  • In these days, the interruption capability of some circuit breakers, which are installed in the transmission systems, is getting lower than the magnitude of the fault current because of continuous increase of power demand and relatively short power line which was installed in forms of mesh network As a result of these situations, fault current limiters (FCLs) are strongly necessary. There are various types which is investigated around the world, and new power apparatuses that have been newly considered and developed by many manufactures. In this paper, we considered resistive superconducting fault current limiters with YBCO thin films. The resistive limiters utilize a transition of YBCO films from superconducting to normal state caused by exceeding the critical current. By means of newly occurred impedance, the fault current will be limited effectively. Generally, a few current path patterns are available for YBCO films to enhance the current limiting performance of YBCO films. In this paper. the meander-type and the bi-spiral-type were used for current paths of YBCO flims. When YBCO films are quenched into the normal state, bubbles could be observed on the surface of YBCO films. Using our high-speed camera, the number of bubbles and the size of bubbles could be visualized and the relation between bubbles and current density was analyzed. By means of moving pictures of bubbles, we observed how the quench extended or how the heat was conducted in films.

  • As the density of memories increases, unwanted interference between cells and coupling noise between bit-lines are increased and testing high density memories for a high degree of fault coverage can require either a relatively large number of test vectors or a significant amount of additional test circuitry. From now on, conventional test algorithms have focused on faults between neighborhood cells, not neighborhood bit-lines. In this paper, a new algorithm for NPSFs, and neighborhood bit-line sensitive faults (NBLSFs) based on the NPSFs are proposed. Instead of the conventional five-cell and nine-cell physical neighborhood layouts to test memory cells, a three-cell layout which is minimum size for NBLSFs detection is used. To consider faults by maximum coupling noise by neighborhood bit-lines, we added refresh operation after write operation in the test procedure(i.e., write \longrightarrow refresh \longrightarrow read). Also, we present properties of the algorithm, such as its capability to detect stuck-at faults, transition faults, conventional pattern sensitive faults, and neighborhood bit-line sensitive faults.

  • To reduce a high fault current, neutral ground reactors (NGR) were installed in the Korean substation. Current with several harmonic components flows in a NGR due to load unbalance in normal steady state and magnetic fields with several harmonic components are also generated around a NGR. As results of study, we found magnetic fields around a NGR in Korean substation included two harmonics, 180Hz and 540Hz. Magnetic fields of 180 Hz increased 3 times more current density inside a worker near a NGR than same magnitude magnetic fields of 60 Hz. We know a worker near a NGR may not meet ICNIRP guideline of 10(mA/$m^2$) due to several harmonic components.

  • This paper focuses on understanding the interrupting capability of an arc contact system in a molded case circuit breaker (hereafter MCCB). We selected four types of MCCBs and analyzed the magnetic flux density distributions in the contact systems caused by the fault currents. We ascertained that the magnetic flux density profile varies according to the shape of the contact system and was asymmetric at both the ends of an arc, perpendicular to the arc column because of the magnetic grid installed in the contact system. The asymmetric difference creates a magnetic force that pushes the arc current outwards and provides an interrupting capability. We have introduced a simple analysis method for determining the interrupting capability of the contact system for an MCCB by the arc-driving magnetic flux density.

  • As the integration density and the operating speed of System on Chips (SoCs) become increasingly high, it is crucial to test delay defects on the SoCs. This paper introduces an enhanced IEEE 1500 wrapper cell architecture and IEEE 1149.1 TAP controller for the wrapper interface logic, and proposes a transition delay fault test method. The method proposed can detect slow-to-rise and slow-to-fall faults sequentially with low area overhead and short test time. and simultaneously test IEEE 1500 wrapped cores operating at different core clocks.

  • Rollers in the continuous process systems are ones of key components that determine the quality of web products. The condition of rollers (e.g. eccentricity, runout) should be consistently monitored in order to maintain the process conditions (e.g. tension, edge position) within a required specification. In this paper, a new diagnosis algorithm is suggested to detect the defective rollers based on the frequency analysis of web tension signals. The kernel of this technique is to use the characteristic features (RMS, Peak value, Power spectral density) of tension signals which allow the identification of the faulty rollers and the diagnosis of the degree of fault in the rollers. The characteristic features could be used to train an artificial neural network which could classify roller conditions into three groups (normal, warning, and faulty conditions) The simulation and experimental results showed that the suggested diagnosis algorithm can be successfully used to identify the defective rollers as well as to diagnose the degree of the defect of those rollers.

  • We have analyzed operating characteristics of transformer-type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) according to the serial or parallel connections of secondary coils with $YBa_2Cu_3O_7$ (YBCO) thin films. The turn ratio between the primary and secondary coils was 63:21. Transformer-type SFCL using a transformer with secondary winding of serial or parallel coils could reduce the unbalanced quench caused by differences of the critical current density between YBCO thin films. We found that transformer-type SFCL having serial or parallel connections induced simultaneous quench between the superconducting units. The limiting current in the transformer-type SFCL with a parallel connection was lowered to 30 % compared to the SFCL with a serial connection. In the meantime, when the currents generated in the superconducting units were similar, the voltage value in the parallel connection was 60 % as low as that in the serial connection. However, the voltage generated in the primary winding was some higher. In conclusion, we found that transformer-type SFCL with parallel connection of secondary coils was more effective in fault current limiting characteristics and in the reduction of the consumption power for superconducting units compared to those of the transformer-type SFCL with serial connection of secondary coils.

  • The YBCO coated conductor is an important element that forms the superconducting power equipment. The first advantage of applying YBCO coated conductor to superconducting power equipment is that it can effectively addresses the normal and fault currents using less quantity of wire than when using Bi tape due to its high critical current density. Second, it can limit the fault current fast because its index value is high. so that the resistance can be produced fast when it is applied to the superconducting current limiting element. Third, the type of stabilization layer that surrounds the YBCO superconductor is selectable and the magnitude of the resistance that is produced from quenching can be adjusted. This study researched into the manufacture of current-limiting element of using YBCO coated conductor, into the characteristics of current limiter that considered by combining the manufactured element with the resistive-type superconducting fault current limiter.

  • Geological, structural, and fracture density maps were drawn up to clarify the groundwater flow system around the Geumjeong Mountain, Busan. The results show that the topographical basin formed in the Sanseong Town is considered as a major recharge area of groundwater around the Geumjeong Mt. Because NS-trending fault and ENE-trending fault are intersecting and NS-trending and EW-trending fracture sets are highly developed in the basin, it is believed that the geological structure was developed in the basin which facilitates ground recharge. Based on the density distributions and characteristics of fractures, it is possible that the recharged groundwater in the basin would circulate to the depth of about 3~4 km and finally would reach the Dongnae Hot-spring region.

  • In this paper, the power-linking device connecting the high-Tc super-conducting(HTS) coil to the power system in the DC reactor type three-phase high-Tc superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) has been designed. This design was triggered from the concept that the magnetic energy could be exchanged into the electrical energy each other. Ferromagnetic material is used as the path of magnetic flux. The device mentioned above was named Magnetic Core Reactor(MCR). MCR was designed to minimize the voltage drop caused by copper loss. The current density of the conductor was 1.3 A/mm$^2$ and % voltage drop was 2%.
