  • The objective of this study was to develop a fashion therapy program for improving body image and self-esteem among male workers. Accordingly, the demand for fashion therapy programs was examined by conducting a literature review, survey, and in-depth interviews with men working in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk areas. The results are summarized as follows. The fashion therapy program followed a framework of "introduction-development-final" and was 60 minutes in length, for four sessions (one per week). The contents of the program consisted of a study of the participants' appearance and any concerns they had about their body in Session 1. In Session 2, differences in image perception were examined according to color coding of menswear and personal color. Session 3 comprised understanding what styling is required to supplement men's body shape and what style is suitable for each participant. The content of Session 4 determined how to build social performance or positive image using nonverbal elements. Overall, this study has great significance in that it has developed a study on fashion therapy program originally applied for psychological treatment with women that has been adapted as a program to help improve positive emotions and social competitiveness of male workers in an office environment.

  • This study proposes an execution protocol for fashion therapy. Research on fashion therapy are limited and insufficient for the current need for the establishment of a fashion therapy theory. This study introduces cognitive behavior therapy, embodied cognition, and object relations theory as theories that underlie fashion therapy. A fashion therapy system model is provided based on the analysis of art therapy to explore its applicability to fashion therapy. The fashion therapy system model utilizes fashion items to managing pain and stress to better competence, encouragement and self-expression mechanisms to improve social, psychological, emotional and behavioral functions. In addition, 8 phases of the fashion therapy process (inquiry, forming rapport, assessment, goal-objective, observation, selection of strategy and design, practice, and the final evaluation and closing of fashion therapy) are suggested for developing a practical fashion therapy program. This study is to help overcome a negative perspective on fashion that provokes an excessive spending behavior and to make a practical contribution by creating more social value through fashion. The significance of the study is in the attempt to create an interdisciplinary approach of psychotherapy and fashion that can be extend into the fashion and textile discipline.

  • This study analyzes the experiences of a color therapy program that uses color and fashion directing to influence the psychological characteristics of adolescents, such as emotional intelligence, self-efficacy, and color expression. The subjects of this study were 15 adolescents who participated in B-City Winter School (January 6-15, 2020). Pre- and post-tests for emotional intelligence and self-efficacy were conducted to confirm the effect of the color therapy program that indicated a significant difference at the p<.05 level. Statistical significance was confirmed through the GEE model for formal characteristics used in pre/post and fashion-directed color expression. Peter pre- and post-changes in vocabulary emergence were investigated with a Word Cloud analysis using R program 4.0.2 that extracted the lower and upper categories. The significance of this study is that by expressing both color expression and fashion direction together, a program was provided for adolescents to have richer emotional experiences and career-related experiences. This study examined changes within a short period of time in 15 subjects; consequently, a follow-up in-depth qualitative analysis of the program effect and a post-testing study on maintaining the long-term effect is expected to secure further validity and usefulness of the study results. In addition, new studies are expected to contribute to the development of differentiated fashion-related education programs.

  • This study aimed to investigate the impact of college students' fashion competence on social anxiety, focusing on the mediating effects of interpersonal skills and appearance anxiety. To this end, a survey was conducted among 235 college students via online communities, and the data were analyzed using SPSS 26.0. The factor analysis revealed sub-factors of fashion competence, including fashion involvement, fashion innovativeness, and confidence in fashion coordination. The regression analysis of the mediation model showed that while fashion involvement indirectly reduces social anxiety through interpersonal skills, there was no mediating effect of appearance anxiety. Fashion innovativeness had an indirect impact on social anxiety through appearance anxiety, but there was no mediating effect through interpersonal skills. Confidence in fashion coordination influenced social anxiety indirectly through both interpersonal skills and appearance anxiety, and it also had a significant direct effect. This research confirmed that fashion competence can have a dual impact on social anxiety, and suggested that enhancing confidence in fashion coordination through fashion therapy programs might be beneficial for resolving college students' social anxiety. However, such programs should avoid excessively pursuing fashion innovativeness, as it can increase appearance anxiety, and should focus on enhancing confidence in one's appearance.
