A novel technology for CWDM (Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexer) utilizing a PLC (Planar Lightwave Circuit)-AWG (Arrayed Waveguide Grating) fabrication process is proposed. BPM (Beam Propagation Method) Simulation results on the employed parabolic-horn-type input slab waveguide of AWG and the performance of the 20 nm-channel spacing CWDM with flattened passband are presented. Waveguides of $0.75{\triangle}%$ have been used in this experiment and the insertion loss at the peak wavelength is 3.5 dB for a Gaussian spectrum and is 4.8 dB for a flat-top spectrum. The bandwidth at 3 dB is better than 10 nm and 13 nm for Gaussian and flat-top spectra, respectively.

Recombinant E. coli ACV 1003 (recA:: lacZ) was used to measure low concentrations of DNA-damaging chemicals, which produce $\beta$-galactosidase via an SOS regulon system. Very low $\beta$-galactosidase activities of less than 0.01 unit/ml, $\beta$-galactosidase produced through an SOS response corresponding to the 10 ng/ml (ppb) of DNA damaging chemicals in the environment, can be rapidly determined by using an alternative interferometric biosensor with optically flat thin films of porous silicon rather than by the conventional time-consuming Miller's enzyme assay as well as the ELISA method. fu order to enhance the sensitivity in the interferometry, it needs to obtain more uniform distribution and higher biolinking efficiency, whereas interferometric sensing is rapid, cheap, and advantageous in high throughput by using a multiple-well-type chip. In this study, pore size adjusted to 60 nm for the target enzyme $\beta$-galactosidase to be bound on both walls of a Si pore and a calyx crown derivative was apllied as a more efficient biolinker. Furthermore, anti-$\beta$-galactosidase was previously functionalized with the biolinker for the target $\beta$-galactosidase to be specifically bound. When anti-$\beta$-galactosidase was bound to the calyx-crown derivative-linked surface, the effective optical thickness was found to be three times as high as that obtained without using anti-$\beta$-galactosidase. The resolution obtained was very similar to that afforded by the time-consuming ELISA method; however, the reproducibility was still unsatisfactory, below 1 unit $\beta$-galactosidase/ml, owing to the microscopic non-uniform distribution of the pores in the etched silicon surface.

Separation characteristics of cutting oil-in-water emulsions were studied experimentally by using various kinds of flat-type microfiltration and ultrafiltration membranes. For ultrafiltration membranes the permeation behavior of cutting oil emulsions obeys the film model, whereas a significant deviation from the model was observed for ASYPOR microfiltration membranes. The experimental data obtained for all the membranes showed that the effect of operating pressure on the permeation flux of oil-in-water emulsions is not very significant. At low transmembrane pressures the permeation flux decreased gradually with increasing filtration time, whereas the permeation flux at high transmembrane pressures decreased steeply for early filtration time. However, every flux eventually reached a constant value that depends only on the applied transmembrane pressure. For the hydrophobic polycarbonate microfiltration membrane the permeation flux increased with the filtration time. The critical permeation pressures were also determined from the data obtained from unstirred cell experiments.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the stresses in different proximal margins and to measure, quantitatively, the effect of different modifications in the design of preparations on the stresses using two-dimensional photoelasticity. Photoelastic stress analysis is based on the phenomenon, exhibited by most transparent solids, of becoming birefringent, or doubly refracting, when strained. Two birefringent materials were used in this study, PSM-1 and PSM-5 in .standard sheet ($10'{\times}10'{\times}\frac{1}{4}'$ thickness), PSM-1(polyester) was used for constructing the substructure, and PSM-5(epoxy resin) was used in making the restorations to be investigated. Two birefringent materials were used in the construction of composite photoelastic model. Seven variable models were constructed. The peripheral dimensions of all model were constant and the models represent an occlusomesial section of a lower posterior molar. Model 1 represents the knife edge margin (shoulderless), Model 2 represents the chamfer, Model 3 represents a rounded shoulder(no sharp angle between the axial wall and gingival floor), Model 4 represents a flat shoulder (axial wall is a $90^{\circ}$ angle to the gingival wall), Model 5 represents $+15^{\circ}$ angulation, Model 6 has a $-15^{\circ}$ angulation, and Model 7 is the same as Model 4 except that it has a $45^{\circ}$ bevel. Improved artificial stone was used to represent dental cement in luting the composite photoelastic model. Static loading procedures(100 pounds) were used at preplanned sites. The results were as follows; 1. The stresses in the proximal portion of all tested models were compressive in nature when the proximal shoulders were loaded vertically on the same proximal marginal ridge. 2. The round and chamfered preparations were the optimum designs in proximoocclusal restorations. They showed the lowest stress concentration factor, i.e. 2.16 and 2.23, respectively. The knife edged shoulder had the highest value, K=5.39. Round type shoulder geometry experiments reduced the stress concentration factor (S.C.F.) 3. The gingival portion of proximal shoulder geometry was a critical location for stress concentration.

Objective: The authors have experimented for the artificial plaque removal effect of several kinds of 360 degree rotating head typed tooth-brushes with sonic vibratory actioned by using of automatic machine for horizontal scrub method in order to find the better toothbrush type for plaque removal. Methods: The experiment was conducted on three medium to 360 degree rotating head toothbrushes, a medium sized toothbrush and a medium sized toothbrush, and a flat toothbrush consisting of 30 ordinary toothbrushes. A brushing machine with horizontal scrubbing was manufactured and had variations of the end of the bristle attached to or near the surface of the teeth, a vibrating wave action force of 16,000 or 18,000 cycles per minute, and a working time of 2 or 3 minutes. The tooth removal effect was confirmed by scanning and analyzing images with a computer program after automatic brushing with the machine. The elimination rate results for each group were analyzed using the independent t-test and one-way ANOVA test. Results: It revealed the most in removal effect for the artificial plaque in such conditions as action at near the tooth surface with 18,000 cycle for 3 minutes in case of using A, B, and C tooth-brush. And it has more removal effect rate than for using the plane tooth-brush (p<0.05). Conclusion: It was recommended to develop the 360 degree rotating head and vibratory toothbrush focusing to use near the tooth surface with 18,000 cycles of vibration for 3 minutes at one site of the teeth area.
Purpose: Proton therapy has been used for optimal cancer treatment by adapting its Bragg-peak characteristics. Recently, a tissue-sparing effect was introduced in ultrahigh-dose-rate (FLASH) radiation; the high-energy transmission proton beam is considered in proton FLASH therapy. In measuring high-energy/ultrahigh-dose-rate proton beam, Faraday Cup is considered as a dose-rate-independent measurement device, which has been widely studied. In this paper, the feasibility of the simply designed Faraday Cup (Poor Man's Faraday Cup, PMFC) for transmission proton FLASH therapy is investigated. Methods: In general, Faraday cups were used in the measurement of charged particles. The simply designed Faraday Cup and Advanced Markus ion chamber were used for high-energy proton beam measurement in this study. Results: The PMFC shows an acceptable performance, including accuracy in general dosimetric tests. The PMFC has a linear response to the dose and dose rate. The proton fluence was decreased with the increase of depth until the depth was near the proton beam range. Regarding secondary particles backscatter from PMFC, the effect was negligible. Conclusions: In this study, we performed an experiment to investigate the feasibility of PMFC for measuring high-energy proton beams. The PMFC can be used as a beam stopper and secondary monitoring system for transmission proton beam FLASH therapy.

Purpose: The present study was conducted to investigate whether there is any difference in the centration of spherical RGP lens on cornea according to corneal types, corneal astigmatism and lens fitting states. Methods: Spherical RGP lens was fitted on 29 eyes of round-typed cornea and 45 eyes of symmetric bowtie-typed cornea with 0.00~2.75 D of corneal astigmatism in alignment, steep or flat. Their lens centrations on cornea were analyzed by taking photographs. Results: The centration of spherical RGP lens in the vertical direction was decentrated to downward direction in all cases, and the degree of decentration was not consistent. The lens centration in horizontal direction was significantly more-decentrated to the temporal meridian as base curve of lens was increased, and the degree of decentration was different according to the corneal type, corneal astigmatism and fitting states. With the same degree of astigmatism, the lens decentration to the temporal meridian was bigger in round-typed cornea than that in symmetirc bowtie-typed cornea. Conclusions: The centration of spherical RGP lens varies depending on lens fitting states, corneal astigmatism, and corneal types. Thus, the consideration of these factors may improve the success rate in RGP lens prescription.

Statement of problem. Higher fracture rates were reported for Branemark implants placed in the maxilla and for 3.75 mm diameter implants installed in the posterior region. Purpose. The purpose of this study was to investigate the fracture of a fixture by finite element analysis and to compare different diameter of fixtures according to the level of alveolar bone resorption. Material and Methods. The single implant and prosthesis was modeled in accordance with the geometric designs for the 3i implant systems. Models were processed by the software programs HyperMesh and ANSA. Three-dimensional finite element models were developed for; (1) a regular titanium implant 3.75 mm in diameter and 13 mm in length (2) a regular titanium implant 4.0 mm in diameter and 13 mm in length (3) a wide titanium implant 5.0 mm in diameter and 13 mm in length each with a cementation type abutment and titanium alloy screw. The abutment screws were subjected to a tightening torque of 30 Ncm. The amount of preload was hypothesized as 650 N, and round and flat type prostheses were 12 mm in diameter, 9 mm in height were loaded to 600 N. Four loading offset points (0, 2, 4, and 6 mm from the center of the implants) were evaluated. To evaluate fixture fracture by alveolar bone resorption, we investigated the stress distribution of the fixtures according to different alveola. bone loss levels (0, 1.5, 3.5, and 5.0 mm of alveolar bone loss). Using these 12 models (four degrees of bone loss and three implant diameters), the effects of load-ing offset, the effect of alveolar bone resorption and the size of fixtures were evaluated. The PAM-CRASH 2G simulation software was used for analysis of stress. The PAM-VIEW and HyperView programs were used for post processing. Results. The results from our experiment are as follows: 1. Preload maintains implant-abutment joint stability within a limited offset point against occlusal force. 2. Von Mises stress of the implant, abutment screw, abutment, and bone was decreased with in-creasing of the implant diameter. 3. With severe advancing of alveolar bone resorption, fracture of the 3.75 and the 4.0 mm diameter implant was possible. 4. With increasing of bending stress by loading offset, fracture of the abutment screw was possible.

In this work, we considered a compressed-sensing (CS)-based image deblurring scheme with a total-variation (TV) regularization penalty for improving image characteristics in digital tomosynthesis (DTS). We implemented the proposed image deblurring algorithm and performed a systematic simulation to demonstrate its viability. We also performed an experiment by using a table-top setup which consists of an x-ray tube operated at $90kV_p$, 6 mAs and a CMOS-type flat-panel detector having a $198-{\mu}m$ pixel resolution. In the both simulation and experiment, 51 projection images were taken with a tomographic angle range of ${\theta}=60^{\circ}$ and an angle step of ${\Delta}{\theta}=1.2^{\circ}$ and then deblurred by using the proposed deblurring algorithm before performing the common filtered-backprojection (FBP)-based DTS reconstruction. According to our results, the image sharpness of the recovered x-ray images and the reconstructed DTS images were significantly improved and the cross-plane spatial resolution in DTS was also improved by a factor of about 1.4. Thus the proposed deblurring scheme appears to be effective for the blurring problems in both conventional radiography and DTS and is applicable to improve the present image characteristics.
Lichen planus is a relatively common chronic inflammatory disease involving the skin and mucous membranes showing small flat polygonal papules. The accurate etiology is unknown but it's suggested that cell-mediated immune response to an induced antigenic changes in skin or mucosa. Oral lichen planus was regarded as an benign lesion but oral lichen planus was classified as premalignant lesion by WHO criteria. It was not known that progress of malignat transmmission in the the patient with oral lichen planus, and chronic inflammatory disease including oral lichen planus showed malignacy in oral cancer unrelated common risk factors(Ex: tabacco, alcohol). Although malignant development in the patient with oral liche planus was various greatly in the literature, from 0.5% upward to 5%. It has been reported that a specific clinical type of oral lichen planus, hyperkeratotic or erosive had a higher chance of transformation into an squamous carcinoma. Clinician has to follow-up check of at least one or two visit per year to detect of malignancy of oral lichen planus and improved prognosis with squamous cell carcinoma. At this case with the middle aged women with squamous cell carcinoma developed from oral lichen planus of more than a decade of persisting, we try to discuss the malignacy of oral lichen planus and cosideration with follow-up.
