  • We study a conceptual numerical model on shock-vortex interaction setting an impulsive shock in a compressible vertex. Navier-Stokes equations are solved for the investigation of interactive structure and acoustic wave propagation. The rotationally symmetric vortex enforces two compression-expansion pairs resultantly forming a quadrupolar shape. These compressive and expansive waves cylindrically propagate to the far field and turn to acoustic waves. Using a fine uniform Cartesian grid system and a TVD-high resolution method, the flow data irl: precisely obtained to extend our interest to the sound source.

  • The interaction between a vibrating structure and a surrounding acoustic medium determines the acoustic power propagating into the far-field. A straightforward method to reduce the radiated power is to reduce the vibration of the structure. However it is more efficient to control the modes of the structure separately since each vibration mode of the structure has different radiation efficiency. An efficient method to reduce the sound radiation in the low frequency region is proposed by reducing the radiation efficiency of the structure.

  • We have been suffered from a large-scaled accidents in construction fields so far, despite a fact that more effort has been made for accident decrease. But the most important factor not to prevent those from the site is that past management technique has not been based on its related site, up to now. Three projects have been selected for comparing the previous condition with the one which this proposed technique has been applicated for. Also, individual interview with 113 workers has been done simultaneously.

  • This paper presents a new infinite element for modeling far-field of wave propagation problem in a fluid-saturated two-phase medium. The infinite element can simulate arbitrary number of multiple wave components, while wave components in infinite element developed by other researchers was limited to two compressional waves. The accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed method have demonstrated using 1-D and 2-D wave propagation problems.

  • The substructure of Light Rail Transit is mainly built on elevated structure that is composed of pier, girder and bridge deck. The bridge deck mostly has been made by field formed reinforced concrete so far. The objectives of the study are to find a method for design and construction of the new bridge deck. I-beam is fabricated to make grid and concrete is poured on it at factory. This type can be used for maintenance of duty line by advantages such as good quality control and short construction time.

  • The dipole method is now popular means for S-wave logging. Essential features of this method are explained, emphasizing basic concept based on approximation of the long-wavelength and the far-field. History of my researches concerned is shortly reviewed as background to reach the idea of this method. Short wavelength behavior of the dipole method is simply reviewed. Methods to reject tube wave noise are commented.

  • Ultra wide band electromagnetic energy can be transmitted to a far field by emitting the nanoseconds high voltage pulse electromagnetic energy via an antenna. This UWB EM energy is expected to be used in post-packing pasteurization of food, detection of buried objects or underground water veins and caves and the treatment of waste water or polluted gas. The nanoseconds pulse forming for UWB generation using high voltage blumlein line and an ultrafast switch is mentioned.

  • Offshore of Sakhalin Island is one of potential oil and gas development fields in Russia. American and Japanese companies are actively participating in the developments. They plan to export the produced oil and gas to East Asia including Korea, Japan and China. So far, offshore oil and gas field developments are mainly concentrated in the Russian Arctic area such as Barents Sea, Kara Sea and Tinman-Pechora Sea. In this article, the projects under development on the Sakhalin Shelf are reviewed and the environmental conditions in this area are summarized. At the end, the future prospects of the Sakhalin developments are reviewed.
