  • This paper proposes an approach to fused navigation of an unmanned surface vehicle(USV) and to detection of the outlier or interference of global positioning system(GPS). The method fuses available sensor measurements through extended Kalman filter(EKF) to find the location and attitude of the USV. The method uses error covariance of EKF for detection of GPS outlier or interference. When outlier or interference of the GPS is detected, the method excludes GPS data from navigation process. The measurements to be fused for the navigation are GPS, acceleration, angular rate, magnetic field, linear velocity, range and bearing to acoustic beacons. The method is tested through simulated data and measurement data produced through ground navigation. The results show that the method detects GPS outlier or interference as well as the GPS recovery, which frees navigation from the problem of GPS abnormality.

  • To complement the method of field-scale seismic ground motion simulations by buried blast techniques, the application and evaluation of the capability of a numerical modeling platform to simulate buried explosion-induced ground motion at a real soil site is presented in this paper. Upon a layout of the experimental setup at a level site wherein multiple charges that were buried over a large-diameter circle and detonated in a planned sequence, the formulation of a numerical model of the soil and the explosives using the finite element code LS-DYNA is developed for the evaluation of the resulting ground motion and surface subsidence. With a compact elastoplastic cap model calibrated for the loess soils on the basis of the site and laboratory test program, numerical solutions are obtained by explicit time integration for various dynamic aspects and their relation with the field blast experiment. Quantitative comparison of the computed ground acceleration time histories at different locations and induced spatial subsidence on the surface afterwards is given for further engineering insights in regard to the capabilities and limitations of both the numerical and experimental approaches.

  • The acceleration of consolidation by stone columns was mostly analysed within the framework of a basic unit cell model (i.e. a cylindrical soil body around a column). A method of converting the axisymmetric unit cell into the equivalent plane-strain model would be required for two-dimensional numerical modelling of multi-column field applications. This paper proposes two practical simplified conversion methods to obtain the equivalent plane-strain model of the unit cell, and investigates their applicability to multi-column reinforced ground. In the first conversion method, the soil permeability is matched according to an analytical equation, whereas in the second method, the column width is matched based on the equivalence of column area. The validity of these methods is tested by comparison with the numerical results of unit-cell simulations and with the field data from an embankment case history. The results show that for the case of linear-elastic material modelling, both methods produce reasonably accurate long-term consolidation settlements, whereas for the case of elasto-plastic material modelling, the second method is preferable as the first one gives erroneously lower long-term settlements, where plastic yielding of stone column are ignored.

  • For the reliability evaluation of the track drive unit(TDU), firstly, we analyzed the major failure modes through FMEA(failure mode & effects analysis), FTA(failure tree analysis), and 2-stage QFD(quality function deployment), and then quantitatively determined the priority order of test items. The Minitab analysis was also performed for prediction of life distribution and parameters of TDU by use of field failure data collected from 430 excavators for two years. In addition, we converted the fluctuation load in field conditions into the equivalent load, and for evaluation of the accelerated lift by the cumulative fatigues, the equivalent load is again divided into the fluctuation load by reference of test time. And then, by use of the test method in this paper, the acceleration factor(AF) of needle bearing inside planetary gear which is the most weakly designed part of TDU is achieved as 5.3. This paper presents the quantitative selection method of test items for reliability evaluation, the determination method of the accelerated life test time, and the method of non-failure test time based on a few of samples. And, we proved the propriety of the proposed methods by experiments using a TDU for a 30 ton excavator.

  • In this study, a series of dynamic centrifuge tests were performed for a soil-foundation-structural interaction system in dry sand with various embedded depths and superstructure conditions. Sinusoidal wave, sweep wave and real earthquake were used as input motion with various input acceleration and frequencies. Based on the results, a natural period and an earthquake load for soil-structure interaction system were evaluated by comparing the free-field and foundation accelerations. The natural period of free field is longer than that of the soil-foundation-structure system. In addition, it is confirmed that the earthquake load for soil-foundation-structure system is smaller than that of free-field in short period region. In contrast, the earthquake load for soil-foundation-structure interaction system is larger than that of free-field in long period region. Therefore, the current seismic design method, applying seismic loading of free-field to foundation, could overly underestimate seismic load and cause unsafe design for long period structures, such as high-rise buildings.

  • While analyzing traffic flow, speed, traffic volume, and density are important macroscopic indicators, and acceleration and spacing are the important microscopic indicators. The speed and traffic volume can be collected with the currently installed traffic information collection devices. However, acceleration and spacing data are necessary for safety and autonomous driving but cannot be collected using the current traffic information collection devices. 'You Look Only Once'(YOLO), an object recognition technique, has excellent accuracy and real-time performance and is used in various fields, including the transportation field. In this study, to measure acceleration and spacing using YOLO, we developed a model that measures acceleration and spacing through changes in vehicle speed at each interval and the differences in the travel time between vehicles by setting the measurement intervals closely. It was confirmed that the range of acceleration and spacing is different depending on the traffic characteristics of each point, and a comparative analysis was performed according to the reference distance and screen angle to secure the measurement rate. The measurement interval was 20m, and the closer the angle was to a right angle, the higher the measurement rate. These results will contribute to the analysis of safety by intersection and the domestic vehicle behavior model.

  • The finite element method (FEM) is suitable for the analysis of a complicated region that includes nonlinear materials, whereas the boundary element method (BEM) is naturally effective for analyzing a very large region with linear characteristics. Therefore, considering the advantages in both methods, a novel algorithm for the alternate application of the FEM and BEM to magnetic field problems with the open boundary is presented. This approach avoids the disadvantages of the typical numerical methods with the open boundary problem such as a great number of unknown values for the FEM and non-symmetric matrix for the Hybrid FE-BE method. The solution of the overall problems is obtained by iterative calculations accompanied with the new acceleration method.

  • Matrix multiplication is widely used in scientific and engineering field. Locality can improve the execution performance of matrix multiplication. A method for accelerating matrix multiplication is presented. This method uses both CPU and GPU computing power in PC. The presented method improved execution time about %15~30% than the method which uses only GPU.

  • Recently, it is reported that the behaviour of PECVD under high electric field and current condition has a major effect on MNS device degradation. In this paper, we evaluated the breakdown and TDDB characteristics of Laser assisted PECVD SiN films which is introduced new deposited method. And also, long term insulator breakdown reliability is described by examing time dependent dielectric breakdown under positive voltage. Failure tines against electric field are examined and acceleration factors are obtained for each case. From these data, breakdown wearout limitation for Laser Assisted PECVD SiN film can be characterized.
