  • Unlike the traditional displacement type vessels, the high speed planing crafts are supported by the lift forces which are highly non-linear. This non-linear phenomenon causes their motions in an irregular seaway to be non-Gaussian. In general, it may not be possible to express the probability distribution of such processes by an analytical formula. Also the process might not be stationary or ergodic in which case the statistical behavior of the motion to be constantly changing with time. Therefore the extreme values of such a process can no longer be calculated using the analytical formulae applicable to Gaussian processes. Since closed form analytical solutions do not exist, recourse is taken to fitting a distribution to the data and estimating the statistical properties of the process from this fitted probability distribution. The peaks over threshold analysis and fitting of the Generalized Pareto Distribution are explored in this paper as an alternative to Weibull, Generalized Gamma and Rayleigh distributions in predicting the short term extreme value of a random process.

  • This study examined the wearing conditions of working clothes of shipbuilding industry workers according to the working environmental factors and working process features. It was also investigated the relationship between the wearing sense of working clothes and the overall comfort according to work processes. In the working process of shipbuilding industry, the process of fitting, welding, grinding and painting were chosen by considering work environmental factors, disaster types, hazardous materials, work process features, working clothes and safety equipments of each work categorized. The workers of fitting process usually wore the standard working clothes, while more than 60% of the workers of welding, grinding and painting wore the specialized protective clothes. The hazardous work environmental factors such as noise, heavy dust, high temperature and noxious fumes affected to the workers of fitting, welding and grinding. However, the workers of painting were greatly damaged by organic solvent. The dissatisfaction with the wearing performance of working clothes was highly shown in the sweat absorbency, moisture permeability and body protection. In respect of the correlation between the overall comfort and the wearing sense of working clothes, the satisfaction was decreased in orders of movement comfort> sensual comfort> physiological comfort.

  • A novel pulse fitting analysis (PFA) method is presented for the acquisition of nuclear spectra. The charging process of the feedback capacitor in the resistive feedback charge-sensitive preamplifier is equivalent to the impulsive pulse, and its impulse response function (IRF) can be obtained by non-linear fitting of the falling edge of the nuclear pulse. The integral of the IRF excluding the baseline represents the energy deposition of the particles in the detector. In addition, since the non-linear fitting process in PFA method is difficult to achieve in the conventional architecture of spectroscopy system, a new multi-channel analyzer (MCA) based on Zynq SoC is proposed, which transmits all the data of nuclear pulses from the programmable logic (PL) to the processing system (PS) by high-speed AXI-Stream in order to implement PFA method with precision. The linearity of new MCA has been tested. The spectrum of 137Cs was obtained using LaBr3(Ce) scintillator detector, and was compared with commercial MCA by ORTEC. The results of tests indicate that the MCA based on PFA method has the same performance as the commercial MCA based on pulse height analysis (PHA) method and excellent linearity for γ-rays with different energies, which infers that PFA method is an effective and promising method for the acquisition of spectra. Furthermore, it provides a new solution for nuclear pulse processing algorithms involving regression and iterative processes.

  • In this paper, we propose a new dataset for AI diagnosis and BLDC motor diagnosis in UAV. In the diagnosis of BLDC motor, PVA(Park's Vector Approach) is difficult to apply due to many ripples of frequency components. However, since the components of ripples are the third harmonics, we propose a method to utilize PVA as circle fitting by applying Savitzky-Golay filter which is excellent for the third harmonics. On the other hand, PVA, a technique to convert from three-phase to two-phase, is always based on the origin during the transformation process. This study demonstrates that the error of the origin and the measured center can be detected and diagnosed in the application process of Circle fitting, and that it can be used as a new data set of AI technology.

  • Detecting and correcting defects on LCD glasses early in the manufacturing process becomes important for panel makers to reduce the manufacturing costs and to improve productivity. Many attempts have been made and were successfully applied to detect and identify simple defects such as scratches, dents, and foreign objects on glasses. However, it is still difficult to robustly detect low-contrast defect region, called Mura or blemish area on glasses. Typically, these defect areas are roughly defined as relatively large, several millimeters of diameter, and relatively dark and/or bright region of low Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) against background of low-frequency signal. The aim of this article is to present a robust algorithm to segment these blemish defects. Early 90's, a highly robust estimator, known as the Model-Fitting (MF) estimator was developed by X. Zhuang et. al. and have been successfully used in many computer vision application. Compared to the conventional Least-Square (LS) estimator the MF estimator can successfully estimate model parameters from a dataset of contaminated Gaussian mixture. Such a noise model is defined as a regular white Gaussian noise model with probability $1-\varepsilon$ plus an outlier process with probability $varepsilon$. In the sense of robust estimation, the blemish defect in images can be considered as being a group of outliers in the process of estimating image background model parameters. The algorithm developed in this paper uses a modified MF estimator to robustly estimate the background model and as a by-product to segment the blemish defects, the outliers.

  • The press bulging process is very useful and productive method to produce round-type mechanical components which have not been able to be manufactured because of limitation of the conventional press technology. The application of the press bulging process has expanded very quickly in the hydraulic and electronic industry and more recently it has been used to produce other mechanical parts such as the automobile and shipping parts. This expanding application also has brought some unsolved problems and leads many researchers to put their effort into the die design of the press bulging process. In this study, to obtain the optimum die shape for the press bulging process, various process parameters have been considered such as corner radius, bulging height, pressing length, and forming load, etc. The main interest of this paper is to verify the press bulging process which has more than 4.0 in height-length ratio. From this aspect, Finite Element analysis shows great ability to simulate the precise deformation process and gives us manufacturing database. Consideration of strain, stress, and strain-rate for the various cases has been also taken to keep the forming load within a particular range.

  • The torsion bar, which is a steering torque sensor, is mounted between the steering pinion and the input shaft in the IPA(input pinion assembly). Accurate torque measurement is important to improve the sense of operation, and the straightness of the torsion bar can affect torque measurement. In this study, the amount of bending was measured and the exact shape was analyzed regarding the bending phenomenon in the press-fitting process for torsion bars. The effect of alignment error was analyzed through finite element forming analysis. Process data analysis was conducted for the double-end press fit model. If there is an alignment error of about 10% of the serration tooth height, the indentation load is reduced by about 10%. If there is an alignment error, the torsion bar is rotated.

  • A method to deduce the rotational magnetization curve from experimental magnetization of partially aligned uniaxial anisotropy system has been investigated. The curve obtained by this process has been evaluated quire close to the theoretical magnetization curve compared to that obtained by linear extrapolation from high field data. This new approach offers better accuracy for the determination of magnetic anisotropy by fitting a calculated magnetization curve to the obversed one.

  • Optical systems often suffer from optical aberrations caused by imperfect hardware, which places significant constraints on their utility and performance. To reduce these undesirable effects, a comprehensive understanding of the aberrations inherent to optical systems is needed. This article presents an effective method for aberration detection using Zernike polynomials. The process involves scanning the object plane to identify the optimal focus and subsequently fitting the acquired focus data to Zernike polynomials. This fitting procedure facilitates the analysis of various aberrations in the optical system.

  • This study was aimed at the design of the dies for the unified pipe joint of the intermediate shaft using the computer simulation to shorten the period of production, on the basis of the process planning which was designed by the field experts. In the computer simulation, 'Deform-3d' and 'eesy-DieOpt' have been used, which are the commercial process analysis and die design program. Through the process analysis, we could know the propriety of the forming process, the inner pressure of the die and the suitable fitting pressure between the insert and the sleeve which was not showing any positive tangential stresses in the insert. Through the simulation of die design, we could know the number of the stress ring, the diameter ratios, the stresses of the die, the shrink fitting tolerance and temperature in the condition of the already determined maximum outer die diameter of the multi-stage former. The validity of the die design using the computer simulation was analyzed by the experiments and the results were satisfactory. As the results of this study, the new and easy die design system for multi-forging has been developed.
