In order to tune the speed controller in the linear servo applications the accurate information of a mover mass including a load mass is always required. This paper suggests the mass estimation method of a permanent magnet linear synchronous motor(PMLSM) by using the parameter estimation method of Least-Squares algorithm. First, the deterministic autoregressive moving average(DARMA) model of the mechanical dynamic system is derived. The application of the Least-Squares algorithm shows that the mass can be accurately estimated both in the simulation results and in the experimental results.
In [Z. Cai and B. C. Shin, SIAM J. Numer. Anal. 40 (2002), 307-318], we developed the discrete first-order system least squares method for the second-order elliptic boundary value problem by directly approximating $H(div){\cap}H(curl)-type$ space based on the Helmholtz decomposition. Under general assumptions, error estimates were established in the $L^2\;and\;H^1$ norms for the vector and scalar variables, respectively. Such error estimates are optimal with respect to the required regularity of the solution. In this paper, we study solution methods for solving the system of linear equations arising from the discretization of variational formulation which possesses discrete biharmonic term and focus on numerical results including the performances of multigrid preconditioners and the finite element accuracy.
A new meshfree method for the analysis of elasto-plastic deformations is presented. The method is based on the proposed first-order least-squares formulation, to which the moving least-squares approximation is applied. The least-squares formulation for the classical elasto-plasticity and its extension to an incrementally objective formulation for finite deformations are proposed. In the formulation, the equilibrium equation and flow rule are enforced in least-squares sense, while the hardening law and loading/unloading condition are enforced exactly at each integration point. The closest point projection method for the integration of rate-form constitutive equation is inherently involved in the formulation, and thus the radial-return mapping algorithm is not performed explicitly. Also the penalty schemes for the enforcement of the boundary and frictional contact conditions are devised. The main benefit of the proposed method is that any structure of cells is not used during the whole process of analysis. Through some numerical examples of metal forming processes, the validity and effectiveness of the method are presented.
Multigrid methods for two first-order system least squares (FOSLS) using bilinear finite elements are developed for the pure traction problem of planar linear elasticity. They are two-stage algorithms that first solve for the gradients of displacement, then for the displacement itself. In this paper, concentration is given on solving for the gradients of displacement only. Numerical results show that the convergences are uniform even as the material becomes nearly incompressible. Computations for convergence rates are included.
This paper presents two fast least-squares lattice algorithms for adaptive nonlinear filters equipped with bilinear system models. The lattice filters perform a Gram-Schmidt orthogonalization of the input data and have very good numerical properties. Furthermore, the computational complexity of the algorithms is an order of magnitude snaller than previously algorithm is an order of magnitude smaller than previously available methods. The first of the two approaches is an equation error algorithm that uses the measured desired response signal directly to comprte the adaptive filter outputs. This method is conceptually very simple`however, it will result in biased system models in the presence of measurement noise. The second approach is an approximate least-squares output error solution. In this case, the past samples of the output of the adaptive system itself are used to produce the filter output at the current time. Results of several experiments that demonstrate and compare the properties of the adaptive bilinear filters are also presented in this paper. These results indicate that the output error algorithm is less sensitive to output measurement noise than the squation error method.
The stresses and deflections in a laminated rectangular plate under thermal vibration are determined by using the moving least squares differential quadrature (MLSDQ) method based on the first order shear deformation theory. The weighting coefficients used in MLSDQ approximation are obtained through a fast computation of the MLS shape functions and their partial derivatives. By using this method, the governing differential equations are transformed into sets of linear homogeneous algebraic equations in terms of the displacement components at each discrete point. Boundary conditions are implemented through discrete grid points by constraining displacements, bending moments and rotations of the plate. Solving this set of algebraic equations yields the displacement components. Then substituting these displacements into the constitutive equation, we obtain the stresses. The approximate solutions for stress and deflection of laminated plate with cross layer under thermal load are obtained. Numerical results show that the MLSDQ method provides rapidly convergent and accurate solutions for calculating the stresses and deflections in a multi-layered plate of cross ply laminate subjected to thermal vibration of sinusoidal temperature including shear deformation with a few grid points.
In response surface experiments, a polynomial model is often used to fit the response surface by the method of least squares. However, if the vectors of predictor variables are multicollinear, least squares estimates of the regression parameters have a high probability of being unsatisfactory. Hoerland Kennard have demonstrated that these undesirable effects of multicollinearity can be reduced by using "ridge" estimates in place of the least squares estimates. Ridge regrssion theory in literature has been mainly concerned with selection of k for the first order polynomial regression model and the precision of $\hat{\beta}(k)$, the ridge estimator of regression parameters. The problem considered in this paper is that of selecting k of ridge regression for a given polynomial regression model with an arbitrary order. A criterion is proposed for selection of k in the context of integrated mean square error of fitted responses, and illustrated with an example. Also, a type of admissibility condition is established and proved for the propose criterion.criterion.
This study presents a method for health monitoring of rotating objects for mobility based on multiple recursive least squares(RLS) algorithms. The performance degradation of the rotating objects causes low handing / low driving performances and even fatal accidents. Therefore, health monitoring algorithm of rotating objects is one of the important technologies for mobility fail-safe and maintenance areas. In order for health monitoring of rotating objects, four recursive least squares algorithms with forgetting factor were designed in this study. The health monitoring algorithm proposed in this study consists of two steps such as uncertainty estimation and parameter changes estimation. In order to improve estimation accuracy, time delay function was applied to the estimated signals based on the first order differential equation and forgetting factors used for the RLS were reasonably tuned. The health monitoring algorithm was constructed in Matlab/Simulink environment and simulation-based performance evaluation was conducted using DC motor model. The evaluation results showed that the proposed algorithm estimates the actual parameter differences reasonably using velocity and current information.
