Design and fabrication of beam dumps at the µSR facility of RAON for high-energy proton absorption

  • The Rare isotope Accelerator complex for ON-line experiments in Korea houses several accelerator complexes. Among them, the µSR facility will be initially equipped with a 600 MeV and 100 kW proton beam to generate surface muons, and will be upgraded to 400 kW with the same energy. Accelerated proton beams lose approximately 20% of the power at the target, and the remaining power is concentrated in the beam direction. Therefore, to ensure safe operation of the facility, concentrated protons must be distributed and absorbed at the beam dump. Additionally, effective dose levels must be lower than the legal standard, and the beam dumps used at 100 kW should be reused at 400 kW to minimize the generation of radioactive waste. In this study, we introduce a tailored method for designing beam dumps based on the characteristics of the µSR facility. To optimize the geometry, the absorbed power and effective dose were calculated using the MCNP6 code. The temperature and stress were determined using the ANSYS Mechanical code. Thus, the beam dump design consists of six structures when operated at 100 kW, and a 400 kW beam dump consisting of 24 structures was developed by reusing the 100 kW beam dump.

  • Facility Management (FM) is a project phase to maintenance and to increase the qualities of product which is planned on the design phase and ensured on the construction phase. In addition, since the approximate time occupied in operation and maintenance phase is the longest from construction project as total approximate cost is about 85% of whole the project, it could be managed and realized primarily. The information of facility is not created on the specific point of project, but it might be created on the whole process of subject project widely. Thus, as the information could not be lost and it can be delivered into computer aided facility management system, it is necessary to manage the facility information. This paper proposed the necessities and the problems of BIM-based data interoperability on the Korean construction projects.

생태계 제어 시설물의 설계 및 배치 최적화(1) -연승식 양식시설의 계류력 특성 및 동요저감에 관한 연구- (Structural and Layout Design Optimization of Ecosystem Control Structures(1) -Characteristics of Mooring Force and Motion Control of the Longline Type Scallop Culturing Facility-)

  • To develop the optimal design method for the longline type scallop culturing facilities in the open sea numerical calculations and hydraulic model experiments are carried out for the stability and function optimization. Using the results for the motion and tension of the facilities, stable design concepts and effects of motion control system by vertical anchor and resistance discs art discussed. The results of this study that can be applied to the design are as follows: 1) Total external forces by design wave $(H_{1/3}\;=\;6,7\;m,\;T_{1/3}\;=\;12sec)$ at the coastal waters of Jumunjin for unit facility (one main line) are estimated to 5-20 tons, and required anchor weights are 10-40 tons in the case of 2-point mooring system. Though the present facilities are stable to steady currents, but is unstable to the extreme wave condition of return period of 10 years. 2) The dimensions and depth of array systems must be designed considering the ecological environments as well as the physical characteristics including the mooring and holding forces that are proportional to the length and relative depth of main line to wave length, and the number of buoys and nets. 3) Oscillation of the facility is influenced by water particle motion and the weight of hanging net, and is excited at both edge, especially at the lee side. To reduce the motion of the nets, the vertical anchoring system and the resistence disc method are recommended by the experimental results, 4) The damage of rope near the anchor by abrasion should be prevented using the ring-type connection parts or anchor chains.

  • 환경오염이 심각해지면서 자연재해가 빈번해지고 그 피해도 증가하고 있다. 또한 인구 과밀화로 사회적 재난도 빈번해지며 지역과 범위, 피해가 다양해서 예측이 어렵다. 재해가 다양해지고 피해규모도 커지면서 재해 시 이재민의 규모와 대피기간이 다양해졌다. 주거를 상실한 이재민에게 2차 피해로부터 보호받을 시설을 신속하게 제공해야 한다. 이에 조립식 주택을 지원하고 있지만 보급이 어렵다는 단점이 있다. 본 연구에서는 대피시설의 수용능력이 부족하거나 대피시설이 미비할 때 신속한 보급이 가능한 실외용 임시주거시설을 계획하는 것이 최종 목표이다.

현장 조사를 통한 신농촌의 축산농장 모형의 개발 연구 (A Proposal on Livestock Farmstead Planning Design by the Field Survey Results)

  • The actual condition of farmstead, mainly livestock facility, was surveyed in ChungChongBukDo in order to find out factors and problems of farmstead planning design. From the data collected, a type, plot, size and scope of farmstead, relationship of house and farmstead, topography, climate, proprietor's opinion on them were analyzed or obtained as the basic design criteria for planning: designs. The best type of farmsteads was individual farm having livestock facilities. They were mostly breeding a kind of livestock without their plan and Bone planning at residing area. The south aspect of the facility was extremely much and slope of the land was mostly 15。 below. Wind blows from East-South in summer and winter wind are West-North extremely much. Sun heat was mostly above 6 hours. In the case of collective and composite farmstead, proprietors wanted that a head of cow has 1,000-3,000 pyeong, the area of facility has 1,500-2,000 pyeong, total area of farmstead has 45,000-400,000 pyeong and an estimated expense is 0.2 - 1.5 billion won. Farmstead planning design was proposed through field survey results and contents of'references. Examples of farmstead planning design were composite and concentrated type and existed according to the situation of road(North, South, East, and West).

  • 모바일 시설물 관리 시스템은 시설물 데이터에 대한 이동 관리를 지원하여 현장에서 발생하는 다양한 정보를 실시간으로 수집, 갱신할 수 있게 하지만, 해당 지역의 다수 작업자간의 동시 작업으로 인해 데이터의 불일치성이 발생할 수 있으며, 또한 다른 작업자의 갱신 내용을 실시간으로 반영하기 어렵다는 단점을 가지고 있다. 또한 시설물 데이터에 대한 작업 이력은 시설물 관리 시스템에서 매우 중요한 의사 결정 정보로 시스템에서 영속적으로 관리할 필요가 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 기존의 버전 관리 기법을 이용하여 다른 동시 작업자와 서버에게 효율적으로 데이터를 동기화할 수 있으며, 작업자의 작업 내역을 영속적으로 관리할 수 있는 모바일 시설물 관리시스템을 구현한다.

  • Current improvements on the standard of living reduced working hours and increased leisure time. Therefore, people's ideas on life style changed and different demands on residential environment are being made. Residents of apartment want a community facility that enables constant exchange with other residents and supports living. Ideas on how to use physical space to strengthen a community is becoming an issue these days. Community facility plays a crucial role in giving a certain characteristic to the whole apartment and improving the image as a community. It also provides a physical environment and induces active participation of community life from apartment residents. The community facility in an important environment for children, which helps them develop in growth and in society as well. Community facility is a space where children fulfill their curiosity and amusement. Since children are greatly influenced by the physical surroundings, community facility for children should not remain as a space for fun but should change into a space for interaction. This study chose six apartments at Dongtan New Town, located in Hwaseong, Kyunggido. This study focuses on the characteristics of design for children's community facility and would like to make a proposal about future space planning for children's community facility.

  • During the cut and dismantling process of HANARO irradiated instrumented capsule(03M-06U), a little different phenomenon like a jamming was observed and occurred. So to release jamming between outer pipe and inner thermal media, the outer pipe will be cut piece by piece by capsule cutting machine installed in M2 hot cell until the outer pipe was eliminated or reduced as we could. It is assumed that this kind of problem was occurred following reasons: 1) This capsule has probably a problem during manufacturing process at shop before irradiation. 2) The gap between outer pipe and thermal media is not enough to meet design criteria for thermal expansion during irradiation at HANARO

Numerical Simulation of Rainfall Infiltration Into Disposal Cover of Performance Test Facility

  • Disposal cover as an engineered barrier of a near-surface disposal facility for low and very low-level radioactive waste is composed of a multi-layer to isolate radioactive waste from environmental influences for the long term. To acquire a realistic forecast for the post-closure period of the disposal facility, it is essential to carry out long-term experimental research in a similar condition to the actual disposal environment. Hence, a performance test facility of the disposal cover was constructed in Gyeongju low and intermediate level radioactive waste disposal center in 2022. The constructed performance test facility has differences from the material properties presented in the design. These differences are factors that affect the prevent rainfall infiltration, which is one of the important roles of the disposal cover. Therefore, in this study, a numerical simulation of rainfall infiltration into the performance test facility was performed for the designed case and the actual constructed case. To simulate the behavior of water infiltration, the FEFLOW software based on the finite element method is used. Through the analysis of numerical simulation results, it is confirmed that the hydraulic conductivity of the material constituting the multi-layer of the disposal cover greatly influences the amount of water infiltration.

무균돼지 사육시설 계획을 위한 사례연구 - 공간구성 및 동선계획을 중심으로 - (A Case Study on Swine Farms for the Planning of Gnotobiotic Pigs' Facility - Focused on Space Organization and Circulation System -)

  • According to the increase of demand for human organs such as kidney, heart, pancreas, joint, and cornea for therapeutic transplantation, the production of alternative organs based on Gnotobiotic Pigs gains a lot of concerns all over the world. However, it is not common to design and build Gnotobiotic Pigs' facility, and there are only a few those facilities and planning principles for them. Considering the situation above, this paper tries to develop planning guidelines for space organization and circulation system of standardized Germ Free Pig's facility on the bases of case analysis. The results of this study are as follows. At first, four swine farms including a Gntobiotic Pig's facility has been analysed from the point of space organization and circulation system. Secondly, the space zoning of Gnotobiotic Pigs' facility has been proposed into 5 groups : pigs' area, adminstration area, operating room and laboratory, service area, and mechanical area. Space components of each group have been presented also. Finally, circulation system of Gnotobiotic Pigs' facility has been explored from a operational point of view. This, also, includes human circulation, pig's circulation, and goods' circulation. This study has some limitations because it does not consider the SOPs(standard operational policies) of that facility to the fullest measure and does not suggest space area of each part, either. Despite of some weaknesses, it is expected that this study can give some useful guidelines for the design and planning of Germ Free Pigs' facilities.
