A Study of Kernel Characteristics of CNN Deep Learning for Effective Fire Detection Based on Video (영상기반의 화재 검출에 효과적인 CNN 심층학습의 커널 특성에 대한 연구)

  • In this paper, a deep learning method is proposed to detect the fire effectively by using video of surveillance camera. Based on AlexNet model, classification performance is compared according to kernel size and stride of convolution layer. Dataset for learning and interfering are classified into two classes such as normal and fire. Normal images include clouds, and foggy images, and fire images include smoke and flames images, respectively. As results of simulations, it is shown that the larger kernel size and smaller stride shows better performance.

Effects of Swirl/Shear-coaxial Injector on the Dynamic Behavior of Gaseous Methane-Gaseous Oxygen Diffusion Flame (스월/전단 동축형 인젝터가 기체메탄-기체산소 확산화염의 동역학적 거동에 미치는 영향)

  • To analyze the dynamic behavior and the structure of the gaseous methane-gaseous oxygen diffusion flame formed by a swirl/shear-coaxial injector, combustion experiments were carried out under different propellant injection conditions. As a result, the OH radical emission intensity of the diffusion flame visualized through chemiluminescence was observed to increase as the propellant mass flow and the momentum flux ratio increased. And flames with swirl showed a more high radical emission intensity than those without swirl.

  • To validate the fire safety assessment of structures, many structural experiments under fire load have been conducted. However, most of these experiments were conducted in restricted environments, such as inside a furnace, and experiments were seldom carried out in open space. In this study, an experimental study on H-beams, frequently used as structural reinforcements, was carried out for validating the thermal-structural analysis method under development. A 1.8 MW burner fire was adopted with each end of the H-beam fixed without a mechanical load. Gas temperature, steel surface temperature, and displacements were then measured. During the experiment, gas and steel temperatures were obtained at 9 and 17 points near the H-beam, respectively. In addition, the vertical and horizontal displacements of the H-beam under fire load at 6 points were obtained. Furthermore, it was verified that the stable displacement measurements via the contact and non-contact methods were feasible in harsh environments where flames and smoke were both present.

  • Fire resistance performance and performance design of fire doors are becoming more important to prevent the spread of fire and support the rapid evacuation of apartment buildings. In this study, a database using 182 evacuation spaces and 308 common areas that passed the fire performance test was established, and fire door performance influencing factors were derived through an analysis of the structure(12 elements) of the fire door. As a result, the effects of fire-resisting filler density, adhesive, and foam gasket were confirmed for evacuation space, and the effects of fire-resisting filler, adhesive, and fire fins were confirmed for common areas. In the fire door fire resistance test, flames and cracks were analyzed as the most frequent failure factors.

  • The paper presents an effective method to detect fire in video surveillance and monitoring system. The main contribution of this work is that we successfully use the Hidden Markov Models in the process of detecting the fire with a few preprocessing steps. First, the moving pixels detected from image difference, the color values obtained from the fire flames, and their pixels clustering are applied to obtain the image regions labeled as fire candidates; secondly, utilizing massive training data, including fire videos and non-fire videos, creates the Hidden Markov Models of fire and non-fire, which are used to make the final decision that whether the frame of the real-time video has fire or not in both temporal and spatial analysis. Experimental results demonstrate that it is not only robust but also has a very low false alarm rate, furthermore, on the ground that the HMM training which takes up the most time of our whole procedure is off-line calculated, the real-time detection and alarm can be well implemented when compared with the other existing methods.

A Study on the Establishment of Bunkering Safety Zone for Hydrogen Propulsion Ships in Coastal Area (연근해 수소추진선박의 벙커링 안전구역 설정에 관한 연구)

  • This study aims to establish safety zones for bunkering operations of hydrogen propulsion ships in coastal areas through risk assessment and evaluate their validity. Using a 350 kW-class ferry operating in Busan Port as the subject of analysis, with quantitative risk assessment based on accident consequence and frequency analysis, along with a social risk assessment considering population density. The results of the risk assessment indicate that all scenarios were within acceptable risk criteria and ALARP region. The most critical accident scenarios involve complete hose rupture during bunkering, resulting in jet flames (Frequency: 2.76E-06, Fatalities: 9.81) and vapor cloud explosions (Frequency: 1.33E-08, Fatalities: 14.24). For the recommended safety zone criteria in the 6% hose cross-sectional area leakage scenario, It could be appropriate criteria considering overall risk level and safety zones criteria for hydrogen vehicle refueling stations. This research contributes to establishing safety zone for bunkering operations of hydrogen propulsion ships through risk assessment and provides valuable technical guidelines.

An Experimental Study on the Two Stage-Ignition of Cool Flame and Hot Flame in HCCI Engine According to Fuel Composition (연료조성에 따른 HCCI 엔진의 냉염 및 열염의 2단연소 특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • As the environmental pollution becomes serious global problem, the regulation of emission exhausted from automobiles is strengthen. Therefore, it is very important to know how to reduce the NOx and PM simultaneously in diesel engines, which has lot of merits such as high thermal efficiency, low fuel consumption and durability. By this reason, the new concept called as Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition(HCCI) engines are spotlighted because this concept reduced NOx and P.M. simultaneously. However, it is well known that HCCI engines increased HC and CO. Thus, the investigation of combustion characteristics which consists cool and hot flames for HCCI engines were needed to obtain the optimal combustion condition. In this study, combustion characteristics for direct inject type HCCI engine such as quantity of cool flame and hot flame, ignition timing and ignition delay were investigated to clarify the effects of these parameters on performance. The results revealed that diesel combustion showed the two-stage ignition of cool flame and hot flame, the rate of cool flame increase and hot flame decrease with increasing intake air temperature. On the other hand, the gasoline combustion is the single-stage ignition and ignition timing is near the TDC. In addition mixed fuel combustion showed different phenomenon, which depends on the ratio of gasoline component. Ignition timing of mixed fuel is retarded near the TDC and the ignition delay is increased according to ratio of gasoline.

Damage Distribution Rule of Weak Beam Type Multi-Story Steel Frames Influenced by Strength and Stiffness Ratios of Beam and Column (보 붕괴형 메커니즘을 가지는 강구조 다층골조의 손상분포)

  • In order to evaluate the limit earthquake resistance of multi-story steel frames influenced by the strength and stiffness ratios of members, a series inelastic response analysis were carried out. From the analysis results, the damage distribution rules of multi-story steel frames were proposed. Conclusions are summarized as follows; 1)As the stiffness ratios of beam and column becomes small, the damage concentrates on the lower end of columns of the first story. 2) Considering the strength and stiffness ratios of the beam and column with weak beam type mechanism, the equations predicting the damage distribution of multi-story steel flames were proposed. 3) Through the equation which was supposed in this study, it is speculated that the damage distribution of the rigid or semirigid beam collapse type multi-story steel structure building can be predicted.

Study for Failure Cases on Engine Electronic Control Computer in Liquid Petroleum Gas vehicle (액화석유가스 자동차 엔진의 전자제어 컴퓨터의 고장사례 연구)

  • The purpose of this paper analyzes and studies to improve the failure cases on the computer that one of electronic control elements for engine in liquified petroleum gas vehicle. The first case, it certified the non-starting phenomenon of engine that it's electronic control unit didn't control the fuel for idle speed actuator because of no given action signal in slow-cut solenoid valve. The second case, it knew the bad condition phenomenon of engine and back-fire by the wire melting of ignition coil and firing of transistor being inside ECU. The third case, it certified the action stoping phenomenon of engine and malfunctioning signal for engine ECU because of leakage of current and an excess current by moisture inflowing inside ECU curcuit plate. Therefore, it is thought that will elevate the durability and reliability of engine computer throughout procure of quality.

Quantitative Difference in the Extinguishing Concentration of Inert Gases with Fire Suppression Criteria in a Cup Burner Test (컵버너시험에서 소화기준에 따른 불활성기체의 소화농도에 대한 정량적 차이)

  • The concentrations of inert gases ($N_2$, Ar, $CO_2$ and He) required to induce the flame instabilities such as swing, rotation, lifted and blow-out were measured in a cup burner nonpremixed flames for $CH_4$ and $C_3H_8$ fuels. Quantitative differences in the extinguishing concentration with fire suppression criteria (i.e. blow-out or onset of flame instability) were also examined. It was found that the difference in extinguishing concentration was increased with the appearance of lifted flame and the low extinguishing performance of inert gaseous. The maximum difference in extinguishing concentration with the suppression criteria was approximately 35% at the highest fuel velocity condition (1.3 cm/s) for the $C_3H_8$-air nonpremixed flame. It can be also expected that the extinguishing concentration by the criteria based on the onset of flame instability will provide the useful information from the viewpoint of the accurate and economical design concentration.
