Rotifer grazing rates in both species and community levels on bacteria and phytoplankton were determined by using representative models (fluorescent beads: 0.75$\mu m$ for bacteria and 10 $\mu m$ for phytoplankton) at biweekly intervals. One-year study at the lower part of the Nakdong River (Mulgum) indicated that the seasonal pattern of rotifer biomass was similar to that of total zooplankton biomass. Total mean biomass of rotifers was significantly higher than that of other groups (rotifers, 148$\pm $327 $\mu g$C/l; cladoceran. 25$\pm 69$$\mu g$C/l; copepodids. 58$\pm 159$$\mu g$C/l). For laboratory grazing experiments. mean specific filtering rate (SFR: $ml\cdot \; l^{-1}\cdot \; day^{-1}$) for rotifers varied from 0.001 to 0.726, and > 90% individuals of rotifer species took up fluorescent microspheres. The high SFRs were achieved by Brachionus angularis, B. calyciflorus, and Filinia longiseta. Community filtering rates (CFRs, $ml\cdot \; l^{-1}\cdot \; day^{-1}$) varied in the range from 2 ~ 1,670. Rotifer filtering rates on phytoplankton were much higher than bacterial filtering rates, especially in the late growing season (May. June, and November). Rotifers appear to be important in transferring both bacterial and phytoplankton carbon to higher trophic levels at the lower Nakdong River.
To study on feeding behavior of copepods, Calanus sinicus and Acartia clausi(A. omorii), variations of filtering rate and rate of food intake with the changes of phytoplankton concentrations and time progress were measured in laboratory. Filtering rates of the two species of copepod declined with increasing of the food concentration and the averaging filtering rates C. sinicus and A. clausi were 2.42m/ copepod/hr., 3.37 ml/copepod/hr. respectively. And the rates of food intake increased with food concnetration up to a critical concentration. At higher concentrations, the rates of food intake were somewhat variable but kept the constance levels. Filtering rates of copepods with time progress didn't show diel feeding rythms and generally decreased. But filtering rate of A. Clausi increased by the increment of feeding in a few hours. consequently, two copepods showed similar tendency in the rate of food intake and filtering rate with phytoplankton concentrations. However, the measured values appeared differently. And the two species of copepod with time progress showed the non-continuous feeding behavior.
This paper proposes a new method of vehicle brake lights detection and recognition using an R-filtering. Firstly, the proposed method processes the R-filtering with the first input image and then with the second one in order to detect brake lights. Secondly, the method counts the number of red pixels and computes the mean value in each R-filtered image. The difference rates between the numbers of the red pixels and between the mean values of two images are defined in this paper. Through the analysis of the difference rates, it can recognize whether brake lights are turned on or off, and whether the vehicle ahead is being approached or not. The proposed method is implemented using C language in an embedded Linux system for a high-speed real-time image processing. Experiment results show that the proposed algorithm is quite successful.
The present study was conducted to develop a milk filtering system for decreasing somatic cell count (SCC) in bulk tank milk. The pore sizes of the filter were 0.1, 0.3, 0.4, 0.5 and $0.8{\mu}m$. The rate of SCC reduction of $1^{st}$ grade milk on $0.1{\mu}m$ filter was 76% and significantly higher than other treatments. The rates of SCC reduction for 0.3, 0.4, 0.5 and $0.8{\mu}m$ were 35, 32, 18 and 6.4%, respectively. The effects of the milk filtering system on bacterial count and milk fat content were minimal. The milk flow rates per minute between the filter sizes were similar. But discharge pressures were increased as the pore size of the filter decreased. In conclusion, Considering the rate of SCC reduction, discharge pressure and cost, $0.4{\mu}m$ filter could be recommended.

This paper proposes an efficient centralized sin91e buffer management algorithm to arbitrate access contention mon processors on the multi-processor system for high-speed Packet filtering and proves that the algorithm provides reasonable performance by implementing it and applying it to a real multi-processor system. The multi-processor system for parallel packet filtering is modeled based on a network processor to distribute the packet filtering rules throughout the processors to speed up the filtering. In this paper we changed the number of processors and the processing time of the filtering rules as variables and measured the packet transfer rates to investigate the performance of the proposed algorithm.
Filtering rates of Crassostrea gigas were experimentally investigated with reference to effects of water temperature and size. Absorptiometric determinations of filtering rates with oysters being fed diatom Chaetoceros calcirtans were carried out in a closed system. Optical density of 675nm in path length 100mm cell used as the indication of food particles absorption was appeared directly In proportion with the concentration of diatom pigment $chlorophyll-\alpha$. In the closed system where $C_0$ is $OD_{675}$ at initial time 0, $C_t$, at time t, and Z is the decreasing coefficient of OD as meaning of instantaneous removal speed, then $C_t=C_0{\cdot} e^{-2t}$, $Z=In(C_t/C_0)/t$. On the assumption that the filtering rate is constant, then removal rate per unit time (d) is $d=-e^{-z}$. If t is used to time unit of hour (hr), the filtering rate (FR) in I/hr is given by $FR=V{\cdot}d=V(1-e^{-z})$, where V is the water volume (I) of the experimental vessel. Filtering rate increased as exponential function with increasing temperature while not over critical limit. The critical temperature for filtering rate was assumed to be between $28^{\circ}C$ and $29^{\circ}C$. And the weight exponent for filtering rate is 0.223. The model formula derived from the results as FR, $Ihr^{-1}$ = $Exp(0.208{\cdot}T-4.324){\cdot} (DW)^{0.223}$ (T<29 $^{\circ}C)$ where T is water temperature $(^{\circ}C
The purposes of this study were to develop an electronic-hydraulic draft control system for tractor implements, to investigate the control performance of the system and the possibility of adaptation to the conventional tractor. Experiments were carried out to investigate the responses of the system to the step and sinusoidal inputs in draft control. The effects of control mode, hydraulic flow rate, reference deadband, and proportional constant on control performance of the system were investigated. Moreover, the effects of filtering signals from draft sensor were also investigated. The following conclusions were derived from the study; 1. In draft control, there were hunting problems in controlling the implement without filtering the draft signals. Filtering was performed by a control program of electronic controller and the control performance and stability of the system were improved significantly. 2. For the draft control system operated on on-off control mode, draft was controlled within ${\pm}27-{\pm}55kg_f$ to the reference draft when the hydraulic flow rates were 5-15 l/min. For the draft control system operated on PWM control, draft was controlled within ${\pm}27kg_f$ to the reference draft regardless of hydraulic flow rates. 3. In the frequency responses of the draft control system, control performance on PWM control mode was not better than on on-off control mode because of characteristics of hydraulic valve and drafe sensor. As the hydraulic flow rates increased for the system operated on on-off control mode, the corner frequency of amplitude attenuation increased, but the corner frequency of phase-angle change remained nearly the same. But, the system was unstable beyond the frequency of 3.1 rad/s. 4. The electronic-hydraulic hitch control system developed in this study showed superior control performance, stability and convenience compared to conventional mechanical-hydraulic hitch control system. It is considered to be a superior replacement for the conventional mechanical-hydraulic hitch control system.
We propose a new bandpass filter (BPF)-based online channel normalization method to dynamically suppress channel distortion when the speech and channel noise components are unknown. In this method, an adaptive modulation frequency filter is used to perform channel normalization, whereas conventional modulation filtering methods apply the same filter form to each utterance. In this paper, we only normalize the two mel frequency cepstral coefficients (C0 and C1) with large dynamic ranges; the computational complexity is thus decreased, and channel normalization accuracy is improved. Additionally, to update the filter weights dynamically, we normalize the learning rates using the dimensional power of each frame. Our speech recognition experiments using the proposed BPF-based blind channel normalization method show that this approach effectively removes channel distortion and results in only a minor decline in accuracy when online channel normalization processing is used instead of batch processing

Spatial database systems achieve filtering steps with MBR(Minimum founding Rectangle) for efficient query processing, and then carry out refinement steps for candidate objects. While most operations require fast execution of filtering, it is necessary to increase the filtering rates and reduce the number of refinement steps in the low computing powered devices. The compact representation method is also needed in the mobile devices with low storage capacity. The paper proposes various approximation methods for efficient spatial operations in the multiplatform environments. This paper also designs a compression technique for MBR, which occupies almost 80% of index data in the two dimensional case. We also analyze the advantages and drawbacks of each method in terms of space utilization, filtering efficiency and speed.
Collaborative filtering systems based on {user-document} matrix are effective in recommending web documents to user. But they have a shortcoming of decreasing the accuracy of recommendations by the first rater problem and the sparsity. This paper proposes the automatic preference rating method that generates user profile to solve the shortcoming. The profile in this paper is content-based collaborative user profile. The content-based collaborative user profile is generated by combining a content-based user profile with a collaborative user profile by mutual information method. Collaborative user profile is based on {user-document} matrix in collaborative filtering system, thus, content-based user profile is generated by relevance feedback in content-based filtering systems. After normalizing combined content-based collaborative user profiles, it automatically rates user preference by reflecting normalized profile in {user-document}matrix of collaborative filtering systems. We evaluated our method on a large database of user ratings for web document and it was certified that was more efficient than existent methods.
