This study examined the experience of family of origin among those who decided consensual divorce. Questionnaires regarding family relationships, alcohol problem, domestic violence, and health in family or origin were distributed to 500 people who visited Busan Family court for filing divorce and 3% questionnaires were collected by the staff of the Family court in April, 2004. As for analyzing the data, using SPSS/WIN 10.0 program, t-test and ANOVA were conducted. The results of analyses are as follows. First, more respondents tended to report that theirs parents' marital relationship was bad in their childhood than parent-child relationship. Second, 41% of all respondents reported that their parents have had alcohol problems, and 32% reported that there had been domestic violence between their parents. Third, the overall score of health in family of origin was lower than the medium score, which implies the lower health in family of origin among the divorce deciders. Lastly, there were some differences in experiences of family of origin in terms of some demographic variables such as gender, education, and religion. Women tended to perceived their family relationship more positively than men did. Also, highly educated group of divorce deciders reported lower parental alcohol problem and higher health in family of origin than the group of lower education. Respondents which had specific religions reported that their parents have had less alcohol problems, and higher health in family-of-origin.
The present study focused on the potentially adverse consequences for children of martial conflict from the children's perspective. Children's perception of martial conflict was analyzed by relationship to behavior problems (assessed by the parents) and demographic variables (child's sex and age, parents' education, father's occupation, mother's employment, mother's age and family income). Children's perception of martial conflict varied by child's age and sex, parents' education, father's occupation, mother's age, and family income. On the other hand, behavior problems of children varied not by child's age and sex but by parents' education, father's occupation, family income, and mother's age. Behavior problems of children varied by child's perception of martial conflict and by frequency of martial conflict and self-blame. The purpose of this study was to determine the drinking behaviors and drinking problems of adult, mentally retarded persons over 18 years old. It was also investigated whether gender, age, and pattern of employment create different result of drinking behaviors and drinking problems, and the variables explaining drinking problems were analyzed. One hundred forty adults, mentally retarded persons were surveyed in Seoul and KyeongGi area. The major findings were as follows; The majority of respondents ($58.2\%$) reported that they had consumed alcohol beverages sometimes prior to their having been interviewed. The average age of respondents who had consumed alcohol was 26.4 years and average age of first-use of alcohol was 22 years. For consumption frequency, $39.2\%$ of respondents reported that they drink alcohol once a month. Average alcohol consumption per occasion was 1.5 cups, and $10.9\%$ of respondents answered more than 5 cups per occasion. Regarding problems associated with drinking, $16\%$ of respondent of AUDIT and $51.4\%$ of Family CAGE answered that their children have drinking-related problems. Men drink more than women and experience more alcohol problems. Supervised employment group was the group with the greatest prevalence for drinking. For the amount of drinking, gender and employment pattern showed significant differences. Drinking problems (AUDIT and Family CAGE) of adult, mentally retarded persons were influenced by age of first-use of alcohol, frequency of alcohol use, and alcohol consumption.
The purpose of this study empirically verified the effects which family cohesion has on the emotional and behavioral problems(internal and external problems) in middle school students, sampling 375 of 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades middle school students. Also, this study aims to confirm the mediating effect of relationship with teachers and relationship with peers considering that the social relationship in middle school students of adolescence expands to teachers and peers and is a important developmental stage. The results of this study are as follows. Family cohesion is shown to have direct effects on internal and external problems in middle school students. Also, relationship with teachers is shown to have direct effects on internal and external problems. However, relationship with peers is shown to have direct effects on internal problems while it is shown to have insignificant results statistically on external problems.
Gambling is prevailing in our society and the family problems of gamblers are also serious. In order to reduce the problems of gamblers and their families, the basic research on gambling would be the first step. In light of this, this study is a survey which has two objectives: to grasp the overall conditions of gambling and the proportion of pathological gamblers; to find the differences between the pathological gamblers' group and the general group in terms of various aspects of family relations in Choongchung area. The findings of this study is as follows, The respondents tend to gamble most with korean playing cards, either in winter or regardless of seasons. They tend to gamble most with family members, relatives, or friends. About 20% of them gamble more often than once a month, and 60% started gambling in their twenties or thirties. The proportion of pathological gamblers was found to be 11.6% of the sample of this study, with men and rural area residents to be significantly more than women and urban area residents. In the various aspects of family lives, such as marital satisfaction, family relations, family violence, family history of addiction, how to spend leisure time with family, it was found that the pathological gamblers' group has significantly more problems than the general group. On the basis of the above findings, the suggestions were made as follows. Firstly, the counter plan to gambling is necessary in the rural area, especially in winter time. secondly, positive leisure activities which substitute gambling needs to be developed, especially for men. Thirdly, family education and family therapy Program is required for the pathological gamblers and their families. Fourthly, governmental policy is necessary for the budget to prevent and treat gambling problems.
The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of family structure(parentral marital status and socioeconomic status), parental communication, academic problems, and peer relationship on juvenile delinquency. The participants were 1009 middle school and high school students in Seoul city and Gyeonggi Province. The major results were as follows: 1) Parental marital status(divorced/seperated) had both direct and indirect positive effects and lower class in socioeconomic status had an indirect positive effect on academic problems and peer relationship on juvenile delinquency rates. 2) Open maternal communication had a direct negative effect on juvenile delinquency rates. However, open paternal communication had both direct and indirect negative effects. 3) Academic problems had both direct and indirect positive effects on juvenile delinquency rates. 4) Peer relationship had a direct positive effect on juvenile delinquency rates. 5) The level of effects that each variable had differed by delinquency types. Based on these results, implications for preventing juvenile delinquency were discussed.
This study was performed to understand the structure of family experiences of adolescent behavior problems by analyzing and integrating family experiences in the family relationships. This study intends to discover in-depth family experience by analyzing the individual meaning of family experiences from client's wording. This study was performed in phenomenological method through analyzing the actual counselling cases. The results indicated that 9 units of meaning were derived on family relationships. In the family relationship domain, desire to die or kill others, guilt and resentment, not receiving the respect, mother's ignorance and verbal abuse to father were derived as primary components. Parents-children relationships-Not understanding about his father's drunkenness and disgust, getting exhausted, untrusted parents, unidirectional attitude without communication. "The Healthy Family Act" was established in 2004. It prevents problems of the family and increases the healthy characteristic of general family. According to this Act, Healthy Family Support Centers appeared to a new part of family welfare institution. This study is to search Programs and PR strategy of Healthy Family Support Center. The results of this study were as follows. First, Education program ranked highest in selecting important programs operated by the healthy family support center. Among education programs, they were the education of husband and wife relationships and the parents education that ranked on top. Second, The government further strengthen publicity relation(PR) about the HFSC. A deficiency of budget and manpower problems were major obstacles for PR activities. TV, news paper and magazine are useful medium. Management of PR activities in the HFSC is consider as one of the main factor to decide development and survival in social community.
Purpose - This paper aims to examine a spirituality's impact on the posttraumatic interpersonal relationships of family violence with a structural equation model(SEM). This article starts with the research idea that family violence experience bring about negative emotion in terms of interpersonal relationship leading to the distribution of negative affect in social relationship. The research question of this study pinpoints on how family violence experience affects interpersonal relationship problems and how spirituality affects interpersonal relations problems. Based on the idea, we attempts to deal with spirituality's impact as a driving factor of transforming the distribution of negative affect. Research design, data, and methodology - The structural equation modelling(SEM) is employed as a analysis method of this study. SEM provides a chiefly cross-sectional statistical modelling method, and moreover it allows multiple variables to be associated with a latent variable in this analysis. 300 samples from Seoul, Gyeonggy and Gangwon are selected in the survey. We chose available 271 among them. Results - The results verify that trauma have placed an negative impact on personal relations. The study results also shows that the more serious get the degree of family violence trauma, the worse become interpersonal relationship problems. What is more interesting is that the degree of trauma's impact on interpersonal relation problems in male is higher than that of trauma's impact in female. It is mainly attributed to the fact that women are superior to men in terms of empathy ability and interpersonal relationship orientation. It can be noted that the well-managed spirituality will be able to make a great contribution towards reducing the degree of trauma caused by interpersonal relationships. Conclusions - The study results demonstrates that family violence have negative impacts on spirituality, while spirituality have an positive impacts on reduction the problems of interpersonal relationship. It has been found out that family violence trauma may cause negative affectivity in personal relations, which can distribute negative impacts regarding interpersonal relationship in society. This study also supports that spirituality will be able to function well as a helper, which may reduce the distribution of negative affect in society.
The purpose of this study was conducted to investigate the effect of sleep problems and work-family conflict on job engagement of married female nurses and prove the mediating effect of work-family conflict. This study was the secondary data analysis from the 5th Korean Working Conditions Survey. The sample included 259 married female nurses. Data were analyzed using the SPSS 24.0 and AMOS 24.0 program. As a results, the significant predictors for job engagement were sleep problems (β=-.33) and work-family conflict (β=-.30). Also, there was a mediating effect of work-family conflict between sleep problems and job engagement(p<.001). And these variables explained 28.0% of married female nurses' job engagement. These findings may also be useful for improving the work-related well-being of married female nurses. Therefore, findings from this research can be used to institute guidelines for convergence interventions to increase job engagement in married female nurses.
