  • In this paper a semi-analytical approach is proposed to study the lateral behavior of a piled footing under horizontal loading. As accurate computation of stresses is usually needed at the interface separating the footing (pile) and the soil, this important location should be appropriately modeled as zero-thickness joint element. The piled footing is embedded in elastic soil with either homogeneous modulus or modulus proportional to depth (Gibson's soil). As the pile is the principal element in the piled footing system, a limited parametric study is carried out in order to investigate the influence of footing dimensions and the interface conditions on the lateral behavior of the pile. Hence, the pile behavior is examined through its main governing parameters, namely, the lateral displacement profiles, the bending moments, the shear forces and the soil reactions. The numerical results are presented for Poisson's ratio of 0.2 to represent a large variety of sands and Poisson's ratio of 0.5 to represent undrained clays.

  • The study aims to review airline services like the domestic line performance, the general flight fares and website discount fairs, reservation cancellation and cancellation charges, reroutings and personal discount system of the low cost carriers(LCC), and suggest what needs to be done to improve the airline service. The improvements to be made by the LCC should include increasing regular domestic lines, providing information compared for consumers, relieving the toll to call the service center, revising the conditions on reservation cancellation penalty, rerouting charges, revising the consumer dispute resolution standards, and promoting frequent fliers program. Development strategies should be established that can boost consumer benefits through the improvement of the airline services.

  • RF-ID system is being used in such diverse applications as access control, highway toll collection, personnel identification, and subway system. Especially for subway system that typically see high volumes of passenger at specific times of the days. it's critical to find a way to collect fares without unnecessarily delaying passengers. In the study, we discuss the possibility of removing all ticket gate machines in stations. This paper presents the discrimination method of card group for subway station without enter and exit gates using RF-ID system.

  • The financial incomes of urban rail transit authorities have been only from the fares. In order to increase the customers and expand the scope of enterprise, it is the most feasible mean to develop the area around the stations. Current experiences have confronted the excessive concentration of population and traffic congestion due to the lack of systematic planning and the excessive focus on the business. This study reviewed the necessity of the impact area around the urban rail transit stations by the organizational analysis for the urban rail transit authorities, and reviewed domestic/foreign cases. Finally, This study suggested the strategy for the development of impact area around the urban rail transit stations.

  • The Korean high speed train runs at 300 km/h, ballast-flying phenomenon often happens by strong train-wind. It is important to consider the prevention of ballast-flying phenomenon, because the train under-body and fares or walker around a rail might be damaged. In this study, Numerical analysis of the flow field of under-body of train and study of heighter-effect were conducted to decrease the speed of under-body. The shape of under-body was simplified for convenience of meshing and analysis. According to results of Taguchi's design by orthogonal arrays, a height of tie is dominant in the flow field, so if the heighter is installed on tie, the speed of under-body might be decreased. The result of this study is useful to build a new high-speed-line.

  • Our work aims to analyze using the finite element method the evolution of the stress intensity factor (SIF) parameter K of three laminated folded plates stacks [$+{\alpha}$, $-{\alpha}$], made of the same epoxy matrix and different reinforcement fibers (boron, graphite and glass). Our results show that the angle of orientation of the boron/epoxy composite has no great influence on the variation of the parameter KI. Compared to composite graphite/epoxy and glass/epoxy, the laminated composite boron/epoxy reduces more the SIF KI in the middle of the plate for angles $0^{\circ}{\leq}{\alpha}{\leq}30^{\circ}$.

  • At present, European railways in U.K., Sweden, and Belgium have taken serious efforts to improve railway services by implementing a service evaluation system. Not only do they measure the service-related performance of a railway system, but also operate an incentive system according to the results of service-related performance. This performance evaluation system can be also used to provide basic data for other policies such as fares, subsidies and track user charges etc. After the restructuring process of Korean national railways, therefore, although it is expected to face many difficulties in the future, it is desirable to implement a performance evaluation system for securing the long-term growth of Korean railway industry.

  • In this paper, we propose gateless fare collection system in the subway, which is removed the gate and it's critical to find a way to collect fares without unnecessarily delaying passengers. The gateless fare collection system consists of data communication zone and card check zone. Card's checking zone system may extract fare from two or more cards that one person carries. In this system, the multiple carrier frequencies of 125KHz and 2.45GHz are adopted.

  • A reduction in search costs is generally believed to make markets more competitive. However, the effect may be mitigated or amplified if consumers must pay costs for switching products. This paper investigates how search costs affect prices in the presence of switching costs using U.S. domestic airfare data for 2000-2010. The airline industry experienced a dramatic decrease in search costs with increasing Internet use in the 2000s. At the same time, the industry is known for its frequent flyer programs (FFPs), which increase switching costs for consumers. We use the average network size of airlines in a market as a proxy for switching costs related to FFPs and Internet usage as a proxy for (the inverse of) search costs. The results show that increasing Internet usage lowers airfares but that the effect is smaller for markets with a larger average network size.
