Purposes : This study was conducted to examine nursing effects after using a new method of nasogastric tube feeding with recycled PETE bottle making use of gravity, and to compare with those of bolus method using syringe and pressure. Methods : The data collected from patients with nasogastric tube feeding more than a week at an internal medicine unit of C university hospital located in G-city from January 1st, 1998 through June 30th, 2000. For this nonequivalent control group posttest non-synchronized design, 28 patients were assigned to an experimental group and 35 patients to a control group. The homogeneity of two groups and the dependent variables were tested with use of $x^2-test$ and t-test. Results : The duration of hemostatic use was significantly shorter in the experimental group than control group(t=2.63, p=0.02). Also, the patients with PETE bottle feeding had a lower cost of material(t=3.51, p=0.01) and a lower rate of the time of direct nursing care(t=2.44, p=0.04) than those of control group. But, there was no significant difference between two groups in the length of hospital stay. Conclusion : This results indicates that nasogastric tube feeding with PETE bottle is superior to nasogastric tube feeding with syringe. This findings gave us an evidence to enhance nursing effectiveness in clinical setting.

At the time of host attachment, ticks are very sensitive to histamine, but during rapid blood sucking they paradoxically require histamine. Using a rabbit model, we studied the effects of histamine and antihistamine during attachment and fast-feeding in different life stages of Haemaphysalis longicorns. We examined how they responded to histamine and antihistamine by analyzing the detachment rate, histology of feeding lesions, and post-feeding behavior. A significant difference (P<0.01) was found in the detachment rate between experimental and control treatments throughout the observation period. Ticks exhibited a higher detachment rate (30.1%) at 12 h after histamine application during attachment time and on antihistamine-treated skin (25.4%) at 96 h during fast-feeding. After feeding on histamine-treated rabbits, the fully engorged body weights of larvae and nymphs were 0.7±0.36 mg and 3.5±0.65 mg, respectively. An average increase in body weight of 0.6±0.05 mg and 3.2±0.30 mg was observed for larvae and nymphs compared to the respective control weights. Nymphs and adults engorged after antihistamine treatment had an average body weight of 1.3±0.54 mg and 54±0.81 mg, respectively. An average decrease in body weight was observed in antihistamine-treated H. longicornis compared with control nymphs (3.3±0.42 mg) and adults (174±1.78 mg). Skin biopsies were collected after treatment, and differential histopathological characteristics were found between the treatment and control groups. Tick-infested skin collected from rabbits in the antihistamine-treated group lacked erythrocytes in the feeding pool, indicating that antihistamine impaired tick fast-feeding stage.

Large-type goats eating dry forage secreted large volumes of saliva which resulted in the loss of $NaHCO_3$ from the blood and decreased plasma volume (hypovolemia). This research investigated whether or not the loss of $NaHCO_3$ from the blood and hypovolemia brought about by dry forage feeding actually depresses feed intake in large-type goats under free drinking conditions. The present experiment consisted of three treatments (NI, ASI, MI). All treatments in this experiment were carried out under free drinking conditions. In the NI control (NI), a solution was not infused. In the ASI treatment, i.v. infusion of artificial saliva was initiated 2 h before feeding and was continued for a total of 3 h concluding 1 h after the commencement of the feeding perod. In the MI treatment, mannitol solution was infused to replenish only water lost from the blood in the form of saliva. The hematocrit and plasma total protein concentrations during feeding in the NI control were observed to be higher than pre-feeding levels. This indicated that dry forage feeding-induced hypovolemia was caused by the accelerated secretion of saliva during the initial stages of feeding in freely drinking large-type goats. Increases in hematocrit and plasma total protein concentrations due to dry forage feeding were significantly suppressed by the ASI treatment. While hematocrit during feeding in the MI treatment was significantly lower than the NI control, plasma total protein concentrations were not different. From these results, it is clear that the MI treatment was less effective than the ASI treatment in mitigating the decreases in plasma volume brought about by dry forage feeding. This indicates that plasma volume increased during dry forage feeding in the ASI treatment which inhibited production of angiotensin II in the blood. The ASI treatment lessened the levels of suppression on dry forage feeding, but the MI treatment had no effect on it under free drinking conditions. The results indicate that despite the free drinking conditions, increases in saliva secretion during the initial stages of dry forage feeding in large-type goats caused $NaHCO_3$ to be lost from the blood into the rumen which in turn caused a decrease in circulating plasma volume and resulted in activation of the renin-angiotensin system and thus feeding was suppressed.

One 30-day feeding trial was conducted to examine the effects of dietary salt on seawater adaptability of rainbow trout (Onchorhynchus mykiss) fed three experimental diets containing 0% (control), 4% and 8% salt. The experimetal period included 30 days of feeding trial in freshwater, 3 days of the step by step seawater acclimation with-out feeding diets, and 21 more days of seawater adaptation period (not with all experimental fish) with feeding the basal diet. Growth rates from triplicate groups were determined fur 30 days of feeding trial. Blood samples were taken at the begining and at the end of feeding trial, and 3 times (on 1st, 4th and 8th day) of the seawater adaptation period. Daily survival rates of duplicate groups from three experimetal treatments were recorded for 21 days of the seawater adaptation period. Total average initial and final fish weight were $149.5{\pm}7.6\;and\;187.1{\pm}7.6g$. Feed efficiency of fish fed diets containing 4% and 8% salt were significantly better than those of fish fed the control diet. Average cumulative survival rates were 72, 80 and 88% from the control, 4% and 8% salt diets, respectively. Pulse rate per minutes decreased with dietary salt level. Serum $Na^+\;and\;Cl^-$ concentrations of fish fed 4% and 8% salt diets were significantly higher than those of fish fed the control diet (P<0.05), however, the concentrations were stabilized after 8 days of seawater adaptation. Serum cortisol, glucose, cholesterol and tryglyceride concentrations, and the osmorality of fish decreased with dietary salt level, these values were significantly lower than those of fish fed the control diet. These results indicated that the dietary supplementation of salt could have advantages for seawater adaptability of rainbow trout.
We studied the effects of nonnutritive sucking(NNS) on lingual lipase activity and body weight under bottle feeding with 17 premature infants hospitalized. NNS was applied to nine infants and other eight infants comprised the control group. Pacifiers were applied to the experimental group for 5 minutes before and after bottle feeding. The treatment took approximately 20-25 minutes each time including bottle feeding time and was applied 7 times a day at intervals of 3 hours and for consecutive ten days. Lingual lipase activity and body weight were measured on the first, third, seventh and tenth day. Results and Conclusion : 1. Lingual lipase activity was low at 30 minutes after feeding and then began to increase reaching its highest level at 120 and 180 minutes after the feeding in both group. 2. Lingual lipase activity in the experimental group was not higher than that of the control group on the third, seventh and tenth day. 3. Body weight increased in experimental and control groups as days passed, while it was not significantly different between groups. These results lead to conclusion that among premature infants under bottle feeding, NNS is not effective in increasing the lingual lipase for fat digestion and NNS is not also effective for increasing body weight. The application of NNS to premature infants under bottle feeding needs considerable judgement for promoting well-being of nursing goals.
The purpose of this study is to discuss and analyze the effect of blood glucose on treadmill exercise, functional food and their combined treatment protocol on diabetic rats. These group were divided treadmill exercise group(n:12), functional food feeding group(n:12), treadmill exercise with functional food feeding group(n:12) and control group. The following results were obtained from this study. 1. The blood glucose level was showed significantly different in several group, treadmill exercise with functional food feeding group are most significantly on other group. 2. The inhibitory rate of body weight was not significantly different on each group. 3. The amount of feeding was not significantly in several group. 4. The Islets size and Connective tissue proliferation was showed significantly different except control group, treadmill exercise with functional food feeding group are more significantly than other group. These results show that treadmill exercise with functional food feeding and their several protocols can retard the setreptozotocin-induced dibetic rat.
In an optical disk drive, a feeding system which is used to move the optical pick-up system to the target position and the proper control scheme of it are important in random access performance. Since the effect of control is directly affected by the modeling precision of the real system, the precise modeling to the real system should be acquired. Although a simple linear order modeling to the feeding system of an optical disk drive is useful in understanding of the overall dynamic characteristics, the dynamic characteristics which are belongs to the nonlinear area cannot be predicted correctly. Furthermore, the feeding system of an optical disk drive has many nonlinear characteristics such as a nonlinear friction and backlash. For this reason, the understanding of the nonlinear properties in the feeding system is very important. In this paper, the nonlinear items of the feeding system, friction and backlash, are introduced and the effect of it are investigated. Finally, the mathematical model considering the nonlinear properties is compared to the real system, and some comments of it are given.
Objectives : This study was performed to investigate the effects of Pinelliae rhizoma on blood serum lipids and skeletal muscle fatty acid metabolism of obese Zucker rats. Methods : Experimental groups were divided into normal Zucker rats (lean control; non-treated), obese Zucker rats (fat control; non-treated) and Pinelliae rhizoma oral feeding obese Zucker rats (fat control; treated) for 6 separate experiments. Pinelliae rhizoma was investigated for effects on total body weight, serum glucose content, total cholesterol and triglyceride content, free fatty acid content, PPARalpha, CS and beta-HAD. Results : 1. Triglycerides in blood serum showed a greater decrease in the Pinellia rhizoma oral feeding group than the overweight control group. 2. PPARa showed a significant increase in the Pinelliae rhizoma oral feeding group over the overweight control group in skeletal muscles of SOL and EDL: as for protein FABPc, the Pinelliae rhizomaoral feeding group saw a greater significant increase than the overweight control group in the skeletal muscles of SOL. 3. CS activity showed a greater increase for the Pinelliae rhizoma oral feeding group than the overweight control group in EDL Conclusions : As the experiment's results show, Pinelliae rhizoma effectively decreased the weight and triglycerides of the obese mouse, and somewhat affects the fat oxidation in the skeletal muscles.
In this paper, the design and implementation of a multi-processor based die bonder machine for the semiconductor will be described. This is a final research results carried out for two years from June, 1986 to July, 1988. The mechanical system consists of three subsystems such as bonding head module, wafer feeding module, and lead frame feeding module. The overall control system consists of the following three subsystems each of which employs a 16 bit microprocessor MC 68000 : (i) supervisory control system, (ii) visual recognition / inspection system and (iii) the display system. Specifically, the supervisory control system supervises the whole sequence of die bonder machine, performs a self-diagnostics while it controls the bonding head module according to the prespecified bonding cycle. The vision system recognizes the die to inspect the die quality and deviation / orientation of a die with respect to a reference position, while it controls the wafer feeding module. Finally, the display system performs a character display, image display ans various error messages to communicate with operator. Lead frame feeding module is controlled by this subsystem. It is reported that the proposed control system were applied to an engineering sample and tested in real-time, and the results are sucessful as an engineering sample phase.
