  • This paper deals with the problem of motion planning for a unicycle-like robot. We present a simple local planner for unicycle model, based on an approximation of the desired configuration generated by local holonomic planner that ignores motion constraints. To guarantee a collision avoidance, we propose an inequality constraint, based on the motion analysis with the constant control input and time interval. Consequently, we formulate our problem as the constrained optimization problem and a feedback scheme based on local sensor information is established by simply solving this problem. Through simulations, we confirm the validity and effectiveness of our algorithm.

  • In this paper, a generalized adaptive law is proposed which uses a rational function type operator for parameter adjustment. To satisfy the passivity condition of the adaptation block, we introduce a constant feedback gain into the adaptation block. This adaptation scheme is applied to the model reference adaptive control of a continuous-time, linear time-invariant, minimum-phase system whose relative degree is 1. We prove the asymptotic stability of the output error of this adaptive system by hyperstability method. It is shown that by digital computer simulations this law can give a better output error transient response in some cases than the conventional gradient adaptive law. And the output error responses for the several types of the proposed adaptation law are examined in the presence of a kind of unmodeled dynamics.

  • In industrial multivariable plants, it is often the case that the plant outputs are detected not simultaneously but serially. In this paper, the problem of estimating the state vector of the plant based on the data obtained from such a detecting scheme is considered, and a special type of observer (referred to as a "serial-sampling' type observer) which renews its internal states whenever a new data is obtained is proposed. It is proved that such an observer can be constructed for almost every sampling period if the plant is observable as a continuous-time multivariable system, and that the poles of the closed-loop system using the serial-sampling type observer consist of the poles of the observer and those of the state feedback system. The behaviors of the observer and the closed-loop system are studied by simulation. The results of simulation indicate that a serial-sampling type observer can estimate the state of the plant more accurately than the ordinary type observers and improve the closed-loop performance.ance.

  • Burr sensing for burr size measurement and deburring process control is one of the essential elements in an automated deburring procedure. This paper presents the implementation of capacitance sensing and acoustic emission (AE) to deburring. The first application is the "on-line" measurement of burrs using a capacitance sensor. A non-contact capacitance gauging sensor is attached to an ultra precision milling machine which was used as a positioning system. The setup is used to measure burr profiles along machined workpiece edges. The proposed scheme is shown to be accurate, easy to setup, and with minor modifications, readily applicable to automatic deburring processes. As the second example, AE signals were sampled and analyzed for the sensor feedback of a precision deburring process - laser deburring -. The results, such as the sensitivity of AE signals to burr shapes and edge detection capability show a clear correlation between physical process parameters and the AE signals. A subsequent control strategy for deburring automation is also briefly discussed.

  • This paper is proposed to position and speed control of interior permanent magnet synchronous motor(IPMSM) drive without mechanical sensor. A gopinath observer is used for the mechanical state estimation of the motor. The observer was developed based on nonlinear model of IPMSM, that employs a d-q rotating reference frame attached to the rotor, A gopinath observer is implemented to compute the speed and position feedback signal. The validity of the proposed scheme is confirmed by various response characteristics.

  • This paper presents a PWM dc-ac converter regulation using a Single Input Fuzzy PI Controller (SIFPIC). The SIFPIC is derived from the signed distanced method, which is a simplification of a conventional fuzzy controller. The simplification results in a one-dimensional rule table, that allows its control surface to be approximated by a piecewise linear relationship. The controller multi-loop structure is comprised of an outer voltage and an inner current feedback loop. To verify the performance of the SIFPIC, a low power PWM dc-ac converter prototype is constructed and the proposed control algorithm is implemented. The experimental results show that the SIFPIC performance is comparable to a conventional Fuzzy PI controller, but with a much reduced computation time.

  • A new impedance controller is proposed for bilateral teleoperation under a time delay. The proposed controller does not need to measure or estimate the time delay in the communication channel using the force loop-back. In designing a stable impedance controller, absolute stability is used as a stability analysis tool, which results in a less conservative controller than the passivity concept. Moreover, in order to remove the conservatism associated with the assumption of infinite port impedances, the boundaries of human and environment impedance are set to finite values. Based on this, this paper proposes a parameter design procedure for stable impedance controllers. The validity of the proposed control scheme is demonstrated by experiments with a 1-dof master/slave system.

  • This paper proposes an adaptive video signal transmission scheme in order to ensure the QoS (Quality of Service) of user requirements. SVC (Scalable Video Coding) is an effective transmission scheme, because that can transmit video signal according to the video layer's weight. However, in previous works, those adaptive transmission systems which are considered about the various channel environments and user requirements have not been insufficiently studied. So, we propose the SVC signal transmission using inter-layer differential OVSF code allocation scheme in MC-CDMA. The proposed scheme is able to obtain each layer signal's protection order and control the sub-block of MC-CDMA by feedback information from receiver. Therefore, our proposed scheme is possible to provide the video quality for each users according to variable channel environments. The simulation results demonstrate the enhancement of proposed system in terms of BER performance.

  • In this paper, a modified microstep drive of PM step motor is presented. The open-loop drive of a step motor is attractive and widely accepted in applications of speed and position controls. However, the performance of the step motor is limited under the open-loop drive. The closed-loop control is advantages over the open-loop control not only in that step failure never occurs but that the motion is much quicker and smoother. However, a high resolution sensor is needed for detecting position and speed. The modified microstep drive is constructed as a microstep drive with speed feedback. The advantages of the proposed method is that the controller can be designed by a low resolution sensor and is simpler than other closed-loop controller. A concept of vector control is used for verifying the proposed scheme. Simulations show the performance of the proposed method and a comparison with a classic drive method.

  • In general, articulated robot control technology is limited to the design of robot arm control systems considering each joint of the robot joint as a simple servomechanism. This method describes the varying dynamics of a manipulator inadequately because it neglects the motion and configuration of the whole arm mechanism. The changes of the parameters in the controlled system are significant enough to render conventional feedback control strategies ineffective. This basic control system enables a manipulator to perform simple positioning tasks such as in the pock and place operation. However, joint controllers are severely limited in precise tracking of fast trajectories and sustaining desirable dynamic performance for variations of payload and parameter uncertainties. In many servo control applications the linear control scheme proposes unsatisfactory, therefore, a need for nonlinear techniques that increasing. for Forging process automation.
