  • The machine locking system is an important device for the safety of persons using the machine. In this study, a locking system using electromagnetic fields is proposed to decrease the defects and the cost for repairing and maintenance of the existing locking system using structural mechanism. We analyze the electromagnetic locking system and calculate the generated force considering direction by the finite element method. Also, we set up two design domains for the topology optimization; first domain is optimized to reduce the volume and the other is optimized to maximize the generated force keeping the volume, especially. The optimal design is obtained by integration of the two optimized results. An improved design is obtained by the optimal topology and it is confirmed by comparison with the initial locking system.

  • This paper presents structural topology optimization that is being applied for the design of electromagnetic vibration energy harvester. The design goal is to maximize the root-mean-square value of output voltage generated by external vibration leading structures. To calculate the output voltage, the magnetic field analysis is performed by using the finite element method, and the obtained magnetic flux linkage is interpolated by using Lagrange polynomials. To achieve the design goal, permanent magnet is designed by using topology optimization. The analytical design sensitivity is derived from the adjoint variable method, and the formulated optimization problem is solved through the method of moving asymptotes (MMA). As optimization results, the optimal location and shape of the permanent magnet are provided when the magnetization direction is fixed. In addition, the optimization results including the design of magnetization direction are provided.

  • This paper presents a method using finite element analysis and topology optimization to address the issue of overdesign in pressure-explosion proof enclosure doors for semiconductor manufacturing processes. The design conducted in this paper focuses on the pattern design of the enclosure door and its fixation components. The process consists of a solid-filled model, a topology optimization model, and a post-processing model. By applying environmental conditions to each model and comparing the maximum displacement, maximum equivalent stress, and weight values, it was confirmed that a reduction of about 13% in weight is achievable.

  • The objective of this paper is to optimize the cross-section of aluminum decking units used in the bass boats under operating conditions, and to verify the optimized model from the results via by ANSYS software. Aluminum decking unit is needed to endure specific loading while leisure activity and sailing. For a stiffer and more cost-neutral aluminum decking unit, optimization is often considered in the naval and marine industries. This optimization of the aluminum decking unit is performed using the ANSYS program, which is based on the topology optimization method. The generation of finite element models and stress evaluations are conducted using the ANSYS Multiphysics module, which is based on the Finite Element Method (FEM). Through such a series of studies, it was possible to determine the most suitable case for satisfying the structural strength found among the phase-optimized aluminum deck units in bass boats. From these optimization results, CASE 1 shows the best solution in comparison with the other cases for this optimization. By linking the topology optimization with the structural strength analysis, the optimal solution can be found in a relatively short amount of time, and these procedures are expected to be applicable to many fields of engineering.

  • Any Hausdoroff space on a set which has at least two points a regular closed Boolean algebra different from the indiscrete regular closed Boolean algebra as indiscrete space. The Sierpinski space and the space with finite complement topology on any infinite set etc. do the same. However, there is $T_{0}$ space which does the same with Hausdorpff space as above. The regular closed Boolean algebra in a topological space is isomorphic to that algebra in the space with its open extension topology.

  • The nonlinear transient characteristic of single-phase induction motor for rotary compressor is analysed by using FLUX2D. And the topology optimization is investigated and the TOPEM (Topology Optimization for Electromagnetic Systems) is developed using the finite element method (FEM). The proposed method is validated by applying it to the topology optimizations of single-phase induction motor for reducing the oil circulation rate (OCR).

  • A parallelized topology design optimization method is developed on a distributed memory system. The parallelization is based on a domain decomposition method and a boundary communication scheme. For the finite element analysis of structural responses and design sensitivities, the PCG method based on a Krylov iterative scheme is employed. Also a parallelized optimization method of optimality criteria is used to solve large-scale topology optimization problems. Through several numerical examples, the developed method shows efficient and acceptable topology optimization results for the large-scale problems.

  • The objective of this work is to integrate reliability analysis into topology optimization problems. We introduce the reliability constraint in the topology optimization formulation, and the new model is called Reliability-Based Topology Optimization (RBTO). The application of the RBTO model gives a different topology relative to the classical topology optimization that should be deterministic. When comparing the structures resulting from the deterministic topology optimization and from the RBTO model, the RBTO model yields structures that are more reliable than the deterministic ones (for the same weight). Several applications show the importance of this integration.

  • A simple octree encoding algorithm based on a tetrahedron root has been developed to be used for fully automatic generation of three dimensional finite element meshes. This algorithm starts octree decomposition from a tetrahedron root node instead of a hexahedron root node so that the terminal mode has the same topology as the final tetrahedral mesh. As a result, the terminal octant can be used as a tetrahedral finite element without transforming its topology. In this part(I) of the thesis, an efficient algorithm for the tetrahedron-based octree is proposed. For this development, the following problems have been solved, : (1) an efficient data structure for storing the octree and finite elements, (2) an encoding scheme of a tetrahedral octree, (3) a neighbor finding technique for the tetrahedron-based octree.

  • The conventional optimization study for electromagnetic systems has been mostly on the shape or size optimization. The goal for these optimization methods is to improve performance of electromagnetic systems by optimizing the interface shape of two different materials while their given layout or initial topology are held. The feasible topology can be diverse and an appropriate topology will give much better design results. In this paper we propose a theory and an algorithm for topology optimization of electromagnetic systems, which are based on the finite element method. The topology optimization technique employes a direct searching method of sensitivity analysis in which the information of material sensitivity is used. Two numerical examples of a switched reluctance motor and an electrostatic actuator of MEMS are tested and their design results show that the optimization method is valid and useful for the topology and basic layout design of electromagnetic systems.
