Background: N-myc downstream-regulated gene 2 (NDRG2), a member of a newly described family of differentiation-related genes, has been characterized as a regulator of dendritic cells. However, the role of NDRG2 on the expression and activation of transcription factors in blood cells remains poorly understood. In this study, we investigated the effects of NDRG2 overexpression on GATA-1 expression in PMAstimulated U937 cells. Methods: We generated NDRG2-overexpressing U937 cell line (U937-NDRG2) and treated the cells with PMA to investigate the role of NDRG2 on GATA-1 expression. Results: NDRG2 overexpression in U937 cells significantly induced GATA-1 expression in response to PMA stimulation. Interestingly, JAK2/STAT and BMP-4/Smad pathways associated with the induction of GATA-1 were activated in PMA-stimulated U937-NDRG2 cells. We found that the inhibition of JAK2 activation, but not of BMP-4/Smad signaling, can elicit a decrease of PMA-induced GATA-1 expression in U937-NDRG2 cells. Conclusion: The results reveal that NDRG2 promotes the expression of GATA-1 through activation of the JAK2/STAT pathway, but not through the regulation of the BMP-4/Smad pathway in U937 cells. Our findings further suggest that NDRG2 may play a role as a regulator of erythrocyte and megakaryocyte differentiation during hematopoiesis.

The present study sought to identify the differences in levels of depression and impulsivity depending on hours on SNS among Korean adolescents. Data for this study was collected from the responses of 1,008 of middle and high school students in Seoul in 2014. The upper 33%(N=364) and the lower 33%(N=319) of students who reported to spend lots of time on SNS were extracted from the total data to constitute two groups for analysis. The sample was analyzed utilizing SEM to compare depression and impulsivity levels of the upper group with those of the lower group while controlling for gender. In conclusion, there was a significant difference in level of depression and impulsivity between the two groups. The upper group that spent more time on SNS displayed higher levels of depression and impulsivity. The result of this study means that the more time the adolescents spend on SNS the more likely the adolescents are to be depressed and impulsive.

In this paper, conventional PI, fuzzy neural network(FNN) and adaptive teaming mechanism(ALM)-FNN for rotor field oriented controlled(RFOC) induction motor are studied comparatively. The widely used control theory based design of PI family controllers fails to perform satisfactorily under parameter variation nonlinear or load disturbance. In high performance applications, it is useful to automatically extract the complex relation that represent the drive behaviour. The use of learning through example algorithms can be a powerful tool for automatic modelling variable speed drives. They can automatically extract a functional relationship representative of the drive behavior. These methods present some advantages over the classical ones since they do not rely on the precise knowledge of mathematical models and parameters. Comparative study of PI, FNN and ALM-FNN are carried out from various aspects which is dynamic performance, steady-state accuracy, parameter robustness and complementation etc. To have a clear view of the three techniques, a RFOC system based on a three level neutral point clamped inverter-fed induction motor drive is established in this paper. Each of the three control technique: PI, FNN and ALM-FNN, are used in the outer loops for rotor speed. The merit and drawbacks of each method are summarized in the conclusion part, which may a guideline for industry application.
The spread of wireless Internet technology development and applications with location information in the form of location-based services are becoming more diverse. In particular, where you recognize the location of objects such as people and things and to provide valuable services based on the ubiquitous and location-based services are emerging as an important service. The collision between the vehicle position measurement in this thesis and offers related service system. Used in the proposed system, the GPS PACKET with information about the location and time of collision for the vehicle crash, the vehicle consists of a NodeID. Cause a conflict between these data at the vehicle, the vehicle through the gateway from the server to decide whether to go on to determine that an emergency situation, Emergency Center, the location information and giving information about whether the conflict is measured. Also, for such an emergency, such as a family on the outside of the wireless terminal related to Wireless (PDA, Phone) is to let me know. Purpose: While Japan undergoes super aged society, Japanese Elderly Facilities are trying to keep elderly residents from social isolation and expand regional interaction. Methods: This study analyzes regional linkage characteristics through 8 cases of Aichi-Elderly Facilities which realize regional interaction and symbiosis(life together) between various generations by visiting. Result: 1) Most researched facilities except SO provide and share opportunity for interaction with community and residents through space for regional interaction including cafe and various programs and interactive settings. 2) The facility which seeks regional linkage through Mixed-use of facilities can devide into (1) Mixed-use of facilities easy to found, (2) Addition of housing function (NM, SM, DM) and (3) Mixed-use with different facilities(HY, GM) 3) The characteristics of interaction and symbiosis between generations are (1) to adopt concept of life together to have interaction possibility with young generation and children: most studied facilities except SO (2) to establish elderly residence into facility to have interaction(FE, SM, GM) or place family room or single room into elderly residence (NM, DM, BN) (3) to disperse small facilities into community (FE) or facility or community realizing symbiosis through various facility arrangement (SM, GM). 4) Therefore, this study can categorize (1) Program network, (2) Temporary interaction, (3) Symbiosis residence, (4) Symbiosis community according to characteristics which regional linkage has. Implication: Regional Linkage is an important concept to improve social interaction in community-based facilities. It is a thought-provoking concept to Korean elderly facilities because Korean facilities are still far from a city and in isolated environment.
This study started with two questions. The first question is 'Why does organic agriculture want to be linked with cooperative?' The second is 'What is the characteristics of the mutual relationship between organic agriculture and cooperative?', especially in Wonju. Up to now, there have been various kinds of discussion about cooperation between organic agricultural campaign and cooperative in Wonju. But there are few concrete data showing what role cooperative plays in the cyclical process of production-distribution-consumption of organic agriculture. Thus, we conducted a survey applying the Delphi technique to the 35 organic agricultural specialists active in Wonju. First, small-scale family farm producers established a social economic cooperative network in around 2003 to perform 'the activities of innovators' through forming an organization. Producers moved from the stage in which they were supported one-sidedly by consumers to the stage where they could 'lead' cooperation. Each farm organization built a vertical integration, and horizontal cooperative systems with other farm organizations. But, practical cooperative activities have remained in the doldrums. They tend to show trends deviating from the principles of organic agriculture and cooperative. Second, the relationship between producers and consumers in Wonju can be described as 'producer-consumer cooperative type'. In Wonju, the producers' organization is not a sub-contractor which simply deliver organic agricultural products to producers' cooperative, but is an equal subject which creates its own value chain. The cooperative (cooperative organization) leads distribution and consumption of organic agricultural products and mutual communication. But, the closeness between producers and consumers has got loosened. And, it is problematic that the proportion of local food consumption in Wonju is very low. There is a very strong tendency to ride the central distribution system of producers' cooperative coalition. Consequently, it is necessary for producers' cooperatives in Wonju to run a local food distribution system based on the 'cooperative system among cooperatives'.

The emerging role of endothelial inflammation in diabetes has stimulated research interest in the effects of nutrition on related indices. In the current study we investigated whether the nutrient composition of dietary formula as reflected in glycemic index (GI) may be predictive of postprandial endothelial inflammation in non-diabetic subjects. A double-blinded, randomized, crossover study was conducted in non-diabetic subjects (n = 8/group). Each subject consumed three types of diabetes-specific dietary formulas (high-fiber formula [FF], high-monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA) formula [MF] and control formula [CF]) standardized to 50 g of available carbohydrates with a 1-week interval between each. The mean glycemic index (GI) was calculated and 3-hour postprandial responses of insulin, soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (sICAM-1), nitrotyrosine (NT) and free fatty acids (FFA) were measured. The MF showed the lowest mean GI and significantly low area under the curve (AUC) for insulin (P = 0.038), but significantly high AUCs for sICAM-1 (P<0.001) and FFA (P < 0.001) as compared to the CF and FF. The FF showed intermediate mean GI, but significantly low AUC for NT (P<0.001) as compared to the CF and MF. The mean GI was not positively correlated to any of the inflammatory markers evaluated, and in fact negatively correlated to changes in FFA (r = -0.473, P = 0.006). While the MF with the lowest GI showed the highest values in most of the inflammatory markers measured, the FF with intermediate GI had a modest beneficial effect on endothelial inflammation. These results suggest that nutrient composition of dietary formula as reflected in the GI may differently influence acute postprandial inflammation in non-diabetic subjects.
Background: The trend of aging society is occurring globally, and with it, one of the health problems that is emerging is frailty. Efforts are being made to account for the increasing prevalence of frailty, and various modifiable factors are being considered in regards to frailty. Because social contact has shown beneficial effects in terms of health in previous studies, it is increasingly being considered in relation to frailty. The purpose of this study was to assess the association of different types of social contact with frailty status. Methods: A total of 1,200 Korean elders aged 70-84 years old were included in the study. Using Fried's Cardiovascular Health Study index to categorize the frailty status, the relationship between frailty status and frequency of contact (i.e., with family members, friends, or neighbors) was analyzed using multinomial logistic regression accounting for confounders. Results: Adjusting for all covariates, frequency of contact with friends was the most statistically significant. Less frequent contact was associated with a significantly higher odds of pre-frailty: monthly (odds ratio [OR], 2.02; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.27-3.20), and rarely (OR, 1.87; 95% CI, 1.17-2.99), with daily contact group as reference. Also, those contacting friends monthly (OR, 5.04; 95% CI, 2.29-11.08) or rarely (OR, 3.23; 95% CI, 1.58-6.61) were more likely to be frail compared to the daily group. Conclusion: Frequency of social contact, especially with friends, is strongly associated with frailty.
Objectives: To describe the distribution of social factors, lifestyle habits and anthropometric measurements according to hypertension and Type-2 diabetes. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Gaza City, Palestine that included 379 patients (20-60 years) who had hypertension and/or diabetes. Three groups of patients were involved; 106 hypertensive (HT), 109 diabetic (T2DM) and 164 hypertensive diabetics (HT + T2DM). Results: The HT + T2DM group were older and had a higher body mass index compared to HT and T2DM groups. There were 62.3% patients who were female, 49.2% were highly educated HT patients, and 49.3% patients had a low level of education and were HT + T2DM. There were 55.8% patients who lived in large families. Patients who were passive smokers or never smoked before were mostly HT + T2DM, while active smokers and past smokers had T2DM. There were 48.2% patients who were highly physically active who had HT, 40.9% whom were moderately active had T2DM, and 53.8% of patients who had a low level of activity were HT + T2DM. Multivariate linear regression showed that having a diseased mother, living in a large family, being a past or passive smoker, or never having smoked, having a low or moderate level of activity, and having HT or HT + T2DM, were significantly associated with an increased body mass index. Conclusion: Parental health/disease conditions and environmental factors (social network and lifestyle habits) played the greatest role in the development of obesity and disease.

The study aims to analyze the posts of depression-related Facebook groups to understand major topics discussed by group users. Specifically, the purpose of the study is to identify the topics and keywords of the posts to understand what users discuss about depression. Depression is a mental disorder that is somewhat sensitive in the online community, which is characterized by accessibility, openness and anonymity. The researchers have implemented a natural language-based data analysis framework that includes components ranging from Facebook data collection to the automated extraction of topics. Using the framework, we collected and analyzed 885 posts created in the past one year from the largest Facebook depression group. To derive more complete and accurate topics, we combined both automated and manual (e.g., stop words removal, topic size determination) methods. Results indicate that users discuss a variety of topics including depression in general, human relations, mood and feeling, depression symptoms, suicide, medical references, family and etc.
