  • The conventional technique to deal with CT saturation is overdimensioning of the core so that CTs can carry up to 20 times the rated current without exceeding 10% ratio correction. However, this not only reduces the sensitivity of relays, but also increases the CT core size in proportion to the expected maximum fault current to avoid CT saturation. This paper presents a technique of estimating the secondary current corresponding to the CT ratio which can reduce the required CT core cross section significantly.

  • This paper presents a design of a multi-sensor data fusion filter for a Flight Test System. The multi-sensor data consist of positional information of the target from radars and a telemetry system. The data fusion filter has a structure of a federated Kalman filter and is based on the Singer dynamic target model. It consists of dedicated local filter for each sensor, generally operating in parallel, plus a master fusion filter. A fault detection and correction algorithms are included in the local filter for treating bad measurements and sensor faults. The data fusion is carried out in the fusion filter by using maximum likelihood estimation algorithm. The performance of the designed fusion filter is verified by using both simulation data and real data.

  • Seismic refracrion and reflection surveys were conducted along an E-W trending track of 482 m long in Ilwall-dong, Pohang. End-on spread was employed as source-receiver configuration with 2 m for both geophone interval and offset. Seismic data were acquired using 24 channels at every shot fired every 2 m along the track. Refraction data were interpreted using equations for multi-horizontal layers. Reflection data were processed in the sequence of trace edit, gain control, CMP sorting, NMO correction, mute, common offset gathering, and filtering to produce a single fold seismic section. There are two layers in shallow subsurface of the study area. Upper layer has the P-wave velocities ranging from 267 to 566 m/s and is interpreted as a layer of unconsolidated sediments. Lower layer has P-wave velocities of 1096-3108 m/s and is interpreted as weathered rock to hard rock. Most of the lower layer classified as soft rock. Upper layer has lateral variations in both P-wave velocity and thickness. The upper layer in the eastern part of the seismic line is 3-5 m thick and has P-wave velocity of 400 m/s in average. The upper layer in the western part is 8-10 m thick and has P-wave velocity of 340 m/s in average. The eastern part is interpreted as unconsolidated beach sand, while the western part is interpreted as infilled soil to develop a construction site. Three fault systems of high angle are imaged in seismic reflection section. It is interpreted that the area between these fault systems are relatively safe. Large buildings should be located in the safe ground condition of no fault and footings should be designed to be in the basement rock of 3-10 m deep below the surface.

  • The software defects that are not found in the course of a project frequently appear during the conduct of the maintenance procedure after the complete development of the software. As the frequency of surfacing of defects during the maintenance procedure increases, the cost likewise increases, and the quality and customer reliability decreases. The defect rate will go down only if cause analysis and process improvement are constantly performed. This study embodies the defect tracking system (DTS) by considering the Pareto principle: that most defects are repetitions of defects that have previously occurred. Based on the records of previously occurring defects found during the conduct of a maintenance procedure, DTS tracks the causes of the software defects and provides the developer, operator, and maintenance engineer with the basic data for the improvement of the software concerned so that the defect will no longer be manifested or repeated. The basic function of DTS is to analyze the defect type, provide the measurement index for it, and aggregate the program defect type. Doing these will pave the way for the full correction of all the defects of a software as it will enable the defect correction team to check the measured defect type. When DTS was applied in the software configuration management system of the W company, around 65% of all its software defects were corrected.

  • Network RTK is a precise positioning technique using carrier phase correction data from reference stations within the network, and is constantly being researched for improved performance. However, the study for the system accuracy has been performed but system integrity research has not been done as much as system accuracy, because network RTK has been mainly used on surveying for static or kinematic positioning. In this paper, adequate monitoring system for network RTK is designed as basis research for integrity monitoring on network RTK. To this, fault tree on network RTK is analyzed, and a countermeasure is prepared to detect and identify the each fault items. Based these algorithms, monitoring system to use on central processing facility is designed for network RTK service.

  • This paper presents a multi-sensor data simulator and a data fusion algorithm for tracking high dynamic flight target from Radar and Telemetry System. The designed simulator generates time-asynchronous multiple sensor data with different data rates and communication delays. Measurement noises are incorporated by using realistic sensor models. The proposed fusion algorithm is designed by a 21st order distributed Kalman Filter which is based on the PVA model with sensor bias states. A fault detection and correction logics are included in the algorithm for bad data and sensor faults. The designed algorithm is verified by using both simulation data and actual real data.

  • The redundant operation of a parallel AC to DC converter via a serial communication bus is presented. The proposed system consists of three isolated CUK power factor correction modules. The controller for each converter is a dsPIC30F6010 microcontroller while a RS485 communication bus and the clock signal are used for synchronizing the data communication. The control strategy of the redundant operation relies on the communication of information among each of the modules, which communicate via a RS485 serial bus. This information is received from the communication checks of the converter module connected to the system to share the load current. Performance evaluations were conducted through experimentation on a three-module parallel-connected prototype, with a 578W load and a -48V dc output voltage. The proposed system has achieved the following: the current sharing is quite good, both the transient response and the steady state. The converter modules can perform the current sharing immediately, when a fault is found in another converter module. In addition, the transient response occurs in the system, and the output voltages are at their minimum overshoot and undershoot. Finally, the proposed system has a relatively simple implementation for the redundant operation.

  • A study of anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS) was conducted on the Ordovician-Eocene strata in the Taebaek area. The study area is a northeastern part of the Okchon belt, sometimes called as Paegunsan Synclinal Area. A total of 600 independently oriented samples were collected from 60 sites covering the whole area. With a few exception of late Cretaceous-Eocene volcanic rocks, all the sampled strata are nonmetamorphosed sedimentary rocks, mainly sandstones. Among the 60 sites, 5 sites showed flow lineation lying on the bedding plane, 11 sites showed load foliation parallel to the bedding plane, and 21 sites showed tectonic foliation unrelated to the bedding plane. The tectonic foliations are defined by $k_1-k_2$ ($k_{max}-k_{int}$) anisotropy plane, and are considered as a result of tectonic forces acted perpendicularly to the foliation plane in the geologic past. Regardless of sample-site locations, tectonic force directions defined by $k_3$ ($k_{min}$) axis perpendicular to the tectonic foliation are consistent among the strata of the same geologic age. In the course of geologic time, however, the tectonic force directions showed a clockwise rotation: approximately E-W in the Ordovician sites, NW-SE in the Permian sites, N-S in the Triassic sites, and lastly NE-SW in the late Cretaceous-Eocene sites. The pre-Permian directions showed better clustering in the in-situ (geographic) coordinates, while the younger directions become better clustered after the bedding-tilt correction. It is interpreted that the major tectonic structures of the Taebaek area were controlled by the above-mentioned tectonic forces: The Paegunsan Syncline and the Hambaeksan Fault must have been generated by the NW-SE force of late Permian-early Triassic time. It was then reactivated in the reverse (dextral) sense by the N-S force of Triassic time. The Osipchon Fault in the eastern part of the study area was either generated or reactivated by the NE-SW force of late Cretaceous-Eocene time. The Permo-Triassic NW-SE force should be an expression of the Songnim Disturbance in the Korean peninsula, which is in turn related with the SCB/NCB collision in China.

  • The success of a software development project can be determined by the use of QCD. And as a software's size and complexity increase, the importance of early quality assurance rises. Therefore, more effort should be given to prevention, as opposed to correction. In order to provide a framework for the prevention of defects, defect detection activities such as peer review and testing, along with analysis of previous defects, is required. This entails a systematization and use of quality data from previous development efforts. FMEA, which is utilized for system safety assurance, can be applied as a means of software defect prevention. SW-FMEA (Software Failure Mode Effect Analysis) attempts to prevent defects by predicting likely defects. Presently, it has been applied to requirement analysis and design. SW-FMEA utilizes measured data from development activities, and can be used for defect prevention on both the development and management sides, for example, in planning, analysis, design, peer reviews, testing, risk management, and so forth. This research discusses about related methodology and proposes defect prevention model based on SW-FMEA. Proposed model is extended SW-FMEA that focuses on system analysis and design. The model not only supports verification and validation effectively, but is useful for reducing defect detection.
