  • Korea may have the social environment that has a high interest and demand for the fashion industry, but the relative importance that the Hanbok industry occupies in the fashion industry is very low. It can be found that this is attributed to the difficulty in identifying the trends of Hanbok due to the smallness of Hanbok material producers and Hanbok producers, a change in consumers' consciousness of Hanbok, the difficulty of ties and integration between Hanbok-related organizations, the lack of support from government and the like. Given the recent trend that the principal factor that enables the Korean fashion industry to be competitive in the world fashion business community is based on the beauty of Hanbok, this indifference to the Korean Hanbok industry would be the roadblock to internationalizing the Korean fashion industry. Accordingly, this study attempted to identify the problem of Hanbok-rela1ed department as the basic work for the development of the Hanbok industry and present the plan to activate it, thereby providing basic materials for exploiting the new arena of the Hanbok cultural industry the domestic and foreign fashion market in the 21st century.

  • A universal design means a progressive and challenging design in the 21st century which can satisfy the demands from not only aged people and disabled people but also numerous members of our society. This research aims to apply a universal design commonly used in architecture (environment) and products to costumes, so as to convert the design into a universal fashion which can meet the aesthetic values, desires, and functionality of aged people and disabled women. After applying the said five universal fashion principles and design factors, a total of 20 pieces of universal fashion prototype products are produced through functional designs and designs utilizing knit materials and health & functionality materials. In addition, a direction to develop universal fashion products is suggested for costume manufacturers, for the purpose of facilitating the practical use of a universal fashion. The present author expects that human-centered universal fashion costumes shall propose the orientation of the interest in future new designs, beyond the scope of a jump in the quality of simple functional costumes.

  • As interest in the environment increases, consumers increasingly choose to buy products with eco-friendly production processes. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of consumption values and materialism/voluntary simplicity on the attitudes and purchase intentions toward eco-friendly fashion products. A survey of university students in Seoul was conducted and 203 questionnaires were analyzed using SPSS 23.0. The consumption values consisted of six factors: subjective value, novelty value, social value, brand value, practical value, and health/safety value. Materialism/voluntary simplicity was grouped into two factors of materialism pursuit and voluntary simplicity pursuit. Brand values were found to negatively affect attitudes toward eco-friendly fashion products. The more one pursued brand names, the more negative was one's attitude toward eco-friendly fashion products. Health/safety values had a positive effect on purchase intentions for eco-friendly fashion products and voluntary simplicity pursuit had a positive effect on both attitudes and purchase intentions. The materialist group had high subjective value, novelty value, social value, and brand value among the consumption values, and the voluntary simplicity-seeking group tended to pursue the value of health and safety. This study was meaningful in that it identified the characteristics of consumers showing favorable attitudes toward eco-friendly fashion products.

  • This study examined fashion through the lens of Charles Taylor's concept of 'Authenticity.' From the point of view of 'Authenticity,' fashion can be thought of as "a means of expressing one's inner truth" and "affirmative about everyday life." According to 'Authenticity,' fashion, in the first case ("one's inner truth") appears as 1) magnetic uniqueness, 2) inner subjectivity, and 3) poiēsis. And in the second case ("affirmative about everyday life") it is expressed as 1) naturalism, 2) positivity of self-expression, and 3) existentiality. For this study, we selected a high school 'ganzi' contest, whose participants were deemed to have a high level of interest in and understanding of fashion, compared to other teenagers living in South Korea. Among the 33 participants in 'Goganzi' Seasons 1 and 2, we analyzed the styles and looks of 30 works by the six people who made it to the final stage. As a result, we broke down the aesthetic values of authenticity that teenagers express through their fashion into three categories: plurality, originality, and creativity.

  • The Hallyu wave based on K-pop and K-culture has increased the global interest in Korean culture. Therefore, to satisfy consumer demand, there is an attempt to develop a variable fashion design using traditional Korean culture. Transformable fashion design causes changes in form and meaning according to various situations and needs and can induce active participation of consumers. Therefore, we intend to propose a transformable fashion design that is based on traditional Korean culture but appears in a new form and meets the needs of consumers of fashion design. Among Korean traditional culture, wrapping cloths, bojagi are practically used by ordinary people until now, and their shape and use change according to the user's needs. This study intends to derive expression characteristics by examining the expression tendencies of bojagi and to develop transformable fashion designs through the derived data. The purpose of this study is to make and propose transformable fashion designs in real life using the expression characteristics of Korean bojagi. As the method of this study, we first conducted a literature review. Through this, a case study of empirical production was conducted in parallel with the development and production of transformable fashion designs using bojagi. A total of three illustrations and six variable fashion designs were developed. Two of the six works are transformable fashion design that change through movement and expansion of the square shape, the prototype of the bojagi, and two works are modular, bringing changes in function through combination and separation. The work was produced as a multi-purpose transformable fashion design that can be used as clothes or a bag.

  • Evaluations of fashion products are often influenced by consumers' knowledge of the country where the products were made in. As globalization progresses, country-of-origin information is widely regarded as a powerful cue on consumers' shopping behavior. The purpose of study was to examine the consumer evaluation of apparel products with uni-national or bi-national country of origin. The effect of price level and gender were also investigated. The empirical research design took 2${\times}$2 factorial design with the country-of-origin coincidence (uni-national vs. bi-national) and price (high vs. low) of gender (male vs. female). Consumers' ethnocentrism and country-of-origin interest were taken into account as covariates in the factorial design. The consumers' evaluation of fashion products was measured in terms of brand attitudes and product attitudes. Data from 514 respondents were analyzed with t-test, one-way ANOVA, two-way ANOVA, and ANCOVA. Results of this study affirmed the importance of price information rather than country-of-origin coincidence in brand attitudes and product attitudes. Only for male consumers, interaction effects of price and country-of-origin coincidence had significant eflects on utilitarian attitude. Effects of two covariate variables included in the study were significant for female respondents but not for male respondents.
