불규칙파-해저지반-혼성방파제의 상호작용에 의한 지반과 구조물의 동적응답에 관한 수치시뮬레이션 (II) (Numerical Simulation of Dynamic Response of Seabed and Structure due to the Interaction among Seabed, Composite Breakwater and Irregular Waves (II))

  • 해양 및 해안구조물 하부의 해저지반에 장시간 지속적인 고파랑이 작용하는 경우 진동성분과 잔류성분으로 구성되는 과잉간극수압의 증가에 따른 유효응력의 감소로 인하여 해저지반내에 액상화의 가능성이 나타나고, 일단 액상화가 발생되면 그의 진행에 따라 구조물의 침하 혹은 전도에 의해 종국적으로 구조물이 파괴될 가능성이 높아지게 된다. 본 연구에서는 2차원수치파동수로를 혼상류해석과 불규칙파동장으로 확장한 수치해석법을 적용하여 불규칙파동장하에서 해저지반상 및 혼성방파제의 표면상에서 시간변동의 동파압과 유속에 의한 전단응력을 산정하고, 그 결과를 지반의 동적거동을 정밀하게 재현할 수 있는 유한요소법에 기초한 탄소성해저지반응답용의 수치해석프로그램에 입력치로 적용하여 불규칙파동장에서 해저지반내에서 과잉간극수압 및 유효응력의 시공간적인 변화, 이로 인한 액상화, 그리고 지반의 시간변형과 케이슨의 시간변위 및 변위가속도 등을 정량적으로 평가한다. 이로부터 혼성 방파제 전면 및 후면 하부의 해저지반내에서 액상화 가능성을 확인할 수 있었고, 이에 따라 액상화된 토립자는 흐름에 대한 저항력을 상실하므로 액상화된 지반은 세굴가능성이 클 것으로 판단된다. 또한, 액상화된 지반은 강도의 현저한 저하로 구조물의 진동변위가 증폭되고, 더불어 혼성방파제의 안정성에 큰 영향을 미칠 것으로 예상된다. 여기서, 본 연구의 전체 내용을 지면관계상 두 부분으로 나누며, 전반부를 (I)로 하여 구조물의 동적변위와 변위가속도 및 지반변형을 중심으로 다루고, 후반부를 (II)로 하여 지반내에서 간극수압의 시간변동, 액상화 및 유효응력경로 등을 상세히 다루며, 본 연구는 후반부인 (II)에 해당한다.

NPC의 방사선치료시 3D-CRT, IMRT, Tomotherapy의 유용성 분석 (The Usability Analysis of 3D-CRT, IMRT, Tomotherpy Radiation Therapy on Nasopharyngeal Cancer)

  • 암환자의 방사선 치료기술은 3D-CRT, IMRT, Tomotherapy로 발전해 가고 있으며 이 3가지의 치료법은 임상에서 가장 많이 쓰이는 방사선 치료기술이다. 본 연구에서는 3D-CRT, IMRT(Linac Based) 그리고 Tomotherapy 치료시 정상조직과 종양조직의 선량분포를 비교해 보고자 한다. 실험방법으로는 조직 등가물질로 이루어진 인체모형팬톰 (Anthropomorphic Phantom)을 대상으로 CT simulation을 실시(Slice Thickness : 3mm)하여 획득된 영상에 GTV를 비인두 부위로 정하고 PTV는 GTV에 2mm정도의 영역을 포함시켜 치료계획용 장비(ADAC-Pinnacle3. Tomotherapy Hi-Art System)으로 전송한다. 치료계획은 PTV의 처방선량을 7020 cGy로 설정한 후 PTV에 부여되는 선량값과 정상조직인 이하선, 구강, 척수에 흡수되는 선량값을 산출하였다. 실험결과 PTV에 분포된 선량값은 Tomotherapy, Linac Based - IMRT, 3D-CRT가 각각 6923 cGy, 6901 cGy, 6718 cGy의 선량분포를 보여 종양조직 처방선량값인 7020 cGy의 95%이상 부여되어 종양제어측면(TCP)에 부합하였으며 정상조직(이하선, 구강, 척수)은 각각 1966 cGy (Tomotherapy), 2405 cGy(IMRT), 2468 cGy(3D-CRT)[이하선], 2991 cGy(Tomotherapy), 3062 cGy(IMRT), 3684 cGy(3D-CRT)[구강], 1768 cGy(Tomotherapy), 2151 cGy(IMRT), 4031 cGy(3D-CRT)[척수]의 선량이 분포되었으며 이는 정상조직 합병증발생율(NTCP)의 선량을 넘지 않았다. 모든 치료기법에서 종양조직과 정상조직이 선량분포측면에 부합하였다. 3D-CRT의 치료법이 선량분포 면에서 가장 양호하지 않았지만 종양조직제어율(TCP)과 정상조직합병증율(NTCP)을 고려해 볼 때 기준치를 벗어나지 않는 선량이 분포 되었다. 상대적으로 선량분포가 우수한 Tomotherapy, IMRT는 오랜 치료시간 때문에 폐쇄공포증환자나 호흡불량 환자가 치료받는데 어려울 수 있다. 특히 토모테라피의 경우 치료 전에 고에너지 컴퓨터 단층촬영을 매일 실시하기 때문에 불필요한 방사선 피폭을 초래할 수 있다. 결론적으로 Tomotherapy가 선량분포에서 가장 우수한 치료기법으로 평가되었으며, IMRT, 3D-CRT의 순으로 방사선치료의 적합성을 보였다. 하지만 실제 치료시 환자의 상태에 따라 제한적으로 3차원 입체조형치료를 시행하여도 무방하다고 사료된다.

여수로 방류에 따른 여수로 바닥슬래브의 손상 발생원인 수치모의 검토 (Numerical Examinations of Damage Process on the Chuteway Slabs of Spillway under Various Flow Conditions)

  • 최근 기후변동성으로 인하여 집중호우의 발생빈도 및 강우강도 증가로 노후화된 여수로 바닥슬래브 표면에서의 손상이 발생하여 잦은 보수·보강이 필요한 실정이다. 이를 위해 현장조사, 수리모형 실험 및 수치모형 실험을 통하여 여수로 방류에 따른 손상발생 원인 검토에 관한 연구가 많이 진행되어 왔다. 그러나 대부분의 연구는 일반적으로 여수로의 흐름특성 및 압력분포에 대한 검토를 수행하였을 뿐 손상의 근본적인 발생원인 규명에 관한 연구는 미비한 실정이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 여수로 바닥슬래브 손상발생 원인을 도출하기 위해 공동침식 및 수력잭킹(hydraulic jacking)으로 인한 콘크리트 탈락관점에서 3차원 수치모형인 FLOW-3D와 COMSOL Multiphysics를 사용하여 검토하였다. 또한 공동지수를 산정하고 압력분포로 인하여 구조물이 받는 응력과 콘크리트의 인장·굽힘강도를 비교하여 공동침식 및 수력잭킹으로 인한 콘크리트 탈락 발생 가능성을 확인하였다. 수문 완전개도 조건에서 여수로 방류에 따른 공동침식 및 수력잭킹에 대하여 수치모의를 수행한 결과, 여수로 하류부에서 공동지수가 0.3 미만으로 공동침식 발생 가능성을 확인하였고, 공동부 및 균열부에서 압력분포에 따라 콘크리트가 받는 응력은 4.6~5.0 MPa로 콘크리트 인장강도와 굽힘강도와 비교를 통하여 지속적인 압력변동으로 인한 콘크리트의 피로파괴 또는 휨파괴 가능성을 확인하였다. 따라서 여수로 고유속 흐름에 의한 공동 현상 및 수력잭킹이 여수로 바닥슬래브 손상발생의 다양한 원인 중 하나로 판단하였다. 그러나 본 연구는 다양한 형상 조건 및 방류 시나리오를 적용하고 유체-구조물 상호작용(Fluid-Structure Interaction, FSI)모의를 수행하지 못하였다는 한계점이 있다. 이에 향후에는 한계점을 보완하여 검토한다면 보다 효율적이고 효과적인 여수로 유지관리 방안 도출이 가능할 것으로 기대한다.

다목적 활용을 위한 화천댐 용수공급능력 평가 연구 (Estimating the water supply capacity of Hwacheon reservoir for multi-purpose utilization)

  • 2020년 4월, 한강수계의 유효저수용량이 비교적 큰 발전용댐인 화천댐을 용수공급에 활용하기 위한 협약이 체결되었고 현재는 시범운영 중이다. 화천댐은 시범운영을 통해 우리나라 발전용댐 중 최초로 하류부 용수공급을 위해 지속적으로 일정한 유량을 공급하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 화천댐의 규모와 유입량 실적자료를 활용하여 화천댐의 용수공급량을 산정하고 용수공급능력을 평가하였다. 월단위 95% 이수안전도와 연단위 95% 이수안전도를 충족하는 용수공급량을 산정하기 위한 모의 모형과 화천댐 용수공급능력을 산정하기 위한 최적화 모형을 개발하였다. 또한, 모형의 입력자료로 사용되는 유입량 자료는 임남댐의 영향을 고려하여 두 가지 방법으로 보정하였다. 두 가지 보정 유입량을 활용하여 화천댐 용수공급량을 산정한 결과는 다음과 같다. 월단위 95% 이수안전도를 만족하는 용수공급량은 26.86 m3/sec, 24.12 m3/sec, 연단위 95% 이수안전도를 만족하는 용수공급량은 23.88 m3/sec, 22.22 m3/sec이다. 용수공급 실패 없이 화천댐에서 연간 최대 공급할 수 있는 용수공급량은 776.8 MCM이며 과거 월별 발전방류패턴을 고려하여 방류하는 경우에는 연간 704.3 MCM을 공급할 수 있다. 화천댐의 용수공급능력을 활용한 체계적인 운영이 수행된다면 한강수계 갈수기 용수공급 안정화에 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

충돌 후 화재에 대한 이방향 프리스트레스트 콘크리트 패널부재의 복합 파괴손상에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on Combined Failure Damage of Bi-directional Prestressed Concrete Panel under Impact-Fire Loading)

  • 세계적으로 충돌, 테러, 화재, 폭발 등의 극한하중에 의한 테러가 빈번하게 발생하고 있으나, 실제 극한하중에 대한 사회주요기반시설구조물의 방호 및 방재개념이 설계에 반영되고 있지 못하는 실정이다. 특히, 교량, 터널, 원전격납구조물, 가스탱크 등의 주요 시설물에 적용되고 있는 프리스트레스트 콘크리트(PSC) 구조물에 대한 극한하중 연구는 미흡한 실정이다. 또한, 테러, 폭격, 차량 및 선박 등의 충돌 사고 이후 2차적으로 발생 가능한 화재에 대한 사회적 관심 및 불안감이 고조됨에 따라, 단순한 단일 극한하중이 아닌 복합손상 시나리오에 대한 구조물의 검토가 필요하다. 그러므로, 본 연구에서는 $1,400{\times}1,000{\times}300mm$ 부재의 양방향에 430kN의 긴장력을 준 비부착 프리스트르레스트 콘크리트 패널부재를 제작하여, 충돌, 화재 하중 뿐만 아니라, 충돌 후 화재의 복합손상을 실험적으로 검토하였다. 이방향 프리스트레스트 콘크리트의 충돌저항성능은 실험조건에 맞춰 14kN의 추를 10m, 3.5m의 높이의 실험으로 구성하였으며, 화재저항성능은 5분 이내에 $1,200^{\circ}C$의 화재하중을 가할 수 있는 RABT 화재 시나리오를 적용하여 극한저항성능을 검토하였다. 또한 충돌, 화재, 충돌 후 화재에 의해 손상을 받은 PSC 및 RC 시편의 잔류구조성능을 손상 받지 않은 시편들과 비교 검토하였다. 본 실험은 향후 국내외 프리스트레스트 콘크리트에 대한 충돌 및 화재해석 및 방호설계 등 관련 연구분야의 기초자료가 될 것이라고 판단되는 바이다.

제 3기 흉선종에서 방사선치료의 역할 (Role of Radiation Therapy for Stage III Thymoma)

  • 목적 : 제 3기 흉선종에서 수술후 방사선치료의 효과를 평가하고 최적의 방사선 치료 방법을 알아보고자 함이 본 연구의 목적이다. 대상 및 방법 : 1987년 6월부터 1999년 5월까지 본원에서 제 3기 흉선종으로 진단받고 수술후 방사선치료를 시행한 24명의 환자를 후향적으로 분석하였다. 1명은 완전 절제술을 시행받았고 17명은 불완전 절제술을 나머지 6명은 조직검사만을 시행받았다. 환자의 나이는 20세부터 62세의 분포를 나타내었고 평균연령은 47세였다. 남녀의 성비는 14대 10였다. 6 또는 10 MeV 리니악을 이용하여 방사선치료를 시행하였고 종격동 및 알려진 잔여병변부위를 조사하였다. 쇄골하 림프절은 조사야에 포함되지 않았다. 조사된 총 방사선 양은 30 내지 56 Gy였으며 한명만이 30 Gy를 조사 받았고 18명은 최소한 50 Gy이상을 조사 받았다. 추적기간은 12개월 내지 8년이었고 중앙값은 40개월였다. 결과 : 전체 환자에서 전반적인 국소제어율은 5년에 $67\%$였다. 1년, 3년 밑 5년 국소재발율은 각각 $18\%,\;28\%$$33\%$였다. 불완전 절제술 및 조직검사만을 시행받은 환자에서 국소제어율은 각각 $76\%$$33\%$였다. 5년 생존율은 관찰치가 $57\%$, 조정치가 $72\%$였다. 불완전 절제술을 시행받은 환자와 조직검사만을 시행받은 환자의 5년 생존율은 각각 $62\%$$30\%$였으나 통계적으로 유의하지는 않았다. 결론 : 제 3기 흉선종환자에서 수술 후 방사선치료는 안전하고 효과적인 치료방법이라 사료된다. 수술시 절제면에 가깝거나 특히 불완전 절제를 시행받은 환자에서 수술 후 방사선치료가 도움을 주리라 생각된다.thasone점안액의 대체약물로 사용될 수 있을 것으로 평가된다.E 처리하여 얻어진 영상이 해부학적 구조를 판독하는데 도움이 죄었다. 결론 : GSE 영상의 재구성은 대조도를 증가 시킬뿐 아니라 인체내 관심부위의 농도분포를 별도로 재구성할 수 있으므로 이중방사선조사(double exposure)에 의해 발생되는 화질의 저하를 보정함으로써 화질 개선을 가능하게 하였다. Linacgram 화질 개선은 simulation image 및 치료계획에서 발생한 DRR과 multi-layer 중첩영상 분석에 사용할 수 있으며 영상 비교 시 치료부위의 신속하고 정밀한 확인을 가능하게 하였다.알 수 있었다. 시뮬레이터에서 DRR을 구현했을 때 각각의 치료 조건들에 대해 오차가 임상적용 범위 안에 있어서 이 팬톰을 이용하여 주기적인 QC/QA에 사용할 수 있음을 보였다.에서의 NOS2 mRNA의 발현을 시작으로 비교적 일관된 발현 양상을 보여 주었고 그에 따라 폐포세척액 내의 NO 및 TGF-$\beta$ 단백의 양이 변하였다. 그러나 예상과는 달리 56일 째에는 NOS2와 TGF-$\beta$가 모두 발현하여, 좀 더 많은 개체 수를 대상으로 장기간을 통해 발현 양상을 관찰할 필요성이 있으며, 이 연구를 바탕으로 NOS2 억제제를 사용하여 TGF-$\beta$의 발현 양상에 어떤 변화가 오는지에 대한 연구가 필요하다고 평가되었다.1)가 의미있는 인자로 나타났고, 재발율에 있어서는 CEA가 $\geq$5 ng/ml인 경우, SCC는 $\geq$2 ng/ml인 경우가 2$\~$3배 높은 것으로 나타났다. 결론: 방사선치료 후 Pap smear, CEA, SCC는 생존율과 재발율에 모두 비교적 의미있게 작용하는 예후인자로 나타나 앞으로 방사선치료 후 환자의 추적관찰시

MICROLEAKAGE AND WATER STABILITY OF RESIN CEMENTS

  • Statement of Problem: Recently, resin cements have become more widely used and have been accepted as prominent luting cements. Current resin cements exhibit less microleakage than conventional luting cements. However, the constant contact with water and exposure to occlusal forces increase microleakage even in resin cements inevitably. Most bonding resins have been modified to contain a hydrophilic resin such as 2-hydroxyethylmethacrylate (HEMA) to overcome some of the problems associated with the hydrophobic nature of bonding resins. By virtue of these modifications, bonding resins absorb a significant amount of water, and there may also be significant stresses at bonding interfaces, which may adversely affect the longevity of restorations. Therefore the reinforcement of water stability of resin cement is indispensable in future study. Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the influence of water retention on microleakage of two resin cements over the period of 6 months. Materials and Methods: 32 extracted human teeth were used to test the microleakage of a single full veneer crown. Two resin cements with different components and adhesive properties - Panavia F (Kuraray Co., Osaka, Japan) and Super-Bond C&B (Sun Medical Co., Kyoto, Japan)- were investigated. The storage medium was the physiological saline solution changed every week for 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months. One group was tested after storage for 1 day. At the end of the each storage period, all specimens were exposed to thermocycling from $5^{\circ}C$ to $55^{\circ}C$ of 500 cycles and chewing simulation of 50,000 cycles, and then stained with 50% silver nitrate solution. The linear penetration of microleakage was measured using a stereoscopic microscope at ${\times}40$ magnification and a digital traveling micrometer with an accuracy of ${\pm}3{\mu}m$. Values were analyzed using two-way ANOVA test, Duncan's multiple range tests (DMRT). Results : Statistically significant difference of microleakage was shown in the 3-month group compared with the1-day or 1-month group in both systems (p<0.05) and there were statistically significant differences in microleakage between the 3-month group and the 6-month group in both systems (p<0.05). The two systems showed different tendency in the course of increased microleakage during 3 months. In Panavia F, microleakage increased slowly throughout the periods. In Super-Bond C&B, there was no significant increase of microleakage for 1 month, but there was statistically significant increase of microleakage for the next 2 months. For the mean microleakage for each period, in the 3-month group, microleakage of Super-Bond C&B was significantly greater than that of Panavia F. On the other hand, in the 6-month group, microleakage of Panavia F was significantly greater than that of Super-Bond C&B (p<0.05). Conclusion: Within the limitation of this study, water retention of two different bonding systems influence microleakage of resin cements. Further studies with the longer observation periods in viro are required in order to investigate water stability and the bonding durability of the resin cement. CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS Microleakage at the Cement-tooth interfaces did not necessarily result in the failure of the crowns. But it is considered to be a major factor influening the longerity of restorations. Further clinical approaches for decreasing the amount of microleakage are required.

미세 Diatom 입자 이동에 의한 모래지반의 투수 특성 변화 (Change of Hydraulic Properties of Sand due to Fine Diatom Particle Migration)

  • 심해저 지반에서 가스하이드레이트를 추출하는 경우 diatom과 같은 미세 입자 이동으로 인하여 해저 사면파괴 및 생산성 저하가 발생할 수 있으므로, 미세 입자 이동과 동반한 해저 지반특성 변화에 대한 연구가 요구된다. 본 연구에서는, 모래 지반에 대하여 투수가 발생할 시 미세 diatom 입자 이동으로 인한 지반의 수리 특성 변화를 평가하고자 하였다. 우선 동해 울릉분지 가스하이드레이트 퇴적층을 모사하기 위하여 주문진 표준사와 diatom 혼합 시료를 부피비에 따라 15개의 시료로 조성 및 변수위 투수실험을 수행하였다. 또한 diatom 부피비 50% 및 0%인 교호층 시료의 상 하부 수압차를 3kPa, 6kPa, 9kPa로 조정하여 정수위 투수실험을 수행함으로써 미세 diatom 입자 이동을 모사하고 입자이동 구간에서의 투수계수 및 전기비저항을 측정하였다. 변수위 투수 실험 결과, diatom의 부피비가 증가할수록 시료의 투수계수가 감소하였고, 투수계수 감소 곡선은 diatom 부피비가 10% 이하일 때보다 10%~50% 구간에서 기울기가 완만해 졌으며, diatom 부피비가 50%이상일 때 다시 기울기가 증가하였다. 정수위 투수 실험 결과, diatom이 이동하여 diatom 입자 이동 구간의 투수계수는 감소하고 전기비저항은 증가하였다. 본 연구는 미세 입자 이동이 교호층 지반의 투수계수를 감소시키며, 투수계수와 전기비저항의 반비례관계를 바탕으로 미세 입자 이동으로 인한 혼합시료의 거동을 예측할 수 있음을 보여준다.

  • The wall shear stress in the vicinity of end-to end anastomoses under steady flow conditions was measured using a flush-mounted hot-film anemometer(FMHFA) probe. The experimental measurements were in good agreement with numerical results except in flow with low Reynolds numbers. The wall shear stress increased proximal to the anastomosis in flow from the Penrose tubing (simulating an artery) to the PTFE: graft. In flow from the PTFE graft to the Penrose tubing, low wall shear stress was observed distal to the anastomosis. Abnormal distributions of wall shear stress in the vicinity of the anastomosis, resulting from the compliance mismatch between the graft and the host artery, might be an important factor of ANFH formation and the graft failure. The present study suggests a correlation between regions of the low wall shear stress and the development of anastomotic neointimal fibrous hyperplasia(ANPH) in end-to-end anastomoses. 30523 T00401030523 ^x Air pressure decay(APD) rate and ultrafiltration rate(UFR) tests were performed on new and saline rinsed dialyzers as well as those roused in patients several times. C-DAK 4000 (Cordis Dow) and CF IS-11 (Baxter Travenol) reused dialyzers obtained from the dialysis clinic were used in the present study. The new dialyzers exhibited a relatively flat APD, whereas saline rinsed and reused dialyzers showed considerable amount of decay. C-DAH dialyzers had a larger APD(11.70$\pm$1.32mmHg/min)compared to CF dialyzers(4.32$\pm$0.55mmHg/min)(p<0.05). However, there was no observable difference in the UFR between the two dialyzers. Neither APD nor UFR showed any significant increase with an increasing number of reuses for up to more than 20reuses. A substantial number of failures observed in APD(larger than 20mmHe/min)on the reused dialyzers(2 out of 40 CP and S out 26 C-DAK) were attributed to the Possible damage on the fibers. The CF 15-11 HFDs which failed APD test did not show changes in the UFR compared to normal dialyzers indicating that APD is a more sensitive test than UFR test to evaluate the integrity of the fibers. 30527 T00401030527 ^x For quantitative measurement of reflected light from a clinical diagnostic strip, a prototype old reflectance photometer was designed. Under our experimental conditions, the presence of Photolfrin II increased surface temperature by at least 40% and the temperature rise due to 300 mW/cm2 irradiation exceeded values for hyperthermia. Light and temperature distributions with depth were estimated by a computer model. The purpose of this study is to identify major geometrical differences between Korean femurs 3nd others that we believe belong to Caucasians so that we would be able to get insights into the femoral component design that fits Asians including Koreans. We utilized computerized tomography (CT) images of femurs extracted from cadavers. The CT images were transformed into bitmap data by using a film scanner, and then analyzed by using a commercially available software called Image v.1.0 and a Macintosh IIci computer.The resulting data were compared with already published data. The major results show that the geometry of the Korean femurs is significantly different from that of Caucasians: (1) the anteversion angle and the canal flare index are greater by the amount of approximately 8˚ and 0.5, respectively, (2) the shape of the isthmus cross section is more round, and (3) the distance between the teaser trochanter and the proximal border of the isthmus is shelter by about 15 mm. In this paper, a new method to detect nonlinear propagation characteristics of the internal vibration in the tissue for the low frequency mechanical vibration by using bispectral analysis is proposed. In the method, low frequency vibration of f0( = 100Hz) is applied on the surface of the object, and the waveform of the internal vibration x (t) is measured from Doppler frequency modulation of silmultaneously transmitted probing ultrasonic waves. Then, the bispectra of the signal x (t) at the frequencies (f0, f0) and (f0, 2f0) are calculated to estimate the nonlinear propagation characteristics as their magnitude ratio, w here since bispectrum is free from the gaussian additive noise we can get the value with high S/N. Basic experimental system is constructed by using 3.0 MHz probing ultrasonic waves and the several experiments are carried out for some phantoms. The operating system and database management system were SCO UNIX and SCO foxbase, respectively. For program development, we used Xbase language provided by SCO foxbase. The system connected to our hospital information system via application program interface (API), so the information related to patient and request details is automatically transmitted to our computer. Our system interfaced with fwd complete blood count analyzers(Sysmex NE-8000 and Coulter STKS) for unidirectional data tansmission from analyzer to computer. The important parameters of this process are the conduction loss to laser power absorption (defined as the conduction-to-laser power parameter, Nk), the convection heat transfer at the surface to conduction loss (defined as Bi), dimensionless extinction coefficient (defined as Br.), and dimensionless irradiation time (defined as Fo). Dependence of Fo on Nk and Bi has been observed by experiment, and the results have been compared with the numerical results obtained by solving a 2-dimensional conduction equation. Fo and explosion depth (from the surface to the point of maximun temperature) are increased when Nk and Bi are increased.To find out the minimum laser power for explosive evaporative removal process, steady state analysis has been also made. Optimal stimulus parameters, which can minimize muscle fatigue and can achieve effective muscle contraction were determined in slow and fast muscles in Sprague-Dawley rats. Stimulus patterns of our stimulator were designed to simulate electromyographic activity monitored during locomotion of normal subjects. Muscle types of the lower extremity were classified according to their mechanical property of contraction, which are slow muscle (msoleus m.) and fast muscle (medial gastrocneminus m., rectus femoris m., vastus lateralis m.). Optimal parameters of electrical stimulation for slow muscles were 20 Hz, 0.2 ms square pulse. For fast muscle, 40 Hz, 0.3 ms square pulse was optimal to produce repeated contraction. Higher stimulus intensity was required when synergistic muscles were stimulated simultaneously than when they were stimulated individually. Electrical stimulation for each muscle was designed to generate bipedal locomotion, so that individual muscles alternate contraction and relaxation to simulate stance and swing phases. Portable electrical stimulator with 16 channels built in microprocessor was constructed and applied to paraplegic patients due to lumbar cord injury.
