  • In this paper, we introduce new FTL(Flash Translation Layer) driver algorithm that tolerate the power off errors. FTL driver is the software that provide the block device interface to the upper layer software such as file systems or application programs that using the flash memory as a block device interfaced storage. Usually, the flash memory is used as the storage devices of the mobile system due to its low power consumption and small form factor. In mobile system, the state of the power supplement is not stable, because it using the small sized battery that has limited capacity. So, a sudden power off failure can be occurred when we read or write the data on the flash memory. During the write operation, power off failure may introduce the incomplete write operation. Incomplete write operation denotes the inconsistency of the data in flash memory. To provide the stable storage facility with flash memory in mobile system, FTL should provide the fault tolerance against the power off failure. SSR (Simple Sector Remapper) is a fault tolerant FTL driver that provides block device interface and also provides tolerance against power off errors.

  • Pacemaker malfunctions are secondary to alterations of the preset pacing rate, irregular pacing failure of sensing, failure of cardiac capture or depolarization, and various combinations of these events. A 76 years old male patient was admitted due to pacemaker malfunction. 2 years ago, he was diagnosed as complete atrioventricular block. And then bipolar permanent pacemaker was implanted. Since then syncopal attack developed repetitivly. 12 lead ECG and 24 hour holter moniter monitoring, revealed pacing and sensing failure, thus we converted bipolar system into unipolar system. Since then syncopal attack did not developed again.

  • We consider a life testing experiment in which several two component shared parallel system are put on test, and the test is terminated at a specified number of system failures. The bivariate data obtained from such a system level life testing can be classified into three classes: (1) the case of failed two components with known failure times, (2) the case of one censored component and the other failed component of which the failure time might be known or unknown, (3) the case of censored two components. In this thesis, the maximum likelihood estimators of parameters for Block and Basu bivariate exponential distribution under above censoring scheme are obtained. And the results of comparative studies are presented.

  • In this paper, as the first step to assess and enhance the reliability of Korea High Speed Train, an electric traction system is selected and reliability analysis is carried out. The electric traction system is classified into subsystems and functional block diagrams and reliability block diagrams are drawn. Expressions for evaluating the reliability are derived and Mean Kilometer Between Service Failure is calculated using the trial track test results. The calculation results show reliability growth of the proposed system.

  • Successful local anesthesia in dental treatment is the most important prerequisite for pain control of patients. However, unlike that in the maxilla, it is difficult to administer local anesthesia in the mandible, and the success rate of conventional inferior alveolar nerve block (IANB) is only 80-85%. It is attributed to various causes such as anatomical variations, extreme anxiety, and technical errors; thus, various alternatives have been devised to improve this. We will analyze the causes of failure in conventional IANB and examine various alternatives that can be applied in these cases.

  • We developed the platform safety step system for the passenger to avoid misstep accident and secure the pedestrian safety. In this study, we classify platform safety step system into hierarchy system and predict the failure rate of each part and calculate the failure rate & MTBF(Mean Time Between Failure) of each module(sub-system) by means of RBD(Reliability Block Diagram) & FTA(Fault Tree Analysis). Finally, we will propose the reliability analysis results for RAMS analysis of platform safety step system.

  • Determination of the mechanical behaviour of jointed rock masses has been a challenge for rock engineers for decades. This problem is more pronounced for non-persistent jointed rock masses due to complicated interaction of rock bridges on the overall behaviour. This paper aims to study the effect of a non-persistent joint set configuration on the mechanical behaviour of rock materials under both uniaxial and biaxial compression tests using a discrete element code. The numerical simulation of biaxial compressive strength of rock masses has been challenging in the past due to shortcomings of bonded particle models in reproducing the failure envelope of rock materials. This problem was resolved in this study by employing the flat-joint contact model. The validity of the numerical model was investigated through a comprehensive comparative study against physical uniaxial and biaxial compression experiments. Good agreement was found between numerical and experimental tests in terms of the recorded peak strength and the failure mode in both loading conditions. Studies on the effect of joint orientation on the failure mode showed that four zones of intact, transition to block rotation, block rotation and transition to intact failure occurs when the joint dip angle varies from 0° to 90°. It was found that the applied confining stress can significantly alter the range of these zones. It was observed that the minimum strength occurs at the joint dip angle of around 45 degrees under different confining stresses. It was also found that the joint orientation can alter the post peak behaviour and the lowest brittleness was observed at the block rotation zone.

  • Background: Recurrent anterior shoulder dislocation (RASD) in cases of seizure disorders (SDs) total 50%-80% of all SD-associated shoulder instabilities. Based on the extent of bone loss, treatment options include bony and soft-tissue reconstructions, arthroplasty, and arthrodesis. The primary objective of this paper was to review the treatment options for RASD in SDs. Methods: Several bibliographic databases were searched for RASD treatment options in SD patients. The demographic outcome measures, the failure rate (defined as the relative risk of recurrence of dislocation postoperation), and the postoperative seizure recurrence rate were recorded. Results: We pooled 171 cases (187 shoulders) from 11 studies. Of these, one, five, two, two, and one reports studied Bankart's operation with remplissage (27 cases/29 shoulders), the Latarjet procedure (106/118), bone block operation (21/23), arthroplasty (11/11), and arthrodesis (6/6), respectively, in treating SD-associated RASD. The relative risk of failure between SD and non-SD patients was 3.76 (1.36-10.38) after the Latarjet operation. The failure rates were 17% and 13% for Bankart's operation with remplissage and the Latarjet procedure in SD patients, respectively, but 0% each for bone block operation, arthroplasty, and arthrodesis. The total rate of seizure recurrence after operation was 33% of the pooled cases. Conclusions: SD recurrence in the postoperative period, the size of the bone block, and the muscular attachments to a small coracoid autograft are the determinants of failure among various reconstructive operations in SD-associated RASD.

  • Block-glued glulam is a structural material that can be used as a construction member of a large-section wooden building, which is produced by edgewise bonding of two or more glulam beam elements. The edgewise bonding performance of the block-glued glulam was examined through delamination test and block shear strength test. According to the test results, the block-glued glulam that was manufactured with 1.5 MPa of compressive pressure after applying $500g/m^2$ of Resorcinol adhesive showed the best edgewise bonding performance. The block-glued glulam produced in a good edgewise bonding condition was compared with a control glulam with the same section modulus for bending strength performance. The modulus of elasticity (MOE) in bending was similar to that of the control glulam. The modulus of rupture (MOR) of the block-glued glulam was higher by 27% than that of the control glulam. No interfacial failure or cohesive failure were observed in the edgewise bonding layer.
