  • According to the current law, on-site flame resistant-treated interior decorations should pass the flame resistant performance test through a 45 degree combustion test from the district fire department. Although a 45 degree combustion test is the most accurate method for determining the flame resistant performance, it can be unreliable when tested on unauthorized samples. To avoid unauthorized sampling, this study suggests on-site flame resistant inspection by X-ray fluorescence spectrometer. Ten types of flame resistant paint were spread on plywoods and MDFs and the components were analyzed by X-ray fluorescence spectrometer. As a result, due to a difference amounts of substances in each paint, each flame resistant paints showed its own characteristic spectrum and the contents of each substance could be determined. On-site flame resistant inspections can be used efficiently when institutional procedures are created.

  • In this study, species resistant to forest fire were extracted from high trees through an investigation of combustion mechanism. Here, the average flameless ignition temperatures of living leaves, branches and barks of oak were respectively, $365^{\circ}C$, $440^{\circ}C$ and $435^{\circ}C$, and the average flameless ignition temperatures of living leaves, branches, barks and cones of pine tree were respectively, $320^{\circ}C$, $405^{\circ}C$, $435^{\circ}C$ and $363^{\circ}C$. It shows that generally, pine tree has a lower flameless ignition temperature than oak and thus, has a relatively high risk of flameless ignition. When comparing risk of fire depending on ignition characteristics, Quercus serrata had a low risk of stem fire, and Quercus acutissima and Quercus serrata had a low risk of crown fire, as well. When analysing risk of fire depending on a duration of flame, also, Quercus dentata had a low risk of stem fire, and Quercus variabilis Blume had a low risk of crown fire too. Lastly, when comparing risk of fire, according to heat release rates, Quercus acutissima had a low risk of stem fire, and Quercus acutissima and Quercus dentata had a low risk of crown fire, as well. In conclusion, it was observed that as fire-resistant species, Quercus serrata and Quercus dentata have a low risk of ignition, Quercus variabilis Blume has a short duration of flame after discharging ignition when a forest fire occurs, and Quercus acutissima, Pinus Rigida and Antipathes japonica Brook have low heat release rates.

  • This study is a research for analysis the states of flame resistant treatment and its system which important in fire prevention by ignition delay of early stage of fire. Some problems arose in the flame resistant treatment site were analysed through the meeting with fire officer and businessman related with flame resistant treatment, and visiting the flame resistant treatment places. From the meeting, visiting and reviewing the code system we find the following problems. First one is a problem of excessive competition with many company in small market of flame resistant treatment and to reduce the cost, the businessman who have no professional technic do not work along the specification. Second one is the inspection system which do not inspect on site but inspect by sampling the flame resistant treated materials submitted by businessman. And there are some problems arose about the reliability and consistency of flame resistant performance of the sample and the treated site. To solve the above problems, we suggest some countermeasure.

  • The goal of fire prevention research is to eliminate fires as a cause of fatal accidents and there are two main areas of research. One is to prevent flame propagation during in-flight and it addresses fire hazards. The other is to minimize the possibility of flame penetration or fuselage burn-through and it aims toward post-crash survival include crash protection, emergency evacuation and post-evacuation survival. Civil aviation authorities world-wide are trying to identify threats and measure performance for fire prevention. The results of research are standardized and given as general directions of test methods. This paper has prepared to study and present the means of compliance to the fire prevention requirements and applicable test methods.

  • High strength concrete used for large structures is vulnerable to fire due to explosive spalling when it is heated. Recently, various research is conducted to enhance the fire-resistance of the high strength concrete by reducing the explosive spalling at the elevated temperature. In this study, a heat transfer analysis model is proposed for a fiber-embedded fire-resistant high strength concrete. The material model of the fire-resistant high strength concrete is selected from the calibrated material model of a high strength concrete incorporating thermal properties of fibers and physical behavior of internal concrete at the elevated temperature. By comparing the simulated results using the calibrated model with the experimental results, the heat transfer model of the fiber-embedded fire-resistant high strength concrete is proposed.

  • This study has conducted an experiment of comparing the flame resistant performance and combustion characteristics according to flame resistant treatment using the Cypress Luba and particle board that is commonly used for interior decoration and furniture. As a result of testing the flame resistant performance of Cypress Luba, the Cypress Luba injected with flame resistant resin using the vacuum pressure treatment has shown to have better performances (carbonized area 9.55% and carbonized length 22.91%) than the Cypress Luba treated with flame resistant coating having rubberized plastic components on its surface. For particle board, the specimen attached with fireproof film was identified to be better (carbonized area 40.10% and carbonized length 43.40%) than the specimen with non-fireproof film. For the results of combustion characteristics using the Cone Calorimeter, the specimen treated with flame resistant coating on the surface had faster ignition than the Cypress Luba injected with fire resistant resin using vacuum pressure treatment, and in the total release of calories, the Cypress Luba injected with fire resistant resin using vacuum pressure had $68.2MJ/m^2$, and the specimen treated with fire resistant coating on the surface had $111.52MJ/m^2$. For the particle board, the ignition time had a little difference but in the total release of calories, the specimen attached with fireproof film had $90.1MJ/m^2$ and the specimen with non-fireproof film had $107.6MJ/m^2$.

  • 17 kinds of fire resistant paint which are currently used were painted on the MDF(middle density fiber board), which suitable to the regulation of Fire Service Act. And we investigate a ignition delay effect under a exposure condition of radiative heat of fire. Radiative heat flux was controlled from $10kW/m^2$ to $30kW/m^2$ using the cone heater. Ignition time, ignition type and surface temperature of the sample were measured. Based on the experimental result, critical heat flux of the fire resistant paint treated sample was $10kW/m^2$ and there were no ignition delay effect above the $30kW/m^2$. And it was found that it will be difficult to expect the fire resistant effect above $400^{\circ}C$ of sample surface temperature.

  • Researches on fire resistant performance of primary structural elements such as columns and beams located at above the ground have actively been doing than those located at the below the ground from many researchers. But the structural elements such as columns at underground is very important in aspects of not only structural performance but also fire environment. The columns at the basement carry all the structural loads from the above and that means very critical in fire circumstances than that located at above the grounds. To evaluate the fire resistance performance of primary structural elements located at below the ground we conducted several sorts of surveys that contained fire regulations from several countries and structural types, materials and status of passive fire protection methods.

  • The buildings constructed with steel structure are coated with certified fire resistive material to resist from fire. All the building materials lose their initial performances as time passes by, so they need some maintenance. The Sprayed Fire Resistive Material (SFRM) also loses its performance and this performance loss of the SFRM is very important because fire resistance of buildings depends on SFRM. So this study was aimed to synthesis of alkali-silicates for SFRM and to evaluate the effect of alkali-silicates, K-silicates, Na-silicates and Li-silicates, by exchange of mole ratios as basic factors, tested solubility, intumescence ratios, thermal analysis, powder X-ray diffraction, fire-resistant and heat-resistant.
