The smoke removal rate from a room with an opening was investigated for different smoke control systems by using the large eddy simulation turbulence model of the Fire Dynamics Simulator. The decreasing rate of the particles randomly distributed in the 2m X 2m X 2.4m room was com-pared for the ventilation system, pressurization system and extraction system, and for the air flowrate of the ventilation system. Difference in the smoke removal rate among the three smoke control systems was small when the opening was closed. The pressurization system showed less smoke removal rate than the other two systems when the opening existed, and hence is not recommended for subway stations with large openings. It was also shown that a less flowrate in the ventilation system leads to a much longer smoke removal time.
Fire protection for nuclear power plants should be designed according to the concept of "Defense in Depth" to achieve the reactor safety shutdown. This concept focuses on fire prevention, fire suppression and safe shutdown. Fire prevention is the first line of "Defense in Depth" and the licensee should establish administrative measures to minimize the potential for fire to occur. Administrative measures should include procedures to control handling and use of combustibles. Electrical cables is the major contributor of fire loads in nuclear power plants, therefore electrical cables should be fire retardant. Electrical cables installed in nuclear power plants should pass the flame test in IEEE-383 standard in accordance with NUREG-0800, "Standard Review Plan for the Review of Safety Analysis Reports for Nuclear Power Plants". To assure the fire retardant of electrical cables during design life, both aged and unaged cable specimens should be tested in accordance with IEEE-383. It can be generally thought that the flammability of electrical cables has been increased by wearing as time passed, however the results from fire retardant tests performed in U.S.A and Korea indicate the inconsistent tendency of aging and consequential decrease in flammability. In this study, it is expected that the effective methodology for validation of fire retardant performance would be identified through the review of the results from fire retardant tests.
This paper is an experimental study to find an optimal detection method for detecting fire early in a rack-type warehouse stored with goods. In this study, we constructed rack-type structure with the fourth floor of 13.5 m high and conducted fire experiments which were to measure flow of heat/smoke in rack-type structure and response time of fire detectors. The detectors used at experiments were fixed temperature type detectors, rate of rise detectors, photoelectric smoke detectors, air sampling smoke detectors and flame detectors. The used ignition sources are n-heptane fire for response of heat detection and cotton fire for response of smoke detection. The fixed temperature type detectors, rate of rise detectors and photoelectric detectors were installed to every rack level respectively. The results show that the rate of rise detector should be installed every 2 levels and photoelectric smoke detector should be installed every 4 levels for the early stage fire detection. Air sampling smoke detectors can detect fire early in response to control of sensitivity, but there is a problem in false alarm. The fixed temperature detector is not suitable for early stage fire detection in warehouse and flame detector not worked if flame is not visible, so it need to install combination with other detector.
The major causes of electrical fire are classified to short circuit fault, overload fault, electric leakage and electric contact failure. The occurrence factor of the fire is electric arc or spark accompanied with electrical faults. Residual Current Protective Device(RCD) of high sensitivity type used at low voltage wiring cuts off earth leakage and overload, but the RCD can't cut off electric arc or spark to be a major factor of electrical fire. As the RCDs which are applied low voltage distribution panel are prescribed to rated breaking time about 30[ms](KS C 4613), the RCDs can't perceive to the periodic electric arc or spark of more short wavelength level. To be improved on such problem, this paper is proposed to a auxiliary control apparatus for RCD trip on electric arc or spark due to electrical fire. Some experimental results of the proposed apparatus is confirmed to the validity of the analytical results.
The fire and explosion properties necessary for waste, safe storage, transport, process design and operation of handling flammable substances are lower explosion limits(LEL), upper explosion limits(UEL), flash point, AIT( minimum autoignition temperature or spontaneous ignition temperature), fire point etc., An accurate knowledge of the combustion properties is important in developing appropriate prevention and control measures fire and explosion protection in chemical plants. In order to know the accuracy of data in MSDSs(material safety data sheets), the flash point of phenol was measured by Setaflash, Pensky-Martens, Tag, and Cleveland testers. And the AIT of phenol was measured by ASTM 659E apparatus. The explosion limits of phenol was investigated in the reference data. The flash point of phenol by using Setaflash and Pensky-Martens closed-cup testers were experimented at $75^{\circ}C$ and $81^{\circ}C$, respectively. The flash points of phenol by Tag and Cleveland open cup testers were experimented at $82^{\circ}C$ and $89^{\circ}C$, respectively. The AIT of phenol was experimented at $589^{\circ}C$. The LEL and UEL calculated by using Setaflash lower and upper flash point value were calculated as 1.36vol% and 8.67vol%, respectively. By using the relationship between the spontaneous ignition temperature and the ignition delay time proposed, it is possible to predict the ignition delay time at different temperatures in the handling process of phenol.
In the normally, exit sign is always lighting on status by the connected to normal electrical source. So, there are happened to rise of the economical cost such as power consumption, maintenances and repair replacement of lamp etc. This paper are study on the new exit sign circuits by using high efficiency LED that is available for remote control and reduceible to power consumption, maintenance cost by the way of compensation fluorescent and incandescent lamps. As a results on the study, exit sign lamp is capable of control and supervisory in trigger angle by the remote control switch, widely and easily. And then, the response time was very fast in 600〔$\mu$s〕and also it can be find that the rising and fall time of oscillate circuit is maximum 200〔ns〕 as high sensitively. Finally, it obtain to the result that reducible of electrical power consumption and not required for replacement of lamp by using the high efficiency LED lighting source.
The government of South Korea has made great efforts in the area of railway safety management by means of a railway safety law and an integrated railway safety plan established in 2004 after the Daegu subway fire accident. However, after certain railway incidents, a reactive railway safety management system has been implemented that has led to fatal accidents caused by the collision, derailment, and fire every year. Hence, this study is intended to propose a framework that integrates data from distributed detection devices into a real-time railway safety monitoring and control system for proactive safety management. Furthermore, we will provide a future development direction for safety performance monitoring indicators to determine whether the railway safety monitoring and control system works effectively. The proposed framework is expected to be a cornerstone for the real-time railway safety monitoring and control system to be implemented in the future.
To preventively control fire blight in apple trees and determine policies regarding field monitoring, the Maryblyt ver. 7.1 model (MARYBLYT) was evaluated in the cities of Chungju, Jecheon, and Eumseong in Korea from 2015 to 2020. The number of blossom infection alerts was the highest in 2020 and the lowest in 2017 and 2018. And the common feature of MARYBLYT blossom infection risks during the flowering period was that the time of BIR-High or BIR-Infection alerts was the same regardless of location. The flowering periods of the trees required to operate the model varied according to the year and geographic location. The model predicts the risk of "Infection" during the flowering periods, and recommends the appropriate times to control blossom infection. In 2020, when flower blight was severe, the difference between the expected date of blossom blight symptoms presented by MARYBLYT and the date of actual symptom detection was only 1-3 days, implying that MARYBLYT is highly accurate. As the model was originally developed based on data obtained from the eastern region of the United States, which has a climate similar to that of Korea, this model can be used in Korea. To improve field utilization, however, the entire flowering period of multiple apple varieties needs to be considered when the model is applied. MARYBLYT is believed to be a useful tool for determining when to control and monitor apple cultivation areas that suffer from serious fire blight problems.

Building energy saving is one of the most important issues in these days. Energy saving control strategies should be developed properly to achieve the saving. One of such area we could apply is the HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning) system. Through the optimal control algorithm for building energy management system (EMS), you can not only save the cost of building energy, but also protect HVAC system components against the unexpected condition. In order to verify the effectiveness of building energy saving, field test was accomplished for several months at 'A' building. And to get the measured data, remote control was used. If the remote control is used in BAS (Building Automation System), control and monitoring can be done for all of the building systems, such as HVAC, power, lighting, security and fire-alarm etc. anywhere any time. Using the remote control, Control and monitoring is possible for the testing system without going there. As the results of field test, we could reduce $5{\sim}10\%$ of the building energy cost.

Concrete filled tube (CFT) columns, which consist of a steel tube filled with concrete, combine the benefits of the two materials. The steel tube provides a confining pressure to the concrete, while the local buckling of steel plate can be prevented by the concrete core. CFT columns also have a high fire resistance due to the heat storage effect of concrete under fire. For this reason, it is possible to develop CFT columns without fire protection measures. CFT columns without fire protection have many advantages, including quality control, cost reduction, better space efficiency and a shorter construction period. Due to these advantages, studies on the development of CFT columns without fire protection measures have been performed. However, CFT columns lose their bearing capacity under fire because the steel tube is exposed to the outside. As a result, the structure is collapsed, causing significant damage. In this research, we made a CFT column using high strength concrete (100 MPa) and high strength steel (800 MPa). We use steel fiber and nylon fiber with concrete to provide fire resistance. We perform the fresh concrete experiment and investigate the fire resistance of the CFT column (${\Box}400{\times}400{\times}15{\times}3000mm$) under loading. To investigate the effect of steel fiber on increasing fire resistance, we compare the fire resistance time according to the steel fiber. Through the test, it was found that the CFT specimen with steel fiber had better fire resistance performance than other cases.
