In this paper, we fabricated a low-cost glucose sensor with a simpler structure and fabrication process than the existing glucose sensor. The currently used glucose sensor has a three-layer structure with upper, middle, and bottom plates; here, we fabricated a single-layer glucose sensor using only a printing and dispensing process. We successfully fabricated the glucose sensor using a simple method involving the formation of an electrode and insulator layer through a 2- or 3-step printing process on plastic or paper film, followed by the dispensing of glucose oxidase solution on the electrode. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) and cyclic amperometry (CA) measurements were used to evaluate the characteristics of the fabricated single-layer glucose sensor. Also, its sensitivity was analyzed through glucose-controlled blood measurements. Hence, a low-cost single-layer glucose sensor was fabricated with evaluation of its characteristics demonstrating that it has useful application in medicine.
PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to compare the fit of cast gold crowns fabricated from the conventional and the digital impression technique. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Artificial tooth in a master model and abutment teeth in ten patients were restored with cast gold crowns fabricated from the digital and the conventional impression technique. The forty silicone replicas were cut in three sections; each section was evaluated in nine points. The measurement was carried out by using a measuring microscope and I-Soultion. Data from the silicone replica were analyzed and all tests were performed with ${\alpha}$-level of 0.05. RESULTS. 1. The average gaps of cast gold crowns fabricated from the digital impression technique were larger than those of the conventional impression technique significantly. 2. In marginal and internal axial gap of cast gold crowns, no statistical differences were found between the two impression techniques. 3. The internal occlusal gaps of cast gold crowns fabricated from the digital impression technique were larger than those of the conventional impression technique significantly. CONCLUSION. Both prostheses presented clinically acceptable results with comparing the fit. The prostheses fabricated from the digital impression technique showed more gaps, in respect of occlusal surface.
In this study, Si-SiC composites were fabricated using a Si melt infiltration method using ${\beta}$-SiC/C composite powders synthesized by the carbothermal reduction of $SiO_2-C$ precursors made from a TEOS and a phenol resin. The purity of the synthesized SiC-C composite powders was higher than 99.9993 wt% and the average particle size varied from 4 to $6{\mu}m$ with increasing carbon contents of the $SiO_2-C$ precursors. It was found that the Si-SiC composites fabricated in this study consist of ${\beta}$-SiC and residual Si, without any trace of ${\alpha}$-SiC. The 3-point bending strengths of the fabricated Si-SiC composites were measured and found to be higher than 550 MPa, although the density of the fabricated Si-SiC composite was less than $2.9g/cm^3$. The bending strengths and the densities of the fabricated Si-SiC composites were found to decrease with increasing C/Si mole ratios in the SiC-C composite powders. The specific resistivities of the Si-SiC composites fabricated using the SiC-C composite powders were less than $0.018{\Omega}cm$. With increasing C content in the SiC-C composite powders used for the fabrication of Si-SiC composites, the specific resistivity of the Si-SiC composites was found to slightly increase from 0.0157 to $0.018{\Omega}cm$.
PURPOSE. The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the marginal misfits of three-unit frameworks fabricated with conventional and digital impressions techniques. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Thirty brass canine and second premolar abutment preparations were fabricated by using a computer numerical control machine and were randomly divided into 3 groups (n=10) as follows: conventional impression group (Group Ci), Cerec Omnicam (Group Cdi), and 3shape TRIOS-3 (Group Tdi) digital impression groups. The laser-sintered metal frameworks were designed and fabricated with conventional and digital impressions. The marginal adaptation was assessed with a stereomicroscope at ${\times}30$ magnification. The data were analyzed with 1-way analysis of variances (ANOVAs) and the independent simple t tests. RESULTS. A statistically significant difference was found between the frameworks fabricated by conventional methods and those fabricated by digital impression methods. Multiple comparison results revealed that the frameworks in Group Ci (average, $98.8{\pm}16.43{\mu}m$; canine, $93.59{\pm}16.82{\mu}m$; premolar, $104.10{\pm}15.02{\mu}m$) had larger marginal misfit values than those in Group Cdi (average, $63.78{\pm}14.05{\mu}m$; canine, $62.73{\pm}13.71{\mu}m$; premolar, $64.84{\pm}15.06{\mu}m$) and Group Tdi (average, $65.14{\pm}18.05{\mu}m$; canine, $70.64{\pm}19.02{\mu}m$; premolar, $59.64{\pm}16.10{\mu}m$) (P=.000 for average; P=.001 for canine; P<.001 for premolar). No statistical difference was found between the marginal misfits of canine and premolar abutment teeth within the same groups (P>.05). CONCLUSION. The three-unit frameworks fabricated with digital impression techniques showed better marginal fit compared to conventional impression techniques. All marginal misfit values were clinically acceptable.

PURPOSE. The present study was designed to examine the clinical fit of fixed dental prosthesis fabricated by the milling-sintering method using a presintered cobalt-chromium alloy. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Two single metal-ceramic crowns were fabricated via milling-sintering method and casting method in each of the twelve consecutive patients who required an implant-supported fixed prosthesis. In the milling-sintering method, the prosthetic coping was designed in computer software, and the design was converted to a non-precious alloy coping using milling and post-sintering process. In the casting method, the conventional manual fabrication process was applied. The absolute marginal discrepancy of the prostheses was evaluated intraorally using the triple-scan technique. Statistical analysis was conducted using Mann-Whitney U test (${\alpha}=.05$). RESULTS. Eight patients (66.7%) showed a lower marginal discrepancy of the prostheses made using the milling-sintering method than that of the prosthesis made by the casting method. Statistically, the misfit of the prosthesis fabricated using the milling-sintering method was not significantly different from that fabricated using the casting method (P=.782). There was no tendency between the amount of marginal discrepancy and the measurement point. CONCLUSION. The overall marginal fit of prosthesis fabricated by milling-sintering using a presintered alloy was comparable to that of the prosthesis fabricated by the conventional casting method in clinical use.
In this study, we fabricated the DAMLs using surface micromachining technology as well a low loss coupler for the millimeter-wave band applications using these DAMLs. The structure of DAML is that a signal line is supported on ground plane by dielectric posts. Therefore it has advantages about the loss characteristic and the stable structure. The other advantage of the DAML process is a simple and convenient technique using 4 mask steps, even if it has a micromachining technology. The lowest loss of the fabricated DAML was obtained 2.2 dB/cm at 110 GHz. To obtain the low loss characteristic, couplers were designed and fabricated by using DAMLs. The fabricated ring hybrid coupler has the coupling of 3.58 dB and the thru of 3.31 dB at 60 GHz. We can also obtain the coupling of 3.42 dB, the thru of 3.82 dB from fabricated branch line coupler at 60 GHz.
A new planar-type microsensor, which had a platinum heater and a sensing layer on the same plane was fabricated on silicon substrate with stress-relieved PSG(phosphosilicate glass)/$Si_{3}N_{4}$(800nm/150nm) diaphragm. The proposed planar-type microsensor could be fabricated by simple silicon process using only 3 masks for photolithography process compared with 5 or 6 masks of the typical micro-gas sensor. The thermal properties of the microsensor from thermal simulation were compared with those of the fabricated microheater. Although there are some discrepancy between the simulation result and the result from the fabricated microheater, the thermal simulation by FEM was proved to be an useful method to evaluate the thermal properties of microheater. The sensing characteristics of the fabricated microsensor with the planar-type heater were investigated also.
A simple method for the fabrication of 3D micro-nano hybrid patterns was presented. In conventional fabrication methods of the micro-nano hybrid patterns, micro-patterns were firstly fabricated and then nano-patterns were formatted on the micro-patterns. Moreover, these micro-nano hybrid patterns could be fabricated on the flat substrate. In this paper, we suggested the fabrication method of 3D micro-nano hybrid patterns using micro-indentation on the anodized aluminum substrate. Since diameter of the hemispherical nano-pattern can be controlled by electrolyte and applied voltage in the anodizing process, we can easily fabricated nano-patterns of diameter of loom to 300nm. Nano-patterns were firstly formatted on the aluminum substrate, and then micro-patterns were fabricated by deforming the nano-patterned aluminum substrate. Hemispherical nano-patterns of diameter of 150nm were fabricated by anodizing process, and then micro-pyramid patterns of the side-length of $50{\mu}m$ were formatted on the nano-patterns using micro-indentation. Finally we successfully replicated 3D micro-nano hybrid patterns by hot-embossing process. 3D micro-nano hybrid patterns can be applied to nano-photonic device and nano-biochip application.

We designed and fabricated a low local oscillation (LO) power V-band CPW mixer module using a CPW-to-waveguide transition technology for the application of millimeter-wave wireless communication systems. The mixer was designed using a unique gate mixing architecture to achieve simultaneously a low LO input power, a high conversion gain, and good LO-RF isolation characteristics. The fabricated mixer exhibited a high conversion gain of 2 dB at a low LO power of 0 dBm. For data transmission of the 60 ㎓ wireless LNA systems, we fabricated a CPW-to-waveguide converter module of WR-15 type and mounted the fabricated mixer in the converter module. The fabricated V-band mixer exhibited a higher conversion gain and a lower LO input power than other reported V-band mixers.
Diffraction gratings with precise spatial periods of 2 ${\mu}m$ and 5 ${\mu}m$ have been fabricated by using a femtosecond laser which does not have limits on materials of micromachining and small thermal effects due to high peak power. Diffraction angle and diffraction efficiency of those were measured. Simulation results of diffraction angle and diffraction efficiency of the diffraction grating calculated with the parameters such as line width, depth, and spatial period of the fabricated gratings were compared with experimental results measured with a He-Ne laser. Besides these, Fresnel Zone Plates (FZPs) with focal distances of 50 mm and 25 mm were fabricated and focal distances of fabricated FZP were measured. Those experimental results for diffraction gratings and FZPs match well with experimental results.
