  • A conventional taped banknotes detecting device in the banknote counting machine have some problems caused by temperature, humidity, dust and other environmental conditions. In order to the improve the detection performance of taped banknote in the banknote counting machine, we developed taped banknotes detecting device that the ultrasonic wave sensor was replaced by mechanical method device. There are many factors for the performance of the taped banknote detecting device of a mechanical method, we considered three main factors that are the amplification ratio of the thickness of banknotes, the pressing force of banknotes and the feeding speed of banknotes. We carried out the experiments with the 27 kinds of combination of these three main factors. As the result, accurate detection was possible to the normal banknotes and taped banknotes regardless of the feeding rate in terms of the amplification rate 27 times and the pressing force 660gf.

  • In TIG welding of pipe, back bead size monitoring is important for weld quality assurance. Many researches have been performed on estimation of the back bead size by heat conduction analysis. However numerical conduction model based on many uncertain thermal parameters causes remarkable errors and thermomechanical phenomena in molten pool can not be considered. In this paper, filler wire feeding force in addition to weld current, wire feedrate, torch travel speed and orbital position angle is monitored to estimate back bead size in orbital TIG welding. Monitored welding process variables are fed into an artificial neural network estimator which has been trained with the monitored process variables (input patterns) and actual back bead size (output patterns). Experimental verification of the proposed estimation method was performed. The predicted results are in a good agreement with the actual back bead shape. The results are quite promising in that estimation of invisible back bead shape can be achieved by analyzing the welding parameters without any conventional NDT of welds.

  • An aquaculture system for feeding the caged fishes in the open water is suggested for ocean application. Survival and operation conditions are defined at the conceptual design. Wave and current drag forces are discussed to determine the proper dimension of the aquaculture system and the related mooring system. Second order wave drift force at the survival condition is the dominant force, which be reduced by minimizing the superstructure open to the surface. Automation in feeding, sorting, cleaning is introduced to use the ongoing technology for quality product. The suggested system has advantage compared to onshore culturing, but not to shallow water culturing system. There is room for real application in future by the countries, such as Korea and Japan, which are in short of fish supply and have willingness to venture towards the ocean aquaculture.

  • The chip control problem is one of the important subjects to be studied in the metal cutting process. Especially, an important practical problem concerns the form of chips pro- duced in machining since this has important implications relative to : 1. Personal safety. 2. Possible damage to equipment and product. 3. Handling and disposal of swarf after machining. 4. Cutting forces, temperatures, and tool life. However, a dependable way to predict the form of chips in a wide range of cutting conditions has not been established satisfactorily. In this paper, the relationship between the form of chips and the ratios of cutting forces were studied experimentally. According to what the experiments have been carried out in the turning process the main results can be summarized as follows : 1. By use of the multiple linear regression model, emperical formulas which are suitable to wide ranges of cutting conditions with accuracy were obtained satisfactorily. 2. The correlations between the form of chips based upon the classification by Henriksen and the ratios of cutting forces, namely (feeding force/thrust force), (principal force/feeding force) were determined. 3. Using above results, the algorithms which predict the form of chips were constituted. With these algorithms, the form of chips in a wide range of cutting of cutting conditions can be predicted.

  • In this study, a fmite element model was developed for analysis of feeding a structure in open loop control The finite element analysis (FEA) can simulate dynamic behavior of the structure of a machine tool rapidly traveling with a screw feeding driving system. The feeding mechanism was implemented with screw element of the FEA tool used in this study. The procedure was developed for the dynamic transient FEA. First, motion parameters such as jerk and velocity were introduced for the structure to be fed in open loop control When its traveling distance was determined, set-points for the distance were generated based on the motion parameters. The set-points were applied to the FE model constructed for the traveling structure. The FEA was executed and evaluated. In this study, the FEA procedure was applied to the column of a machine tool and the dynamic behavior of the column was evaluated. The FEA helps in evaluation of the motion characteristics of a structure. The convergence time of the structure vibration posterior to feeding termination can be estimated and the stiffness of the flexible structure is also evaluated against jerk, and acceleration. It provides the feeding force which is helpful in selection of the feeding motor.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of different feeding regimes on the quality of deer meat (venison) following storage at $4^{\circ}C$ for various durations. Twelve 5-year-old elk stags about 350 kg were stratified by weight and randomly assigned to one of four dietary treatments (three elk stags per treatment). The dietary treatments consisted of a feeding concentrate of 1.5% of body weight (T1), feeding concentrate of 1.8% of body weight (T2), feeding concentrate ad libitum (T3), or a home-mixed ration ad libitum (T4). The pH values of deer meat were not significantly different among treatment groups but were affected by duration of storage. Cooking loss increased under T4 treatment with increasing storage time at $4^{\circ}C$ (p<0.05). Increased storage time also resulted in significant decreases in shear force under T2 and T3 treatment compared to that under other dietary treatments (p<0.05). Lightness ($L^*$), redness ($a^*$), and yellowness ($b^*$) parameters were not significantly different among treatment groups, but lower values of $a^*$ and $b^*$ were observed under T1 and T4 treatment with increasing durations of storage (p<0.05). The chemical and fatty acid composition had no significantly different among treatments. Therefore, meat quality was most affected by increased storage time at $4^{\circ}C$. These results may serve as the basis for further study of deer meat (venison) from Korea.

  • It was found that the basic principle of continuous crystal growth method was following as; the powder supplied from the feeding system is molten in the graphite crucible under the ambient gas. After forming the molten zone in the lower part of the crucible, the seed crystal is deeped into the melt and pulled down with the rotation so that the melt crystallized from the seed. When the lowering rate, rotation rate, feeding rate and temperature are correct, the single crystal can grow. The critical melt level, the feeding rate, the growth rate, the change of the shape of molten zone by the graphite susceptor and crucible, the position of work coil, the balance between the gravitational force of melt and the centrifugal force originated from the rotation of seed which are the variables of the crystal growth and the sintering phenomenon of melt surface were researched.

  • In this paper, we have describes about the reationships between a core gap and a feeding velocity, an amplitude and the core gap by the exciting forc, the parts movement and a bowl materials, and the feeding veocity and the parts in the parts feeder. The main results as compared with the stainless and the aluminum materials are as follow : 1) The mean feeding velocity by bowl material shown more relative proportion in the STS304 to the exciting voltage than the C%AV 2) IN the exciting voltage, the response time for the aluminum material is slow, but the stainless is sensibility. 3) An exciting voltage is rised by an increase of the weight, but an amplitude has been in the range between 23 .mu.m through 40 .mu. m.

  • In this paper, a linear ultrasonic motor using piezoelectric ceramics was fabricated, and its operation characteristics were investigated. A linear ultrasonic motor using L$_1$-B$_4$model was composed of a stator and a rotor, and a stator was composed of piezoelectric ceramics and a elastic body. When applied frequency and voltage were 58.4kHz and 56V respectively, the feeding speed of the motor was 19.8 cm/s. A linear ultrasonic motor could be moved in left and right directions by the phase difference. Feeding speed and feeding force of a linear ultrasonic motor could be controlled by applied voltage. A linear ultrasonic motor had a droping torque-speed characteristic. The maximum efficiency of linear ultrasonic motor was 2.14%. Therefore, this linear ultrasonic motor can be expected to be used for a card-forwarding device, such as a card reader device and so on.
