Mobile wireless networks have received a lot of attention as a future wireless network due to its rapid deployment without communication infrastructure. In these networks communication path between two arbitrary nodes break down because some links in the path are beyond transmission range($r_0$) due to the mobility of the nodes. The set of total path break down time(${\bigcup}T_i$), which is the union of path break down time of every node pair, can be a good measure of the connectivity of the dynamic mobile wireless network. In this paper we show that the distribution of the total path break down time can be approximated as a exponential probability density function and confirms it through experimental data. Statistical knowledge of break down time enables quantitative prediction of delay, packet loss between two nodes, thus provides confidence in the simulation results of mobile wireless networks.

Mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) are composed of moving wireless hosts which, within range of each other, form wireless networks. For communication to occur between hosts that are not within each other's range, routes involving intermediate nodes must be established; however, since the hosts may be in motion, a host that was part of a route may move away from its upstream and downstream partners, thus breaking the route. In this paper, we propose anticipated route maintenance (ARM) protocol with two extensions to route discovery based routing scheme: Extend the route when nodes on a link move apart from each other and they have common neighbor that can be 'inserted' in the path, and shrink route when a node discovers that one of its neighbor which is not the next hop is also on the same route several hops later on. By utilizing only local geographic information (now a part of some route finding algorithms), a host can anticipate its neighbor's departure and, if other hosts are available, choose a host to bridge the gap, keeping the path connected. We present a distributed algorithm that anticipates route failure and performs preventative route maintenance using location information to increase a route lifespan. The benefits are that this reduces the need to find new routes (which is very expensive) and prevents interruptions in service. As the density of nodes increases, the chance to successfully utilize our route maintenance approach increases, and so does the savings. We have compared the performance of two protocols, pure dynamic source routing (DSR) protocol and DSR with ARM. The simulation results show how ARM improves the functionality of DSR by preventing the links in the route from breaking. Packets delivery ratio could be increased using ARM and achieved approximately $\100%$ improvement. The simulations clarify also how ARM shows a noticeable improvement in dropped packets and links stability over DSR, even though there is more traffic and channel overhead in ARM.

In this paper, a modified sum-product algorithm to correct bit errors captured within the trapping sets, which are produced in decoding of low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes, is proposed. Unlike the original sum-product algorithm, the proposed decoding method consists of two stages. Whether the main cause of decoding failure is the trapping sets or not is determined at the first stage. And the bit errors within the trapping sets are corrected at the second stage. In the modified algorithm, the set of failed check nodes and the transition patterns of hard-decision bits are exploited to search variable nodes in the trapping sets. After inverting information of the variable nodes, the sum-product algorithm is carried out to correct the bit errors. As a result of simulation, the proposed algorithm shows continuously improved error performance with increase in the signal-to-noise ratio. It is, therefore, considered that the modified sum-product algorithm significantly reduces or possibly eliminates the error floor in LDPC codes.

Military communications for future warfare have limited resources but highly requirements. MANET has a lot of advantages for future military network due to easily deploying without infrastructure and supporting dynamic topology in restricted environments. But, one of the biggest issues for MANET is difficulty of transmitting data due to link failure in dynamic topology. Content Centric Networking is a future Internet paradigm which solves various IP network problem. In this paper, we propose a future military communication routing scheme using CCN in military tactical MANET. Simulation results show our scheme gets lower control message overhead and faster data downloads as number of node increases and mobile speed increases than other two schemes.
In this paper, we propose an efficient deinterlacing algorithm which interpolates the missing scan lines by weighted summing of the intra and the inter interpolation pixels according to the spatio-temporal variation. In the spatial interpolation, we adopt a new edge based spatial interpolation method which includes edge directional refinement. The conventional edge dependent interpolation algorithms are very sensitive to noise due to the failure of estimating edge direction. In order to exactly detect edge direction, our method first finds the edge directions around the pixel to be interpolated and then refines edge direction of the pixel using weighted maximun frequent filter. Futhermore, we improve the accuracy of motion detection by reducing the possibility of motion detection error using 3 tab median filter. In the final interpolation step, we adopt weighted sum of intra and inter interpolation pixels according to spatio-temporal variation ratio, thereby improving the quality in slow moving area. Simulation results show the efficacy of the proposed method with significant improvement over the previous methods in terms of the objective PSNR quality as well as the subjective image quality.
This paper highlights a case study that investigates the behaviour of existing bridge, West Terrace Bridge, induced by horizontal seismic loading. Unfortunately the lack of past information related to seismic activity within the NSW region has made it difficult to understand better the capacity of the structure if Earthquake occurs. The research was conducted through the University of Western Sydney in conjunction with Railcorp Australia, as part of disaster reduction preparedness program. The focus of seismic analyses was on the assessment of stress behaviour, induced by cyclic horizontal/vertical displacements, within the concrete slab and steel truss of the bridge under various Earthquake Year Return Intervals (YRI) of 1-100, 1-200, 1-250, 1-500, 1-800, 1-1000, 1-1500, 1-2000 and 1-2500. Furthermore the stresses and displacements were rigorously analysed through a parametric study conducted using different boundary conditions. The numerical analysis of the concrete slab and steel truss were performed through the finite element software, ABAQUS. The field measurements and observation had been used to validate the results drawn from the finite element simulation. It was illustrated that under a YRI of 1/1000 the bottom chord of the steel truss failed as the stress induced surpassed the ultimate stress capacity and the horizontal displacement exceeded the allowable displacement measured in the field observations whereas the vertical displacement remained within the previously observed limitations. Furthermore the parametric studies in this paper demonstrate that a change in boundary conditions alleviated the stress distribution throughout the structure allowing it to withstand a greater load induced by the earthquake YRI but ultimately failed when the maximum earthquake loading was applied. Therefore it was recommended to provide a gap of 50mm on the end of the concrete slab to allow the structure to displace without increasing the stress in the structure. Finally, this study has proposed a design chart to showcase the failure mode of the bridge when subjected to seismic loading.
In order to consider high-order effects on the actual limit state function, a new response surface method is proposed for structural reliability analysis by the use of high-order approximation concept in this study. Hermite polynomials are used to determine the highest orders of input random variables, and the sampling points for the determination of highest orders are located on Gaussian points of Gauss-Hermite integration. The cross terms between two random variables, only in case that their corresponding percent contributions to the total variation of limit state function are significant, will be added to the response surface function to improve the approximation accuracy. As a result, significant reduction in computational cost is achieved with this strategy. Due to the addition of cross terms, the additional sampling points, laid on two-dimensional Gaussian points off axis on the plane of two significant variables, are required to determine the coefficients of the approximated limit state function. All available sampling points are employed to construct the final response surface function. Then, Monte Carlo Simulation is carried out on the final approximation response surface function to estimate the failure probability. Due to the use of high order polynomial, the proposed method is more accurate than the traditional second-order or linear response surface method. It also provides much more efficient solutions than the available high-order response surface method with less loss in accuracy. The efficiency and the accuracy of the proposed method compared with those of various response surface methods available are illustrated by five numerical examples.

A perforated shear connector group is commonly used to transfer shear in steel-concrete composite structures when the traditional shear stud connection is not strong enough. The multi-hole perforated shear connector demonstrates a more complicated behavior than the single connector. The internal force distribution in a specific multi-hole perforated shear connector group has not been thoroughly studied. This study focuses on the load-carrying capacity and shear force distribution of multi-hole perforated shear connectors in steel-concrete composite structures. ANSYS is used to develop a three-dimensional finite element model to simulate the behavior of multi-hole perforated connectors. Material and geometric nonlinearities are considered in the model to identify the failure modes, ultimate strength, and load-slip behavior of the connection. A three-layer model is introduced and a closed-form solution for the shear force distribution is developed to facilitate design calculations. The shear force distribution curve of the multi-hole shear connector is catenary, and the efficiency coefficient must be considered in different limit states.
Recently, the transportation of dangerous explosive goods is increasing, which makes vehicle blasting accidents a potential threat for the safety of bridge structures. In addition, blasting accidents happen more easily when earthquake occurs. Excessive dynamic response of bridges under extreme loads may cause local member damage, serviceability issues, or even failure of the whole structure. In this paper, a new explosion-proof and aseismic system is proposed including cable support damping bearing and steel-fiber reinforced concrete based on the existing researches. Then, considering one 40m-span simply supported concrete T-bridge as the prototype, through scale model test and numerical simulation, the dynamic response of the bridge under three conditions including only earthquake, only blast load and the combination of the two extreme loads is obtained and the applicability of this explosion-proof and aseismic system is explored. Results of the study show that this explosion-proof and aseismic system has good adaptability to seism and blast load at different level. The reducing vibration isolation efficiency of cable support damping bearing is pretty high. Increasing cables does not affect the good shock-absorption performance of the original bearing. The new system is good at shock absorption and displacement limitation. It works well in reducing the vertical dynamic response of beam body, and could limit the relative displacement between main girder and capping beam in different orientation so as to solve the problem of beam falling. The study also shows that the enhancement of steel fibers in concrete could significantly improve the blast resistance of main beam. Results of this paper can be used in the process of antiknock design, and provide strong theoretical basis for comprehensive protection and support of girder bridges.

This paper reviews the current development of an ultra-slim SiP for Radio Frequency (RF) application, in which three flip chips, additional passive components and Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) filters are integrated side-by-side. A systematic investigation is carried out for the design optimization, process and reliability improvement of the package, which comprises several aspects: a design study based on the 3D thermo-mechanical finite element analysis of the packaging, the determination of stress, warpage distribution, critical failure zones, and the figuration of the effects of material properties, process conditions on the reliability of package. The optimized material sets for manufacturing process were determined which can reduce the number of testing samples from 75 to 2. In addition the molded underfilling (MUF) process is proposed which not only saves one manufacturing process, but also improves the thermo-mechanical performance of the package compared with conventional epoxy underfilling process. In the end, JEDEC's moisture sensitivity test, thermal cycle test and pressure cooker tests have also been carried out for reliability evaluation. The test results show that the optimized ultra-slim SiP has a good reliability performance.
