하지석고붕대 적용에 의한 활동저하가 석고붕대 적용하지와 비적용하지의 둘레, 피부두겹두께 및 근력에 미치는 효과 (A Study of the Effects of Casting on Lower Limbs -Comparison of Casted and Noncasted Limb-)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the circumference, skinfold thickness and strength of the normal and casted lower limb prior to casting and following removal of the cast. The subjects for the study were nine orthopedic patients who had had long and short leg casts due to a tibial, fibula, or calcaneus fracture, or to a lateral collateral ligament rupture. Circumference, skinfold thickness, and strength of the normal and casted lower limb following removal of the cast were compared with those prior to the application of the cast. Measurements were made before cast application and after removal of the cast. Skinfold thickness was measured by fat caliper, circumference was measured by tape and strength was determined by measuring the length of time the leg was held elevated at 45$^{\circ}$. The results can be summarized as follows 1. There was no change in the normal limb in the circumference of the midthigh and midcalf after casting as compared to before cast application. 2. In the casted limb the circumference of the midthigh decreased by 3.23% and that of the midcalf decreased significantly by 7.49% during the period of casting. 3. In the normal limb skinfold thickness of the quadriceps decreased and that of gastrocnemius increased by 20.63% during the period of cast application. 4. In the casted limb skinfold thickness of the quadriceps decreased significantly by 12.37% and that of gastrocnemius decreased by 10% during the period of cast application. 5. Strength of the normal lower extremity decreased significantly by 48.37% and that of casted lower extremity decreased remarkably by 73.07% during the period of cast application. 6. Circumference of the midthigh and the midcalf decreased significantly by 7.6% and 9.4% respectively on the casted side as compared to the normal side. Skinfold thickness of the quadriceps and the gastrocnemius on the casted side decreased by 6.12% and 18.55% respectively as compared to the normal side and strength in the lower extremity on the casted side decreased significantly by 44.32% as compared to the nor-mal side. From these results, it may be concluded that muscle atrophy occurs in the casted lower limb and muscle strength of the normal lower limb are also reduced during the period of application of a leg cast.

입원한 암환자의 영양상태 조사 연구 (Nutritional Status of Cancer Patients upon Admission)

  • The purpose of this study was to assess the nutritional status of cancer patients and non-cancer patients who were admitted to an internal medical department and to determine the degree of malnutrition among these patients. The study was performed from May to July l996 with 151 subjects recruited from the general medical department at D University Hospital. For nutritional assessment the anthropometric and biochemical assessment were performed. Biochemical measurements included serum hemoglobin, albumin, and lymphocytes. For anthropometric assessment, patient's body weight, skinfold thickness in four areas, body mass index, and percent of body fat were measured. The results were as follows : 1) Of the 151 patients who were studied, 47 patients had cancer while 104 patients had non cancer related disease. The mean age of the cancer patients was 57 and 52 for non cancer patients. The percentage of patients who had lost body weight during the last 6 months was 29.8% in cancer patients and 15.4% in non cancer patients. This percentage difference between the 2 groups was statistically significant. However, there was no statistical significance between the 2 groups in gastrointestinal symptoms which lasted more than 2 weeks. 2) There was a statistically significant difference in nutritional status(lympocyte : P=.002 ; skinfold thickness in four areas : p<0.05) between the cancer and the non-cancer patients. The percentage of the patients who had the possibility of malnutrition was 65.5% in cancer patients and 6% in non-cancer patients. 3) There was a correlation between the weight loss during the last 6 months before admission and body mass index and skinfold thickness.

Molecular Characterization, Chromosomal Localizations, Expression Profile, and Association Analysis of the Porcine PECI Gene with Carcass Traits

  • The full-length cDNA of the porcine peroxisomal ${\Delta}^3$,${\Delta}^2$-enoyl-CoA isomerase (PECI) gene encodes a monofunctional peroxisomal ${\Delta}^3$,${\Delta}^2$-enoyl-CoA isomerase. Cloning and sequencing of the porcine PECI cDNA revealed the presence of an 1185-base pair open reading frame predicted to encode a 394-amino acid protein by the 5'rapid amplification of cDNA ends (5'RACE) and EST sequences. The porcine PECI gene was expressed in seven tissues (heart, liver, spleen, lung, kidney, skeletal muscle, fat) which was revealed by reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). The porcine PECI was mapped to SSC71/2 p11-13 using the somatic cell hybrid panel (SCHP) and the radiation hybrid panel (RH) (LOD score 12.84). The data showed that PECI was closely linked to marker S0383. A C/T single nucleotide polymorphism in PECI exon 10 (3'UTR) was detected as a PvuII PCR-RFLP. Association analysis in our experimental pig population showed that different genotypes of PECI gene were significantly associated with the Average Backfat thickness (ABF) (p<0.05) and Buttock backfat thickness (p<0.01).

Carcass Characteristics and Qualitative Attributes of Pork from Immunocastrated Animals

  • An investigation was carried out to assess the carcass characteristics and meat quality aspects of immunocastrated male pigs of medium genetic potential for lean meat deposition in carcass (53 to 55%). When the crossbred Large White x Landrace pigs (n = 45) were 70 days old, they were distributed in a totally randomized design in three treatments (castrated males, females and immunocastrated males) with three replicates of five animals. The pigs were slaughtered when they were 140 days old. Carcass temperature and pH were recorded twice, at 45 min and 24 h after slaughter. The carcasses were evaluated for hot and cold carcass yield, commercial cuts yield, length and depth, back fat thickness, loin eye area and lean meat percentage. The Longissimus dorsi muscle was extracted for analysis of color ($L^*$, $a^*$, $b^*$), exudate loss, cooking loss and centesimal and sensorial analysis of the meat. There were no significant differences for the evaluated parameters between castrated males, immunocastrated males and females, except for backfat thickness between the 7th and 8th thoracic vertebra and the point P2 (lower for immunocastrated males) and carcass temperature at 45 min post slaughter (higher in immunocastrated males), however, this did not interfer with the rate of pH decrease post mortem and the meat quality. The results from this research did not indicate a benefit of immunocastration on carcass characteristics of pigs of medium genetic potential for lean meat deposition in carcass, when compared to surgical castration.

Relationships between Single Nucleotide Polymorphism Markers and Meat Quality Traits of Duroc Breeding Stocks in Korea

  • This study was conducted to determine the relationships of five intragenic single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers (protein kinase adenosine monophosphate-activated ${\gamma}3$ subunit [PRKAG3], fatty acid synthase [FASN], calpastatin [CAST], high mobility group AT-hook 1 [HMGA1], and melanocortin-4 receptor [MC4R]) and meat quality traits of Duroc breeding stocks in Korea. A total of 200 purebred Duroc gilts from 8 sires and 40 dams at 4 pig breeding farms from 2010 to 2011 reaching market weight (110 kg) were slaughtered and their carcasses were chilled overnight. Longissimus dorsi muscles were removed from the carcass after 24 h of slaughter and used to determine pork properties including carcass weight, backfat thickness, moisture, intramuscular fat, $pH_{24h}$, shear force, redness, texture, and fatty acid composition. The PRKAG3, FASN, CAST, and MC4R gene SNPs were significantly associated with the meat quality traits (p<0.003). The meats of PRKAG3 (A 0.024/G 0.976) AA genotype had higher pH, redness and texture than those from PRKAG3 GG genotype. Meats of FASN (C 0.301/A 0.699) AA genotype had higher backfat thickness, texture, stearic acid, oleic acid and polyunsaturated fatty acid than FASN CC genotype. While the carcasses of CAST (A 0.373/G 0.627) AA genotype had thicker backfat, and lower shear force, palmitoleic acid and oleic acid content, they had higher stearic acid content than those from the CAST GG genotype. The MC4R (G 0.208/A 0.792) AA genotype were involved in increasing backfat thickness, carcass weight, moisture and saturated fatty acid content, and decreasing unsaturated fatty acid content in Duroc meat. These results indicated that the five SNP markers tested can be a help to select Duroc breed to improve carcass and meat quality properties in crossbred pigs.

35~49세 남성의 체형연구 (A Study on the Body Shapes of Men at the Age of 35~49)

  • The purpose of this study is to design men's clothing pattern that supplemented the problems of body shapes, by grasping the physical characteristics of middle-aged men and classifying their body shapes through comparing measurements after carrying out the human-body measurement targeting 120 middle-aged men at the age of 35-49 in full. As to the technical-statistic analysis of the measurement items, it could be seen that the middle-aged people who are the research target, have the obese body shapes. As a result of carrying out the factor analysis by the measurement analysis, it was derived the totally five factors such as thickness and width, stature and height, weight and girth, the bust length, and the shoulder shape. The total communality is 78.47%, and as a result of the cluster analysis by the factor score, it was classified into three clusters. Type 1 is the body shape with the great stature, the waist region a little obese, and the biggest thickness, width and girth. It is a flat body shape with the narrow shoulder and the smallest difference between the breast width and the waist width. As type 2 is the body shape that is small stature and is relatively not fat, it is the shape with the biggest difference between the breast width and the waist width and with the wide shoulder. Type 3 is the body shape that belongs to the middle of type 1 and type 2, has the upper-part body longer than other body shapes, and has the developed breast region with the biggest bosom width and bosom thickness.

유방조직등가 팬텀을 이용한 디지털유방촬영장치의 FFDM과 DBT의 선량과 영상품질에 대한 융합 연구 (A study of dose and image quality with Convergence FFDM and DBT using tissue-equivalent phantom in digital mammography)

  • 본 연구는 디지털 유방촬영장치의 DBT(Digital Breast Tomosynthesis)와 FFDM(Full Field DigitalMammography)의 비교를 위해 유방조직등가팬텀을 이용하여 두께와 밀도를 변화시켜 선량 및 화질을 평가하여 DBT의 유용성을 평가하였다. 측정 결과 평균유선선량은 팬텀 두께 6 cm이상 밀도 70% 이상일 때, 두께 7 cm이상 밀도 50% 이상일 때 FFDM 보다 DBT가 낮은 것을 알 수 있었다. 영상 측정 결과, 섬유소는 DBT에서 우수하다고 측정 되었고, 작은 석회화 그룹과 종양에서는 FFDM 이 우수하였다. 유방의 복잡한 조직과 유사한 BR3D 팬텀에서는 모든 두께와 섬유소, 석회화 및 종양 그룹 모두 DBT 가 우수하다고 측정 되었다. DBT는 FFDM보다밀도가 높고 두께가 두꺼운 두께가 두껍고 밀도가 높은 유방에서 영상 품질 우수하고 낮은 선량을 제공함으로서, 한국 여성의 많은 분포를 차지하는 치밀유방에 더 유용할 수 있을 것이라 사료된다.

거세한우 비육후기 농후사료 에너지 수준이 육질 및 경제성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Energy Level of Concentrate Feed on Meat Quality and Economic Evaluation in Finishing Hanwoo Steers)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of energy level of concentrate feed in finishing Hanwoo steers for 6 months before slaughter. Feeding trial was done with 2 treatment groups, IDN72 (72% of TDN in concentrate) and TDN74 (74 % of TDN in concentrate). The body weight (from 19 to 24 months) tended to be higher in TDN74 than in TDN72, but was not significant. Average daily gain of TDN74 was higher by 4.4 % in comparison to TDN72. There was no significant differences in concentrate, dry matter and TDN intake per I kg body weight gain between TDN72 and TDN74. And there was a tendency to improve crude protein intake per I kg body weight gain by increasing TDN content from 72 to 74 %. The dressing percentage tended to be higher in TDN74 than in TDN72, but was not significant. Salable meat percentage tended to be lower in TDN74 than in TDN72 because of higher body fat percentage in TDN74 than in TDN72. There were no significant differences in marbling score, meat color, fat color, carcass weight, rib-eye area and back fat thickness between TDN72 and TDN74. Significant differences were not found in shear value, cooking loss, water holding capacity or moisture and protein contents of longissimus dorsi (LD) muscles between TDN72 and TDN74. Fat content of LD muscles tend to be lower in TDN74 than in IDN72 but without any significance. There was a tendency to improve juiciness and taste by feeding IDN74 rather than TDN72. Especially, tenderness of TDN74 was increased by 7.4% in comparison to TDN72 (p < 0.05). Gross income from TDN74 was higher than TDN72 by 5% The results suggested that significant differences were not found in growth performance, feed conversion and carcass characteristics between TDN72 and TDN74. The results also show that more studies are required to clarify the energy level for finishing Hanwoo steers.

인진쑥 급여가 성별에 따른 육성-비육기 돈육의 도체 및 육질특성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Dietary Mugwort Powder on Carcass and Meat Quality Characteristics of Gilt and Barrow in Growing-Finishing Period)

  • 본 연구에서는 인진쑥의 건조 분말을 육성기-비육기의 거세돈 및 암퇘지(LY×D)의 평균체중이 50.37kg일 때부터 출하시까지 90일간 처리하였을 때 도체특성, 일반성분, 콜레스테롤 함량, 육질특성에 미치는 영향을 조사하기 위해 실시하였다. 일반사료에 인진쑥 분말을 급여사료 기준으로 C(0%), T1(0.5%), T2(1.0%), T3(1.5%) 처리하였다. 도체중의 경우 T2 및 T3의 증체량이 대조구보다 유의적으로 높게 나타났으나(p<0.05), 등지방 두께 및 도체 등급의 유의적인 차이가 없었다. 수분, 지방, 회분, 콜레스테롤 함량은 시험구간의 유의적인 차이가 나타나지 않았으나(p>0.05), T2 및 T3의 단백질 함량이 대조구보다 유의적으로 높은 값을 나타내었다(p<0.05). pH, WHC, 가열감량신선육 및 지방의 전단가의 유의적인 차이가 나타나지 않았다(p>0.05). 육색 및 지방의 백색도(CIE L*)는 T2 및 T3가 유의적으로 높게 나타났으나(p<0.01), 육색 및 지방의 적색도(CIE a*) 및 황색도(CIE b*)가 유의적인 차이가 나타나지 않았으며(p>0.05), 전단가의 유의적인 차이가 나타나지 않았다(p>0.05).

한우 거세우의 도체 형질간의 관계 (Carcass Traits and Their Relationships in Hanwoo(Korean Native) Steers)

  • 이 연구는 한우에 있어서 몇 가지 도체형질의 특성을 파악하고 각 형질들 간의 관계를 추정하기 위하여 수행되었다. 도체중, 등지방두께, 살코기 비율(meat %), 뼈 비율(bone %), 근내지방% 및 배장근단면적의 평균치는 각각 300.27kg, 9.23mm, 58.99%, 12.92%, 28.08% 및 74.00$cm^2$ 이었다. 숙성 전 ($pH_B$) 및 숙성 후 ($pH_A$)의 산도와 조리손실(숙성 전 및 숙성 후)은 각각 5.32, 5.60, 16.43 및 19.21 이었다. 근육의 평점과 지방색은 3.67 및 3.17을 나타내었다. 배장근 단면적과 육량등급은 도체중, 적육% 및 뼈%와 극히 미약한 正의 상관이 존재하는 반면에 근내 지방도와는 負의 상관을 보였다. 등지방두께는 도체중 및 적육량과 正의 상관이었으나 뼈의 % 및 근내지방 %와는 負의 상관을 나타내었다. 酸度는 調理 損失과 숙성전후에 관계없이 負의 상관을 보였다.
