  • This study analyzed the accidents and researched on risk of the actual condition in roof works. This study revealed that 68% of accidents in roof works occurred on small sized construction sites. And 79% of accidents are caused by fall. It is simply because most laborers do not wear the safety harness and the mounted equipment is not properly installed. According to our research, we realize that most of roof works have some risk of the fall accidents. Most of roof working sites have the danger of falling at ladder and temporary walkway. In oder to prevent accidents in roof works, the basic rule such as wearing the safety harness must be followed.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate accident cases involving electronic assistive devices, to determine how these accidents can be avoided and to devise preventative instructions for the handicapped who use these devices. Methods : This study was carried out from July 20 to October 3, 2015. A consent-based survey was conducted via mail and mobile phones targeting 700 electronic assistive device users, of which questionnaires from 290 users were collected and used in the analysis. Results : Accidents involving electronic assistive devices were investigated, especially the causes of the accidents and accident prevention education, as well as the status of the electronic assistive devices. The most common accident types were collision and falling, and it was found that the victims of the accidents usually suffered severe injury to their lower limbs. Most users used electronic assistive devices every day but rarely wore a safety belt because of discomfort. There were more incidents of collision and falling for older aged handicapped users, and the injury rate to the lower limbs was highest in handicapped elderly aged 50 years or older. Conclusions : In order to prevent accidents with electronic assistive devices in the future, a or management organizations must prepare specific safety guidelines and manage these accidents.

  • We analyzed risk factors of coastal gillnet fishers during fishing process and considered work safety measures to reduce safety accidents during fishing using a UWB (ultra wideband) based positioning system. The static position accuracy of the UWB based positioning system was 45 cm. When entering a port, there is a risk of falling overboard. When casting a net, there was a risk of falling overboard due to being hit by fishing gear or guards, or getting caught in a buoy line or sinker line. When hauling a net, there is a risk of getting caught between fishing gear and net hauler, and the risk of musculoskeletal disorders due to repetitive work over a long period of time. Most safety accidents during work on fishing boats are blamed on human errors of the fisher and skipper, but safety accidents occur due to a mixture of mechanical and equipment factors, work and environmental factors, and management factors in addition to human errors. Therefore, the 4E were presented as countermeasures against the 4M, which are causes of safety accidents, and the proposed measures were used to identify risk factors for operation process, comply with work safety rules, and ensure the wearing of personal protective equipments. We need to reduce safety accidents during work by making it part of our daily routine. These research results can be used in the future for optimal placement of fishing gear and fishing nets in other coastal industries where safety accidents occur frequently.

  • Since the introduction of PSD in 2005, the number of accidents involving passengers falling onto the tracks accidentally or intentionally have drastically decreased, but the number of PSD related passenger accidents is increasing. While existing papers on PSD have been devoted to systemic introduction and system improvement, papers on passenger casuality accidents due to deteriorated PSD have been limited. This paper proposes revising of the scenario model for passenger accidents using classified hazard sources of PSD.

  • Construction has been well known as the industry in which accidents occur more often than other industries. The efforts to eliminate the accidents at construction sites need to be continuously conducted because they tend to cause the social problems such as massive loss of life and property. According to the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA), 26,570 (29.3 percent) out of 90,656 workers in total industrial accidents have been occurred in the construction industry in 2016. Particularly, the falling victims are the largest number, which is about 8,699. This number is increasing due to the increase of the large scale, high-rise, and complex construction structures and the various construction methods. In reality, there is a lack of analysis on the risk factors of safety accidents and preventive measures. Therefore, in this study, we have selected risk factors by analyzing the accident cases at construction sites. Based on the results, we conducted a safety practitioner-focused survey and had an interview with safety managers. In analyzing the cases, we have categorized them into three groups such as upper, middle, and lower and compared their statistical results. This study are expected to provide safety management guidelines with workers and safety managers to prevent previously fall accidents at construction site.

  • Despite the trend of decreasing accidents, falling accidents in the construction industry have not decreased and are even rising. Most major accidents are falling accidents caused by hanging scaffolding and are mostly serious. We conducted a review of the literature, institutions, and regulations, which showed that domestic standards are not unified because they are drawn up by referring to overseas standards for hanging scaffolding. New regulations or standards should be established, which should reflect the safety plans for equipment, work advance plans, education, and management. If facility improvement plan for Hanging Scaffolding and implementation of revision of the current work use, regulations and guides are implemented, it will be recognized in advance of the causes of the accident statistics and the classification system and will be the basis for the implementation of joint efforts by workers, managers, supervisors and owners to reduce accidents.

  • This paper aims to find out characteristics of railroad weather-related accidents and incidents and to proposes the plan of railroad disaster prevention according to the precipitation. For this, we make the database about the railroad weather-related accidents and incidents and analysis the relationship between the hourly and cumulative precipitation and railroad accidents. The results are as follows; The weather events that have the most occurrence frequency of railroad weather-related accidents and incidents is a rainfall of the precipitation and then the cause of that was the falling rocks and the collapsed roadbed. The rainfall patterns of collapsed roadbed were classified into 4 groups. When the variation of hourly rainfall is 10/15 mm/hr over, we need to consider the caution/stop of train operation and a speed limit, respectively.

  • A forklift accident occurs in the logisitcs center. there are many kinds of accidents such as a casualty accident or a minor accident, etc. there are many other causes of accident, including poor visibility and habitual operational mistakes The result of the accident is the phenomenon of cutting, falling, scratching of the product. In the case of minor accidents, workers do not report accidents, so the occurrence of accidents is unknown. The customer receives the goods and then notifies them that they are defective product. After the product is returned, we can see that the forklift accident caused the problem of the product The result of the late response affects the image of the enterprise. In this study, we recognized the need for safety education to prevent accidents and found out which of the education items could raise awareness of safety. As result of the study, disinfection and forklift maneuverability regarding speed were mentioned as the most important items in education.

  • The forklift carry cargo and move to various places. When a forklift moves to various places, a forklift accident occurs due to a number of factors, such as speed, safe distance. Forklift accidents occur at the logistic site and there are many studies on the causes of accident such as jamming, falling, collisions, etc. However, safety operation for accident prevention is necessary before operating a forklift. Pre-accident safety precautions may prevent accidents. In this study, precautionary factors for safe operation were analyzed to prevent forklift safety accidents through the AHP technique. As a result of the study showed that safety management was the priority in the terminal group and the logistics warehouse group.

  • This study statistically analyzed the laboratory accidents by investigating 806 laboratory accident survey reports which were officially submitted to government from 2013 to June 2017. After comparing domestic and foreign accident classification criteria, the laboratory accidents were classified using KCD7(Korean Standard Classification of Diseases) and OIICS(Occupational Injury and Illness Classification System) criteria. For the type and part of injury, KCD7 classification criteria was adopted. And, for the cause and occurrence type of accidents, OIICS was adopted to analyze the laboratory accidents. Most of injuries happened to the wrist and hand caused by sharp materials or chemical materials. The analysis of accident cause showed that accidents resulted in medical practice and accidents from handtools and chemical materials such as acid and alkali frequently occurred. The major occurrence types of laboratory accidents was body exposure to the chemical materials such as hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid. In addition, the accidents resulted in destroy of grasped object or falling object were frequently reported.
