The periodic domain-inversion in the selective areas of $Ti:LiNbO_3$ Mach-Zender waveguides was performed and band-pass modulators and single sideband (SSB) modulators were fabricated by using domain-reversal. The domain wall velocity was precisely controlled by real-time analysis of a poling-induced response current under an applied voltage. The domain wall velocity was significantly affected by the crystal orientation of the domain wall propagation which influenced the final domain geometry. In a certain case, the decomposition of $LiNbO_3$ crystal was observed, for example, under the condition of too fast domain wall propagation. The fabricated band-pass modulator with a periodic domain-inversion structure showed the maximum modulation efficiency at 30.3 GHz with 5.1 GHz 3dB-bandwidth, and SSB modulator was measured to show 33 dB USB suppression over LSB at 5.8 GHz RF.

A new functional organic thin film optical waveguide ion sensor is designed, which can select a specific ion, i.e., $Ca^{2+}$ -ion. The sensing membrane was composed of PVC-PVAC-PVA copolymer matrix based on anionic cation-selective chromoionophor(ETH5294), neutral ionophore(K23El), anionic site and plasticizer and it was coated on the etched glass substrate as embeded type optical waveguide itself. The sensor sensitivity dependence on waveguide length and thickness, contence of chromoionophore, and each mode was investigated. And this sensor could detect $Ca^{2+}$ ion in concentrations ranging from 1$\times$106~1M(with 0.05M tris-HCI buffer solution of pH7.4) by measuring the absorbance change at 514nm of light. Utilizing thin film membrane, the fast response time and high sensitivity are obtained. Also, it is expected that this sensor can be applied to various biochemical important ions.ons.

A low-cost and flexible potassium ion (K+) sensor was fabricated through a screen-printed process. Uniform and conformal coating of conductive inks was verified by scanning electron microscopy and optical microscopy measurements. The K+-sensors showed a high sensitivity, fast response time, and low detection limit. The sensitivity of K+-sensor was similar to that of both mechanically normal and bent states. The K+-sensor exhibited a good reproducibility with no hysteresis effect and excellent long term stability. In addition, the K+-sensor showed an excellent selectivity for K+ concentrations in the presence of other interfering cation ions. Successful measurements of K+ concentrations in sports drink samples were demonstrated by comparing K+ concentration values from K+-sensor to those of using a commercial K+-meter.
The polymeric membrane pH sensor based on HDBA(hexyldibenzylamine) or HDPA(hexyldiphenylamine) as hydrogen ion carrier was prepared and electrochemical characterization for the variation of a temperature and membrane thickness were studied on. The sensor based on HDPA was not responded selectively to hydrogen ion. The sensor based on HDBA was responded linearly to hydrogen ion in the range of pH 2 - pH 10, it showed the fast response time of 30 - 50sec. and Nernstian slope of 53.6mV/pH. The interfering effect on alkali and alkaline earth metal ions of pH sensor were lower than glass pH sensor. There was shown a good reproducibility and stability with the precision of 2 - 4mV (${\pm}0.1mV$).

In recent years the interest in online monitoring of lightweight structures with ultrasonic guided waves is steadily growing. Especially the aircraft industry is a driving force in the development of structural health monitoring (SHM) systems. In order to optimally design SHM systems powerful and efficient numerical simulation tools to predict the behaviour of ultrasonic elastic waves in thin-walled structures are required. It has been shown that in real industrial applications, such as airplane wings or fuselages, conventional linear and quadratic pure displacement finite elements commonly used to model ultrasonic elastic waves quickly reach their limits. The required mesh density, to obtain good quality solutions, results in enormous computational costs when solving the wave propagation problem in the time domain. To resolve this problem different possibilities are available. Analytical methods and higher order finite element method approaches (HO-FEM), like p-FEM, spectral elements, spectral analysis and isogeometric analysis, are among them. Although analytical approaches offer fast and accurate results, they are limited to rather simple geometries. On the other hand, the application of higher order finite element schemes is a computationally demanding task. The drawbacks of both methods can be circumvented if regions of complex geometry are modelled using a HO-FEM approach while the response of the remaining structure is computed utilizing an analytical approach. The objective of the paper is to present an efficient method to couple different HO-FEM schemes with an analytical description of an undisturbed region. Using this hybrid formulation the numerical effort can be drastically reduced. The functionality of the proposed scheme is demonstrated by studying the propagation of ultrasonic guided waves in plates, excited by a piezoelectric patch actuator. The actuator is modelled utilizing higher order coupled field finite elements, whereas the homogenous, isotropic plate is described analytically. The results of this "semi-analytical" approach highlight the opportunities to reduce the numerical effort if closed-form solutions are partially available.

This paper describes sensorless speed control of brushless DC motors by using direct torque control. Direct torque control offers fast torque response, robust specification of parameter changes, and lower hardware and processing costs compared to vector-controlled drives. In this paper, the current error compensation method is applied to the sensorless speed control of a brushless DC motor. Through this control technique, the controlled stator voltage is applied to the brushless DC motor such that the error between the stator currents in the mathematical model and the actual motor can be forced to decay to zero as time proceeds, and therefore, the motor speed approaches the setting value. This paper discusses the composition of the controller, which can carry out robust speed control without any proportional-integral (PI) controllers. The simulation results show that the control system has good dynamic speed and load responses at wide ranges of speed.

Piezoelectric actuators have been widely used in various applications because they have many advantages such as fast response time, repeatable nanometer motion, and high resolution. However Piezoelectric actuators have the strong hysteresis effect. The hysteresis effect can degrade the performance of the system using piezoelectric actuators. In past study, the parameters of the inverse hysteresis model are computed from the identified parameters using the Generalized Prandtl-Ishlinskii(GPI) model to cancel the hysteresis effect, however according to the identified parameters there exist the cases that can't form the inverse hysteresis loop. Thus in this paper the inverse hysteresis modeling mothod is proposed using the Inverse Generalized Prandtl-Ishlinskii(IGPI) model to handle that problem. The modeling results are verified by experimental results using various input signals.

In some cases, despite the pedestrian jaywalking pedestrian traffic lights to red, or even wait for the walk signal to stand down in the driveway. If this is the case may be liable to lead to a traffic accident. Thus, using an infrared sensor wateuna adopted the approach that the warning announcement when a pedestrian enters the driveway, curved pedestrian crossing the intersection in this case, it is difficult to install. In this paper, we propose a Fitness referral system utilizes a built-in sensor of the Android mobile devices. For this purpose, the sensor is a proximity sensor using an acceleration sensor. The proximity sensor has a number of disadvantages compared to the high precision battery power, the acceleration sensor accuracy, fast response time, on the other hand, the disadvantage is the lower. Close to reduce battery consumption of the sensor, BMI of the user sensor control mechanism and increase the accuracy of the acceleration sensor (Body Mass Index) obtained after the index was applied to the recommendation algorithm, which like the movement mechanism.
Recently, a major issue in the research of metadata is the standardization of metadata format. The new extension capability of metadata in the standardization requires some changes - storing and managing dynamic data consistently. In this paper, we define the characteristics of new metadata and propose a concurrency control called Two Version Latch (2VL). 2VL uses a latch and maintains two versions. Maintaining two versions using latch minimizes conflicts between read operation and write operation. The removal of unnecessary lock holding minimizes refresh latency. Therefore, this algorithm presents fast response time and recent data retrieval in read operation execution. As a result of the performance evaluation, the 2VL algorithm is shown to be better than other algorithms in metadata management system.
With the increasing number of automobiles, the problem of air pollution from the exhaust gases of automobiles has become a critical issue. The principal gases that cause air pollution are nitrogen oxide or NO$_x$(NO and NO$_2$), and CO. Because NO$_x$ gases cause acid rain and global warming and produce ozone(O$_3$) that leads to serious metropolitan smog from photochemical reaction, they must be detected and reduced. Mixtures of WO$_3$ and $In_2O_3$(WO$_3$:$In_2O_3$=10:0, 7:3, 5:5, 3:7, and 0:10 in wt.%), which are NO$_x$ gas-sensing materials, were prepared, and thick-film gas sensors that included a heater and a temperature sensor were fabricated. Their sensitivity to NO$_x$ was measured at 250$\sim$400$^{\circ}C$ for NO$_x$ concentrations of 1$\sim$5 ppm. The $In_2O_3$ thick-film sensor showed excellent sensitivity($R_{gas}/R_{air}$=10.22) at 300$^{\circ}C$ to 5-ppm NO. The response time for 70 % saturated sensitivity was about 3 seconds, and the sensors exhibited very fast reactivity to NO$_x$.
