This study was conducted to find the faunal composition and distribution patterns of macrobenthos where the sand tidal flat around barrier island at Nakdong River estuary in May, 2016 and 2017. The number of species ranged from 31 to 39, and density was from 789 to 1,644 ind.m-2 during the study period in the three tidal flats. The number of species and density were the highest in the tidal flat of Shinja-do and Jinwoo-do, respectively. The dominant species were Gammaridae unid. in amphipods of crustacea, Scoletoma heteropoda, Scoloplos armiger, Heteromastus filiformis, Prionospio japonica in polychaeta and Batillaria cumingii, Laternula marilina in mollusks from the three tidal flats. The proportion of carnivores such as crustacea and mollusks was higher in the upper part of the tidal flat, and polychaetes of deposit feeders, dominated in the middle and lower tidal flat. Overall, the intertidal macrobenthic communities in the study area showed a high proportion of carnivores. However, the sites where the mud content is high such as muddy sand sites, they showed a higher proportion of surface deposit feeders belonging to tube-builders which contribute to sediment stability. From this study, it seemed that the macrobenthic fauna of the sandy tidal flat at the Nakdong River estuary showed a similar fauna composition and zonal distribution patterns from those in other sandy tidal flats in Korea.

This study was conducted to find out the seasonal distribution characteristics of meiobenthic communities to understand the benthic ecosystem of Gwangyang Bay, one of the representative bays in the southern coast of Korea. The faunal sampling was conducted eight times seasonally at 20 stations from 2010 to 2011. Among the meiobenthic fauna that appeared during the study period, the nematodes and harpacticoids were the most dominant. In the summer of 2011, the lowest density ($13ind.10m^{-2}$) was seen at station 10 on the inner part of the bay. In the winter of 2011, the highest density ($3,109ind.10m^{-2}$) was seen at station 4 on the inner part of the bay. Although the trend of seasonal changes in density was not clear, the meiobenthic community was seen to be affected more by the environmental factors in each season. Particularly, while the density of the harpacticoids, a dominant faunal group, showed negative correlations with the organic content and average particle size in the summer sediments (p<0.05, p<0.01), the density of the nematodes showed no significant correlation with the environmental factors except with the winter average particle size and the bottom layer's water temperature. The density change of meiobenthos showed irregular changes in Gwangyang Bay, instead of a general trend showing a low density in winter due to low water temperature but an increased density in spring and summer when the water temperature rises and a decreased one again in fall. Considering such a seasonal trend, it seems that the benthic ecosystem of Gwangyang Bay is affected more by artificial environmental factors than by natural environmental ones.
A semi-quantitative investigation on the subtidal macrobenthic community was carried out using dredge in Garolim Bay from February 1980 to June 1981.Of the 340 species of benthic fauna collected, the most dominant species with the numerical abundance of 12.3% was an ophiruroid,Ophiactis modesta which had a strong colony nature.Garolim Bay was also dominated by many suspension-feeders like Ophiactics modesta and Musculista senhousia. Due to hetergenorous sediments,Garolim Bay appeared to be rich and diverse in the faunal composition.Based on th topography of the bay and sediment types, the study area is easily divied into two zones;inner bay and outward bay area.
To study the faunal compositiion of spiders as natural enemies of the insect pests and their seasonal fluctuation in paddy fields of Taegu, the survey was carried out 12 times between June and September. 1971. 1. The spiders collected in paddy field of Taegu during the survey period were 45 species of 30 genera of 10 families. 2. In percentage composition the spiders of the genus Pirata were most abundant. Among the other genera, the species of the genus Neoscona, Lycosa, and Marpisa were more abundant in the above-written order. 3. Pirata subpiraticus, Neoscona doenitzi, Lycosa sp., Pardosa T-insignita and Marpisa magister were the 5 major species of abundant spiders. 4. Comparing the spider-fauna of the paddy field of Korea with that of Japan, Taiwan and Thailand, 2 species of 2 genera of the family Gnaphosidae were found in Korea only The abundant and common species It·ere deeply different each other. 5. Pirata subpiraticus, Lycosa sp. and Pardosa T-insignita appeared abundantly between June and July while Neoscona doenitzi and Marpisa magister were few in these periods. But no Pirata subpiraticus, Lycosa sp. and Pardosa T-insignita appeared in August while Neoscona doenitzi and Marpisa magister were abundant in this period. Then, in September as between June and July, Pirata subpiraticus, Lycosa sp. and Pardosa Tinsignita were abundant while Neoscona doenitzi and Marpisa magister decreased.
Twenty-nine species of asteroids are reported to be distributed in the East Sea of Korea. Five species are reported to be distributed in the East Sea of Korea. Five speices are reported for the first time in Korea ; Solaster endeca (Linn, 1771), Lethasterias fusca D'yakonov, 1931, Lethasterias nanimensis chelifera (verrill, 1914), Lysastrosoma anthostictha Fisher, 1992 and Evasterias troscheli alveolata Verrill, 1914. The faunal composition and distribution of the asteroids in the East Sea of Korea are discussed.
Tidal ranges of inner Saemangeum were largely reduced after the final dyke enclosure, resulting in the former tidal flats becoming either permanently exposed, still influenced by changing tide, or permanently submerged. The effect of reduced tidal range on survival and population stability of tidal flat macrofauna were investigated at three shifted habitats after the dyke completion. At the exposed area, several species survived for 80 days after the dyke enclosure. However, within 120 days, all macrofauna died off due to the elevated temperature during summer. At the intertidal area, some species were maintained until 170 days after the dyke enclosure with a large decrease of the faunal abundance. Species of the submerged area were seen to be more tolerant of the changed environments. The opportunistic species, such as Sinocorophium sinensis, Theora fragilis and Pseudopolydora Kempi, were massively introduced into the submerged area after the dyke enclosure, in which the benthic ecosystem was severely disturbed.
Meiobenthic community structure near Dokdo was investigated during two survey periods of June, 1999 and October 2000. Meiobenthos were separated from the sediment core samples collected from eight stations. A total of 19 meiobenthic animal groups were identified from those core samples. The most abundant meiobenthic animals belonged to Phylum Nematoda in both seasons and all stations. Sarcomastigophorans, nauplius of crustaceans, and benthic harpactiocoids were the next abundant meiobenthos. Vertical distribution of meiobenthic animals showed the highest individual numbers in the surface sediment layers of 0-1cm depth with a steep decreasing trend with depth for the three sampling stations (A0, A9', A19) located in the continental slope. Horizontal distribution of meiobenthic animals for the study area near Dokdo showed lower density at the sampling stations near Dokdo and the lowest density of meiobenthos in A19 (depth-2261 m). For size distribution, analysis showed that animals which fit onto the mesh size of 0.125mm were abundant. This study suggested that the continental shelf near Dokdo have a more unstable environment fo meiobenthos than the continental slope.

Global environmental changes have the capacity to make dramatic alterations to floral and faunal composition, and elucidation of the mechanism is important for predicting its outcomes. Studies on global climate change have traditionally focused on statistical summaries within relatively wide scales of spatial and temporal changes, and less attention has been paid to variability in microclimates across spatial and temporal scales. Microclimate is a suite of climatic conditions measured in local areas near the earth's surface. Environmental variables in microclimatic scale can be critical for the ecology of organisms inhabiting there. Here we examine the effect of spatial and temporal changes in microclimates on those of carabid beetle communities in Hyangnobong, Korea. We found that climatic variables and the patterns of annual changes in carabid beetle communities differed among sites even within the single mountain system. Our results indicate the importance of temporal survey of communities at local scales, which is expected to reveal an additional fraction of variation in communities and underlying processes that has been overlooked in studies of global community patterns and changes.
In a faunal survey of the Gelechiidae (Lepidoptera: Gelechioidea) from Is. Ulleung-do in the East Sea of Republic of Korea, one species of Gelechiidae, Bagdadia gnomia Ponomaranko, is reported for the first time from Korea and an unknown species of the genus Bryotropa was discovered. In addition, eight species of Gelechiidae including a little known species, Dichomeris anisacuminata Li & Zheng, were first recorded from Is. Ulleung-do. Images of adults and genitalia for the newly recorded species and a little known species are provided.
Recently lots of the Early Cambrian fauna were described from the Yunnan Province of China. The fauna occurs from the Maotiangshan shale that dated between 525 and 520 ma, which is about 10-20 million years earlier than the Burgess Shale fauna of Canadian Rocky Mountain and Sirius Passet fauna in North Greenland. The Chengjiang fauna comprises an extremely diverse faunal assembly, and soft body parts of the fauna are well preserved. Such condition probably resulted from repeated rapid burial environment that prevented the bodies from destruction by currents, bioturbation, and biolchemical activities.
