  • This study had a focus on investigating technical validity of Two-Lift Concrete Pavements which had never been constructed in Korea in order to olve the problem of existing concrete pavements. This study found out the application of Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete (SFRC) which was one of ew techniques. Also, optimal steel fiber contents and pavement thickness were determined. This study also measured compressive strengths, lexural strengths, toughness indexes, tensile strengths and fatigue strengths to estimate the performance of SFRC of according to results of aboratory experiments, slumps and air contents of concrete specimens the standards satisfied and compressive strengths to open traffic. At bending ests, Toughness Index of SFRC increased but flexural strength didn’'t increase as compared with non-steel fiber concretes. And, energy absorption of SFRC was very good and SFRC showed improvement in freezing and thawing resistances. To complete this research, we will evaluate the pplication methods and performance of SFRC at field section.

  • As composite materials, the addition of steel fiber with concrete significant)y improves the engineering properties of structural members, notably shear strength and ductility. Flexural strength, fatigue strength, and the capacity to resist cracking are also enhanced. Especially the strengthening effect of steel fiber in shear is to prevent the brittle shear failure. In this study, shear-strengthening effect of steel fiber in RC short columns were investigated from the literature surveys and 10th specimem's member test results. From the test results, following conclusions can be made; the maximum enhancement of shear-strengthening effect can be achieved at about 1.5 % of steel fiber contents, shear strength and ductility capacity were improved remarkably in comparison to stiffness and energy dissipation capacity in steel fiber reinforced concrete.

  • This study predicts the structural behavior of RC beams using high strength shear reinforcement and evaluates current design codes restricting the strength of shear reinforcement steel. Under the present design codes, the yield strength of shear reinforcement steel is restricted to 400MPa. In case that use high yield strength reinforcement steel, could incure heavily crack and deflection at the members of structure, and have not verified ductility capacity, fatigue resisting capacity, shear and torsion resisting capacity, anchoring capacity and seismic capacity. To this end, we evaluate structural behavior of reinforced concrete beams using high strength shear reinforcement.

  • In this study the reason which researches the feature of the exposure type waterproofing it uses the technique of the soft FRP it uses the soft unsaturated polyester and the square groove cutting technique with respects and solves the interface separate problem because of the rigid FRP it is used with the repairs and retrofit materials it is caused by in adhesion of concrete insufficiency. The feature of this technique was the dispersion and the reinforcement of the fatigue stress due to the integration behavior and the reinforcement due to the glass-fibre of the concrete due to the soft FRP resin and, it investigated the crack appearance confrontation of concrete and the cohesion stability of the concrete due to the square groove cutting technique with importance. The result of research when it applies the soft FRP with the exposure type waterproofing, is judged with the fact that it will be able to expect a bulge resistance confrontation and creak confrontation ability and cohesion stability improvement.

  • With the continuous industrial development, not only natural resource depletion, waste generation, but also various weather conditions are becoming more frequent. Efforts are continuing to recycle industrial by-products to overcome the climate crisis and save resources. Slag is a representative by-product generated in the steel industry, and it is characterized by improving rutting resistance and moisture sensitivity by increasing strength and reducing deformation when used as a material for asphalt concrete. On the other hand, slag has expansion properties so it is used as a relatively low-value-added material such as embankment and refilling materials. In order to expand the application of slag, an experiment was conducted to evaluate the crack resistance of slag asphalt concrete pavement. As a result of the indirect tensile strength test, it was found that the asphalt mixture using slag aggregate showed a value 1.13 times higher than that of the general HMA with the same particle size, and the toughness was 1.17 units, improving crack resistance. In addition, it was found that the failure number of the 4-point beam fatigue experiment and the slag asphalt mixture was 20,409, which was more than doubled compared to the general HMA. Furthermore, Overlay Test showed a tensile load residual rate of 4 times or more, improving crack resistance to repeated fatigue. Accordingly, the use of slag aggregate will likely have various advantages in improving the performance of asphalt concrete pavement.

  • The use of a concrete track is gradually growing in urban and high-speed railways in many part of the world. The resilient pad, which is essentially when concrete tracks are used, plays the important role of relieving the impact caused by train loads. The simple fatigue test[1] to estimate the variable stiffness of resilient pads is usually performed, but it differs depending on the practical conditions of different railways. In this study, the static stiffness levels of used resilient pads according to passing tonnages levels were measured in laboratory tests. Also, the simple fatigue test and the multi-stress accelerated degradation test for new resilient pads were performed in a laboratory. The static stiffness of the used pad was compared with the results of tests of usage times and cycles. The results of the comparison showed that the variable static stiffness levels of the used pad were similar to results of the multi-stress accelerated degradation test considering the fatigue and heat load. With a T-NT equation related to the degree of the multi-stress accelerated degradation, a model of multi-stress accelerated degradation for a resilient pad was devised. It was found through this effort that the total acceleration factor was approximately 2.62. Finally, this study proposes an equation for a multi-stress accelerated degradation model for polyurethane resilient pads.

  • If LNG is leaked from 9% Ni steel inner tank by damage, LNG is retained by outer concrete tank. Then large tensile stress can be caused at cylindrical bottom of outer tank by temperature difference between outer and inner surface of outer tank. Therefore, in order to reduce the tensile stress is caused by temperature difference, corner-protection is installed with insulation and 9% Ni steel as a second barrier. In this paper, using finite element method, structural analysis was performed for rectangular and circular shape of knuckle and based on the results, fatigue life of welds of corner protection was predicted. As a consequence of structural analysis, safety factor of circular knuckle shows 33% bigger than rectangular one shows, and circular knuckle has 25% bigger fatigue life time than rectangle has. These results can be applied to life time assessment and design optimization in the future.

  • Design methods for new flexible pavements and overlays are in the transition from empirical to mechanistic approach, and many state highway agencies trend to move toward the adoption and use of mechanistic-empirical (M-E) design in new constructions and rehabilitations of flexible pavements. Hence, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) decided to develop a M-E flexible pavement design procedure, in which major pavement distresses such as fatigue cracking and rutting are employed as indicators of the serviceability of a flexible pavement. The main concept of the developed design procedure is that a designed pavement that is supposed to carry a certain number of traffic must satisfy designated thresholds of rut depths and fatigue lives during a service period. For the M-E design procedure, transfer functions were developed to predict rut-depths and fatigue lives. These functions related the pavement responses to pavement performance. For validation, three current new flexible pavement design cases were obtained from the MDOT. In these cases, asphalt concrete (AC) layer thicknesses determined by the suggested M-E procedure compare favorably with those determined by the current MDOT design practice that is based on AASHTO design guide. This finding implies that the suggested Michigan M-E flexible pavement design procedure can provide a good opportunity to improve the current design practice.

  • The Permanent Way consisting of rails and sleeper laid on ballast is a technically and economically viable solution. After two decades of targeted research and development activities Slab Track turned out to be a reasonable option on special fields. Slab Track proves that especially under extreme condition and loads - they reliably help stability and a long service life of track. Technical and experimental solution of slab track are particularly underlined. This paper presents a few Results of the experiments of SFRC slab tracks under fatigue load.
