fly ash 10%, blast 30%) was extremely good at the short and long terms. However, high early strength ternary blended concrete had weak on carbonation of chemical attack.
Developed in this study were Octagonal-hollow-section(OHS) struts, whose compressive strengths against flexural and local buckling is higher than H-shape or rectangular-hollow-section(RHS) struts with the same unit weight. OHS members are also advantageous in handling and storing compared to circular hollow sections(CHS). OHS members were fabricated from HR Plates by cold forming and fillet welding. 5 numbers of 20m long OHS struts were assembled, each of which consist of two 9.6m long OHS member and two end connection elements made of cast iron. The compressive strength of the OHS strut was evaluated by comparing the test results, design codes and FEM analysis each other. Test results show that all of the struts have almost same or larger compressive strength than Korean Road Bridge Design Code(KRBDC) (2012). The initial imperfections can be estimated by using measured strains and are turned out to be less than L/450 for all the struts tested. The results of FEM analysis show that the variation of initial imperfection has less effects on the compressive strength for struts with vertical surcharge than for those with self-weight only, while the strength decreases as the initial imperfection increases. As the result of this study, the allowable initial imperfection for 20m long OHS struts is recommended to be less than L/350 on job sites.
Indirect composite resins are used as an popular effective esthetic material in prosthetic dentistry, often with metallic substructure that provides support for restorations. Recently, new indirect composite resins as a substitute of ceramic have been developed. These resins provide good esthetics, with a wide range of hue and chroma. And the flexural strength of those is in the range of 120-150MPa, Which is higher than that of feldspathic Ceramic, and similar th that of Dicor. Although it has many merits, one of the major clinical problems of composite resins is the bond failure between metal and resin due to insufficient interfacial bond strength. The purpose of this study was to evaluate shear bond strength of the reinforced indirect composite resin to dental alloys. Three different composite resin systems($Artglass^{(R)},\;Sculpture^{(R)},\;Targis^{(R)}$) as test groups and ceramic($VMK\;68^{(R)}$) as control group were bonded to Ni-Cr-Be alloy($Rexillium\;III^{(R)}$) and gold alloy(Deva 4). All specimens were stored at $^37{\circ}C$ distilled water for 24 hours and the half of specimens were thermocycled 2000 times at temperature from $5^{\circ}C\;to\;60^{\circ}C$. The shear bond strengths of reinforced indirect composite resins to dental alloys were measured by using the universal testing machine, and modes of debonding were observed by stereoscope and scanning electron microscope. The results were as follows: 1 The shear bond strengths of reinforced indirect composite resins to dental alloys were approximately half those of ceramic to dental alloys(P<0.01). 2. There was no significant difference between the shear bond strength of several reinforced indirect composite resins to metal. 3. Alloy type did not affect on the shear bond strengths of resin to metal, but the shear bond strengths of ceramic to gold alloys were higher than those of ceramic to Ni-Cr alloys(P<0.05). 4. The shear bond strengths of Artglass and Targil to gold alloys were significantly decreased after thermocycling treatment(P<0.01). 5. Sculpture showed cohesive, adhesive, and mixed failure modes, but Artglass and Targis showed adhesive or mixed failures. And ceramic showed cohesive and mixed failures.
