Graphite reinforced conductive polymer composites were fabricated by the compression molding technique. Graphite powder (conductive filler) was mixed with an epoxy resin to impart electrical property in composites. The ratio of graphite powder was varied to investigate electrical property of cured conductive composites. In this study, graphite filled conductive polymer composites with high filler loadings$(>60wt.\%)$ were manufactured to accomplish high electrical conductivity(> 100S/cm). Graphite powder increase electrical conductivity of composites by direct physical contact between particles. While high filler loadings are needed to attain good electrical property, the composites becomes brittle. So the ratio of filler to epoxy was varied to optimize of cured composites. The optimum molding pressure according to filler was proposed experimentally.
In this paper, two kinds of buckling restrained braces (BRBs) are designed to improve the mechanical properties and fatigue life, the reserved gap and viscoelastic filler with high energy dissipation capacity are employed as the sliding element, respectively. The fatigue life of BRBs considering the effect of sliding element is predicted based on Manson-Coffin model. The property tests under different displacement amplitudes are carried out to evaluate the mechanical properties and fatigue life of BRBs. At last, the finite element analysis is performed to study the effects of the gap and viscoelastic filler on mechanical properties BRBs. Experimental and simulation results indicate that BRB employed with viscoelastic filler has a higher fatigue life and more stable mechanical property compared to BRB employed with gap, and the smaller reserved gap can more effectively improve the energy dissipation capacity of BRB.

Modified polypropylene was made of melt blending using thermostable-filler and polypropylene polymers. Modified PP were characterized for the purpose of improving a thermal-property of PP polymer with the composition of 5wt %, 10wt % of thermostable-filler. The structure and thermal-property were determined from IR, DSC, TGA, and SEM instruments. From the results of this study, it found the following facts. Firstly, it was found that the modified PP was mixed with PP and thermostable-filler qualitativly. Secondaty, thermal property of modified PP was improved steadily according to increase of ratio of thermostable-filler.
The effect of Mn and Ti contents in filler wire on the microstructure and mechanical property of weld metal has been investigated after hybrid welding with ultra fine grained (UFG) steel. The microstructure and distribution of alloy compositions at the top region of weld zone were quite different with those at the bottom region after hybrid welding. The bottom region of weld zone contained higher Mn and Ti contents, and consequently the hardness of bottom region was higher than that of top region. With the increase of Mn and Ti contents in filler wire, the volume percent of acicular ferrite in weld metal decreased, and the weld zone showed higher hardness and better impact property.
Purpose: This study is a mechanical strength supplementation of denture base resin Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) is in general use for denture base resin of the partial and full denture, however, The polymerization process of PMMA is not stabilized. Because of compatibility problems, preceding studies were performed, which were enhancing mechanical strength(Camilo Machado 2007),(Ana M. 2008), addition filler to materials property(Ayse Mese, 2008), self curing method(Hiroshi Shimizu, 2008). Methods: The carbon fiber and polyacetal filler, reinforced the mechanical strength for improving the stability of denture base resin were supplemented to the self cured resin. The Modulus of elasticity and the restoring force were calculated by tensile test. Results: The strengths of the heat and self cured resin were respectively decreased and increased, when the filler was supplemented to the denture base resin and the modulus of elasticity of both heat and self cured resin were not increased, when the filler was supplemented to the denture base resin. Conclusion: The restoring forces of self cured resin containing 10% filler were increased, when the filler was supplemented to the denture base resin.

In this study, fast-curing shielding materials were prepared with a two-component polyurethane matrix and a filler material of PbO through a one-step, laboratory-scale method. With an increase in the filler content, viscosity increased. However, the two components showed a small difference. Curing time decreased as the filler content increased. The minimum tack-free time of 27 s was obtained at a filler content of 70 wt%. Tensile strength and compressive strength initially increased and then decreased as the filler content increased. Even when the filler content reached 60 wt%, mechanical properties were still greater than those of the matrix. Cohesional strength decreased as the filler content increased. However, cohesional strength was still greater than 100 kPa at a filler content of 60 wt%. The ${\gamma}$-ray-shielding properties increased with the increase in the filler content, and composite thickness could be increased to improve the shielding performance when the energy of ${\gamma}$-rays was high. When the filler content was 60 wt%, the composite showed excellent comprehensive properties.
Polymer nanocomposites are advanced nanomaterials which exhibit dramatic improvements in various mechanical, thermal and barrier properties as compared with the neat polymer. Polystyrene/ alumina nanocomposites were prepared by an ultrasound-assisted solution casting method at filler loadings ranging from 0.2 to 2% and also at different ultrasonic frequencies, viz. 58 kHz, 192/58 kHz, 430 kHz, 470 kHz and 1 MHz. The composites were subjected to mechanical property tests (tensile and impact tests) and cavitation erosion tests to study the enhancement in functional properties. Filler dispersion in the polymer matrix was observed by SEM analysis. The effect of frequency on filler dispersion in the matrix was studied by SEM analysis and functional property enhancement of the composite material. The composites prepared at dual (high/ low) frequency (192/58 kHz) were found to show better property enhancement at low filler loadings as compared with neat polymer and also with composites prepared without ultrasound, thus reinforcing the finding that ultrasound-assisted synthesis is a promising method for the synthesis of nanocomposites.
Microstructure tailoring of filler loaded preceramic polymer systems offers a high potential for property improvement of Si-based ceramics and composites. Advancements in manufacturing of bulk materials by controlling microstructure evolution during thermal induced polymer-ceramic transforma-tion and polymer-filler reactions will be presented. Rate controlled pyrolysis, multilayer gradient laminate design and surface modification by gas solid reaction are demonstrated to yield ceramic components of high fractional density and superior mechanical properties. Emerging fields of applications are presented.

Multi-walled carbon nanotube reinforced epoxy composites were fabricated using shear mixing and sonication. The mechanical, viscoelastic, thermal, and electrical properties of the fabricated specimens were measured and evaluated. From the images and the results of the measurements of tensile strengths, the specimens having 0.6 wt% nanotube content showed better dispersion and higher strength than those of the other specimens. The Young's moduli of the specimens increased as the nanotube filler content was increased in the matrix. As the concentrations of nanotubes filler were increased in the composite specimens, their storage and loss moduli also tended to increase. The specimen having a nanotube filler content of 0.6 wt% showed higher thermal conductivity than that of the other specimens. On the other hand, in the measurement of thermal expansion, specimens having 0.4 and 0.6 wt% filler contents showed a lower value than that of the other specimens. The electrical conductivities also increased with increasing content of nanotube filler. Based on the measured and evaluated properties of the composites, it is believed that the simple and efficient fabrication process used in this study was sufficient to obtain improved properties in the specimens.
We analyzed thermal stress of the STS VOD ladle by the variation of material property of refractory, and determined the location of back filler using FE analysis. Thermal distribution of refractory of ladle between hot face and back face were decreased by the increasing the thermal conductivity, and thermal stress of refractory were decreased about 2 to 4 times with the decreasing the young's modulus coefficients. Back filler, which is constructed to absorb the thermal expansion of dolomite refractory, has relatively low thermal conductivity. Inner side of refractory of ladle maintained high temperature, but temperature of outer side of ladle decreased low. Consequently, inner expansion and outer contraction were appeared. and thermal stress were increased, so thermal stress by the construction of back filler were increased.
