  • Old films or photographs usually have damages from physical or chemical effects, and the damage and digitalization make stain, scratch, scribbling, noise, and digital drop out in frames. Damages include global damage and local damage, and it is well known that local damage restoration is a main factor for improving image quality. Previous researches have focused on impairment localization (esp. for line scratch impairments) and restoration techniques for line scratch, dirt, blob, and intentional scratch. Inpainting is a key technique using partial derivatives to restore damages in images. It does not show good quality for the complex images because it is based on finite order for partial derivatives, and it takes much time complexity. In this paper, we present a modified inpainting scheme, where we use Sobel edge operator's and angle to compute isophotes, and compare our scheme with Bertalmio's scheme. We experiment our scheme with two old Korean films, and Simulation results show that our scheme requires smaller time complexity than Bertalmio's scheme with comparable reconstructed image quality.

  • The water jet impingement cooling is one of the techniques to remove heat from high heat flux equipments. We investigate the local heat transfer of the confined water impinging jet and the effect of nozzle collar to enhance the heat transfer in the free surface jet and submerged jet. Boiling is initiated from the furthest downstream and the wall temperature increase is reduced with developing boiling, forming the flat temperature distributions. The reduction in the nozzle-to-surface distance for $H/W{\leq}1$ causes the significant increases and distribution changes in heat transfer. Developed boiling reduces the differences in heat transfer for various conditions. The nozzle collar is employed at the nozzle exit. The distances from heated surface to guide plate, $H_c$ are 0.25W, 0.5W and 1.0W. The liquid film thickness is reduced and the velocity of wall jet increase as decreased spacing of collar to heated surface. Heat transfer is enhanced for region from the stagnation to $x/W{\sim}8$ in the free surface jet and to $x/W{\sim}5$ in the submerged jet. For nucleate boiling region of further downstream, the heat transfer by the nozzle collar is decreased in submerged jet compare with higher velocity condition. It is because the increased velocity by collar is de-accelerated at downstream.

  • Nanocrystalline nickel (Ni) tick films were synthesized by direct current electrodeposition at current density from 1 to $30mA/cm^2$ and pH = 4. The basic composition of the bath, which was prepared by dissolving Ni metal particles in HCl, was 0.2M Ni ions. The effects of the current density on the average grain size of Ni deposits were investigated by XRD and SEM techniques. The results showed that the surface roughness was decreased as the saccharin addition was increased up to 2 g/l. The experimental results showed that the increase in the current density had a considerable effect on the average grain size of the Ni deposits. The perpendicular magnetization was raised as the thickness of coating layer was increased.

  • A series of novel polytriazoleimides were prepared from various aromatic dianhydrides and a new kind of 1,2,3-triazole-containing aromatic diamine synthesized by the Cu (I)-catalyzed 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction in DMAc, and characterized by FT-IR, $^1H$-NMR, XRD, DSC and TGA techniques. The results show the polytriazoleimides are soluble in most of strong polar solvents and have inherent viscosity values of 0.51-0.62 dL/g(DMAc). The polytriazoleimide films exhibit a tensile strength of 62.3-104.5 MPa and an elongation at breakage of 4.0-8.1%, a glass transition temperature ($T_g$) of $257-275^{\circ}C$, a decomposition temperature (at 5% weight loss) of $350-401^{\circ}C$ in $N_2$ atmosphere, and a dielectric constant of 2.47-3.01 at 10 MHz, which depend on the structure of the polymers. The polytriazoleimides perform good resistance to acid and alkali solution.

  • This study compared the macro and micro electrochemical characteristics at the local area of welding metal on dissimilar welding parts for type 304 stainless steel (SS) and type 316L SS. The materials are used for double wall gas pipe of duel fuel engine for a ship. The various potentiodynamic experiments were performed several times in 10% ${H_2C_2O_2}{\cdot}{H_2O}$ solution using macro and micro methods, respectively. The micro electrochemical experiments conducted to resolve at local area on cross-section of dissimilar welding materials by micro-droplet cell device. The micro-droplet cell techniques can be used almost electrochemical experiments to resolve corrosion characteristics of the limited electrode area of the metallic surface between wetted spot of working electrode and tip of sharpened capillary tube. The results of macro electrochemical experiments show that resistance of active dissolution reaction at welding zone was high due to low current density by formation of passivation protection film at passive region. According to the micro electrochemical experiment, the corrosion current density of welding zone and bond zone were relatively high.

  • Although yttrium iron garnet (YIG) has provided a great vehicle for the study of spin waves in the past, associated difficulties in film deposition and device fabrication using YIG had limited the applicability of spin waves to practical devices. However, microfabrication techniques have made it possible to characterize both the resonant as well as the travelling characteristics of spin waves in permalloy (Py). A variety of methods have been used for measuring spin waves, including Brillouin light scattering (BLS), magneto-optic Kerr effect (MOKE), vector network analyzer ferromagnetic resonance (VNA-FMR), and pulse inductive microwave magnetometry (PIMM). PIMM is one of the most preferred methodologies of measuring travelling spin waves. In this method, an electrical impulse is applied at one of two coplanar waveguides patterned on top of oxide-insulated Py, producing a local disturbance in the magnetization of the Py. The resulting disturbance travels down the Py in the form of waves, and is inductively picked up by the other coplanar waveguide. We investigate the effect of the pulse width of excitation pulses on the generated spin wave packets using both experimental results and micromagnetic simulations. We show that spin wave packets generated from electrical pulses are a superposition of two separate spin wave packets, one generated from the rising edge and the other from the falling edge, which interfere either constructively or destructively with one another, depending upon the magnitude and direction of the field bias conditions. A method of spin wave amplitude modulation is also presented by the linear superposition of spin waves. We use interfering spin waves resulting from two closely spaced voltage impulses for the modulation of the magnitude of the resultant spin wave packets.

  • Recently, along with technology development of endoscopic equipment, the stent technology has been developed for the convenience of operation, shortening of recovery times, and reduction of patient's pain. In this study, paclitaxel-eluting metal stents for treatment of biliary benign stenosis were developed through an electrospray-coating method. Polyether-based polyurethane (PELLETHANE 2363-80AE$^{(R)}$)) and paclitaxel were coated onto the surface of a metallic stent and Pluronic F127 was used as an additive. As a result, physicochemical characterization of paclitaxel via SEM, FTIR, contact angle and XRD techniques revealed the information of solid state of paclitaxel-loaded PU film. The in vitro release profile showed a slower release rate with a higher content of paclitaxel.

  • Composite cathodes of $50/50\;vol\%$ LSM-YSZ $(La_{-x}Sr_xMnO_3-yttria\;stabilized\;zirconia)$ were deposited onto dense YSZ electrolytes by colloidal deposition technique. The cathode characteristics were then examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and studied by ac-impedance spectroscopy (IS). The conditioning effects on LSM-YSZ cathodes were seen and remedies for these effects were noted in order to improve the performance of a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC). The effects of temperature on impedance, surface contamination on cathode bonding to YSZ electrolyte, changing Pt paste, aerosol spray technique applied to curved surface on microstructure and cell to cell variability were solved by testing at $900^{\circ}C$, sanding the YSZ surface, using only one batch of Pt paste, using flat YSZ plates and using consistent procedures and techniques, respectively. And then, reproducible impedance spectra were confirmed by using the improved cell and the typical spectra measured for an (air)LSM-YSZ/YSZ/LSM-YSZ(air) cell at $900^{\circ}C$ were composed of two depressed arcs. Impedance characteristics of the LSM-YSZ cathodes were also affected by experimental conditions such as catalytic interlayer, composite cathode compositions and applied current.

  • Previously, crystallization of a-Si:H films on glass substrates were limited to anneal temperature below 600.deg. C, over 10 hours to avoid glass shrinkage. Our study indicates that the crystallization is strongly influenced by anneal temperature and weakly affected by anneal duration time. Because of the high temperature process and nonconducting substrate requirements for poly-Si TFTs, the employed substrates were limited to quartz, sapphire, and oxidized Si wafer. We report on poly-Si TFT's using high temperature anneal on a Si:H/Mo structures. The metal Mo substrate was stable enough to allow 1000.deg. C anneal. A novel TFT fabrication was achieved by using part of the Mo substrate as drain and source ohmic contact electrode. The as-grown a-Si:H TFT was compared to anneal treated poly-Si TFT'S. Defect induced trap states of TFT's were examined using the thermally stimulated current (TSC) method. In some case, the poly-Si grain boundaries were passivated by hydrogen. A-SI:H and poly-Si TFT characteristics were investigated using an inverted staggered type TFT. The poly -Si films were achieved by various anneal techniques; isothermal, RTA, and excimer laser anneal. The TFT on as grown a-Si:H exhibited a low field effect mobility, transconductance, and high gate threshold voltage. Some films were annealed at temperatures from 200 to >$1000^{\circ}C$ The TFT on poly-Si showed an improved $I_on$$I_off$ ratio of $10_6$, reduced gate threshold voltage, and increased field effect mobility by three orders. Inverter operation was examined to verify logic circuit application using the poly Si TFTs.

  • In this work, mechanical characteristics of titanium diaphragm have been studied as a potential robust substrate and a diaphragm material for automotive tire pressure sensor. Lamination process techniques combined with traditional micromachining processes have been adopted as suitable fabrication technologies. To illustrate these principles, capacitive pressure sensors based on titanium diaphragm have been designed, fabricated and characterized. The fabrication process for micromachined titanium devices keeps the membrane and substrate being at the environment of 20 MPa pressure and $200^{\circ}C$ for a half hour and then subsequently cooled to $24^{\circ}C$. Each sensor uses a stainless steel substrate, a laminated titanium film as a suspended movable plate and a fixed, surface micromachined back electrode of electroplated nickel. The finite element method is adopted to investigate residual stresses formed in the process. Besides, out-of-plane deflections are calculated under pressures on the diaphragm. The sensitivity of the fabricated device is $9.45ppm\;kPa^{-1}$ with a net capacitance change of 0.18 pF over a range 0-210 kPa.
