AlN plates were fabricated by hot pressing at $1700-1900^{\circ}C$ using yttria and alumina (3 and $10\;{\mu}m$ particle size) powders as additives and characterized: density, thermal conductivity, transverse rupture strength, and grain size measurement by SEM and EDS. Density values of $3.31-3.34\;g/cm^3$ are largely attributed to hot pressing of powder mixtures in carbon mold under $N_2$ atmosphere which caused effective degree of oxygen removal from yttrium-aluminate phase expected to form at $1100^{\circ}C$. The grain size of hot pressed AlN was almost homogeneous, with size approximately from 3.2 to $4.0\;{\mu}m$ after hot pressing. $Al_2O_3$ powder of $3\;{\mu}m$ particle size resulted in better transverse rupture strength and finer grain size compared to $10\;{\mu}m$$Al_2O_3$ powder. The thermal conductivity of AlN ranged between $83-92.7\;W/m{\cdot}K$ and decreased with $Al_2O_3$ addition. Fine grain size is preferred for better mechanical properties and thermal conductivity.
Treating bulk superalloy scrap with molten zinc has been studled to facililate recycling and recovery- of cobalt.Superalloys investigated were the cobalt-base Mar-M-509 and X45 and the nickel-base Rene 80. Charges withZnlscrap ratlos of 1.5-6.5 were heated to 750-9002 far 1-7.5 hours in a nitrogen atmosphere. The moltenzinc dissolved superalloy scrap and zinc was removed by vacuum distillation at 850-Wk for 4-6 hours. Ithas been concluded that the optimum conditions of decomposition for Mar-M-509 and Rene 80 \"ere dissolutiontemperature of about 850k, Znlscrap ratlo of about 5, and dissalution time of about 5.5 hours. The zinc-treatedsuperalloy prouducts were friable and reacted rapidly with acid solutions. Leaching 9mm pieces of unalloyedMar-M-509 or Rene 80 with 5 times the stolchlometric amount oi 6N HCI at 90t ior 3 hours dissolved about1.5-7.270, while leachmg of the minus 20-mesh products dissolved about 89.0-93.0%.ved about 89.0-93.0%.
$LiCoO_2$ powder was synthesized in an aqueous solution by a sol-gel method and used as a cathode active material for a lithium ion rechargeable battery. The layered $LiCoO_2$ powders were prepared by igniting in air for 12 hrs at 600 ℃ $(600-LiCoO_2)$ and 850 ℃ $(850-LiCoO_2)$. The structure of the $LiCoO_2$ powder was assigned to the space group R bar 3 m (lattice parameters a=2.814 Å and c=14.04Å). The SEM pictures of $600-LiCoO_2$ revealed homogeneous and fine particles of about 1 μm in diameter. Cyclic voltammograms (CVs) of $600-LiCoO_2$ electrode displayed a set of redox peaks at 3.80/4.05 V due to the intercalation/deintercalation of the lithium ions into/out of the $LiCoO_2$ structure. CVs for the $850-LiCoO_2$ electrode had a major set of redox peaks at 3.88/4.13 V, and two small set of redox peaks at 4.18/4.42 V and 4.05/4.25 V due to phase transitions. The initial charge-discharge capacity was 156-132 mAh/g for the $600-LiCoO_2$ electrode and 158-131 mAh/g for the $850-LiCoO_2$ electrode at the current density of 0.2 mA/cm2. The cycleability of the cell consisting of the $600-LiCoO_2$ electrode was better than that of the $850-LiCoO_2$. The diffusion coefficient of the $Li^+$ ion in the $600-LiCoO_2$ electrode was calculated as $4.6{\times}10^{-8}\; cm^2/sec$.

Disposal nonconformity of radioactive wastes refers to radioactive wastes that need to be treated, solidified and packaged during operation or decommissioning of NPPs, and are typically exemplified by particulate radioactive wastes with dispersion characteristics. These wastes include the dried powders of concentrated wastes generated in the process of operating NPPs, slurry and sludge, various powdered wastes generated in the decommissioning process (crushed concrete, decontamination sludge, etc.), and fine radioactive soil, which is not easy to decontaminate. As these particulate wastes must be packaged so that they become non-dispersive, they are solidified with solidification agents such as cement and polymer. If they are treated using existing solidification methods, however, the volume of the final wastes will increase. This drawback may increase the disposal cost and reduce the acceptability of disposal sites. Accordingly, to solve these problems, this study investigates the pelletization of particulate radioactive wastes in order to reduce final waste volume.

A dense nanostructured TiN-AlN composite was prepared from high-energy ball milled TiN-AlN mixture powders by pulsed current activated sintering (PCAS). A highly dense TiN-AlN bulk composite was obtained within 2 minutes at $1500^{\circ}C$ with the simultaneous application of 80 MPa pressure and pulsed current. The fine crystalline structure of the TiN-AlN mixture, which was obtained by high-energy milling, was effectively maintained during PCAS and resulted in the enhancement of the mechanical properties. The micro hardness and fracture toughness of TiN-AlN composite were $1780kg/mm^2$ and $5MPa.m^{1/2}$, respectively. The mechanical properties were higher than monolithic AlN or TiN.

Conventionally, metal materials are produced by subtractive manufacturing followed by melting. However, there has been an increasing interest in additive manufacturing, especially metal 3D printing technology, which is relatively inexpensive because of the absence of complicated processing steps. In this study, we focus on the effect of varying powder size on the synthesis quality, and suggest optimum process conditions for the preparation of AlCrFeNi high-entropy alloy powder. The SEM image of the as-fabricated specimens show countless, fine, as-synthesized powders. Furthermore, we have examined the phase and microstructure before and after 3D printing, and found that there are no noticeable changes in the phase or microstructure. However, it was determined that the larger the powder size, the better the Vickers hardness of the material. This study sheds light on the optimization of process conditions in the metal 3D printing field.

This study aimed to explore the biodiversity of chemical compounds found in the bark of Guibourtia tessmannii from Gabon, commonly called Kévazingo, and evaluate their anti-termite activity to determine their potential values as a source of development of anti-termite products that can be valued in the fields of fine chemicals and wood preservation. Extraction of G. tessmannii bark powders was carried out using the cold maceration method with trichloroethylene, acetone, ethanol, and water. Phytochemical screening made it possible to highlight groups of chemical families present in the extracts. Anti-termite activity was tested on the wild termites "Cubitermes sp" of the genus Isoptera. The yield of the extracts were 17.11% for the buttress and 13.42% for the height at 6 m. Phytochemical tests revealed that alkaloids, polyphenols, sterols, tannins, reducing compounds, flavonoids, saponins, and anthraquinones were present in the extracts. Results of anti-termite activity indicated that anti-termite activity varied with the different parts of the bark studied, extraction solvent, and concentration (50/50) and (25/75) of the extracts used. The extracts at 50/50 concentration showed a slightly better anti-termite activity compared to the 25/75 concentration. In addition, the buttress Kévazingo or buttress showed the strongest anti-termite activity for the aqueous extract with a survival rate of 0% after 2 days.

The high velocity oxygen fuel spraying (HVOF) is a kind of surface modification process technology to form the sprayed coating layer after spraying the powder to molten or semi-molten state by the ultra-high speed at the high-temperature heat source and conflicting with a substrate. It is desirable to melt completely the thermal spray powder in order to produce the coating layer with an optimal adhesion, however, because a semi-molten powder in a spray process has the low efficiency and become a factor that degrades the mechanical property by the inducement of pore-forming within the coating layer. To improve the wear resistance, corrosion resistance and heat resistance, in this study, the plungers of high-speed and ultra-high pressure reciprocating hydraulic pumps for oil and water used in ironwork are produced with $420J_2$ and the coating layers of plungers are formed by the powders of WC-Co-Cr and WC-Cr-Ni including the high hardness WC. The surface of these plungers is modified by the super-mirror face grinding machine using variable air pressure developed in this laboratory, and then the characteristics of cross-sectional microstructure, and surface roughness and hardness values between no operation and 100 days-operation are examined and made a comparison. The fine tops and bottoms on surface roughness curve of oil-hydraulic pump plunger sprayed by WC-Cr-Ni are molded more and higher than those of water-hydraulic pump sprayed by WC-Co-Cr because the plunger diameter of oil-hydraulic pump is 0.4 times smaller than that of water-hydraulic pump and the pressure of oil-hydraulic pump exerted on the plunger is operated with the 70 bars higher than that of water-hydraulic pump. As a result, it is found that the values of centerline average surface roughness and maximum height for oil-hydraulic pump plunger are bigger than those of water-hydraulic pump plunger.
The oxygen deficient ferrites $(Ni_x,\; Zn_{1-x})Fe_2O_{4-{\delta}}$ can decompose $CO_2$ as C and $O_2$ at a low temperature of about $300^{\circ}C$. Ultra powders of $(Ni_x,\; Zn_{1-x})Fe_2O_4$ for the $CO_2$ decomposition were prepared by the hydrothermal methods. The XRD result of synthesized ferries showed the spinel structure of ferrites and ICP-AES and EDS quantitative analyses showed the composition similar with the starting molar ratios of the mixed solution prior to reaction. The BET surface area of the synthesized(Ni, Zn)-ferrites was above $110\textrm{m}^2/g$ and its particle size was very as small as about 5~10 nm. The $CO_2$ decomposition efficiency of the oxygen deficient ferrites($(Ni_x,\;Zn_{1-x})Fe_2O_{4-{\delta}}$) was almost independent with composition and the $CO_2$ decomposition efficiency of ternary (Ni, Zn)-ferrites was better than of binary Ni-ferrites.
In order to characterize the influence of the reaction-site density on the cathodic polarization property of LSCF, we chose the porosity of LSCF as a main controlling variable, which is supposed to be closely related with active sites for the cathode reaction. To control the porosity of cathodes, we changed the mixing ratio of fine and coarse LSCF powders. The porosity and pore perimeter of cathodes were quantitatively analyzed by image analysis. The electrochemical half cell test for the cathodic polarization was performed via 3-probe AC-impedance spectroscopy. According to the investigation, the reduction of oxygen at LSCF cathode was mainly controlled by following two rate determining steps; i) surface diffusion and/or ionic conduction of ionized oxygen through bulk LSCF phase, ii) charge transfer of oxygen ion at cathode/electrolyte interface. Moreover, the overall cathode polarization was diminished as the cathode porosity increased due to the increase of the active reaction sites in cathode layer.
