  • This paper proposes a new test pattern generation methodology for combinational logic circuits using neural networks based on a modular structure. The CUT (Circuit Under Test) is described in our gate level hardware description language. By conferring neural database, the CUT is compiled to an ATPG (Automatic Test Pattern Generation) neural network. Each logic gate in CUT is represented as a discrete Hopfield network. Such a neual network is called a gate module in this paper. All the gate modules for a CUT form an ATPG neural network by connecting each module through message passing paths by which the states of modules are transferred to their adjacent modules. A fault is injected by setting the activation values of some neurons at given values and by invalidating connections between some gate modules. A test pattern for an injected fault is obtained when all gate modules in the ATPG neural network are stabilized through evolution and mutual interactions. The proposed methodology is efficient for test generation, known to be NP-complete, through its massive paralelism. Some results on combinational logic circuits confirm the feasibility of the proposed methodology.

  • MIL-STD-461E, EMI military standard for the equipment and subsystems, requires reception characteristic tests to verify the susceptibility of a receiver against the jntermodulation and spurious signals. Because the CS103 and CS104 of MIL-STD-461E show the test configuration of the equipment unit like a traditional receiver, it is possible to verify the susceptibility only for the reception signal through analog filters. However, at present when software programming techniques make a progress, the CS103 and CS104 tests need to evaluate the reception signal of the subsystem which includes both the digital filtering effects and analog filter characteristics. These test and evaluation techniques applied to a surveillance radar subsystem. This paper researched the EMI test methods in order to confirm feasibility of these test and evaluation techniques. Also the test results are compared and analyzed.

  • In this study, a simple post-reconstruction dual-energy computed tomography (CT) method is proposed. A dual-energy CT algorithm for monochromatic x-rays was adopted and applied to the dual-energy CT of polychromatic x-rays by assigning a representative mono-energy. The accuracy of algorithm implementation was tested with mathematical phantoms. To test the sensitivity of this algorithm to the inaccuracy of representative energy value in energy values, a simulation study was performed with mathematical phantom. To represent a polychromatic x-ray energy spectrum with a single-energy, mean energy and equivalent energy were used, and the results were compared. The feasibility of the proposed method was experimentally tested with two different micro-CTs and a test phantom made of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), water, and graphite. The dual-energy calculations were carried out with CT images of all possible energy pairs among 40, 50, 60, 70, and 80 kVp. The effective atomic number and the electron density values obtained from the proposed method were compared with theoretical values. The results showed that, except the errors in the effective atomic number of graphite, most of the errors were less than 10 % for both CT scanners, and for the combination of 60 kVp and 70 kVp, errors less than 6.0 % could be achieved with a Polaris 90 CT. The proposed method shows simplicity of calibration, demonstrating its practicality and feasibility for use with a general polychromatic CT.

  • This paper aims to verify the clinical feasibility of a custom-made film created by a laser cutting tool for End-to-End (E2E) quality assurance in robotic intensity modulated radiation therapy system. The custom-made film was fabricated from the Gafchromic EBT3 film with the size of $8^{{\prime}{\prime}}{\times}10^{{\prime}{\prime}}$ using a drawing that is identical to the shape and scale of the original E2E film. The drawing was created by using a computer aided design program with the image file, which is obtained by scanning original E2E film. Beam delivery and evaluations were respectively performed with the original film and the custom-made film using fixed-cone collimator on three tracking modes: 6D skull (6DS), Xsight spine (XS), and Xsight lung (XL). The differences between total targeting errors of the original and custom-made films were recorded as 0.17 mm, 0.3 mm, and 0.17 mm at 6DS, XS, and XL tracking modes, respectively. This indicates that the custom-made film could yield nearly equivalent results to those of the original E2E film, given the uncertainties caused by distortions during film scanning and vibrations associated with film cutting. By confirming the clinical feasibility of a custom-made film for E2E testing, it can be expected that economic efficiency of the testing will increase accordingly.

  • This study aims to analyze the accuracy for feasibility study of Network-RTK(VRS) surveying inside and outside of Korean CORS network. The southwest coast of Korea where some part of mainland and islands are outside of CORS network is chosen as the test area. To evaluate the accuracy of VRS surveying at surveying points, several Unified Control Points (UCPs) inside and outside of Korean CORS network were selected as the points in the test area. The feasibility of VRS surveying was analyzed by investigating the errors related to the location of points inside and outside of CORS network and the difference of 3-dimensional coordinates observed on different date. As the results of this study, the orthometric height errors of points outside of CORS network based on KNGeoid14 were improved about 5.0 cm in RMSE in comparison with KNGeoid13. The height errors of VRS surveying were considered to be less relevant to the results from PDOP and number of satellites (GPS and GLONASS). However, the orthometric errors caused by the geoidal height of KNGeoid and the ellipsoidal height of VRS surveying at points located outside of CORS network need to be addressed carefully for control surveying. When a point surveyed twice on different date, the difference of the ellipsoidal height of the point outside of CORS network was larger than that of the point inside of CORS network.

  • Vitrification technology has been gradually recognized as one of effective solidification methods for concentrated boric acid wastes generated in PWR. Vitrification for low- and intermediate-level radioactive wastes has a large volume reduction and good durability for the final products. A feasibility study for the vitrification of concentrated boric acid wastes has been performed with developing the pre-treatment methods of powdered wastes, glass compositions using glass formulation and demonstration test. The pre-treatment method is pelletizing the powder type for stable feeding within cold crucible melter. The glass compositions should be developed considering molten glass are related with wastes reduction. High contents of sodium and boron within borate wastes give influence to waste loading. A variety of factors obtained from the demonstration test are reviewed, which is wastes feeding rate, off-gas characteristics on stack and glass characteristics of final products such as durability for implementing the wastes disposal requirement. The aim of this paper is to present the feasibility of vitrification and review the solidification method for concentrated boric acid wastes and obtain the physicochemical characteristics of solidified glass.

  • In modal analysis, the mode shape reflects the vibration characteristics of the structure, and thus it is widely performed for finite element model updating and structural health monitoring. Generally, the acceleration-based mode shape is suitable to express the characteristics of structures for the translational vibration; however, it is difficult to represent the rotational mode at boundary conditions. A tilt sensor and gyroscope capable of measuring rotational mode are used to analyze the overall behavior of the structure, but extracting its mode shape is the major challenge under the small vibration always. Herein, we conducted a feasibility study on a multi-mode shape estimating approach utilizing a single physical quantity signal. The basic concept of the proposed method is to receive multi-metric dynamic responses from two sensors and obtain mode shapes through bridge loading test with relatively large deformation. In addition, the linear transformation matrix for estimating two mode shapes is derived, and the mode shape based on the gyro sensor data is obtained by acceleration response using ambient vibration. Because the structure's behavior with respect to translational and rotational mode can be confirmed, the proposed method can obtain the total response of the structure considering boundary conditions. To verify the feasibility of the proposed method, we pre-measured dynamic data acquired from five accelerometers and five gyro sensors in a lab-scale test considering bridge structures, and obtained a linear transformation matrix for estimating the multi-mode shapes. In addition, the mode shapes for two physical quantities could be extracted by using only the acceleration data. Finally, the mode shapes estimated by the proposed method were compared with the mode shapes obtained from the two sensors. This study confirmed the applicability of the multi-mode shape estimation approach for accurate damage assessment using multi-dimensional mode shapes of bridge structures, and can be used to evaluate the behavior of structures under ambient vibration.

  • PURPOSES: This study analyzes feasibility for application white pavement markings in the roadways with median barrier. METHODS : By reviewing numerous relevant laws, standards, and operational cases, the white pavement markings' excellence was demonstrated. Driver's behavior was analyzed through a virtual driving experiment using driving simulator and field tests. RESULTS:First, white pavement markings are superior to yellow pavement markings in terms of visibility, economics, and safety. Second, as a result of virtual driving experiment, the color of line in the roadway with median barrier didn't affect the driver's behavior such as the average vehicle speed, the distance bias in the lane and the separation distance from the centerline. Third, field test demonstrated that the driver tended to recognize the median barrier as an obstacle. In addition, the central driving ratio in the lane was increased due to improving the visibility of line at night in case of the white pavement markings. CONCLUSIONS : The application of white pavement markings in the roadways with median barrier can enhance traffic safety by improving the visibility of line at night.

  • This experimental study describes the noise reduction and the feasibility of short current of a silencer for a high voltage COS(cut out switch) fuse of a transformer. When a high voltage COS fuse becomes a short circuit by the over current, the strong impulse noise over 150 dB(A) is generated. For the purpose of the reduction of impulse noise, in this study, the diffuser type and the reactive type silencers have been designed and tested, respectively. And also the electrical test on the short current is performed. From the experimental results, the well designed reactive type silencer has been shown to have the noise reduction of about 20 dB(A). It has been found that the feasibility of short current for the COS fuse is closely related to the porosity of the silencer.

  • Objective: Bilateral movement training is an effective method for upper extremity rehabilitation of stroke. An approach to induce bilateral movement through functional electrical stimulation is attempted. The purpose of this study is to develop an EMG-triggered functional electrical stimulation device for upper extremity bilateral movement training in stroke patients and test its feasibility. Design: Feasibility and Pilot study design. Methods: We assessed muscle activation and kinematic data of the affected and unaffected upper extremities of a stroke patient during wrist flexion and extension with and without the device. Wireless EMG was used to evaluate muscle activity, and 12 3D infrared cameras were used to evaluate kinematic data. Results: We developed an EMG-triggered functional electrical stimulation device to enable bilateral arm training in stroke patients. A system for controlling functional electrical stimulation with signals received through a 2-channel EMG sensor was developed. The device consists of an EMG sensing unit, a functional electrical stimulation unit, and a control unit. There was asymmetry of movement between the two sides during wrist flexion and extension. With the device, the asymmetry was lowest at 60% of the threshold of the unaffected side. Conclusions: In this study, we developed an EMG-triggered FES device, and the pilot study result showed that the device reduces asymmetry.
