As mobile phone has acquired a status of a fashion item expressing one's character, it is necessary to understand the fashion needs for this new fashion product. The purpose of this study was to apply the fashion orientation construct developed in the clothing research field to mobile phone and explore its validity. The multi-dimensional construct of fashion orientation which most widely represented the fashion aspects was examined for the two product categories of clothing and mobile phone. Data were collected from an online questionnaire survey, and a total of 1,136 responses were analyzed. The construct structure of fashion orientation of mobile phone resulted in individuality, innovation, and fashion was different from that of clothing extracted to interest/importance, fashion/innovation, and individuality. Fashion sensitivity and an early adoption of a new product were two different dimensions in mobile phone while not separable in clothing. Despite a higher predictability of the fashion/innovation orientation of clothing on fashion orientation rather than on innovation orientation of mobile phone, innovation orientation was more important to purchase behaviors of mobile phone. The study still implies that it is valid to use clothing fashion innovative consumers for mobile phone marketing.
The purposes of this study were to investigate actual use, design preference, and purchasing behaviors of bedding among married women in their 30s to 60s, and to determine the differences by age groups on these variables. The subjects were 623 married women and the research method was survey. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, cross tab analysis, multiple response analysis, ANOVA, and Duncan's multiple range test, using SPSS program. The results were as follows. First, on the actual use of bedding, the possession quantity of the bed cover and mattress was 2~4 while bedclothes and pillow was 7~8. The period of use of bedding was about 2~4 years and the frequency of washing was about 2~3 times a month. Second, married women generally preferred white and pastel tones, floral patterns, cotton fabrics, and a clean and comfortable image on bedding designs. Third, on the purchasing behaviors of bedding, married women considered functional damage and health & sanitary aspects as important purchase purposes. The most important selection criterion was fabric. Price, tactility, functionality, and manageability were also important criteria. Married women generally used the internet and store displays as important information sources, and considered bedding specialty stores as important purchase places. They generally spent about 200,000~300,000 won a year to purchase bedding. Fourth, the actual use, design preference, and purchasing behaviors of bedding showed many differences by age group. Therefore, it is needed to establish product development and marketing strategy of bedding, considering customers'age variable.
The purpose of this study was to compare knitwear design preferences and purchase behaviors of university students by sex. The subjects were 493 university students in Daejeon and Gongju provinces. The research method was a survey and measurement instruments were 16 stimuli which were manipulated of knitwear shape and self-administrated questionnaire (knitwear design preference items, knitwear favorite image items, purchase behavior items and subject' demographic attributions). Data were analyzed by factor analysis, frequency analysis, t-test, Cronbach' ${\alpha}$ using SPSS program. The results of the study were as follows. First, as for pullover designs according to pullover shape factors, male preferred classic design with normal round neck, set-in sleeves and normal length, whereas female preferred various designs with normal round, normal V or deep V neck, set-in sleeves and normal or long length. Second, there was significant difference by sex in knitwear patterns and materials. Male preferred geometric patterns and 100% cotton, whereas female preferred natural patterns and blended cotton. Third, 4 factors were emerged on knitwear favorite images(casual image, modem classic image, active image and characteristic image). Especially, there was significant difference by sex in active image. Male preferred active image, whereas female did not. Fourth, as for knitwear purchases, male considered fitting as important purchase criteria, whereas female considered design or style. Male used department stores for purchasing, whereas female used Bosejeom for independent fashion. Male preferred high quality knitwear to female.
The availability of detailed data on customers' online behaviors and advances in big data analysis techniques enable us to predict consumer behaviors. In the past, researchers have built purchase prediction models by analyzing clickstream data; however, these clickstream-based prediction models have had several limitations. In this study, we propose a new method for purchase prediction that combines information theory with machine learning techniques. Clickstreams from 5,000 panel members and data on their purchases of electronics, fashion, and cosmetics products were analyzed. Clickstreams were summarized using the 'entropy' concept from information theory, while 'random forests' method was applied to build prediction models. The results show that prediction accuracy of this new method ranges from 0.56 to 0.83, which is a significant improvement over values for clickstream-based prediction models presented in the past. The results indicate further that consumers' information search behaviors differ significantly across product categories.
The purpose of this study was to classify the lifestyles of 20's unmarried women, identify the differences among the lifestyle groups, and analyze sportswear purchase behaviors and brand loyalty according to the lifestyle types. The subjects were 312 single women who had purchased sportswear. The questionnaire consisted of measurement items for lifestyle, purchase behaviors, brand loyalty and demographic attributions. The data were analyzed by Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, factor analysis, cluster analysis, ANOVA, ${\chi}^2$-test and Duncan's multiple range test, using SPSS 18.0 program. The results of the study were as follows. First, as a result of cluster analysis to classify the lifestyles of 20's single women, 4 groups were identified as practical and advanced-media-usage type, adventurous and self-actualizing type, enthusiastic-fashion seeking type, active and leisure-oriented type. Second, 3 factors of brand loyalty were classified as continuous brand loyalty, habitual brand loyalty and no brand loyalty. Third, upon analyzing the differences of brand loyalty based on lifestyles, practical and advanced-media-usage type and enthusiastic-trend seeking type showed no brand loyalty. Forth, 4 groups showed different sportswear purchase behaviors, such as purchase motivation, information sources, purchase frequency, purchase cost of one time, purchase place, the number of possession and purchase items.
This study examines underwear purchase behaviors and the attitude of male consumers based on the degree of interest in appearance. Data research was conducted on 296 males in their 20s and 30s located in Seoul & Gyeonggi province. The SPSS 17.0 software program was used to conduct data analyses such as descriptive statistics, frequency analysis, factor analysis, cluster analysis, t-test, and $\chi^2$-test. The results of this study are as follows: The degree of interest in appearance was identified with four factors; outfit management, confidence of figure, interest in clothing, weight control, and disinterest in appearance. Customers were segmented into two subdivisions: high and low interest in appearance. The factors derived from the factor analysis of underwear purchase motive included aesthetic, impulsiveness, and practicality. The purchase behavior of the group with high interest in appearance was highly motivated by aesthetics and impulsiveness. The factors derived from the factor analysis of underwear attitude included fashionability, comfortableness, and quality. Customers were segmented into the following three subdivisions: pursuit of comfortableness, pursuit of diversity, and normal. The type of high interest in appearance regarded fashionability and quality highly. Finally, the degree of interest in appearance showed significant relevance in purchase motive and underwear attitude for underwear.
The purposes of this study were to identify the dimensions of consumers' dissatisfaction with dress shoes when purchase and while using them, and to examine the differences in dissatisfaction factors among consumers grouped by age, occupation and purchasing characteristics. A questionnaire consisted of 86 consumer's dissatisfaction statements with purchasing and using women's dress shoes was developed after conducting 3 pilot tests, and administered to 5BO women in age between 20 and 60 years residing in Seoul and the metropolitan areas in June, 1997, 457 were used for data analysis. Ten factors of dissatisfaction with the women's dress shoes when buying them were identified: attitudes of salespersons, bargain sales, variety of styles, store environment, inconvenience in using girt certificates, fashion. advertisement, display, design, and size. During purchase stage, consumers grouped by demographic characteristics and purchase behaviors showed significant differences in design, attitudes of salespersons, store environment, and selected dissatisfaction factors. Nine dissatisfaction factors with using dress shoes were identified: physical discomfort, after-service, distort of shape, low quality, surface defects, suede/ wearing out, fit, inferiority of color and texture/walking discomforts. During consumption stage, consumers with different demographic characteristics and purchase behaviors were found significantly different in physical discomfort, fit, and selected dissatisfaction factors.
This study examines age differences with respect to consumers' clothing purchase behavior. First, the differences of age groups were investigated according to clothing purchase behavior, which include purchase item, purchase price, purchase channel, information resources, purchase frequency, and monthly clothing expenditures. Second, the differences of segmented groups by age variable were investigated according to clothing purchase behaviors after segmenting consumers by clothing shopping orientation. An on-line survey was conducted from July 2 to July 10, 2019, and 500 data were collected from adults aged 20s to 60s who had bought their own clothes within one year. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, factor analysis, reliability analysis, chi-squared test, ANOVA and Duncan-test using SPSS 21.0. This findings showed that there were significant differences in purchase item, purchase price, purchase channel, purchase frequency, and information resources according to age group. As a result of segmentation by shopping orientation, consumers were classified into three groups of high shopping involvement, low shopping involvement, and economic pursuit. In addition, there were partly significant differences in clothing purchase behavior according to classified groups by age variable.
Idol goods refer to products such as cups and towels, or mementos or souvenirs that are manufactured to gratify the desires of fandom and may include the facial images of a star. The objective of this research was to explore the purchase behaviors of K-pop idol goods. Two hundred and sixty female idol goods purchasers in their twenties participated in an online survey. Cheering tools were the most often purchased idol goods, followed by idol slogans and dolls. To investigate the difference in idol goods' attributes they considered when shopping, respondents were divided into three purchase groups based on their annual total expense for purchasing idol goods. There were significant differences among light, medium and heavy purchasers in terms of goods' price, practical features, and scarcity. The light shopper group was majorly guided by price and practical features as compared to the other two groups, and heavy shopper group was majorly guided by scarcity attribute than in the other two shopper groups. The more they identified their favorite idols, the more they worked hard, the higher their income, the higher the expenses of investing in idol products, the more likely they were to repurchase idol goods. In term of post-purchase behavior of idol goods, most idol goods purchase by fans were stored rather than used, and few indicated that they purchase two identical idol goods for use and storage.
This study investigates the fashion lifestyles and the effect on clothing purchase behavior by female consumers living in Mumbai India. Data were collected from 129 Indian women in their teens to thirties living in Mumbai and were analyzed by factor analysis, cluster analysis, one-way ANOVA, Duncan test, ${\chi}^2$-test, frequency analysis using SPSS 12.0. The results of this study are as follows. Five factors of fashion lifestyle are identified: fashion consciousness, price orientation, advertisement/brand orientation, being aware of others, and tradition orientation. Female consumers were classified into four groups based on fashion lifestyle factors: display/brand oriented group, active profit seeking group, fashion oriented group, and a tradition oriented group. There were significant differences among the fashion lifestyle groups on five criteria (latest fashion, price, commonality with existing clothing, size, and the distance to the store) out of the 13 criteria. The display/brand oriented group showed high scores on the latest fashion and size. The active profit-seeking group generally showed high scores on all five factors. The fashion oriented group showed high scores on latest fashion and commonality with existing clothing when buying clothes. Finally, the tradition oriented group showed high scores only on the distance to the shop, while they (the tradition oriented group) showed low scores on the other criteria. The examination on the actual conditions of clothing purchase among fashion lifestyle groups showed that only the monthly expenditure for clothing is significantly different. The display/brand oriented group and active profit seeking group spent more on clothing than the other two groups.
