디스플레이용 플라스틱 기판의 현황 (Plastic Substrates for Flexible Display)

  • 정보화의 심화 및 대중화에 따라서 다양한 정보를 시각화하여 인간에게 전달하는 디스플레이로서 장소, 시간에 구애됨이 없으면서 초경량, 저전력의 얇고, 종이처럼 가볍고 유연한 플렉시블 디스플레이가 최근 학문적, 산업적으로 많은 주목을 받고 있다. 플렉시블 디스플레이를 구현하기 위해서는 플렉시블 기판(박형 유리, 메탈호일, 플라스틱), 저온 공정용 유기, 무기 소재, 플렉시블 일렉트로닉스, 봉지 그리고 패키징 기술 등이 복합적으로 필요하다. 이중에서 플렉시블 기판은 플렉시블 디스플레이의 성능, 신뢰성, 가격을 결정하는 가장 중요한 부품으로 인식되고 있다. 플렉시블 기판 중에서는 플라스틱 기판이 가공의 용이성, 저 중량(유리의 1/2), 연속 공정의 적합성 등으로 인해서 광범위하게 적용이 검토되고 있다. 본 고에서는 디스플레이용 플라스틱 기판의 최근 산업적, 기술적 동향에 관해서 설명한다.

  • Indium tin oxide (ITO) thin films have been deposited onto bare glass substrates by sol-gel process. The solution was prepared by mixing indium precursor and tin precursor dissolved in 2-methoxyethanol at $75^{\circ}C$ for 12 hours. Indium tin oxide films were prepared by slowly heat up to $200^{\circ}C$ for 10 minutes and annealed at $350^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. In this paper, we researched simple and inexpensive sol-gel process. To find the optimal ratio of In/Sn to reduce electric resistance in ITO made by sol-gel process, we assessed electric properties varying the ratio of In and Sn precursor.

  • The OTFT devices had inverted staggered structures of Au/pentacene/ppMMA/ITO on PET substrate. The overall device performances of the flexible devices such as the operating voltage, the field effect mobility, the on/off ratio and the off current are somewhat worse than those of devices fabricated on glass substrates. Pentacene/ppMMA OTFT benchmarks (mobility, sub-threshold slope, on/off ratio) were comparable to that of solution cast PMMA, but below average when compared to other polymer gate dielectrics. However, threshold and drive voltages were among the lowest reported for a polymer gate dielectric, and surpassed only by ultra-thin SAM gate dielectrics.

카본나노튜브 스트레인 센서 제작 기술 (Fabrication of Carbon Nanotube Strain Sensors)

  • In this study, the strain sensing characteristics of single-wall carbon nanotubes(SWCNTs) networks were investigated to develop a film sensor for strain sensing. The SWCNTs film are formed on flexible substrates of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) using spray process. In this manner we could control the transparency and obtain excellent uniformity of the networked SWCNT film. The carbon nanotube film is isotropic due to randomly oriented bundles of SWCNTs. Using experimental results it is shown that there is a nearly linear change in resistance across the film when it is subjected to tensile stress. The results presented in this study indicate the potential of such films for high sensitive transparent strain sensors on macro scale.

  • We have studied the optical performance of flexible polymer network liquid crystal (PNLC) films at various bending states. Different measurement setups, wide and narrow opening angles of detector, were used to collect scatting light of PNLC films. The optical and dynamic properties of bent PNLC implied the change of LC domains.

  • The present status and trend of oxide phosphor thin-film development for thin-film electroluminescent (TFEL) device application are presented in this paper. Recently, several newly developed types of bendable or bendable see-through oxide TFEL lamps have been fabricated using the TFEL technology with a newly developed bendable ceramic sheet, glass sheet or sapphire sheet substrate, which has become available on the market. Stable operation at high temperatures was obtained in double-insulating-layer-type TFEL lamps fabricated with a $Zn_2Si_{0.6}Ge_{0.}4O_4$:Mn thin-film emitting layer forming on translucent or transparent bendable sheet substrates.

Flexible top emission organic light emitting diode on paper substrate

  • We fabricated an efficient top emission organic light emitting diode (FTEOLED) on paper substrates. For water proof and surface planarization, parylene of 5mm thick has been coated on copy paper substrate by vapor polymerization. As use this coating layer, fabrication of device was possible by photolithography and wet etching. Because paper is not transparent, we adapted top emission structure with transparent cathode and reflective anode. The FTOLED on paper showed the excellent electrical characteristic, $109cd/m^2$, 2.3cd/A at 10V.

  • In this paper we presented experimental results of a gas sensor utilizing multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT)composites for the alcohol detection which is useful to checking drinking and driving, for example. The MWNT-composites were deposited using spray method on PES substrates suitable for use in low-cost and flexible sensors. We observed the variation of conductance from the sensors exposed to alcohol vapors evaporated at 37C equal to the human body temperature to match real condition. As the result, the conductance was decreased with the increase of ethanol vol% diluted in water. The sensors showed good sensitivity and linearity.

플라스틱 기판을 이용한 고분자 청색 유기발광다이오드의 발광 특성 (Emission Characteristics of Polymer Blue Organic Light Emitting Devices on the Plastic Substrates)

  • We have fabricated blue phosphorescent organic light-emitting devices (OLEDs) on a plastic substrate. The solution coated poly (9-vinylcarbazole) (PVK) host doped with Bis (3,5-difluoro-2-(2-pyridyl)phenyl_(2-carboxypyridyl)irdium(III) (FIrPic) guest molecules was used as an hole transporting emission layer. The device structure was ITO/PVK:FIrpic (50 nm, xwt%)/TAZ 50 nm)/LiF (0.5 nm)/Al (100 nm). The concentration of FIrpic molecule was varied from 1 wt% to 10 wt%. The OLED on plastic substrate exhibited maximum current efficiency of 18 cd/A with 5 wt% FIrpic molecules were doped into the PVK layer.

  • It is well known that Zinc Oxide (ZnO) is an attractive material for its various applications. ZnO has been mostly used as a transparent conducting oxide in liquid crystal displays, solar cells due to its advantages of low cost, high productivity, and excellent electrical conductivity. Notably, flexible-dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) based on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrates require low temperature sintering processing conditions. Therefore, low temperature processing conditions have been strongly required for transparent conducting film applications. In this paper, we prepared low temperature-sintered ZnO ceramics employing Li as a sintering aid.
