The variations of the mold compression strength were studied by varing the contents of the silicon powder and water glass, silion purities, and molecule rates of the water glass, when domestic JA EUN DO sand is mixed with water glass (sodium silicate) and metallic silicon or ferro - silicon powder by the self - hardening N - PROCESS method. The results obtained from this experiment are as follows; 1) The compression strength of the mold used with metalic powder was higher and more stable than to be used ferro - silicon powder. 2) 6% water glass of 2.8 molecule rate and 1.5% of ferro - silicon of 75% purity for the N - PROCESS used with JA EUN DO sand was suitable mixing rate. 3) The compression strength increased with self - hardening time, and the PH values of the mixture of silicon powder and water glass did not change after 2 hours, but the compression strength increased steadily due to the reaction of remained silicon. 4) It is recommended to take 24 hours for self - hardening time at least.

In order to develop the ultra high strength concrete over 400Mpa at 28 day, Low-heat portland cement, ferro-silicon, silica-fume and steel fiber were mixed and tested under the special autoclave curing conditions. Considering the influence of Ultra high strength concrete. normal concrete is used as a comparison with low water-cement ratio possible Low-heat portland cement. Additionally, as a substitution of aggregates, we analyzed the compressive strength of Ferro Silicon by making the states of mixed and curing conditions differently. In addition, SEM films testified the development of C-S-H hydrates of Type III & Type IV, and tobermolite, zonolite due to the high temperature, high pressure of autoclave curing. Fineness of aggregate, filler and reactive materials in concrete caused 420Mpa compressive strength at 28day successfully.
The current understanding of the mechanism of inoculation of the eutectic in commercial Fe-C-Si alloys using either silicon containing alloys or graphite has been discussed. The mechanism whereby inclusion formation within a cast iron melt is essential for inoculation effectiveness in ferro silicon inoculation has been reviewed. The role of graphitic inoculants has been presented, including the results of recent research that confirms the inoculating capability of graphite and demonstrates those factors which must be considered in evaluating inoculation effectiveness. Fading of inoculation, both ferro silicon and graphite, and the mechanism whereby this occurs, has also been discussed.
In order to make high-purity ferro-manganese from $Mn_3O_4$ dust, the application of aluminothermy process to the reduction of $Mn_3O_4$ dust was investigated in previous work. The result showed the fact that can be obtained high purity ferro-manganese which have over about 93% of manganese content and lower impurities such as C, P, S than those of KS D3712 specification. The addition of silicon powder instead of aluminum powder was investigated as reductant in the thermite reaction process of $Mn_3O_4$ dust in this work because its production cost is lower than that of aluminum powder. In case of addition of silicon powder only as reductant, the experimental result showed the unstable ignition and no thermite reaction of mixture, but in case of simultaneous addition of silicon and aluminum powders as reductant, showed the fact that can be obtained high purity ferro-manganese which have much low content of impurities such as C, P, S component.
Decomposition behavior of $ferro-Si_3N_4$was investigated with varying temperature and holding time in mud components for high temperature refractory applications. Porosities gradually increased with increasing temperature and holding time due to the carbothermal reduction of $Si_3N_4\;and\;SiO_2$. Silicon monoxide (SiO) as a intermediate resulted from evaporation of $Si_3N_4\;and\;SiO_2$ reacted with C sources to generate needle-like ${\beta}-SiC$ and Fe in $Si_3N_4$ acted as a catalyst in order to enhance growth of SiC grain with the preferred orientation. SiC generation yield increased with increasing holding time, all of the $Si_3N_4\;and\;SiO_2$ affected on SiC formation up to 2h. However, SiC generation was only dependent on residual $SiO_2$ over 2h, because the carbothermal reduction reaction of $Si_3N_4$ was no longer possible at that time.

In this study, ordinary Portland cement was used and the air void was minimized by using minute quartz as the filler. In addition, steel fibers were used to mitigate the brittle failure problem associated with high strength concrete. This study is in progress to make an Ultra-high strength powdered concrete (UHSPC) which has compressive strength over 300 MPa. To increase the strength of concrete, we have compared and analyzed the compressive strengths of the concretes with different mix proportions and curing conditions by selecting quartz sand, dolomite, bauxite, ferro silicon which have diameters less than 0.6 mm and can increase the bond strength of the transition zone. Ultra-high strength powdered concrete, which is different from conventional concrete, is highly influenced by the materials in the mix. In the study, the highest compressive strength of the powdered concrete was obtained when it is prepared with ferro silicon, followed in order by Bauxite, Dolomite, and Quartz sand. The amount of ferro silicon, when the highest strength was obtained, was 110%, of the weight of the cement. SEM analysis of the UHSPC showed that significant formation of C-S-H and Tobermorite due to high temperature and pressure curing. Production of Ultrahigh strength powdered concrete which has 28-day compressive strength upto 341MPa has been successfully achieved by the following factors; steel fiber reinforcement, fine particled aggregates, and the filling powder to minimize the void space, and the reactive materials.

Ferro-Nickel slag is a byproduct of Ferro-Nickel manufacturing process. Ferro-Nickel slag mostly discarded or used as aggregates despite having useful ingredients such as magnesium oxide and silicon oxide. This study tried to extract process for Mg ion using $H_2SO_4$ solution. And remove impurities and get high purity $Mg(OH)_2$ using NaOH. Mg ion was extracted with the Fe ion and other Ferro-Nickel slag composition by $H_2SO_4$ solution. It is important to control the pH because remove impurities and obtain high-purity $Mg(OH)_2$. The impurities were removed by precipitation of the hydroxides. After this process, we added NaOH and high-purity $Mg(OH)_2$ was obtained.

Fe-Si-Cr ferroalloy is predominantly produced by carbothermic reduction. In this study, silicothermic and carbothermic mixed reduction of chromite ore to produce Fe-Si-Cr alloy is suggested. As reductants, silicon and silicon carbide are evaluated by thermochemical calculations, which prove that silicon carbide can be applied as a raw material. Considering the critical temperature of the change from the carbide to the metallic form of chromium, thereduction experiments were carried out. In these high temperature reactions, silicon and silicon carbide act as effective reductants to produce Fe-Si-Cr ferroalloy. However, at temperatures lower than the critical temperature, silicon carbide shows a slow reaction rate for reducing chromite ore. For the proper implementation of a commercial process that uses silicon carbide reductants, the operation temperature should be kept above the critical temperature. Using equilibrium calculations for chromite ore reduction with silicon and silicon carbide, the compositions of reacted metal and slag were successfully predicted. Therefore, the mass balance of the silicothermic and carbothermic mixed reduction of chromite ore can be proposed based on the calculations and the experimental results.

Electrostatic suspension offers an advantage of directly suspending various materials such as conductive materials, semiconductors and dielectric materials without any mechanical contacts. This is a specific feature compared with electromagnetic suspension which can suspend only ferro-magnetic material. In general, the electrostatic suspension systems require position sensors for stabilizing the suspended object. Therefore, a lot of displacement sensors and a switching circuit are required for moving the object through a long distance. In order to circumvent this problem, this paper proposes a self-sensing method which can provide the gap displacement between electrodes and suspended object without external sensors. Moreover a simple on-off controller is presented for stabilization. Experimental validation of the proposed scheme has been performed through the successful levitation of a 4-inch silicon wafer.
A new PIM in-process joining technique has been developed for more complicated and functional PIM components by application of the exuded wax from the green compacts during solvent debinding step. At first, various stainless steels and iron compacts with rectangular shape were combined, and the joining behaviors and properties were investigated by shear and tensile test, and microscopic observation. Subsequently, perfect joined three pieces of thin and hollow compacts were obtained for the combination of same and different stainless steels, and it was difficult to join the iron and stainless steel compacts in hydrogen atmosphere because of the different starting temperature of shrinkage. However, pretty good joined iron and stainless steel compacts were obtained by consideration of particle size and vacuum atmosphere. Finally, for the combination of ferro-silicon and austenitic stainless steel compacts, high functionality (magnetic (1.60Tes1a) & non-magnetic) and perfect joint were obtained.
