A Novel Water Surface Detection Method Based on Correlation Analysis for Rectangular Control Area (직사각형 검사영역의 상관도 분석을 통한 수면위치 탐색 방법)

  • In this study, a novel water surface detection method was proposed. In the method water surface is detected by analysis on correlation coefficients obtained from rectangular control areas of the same vertical position in two successive images including both water surface and staff gauge. Four methods respectively based on threshold, peak, slope and variance ratio, are used to identify water surface from vertical distribution of correlation coefficient. In addition, swaying correction algorithm and statistical filtering are applied to minimize outliers caused by positional image mismatch. Images taken from 28 different sites during low flow were tested to evaluate the method. Mean relative error to eye measurement was approximately from 3.4 to 5.7 cm. As long as water surface moves, this method can be used to improve image stage gauge by supplementing the previous water surface detection method.

Terrain Shadow Detection in Satellite Images of the Korean Peninsula Using a Hill-Shade Algorithm (음영기복 알고리즘을 활용한 한반도 촬영 위성영상에서의 지형그림자 탐지)

  • In recent years, the number of users has been increasing with the rapid development of earth observation satellites. In response, the Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS) has been striving to provide user-friendly satellite images by introducing the concept of Analysis Ready Data (ARD) and defining its requirements as CEOS ARD for Land (CARD4L). In ARD, a mask called an Unusable Data Mask (UDM), identifying unnecessary pixels for land analysis, should be provided with a satellite image. UDMs include clouds, cloud shadows, terrain shadows, etc. Terrain shadows are generated in mountainous terrain with large terrain relief, and these areas cause errors in analysis due to their low radiation intensity. previous research on terrain shadow detection focused on detecting terrain shadow pixels to correct terrain shadows. However, this should be replaced by the terrain correction method. Therefore, there is a need to expand the purpose of terrain shadow detection. In this study, to utilize CAS500-4 for forest and agriculture analysis, we extended the scope of the terrain shadow detection to shaded areas. This paper aims to analyze the potential for terrain shadow detection to make a terrain shadow mask for South and North Korea. To detect terrain shadows, we used a Hill-shade algorithm that utilizes the position of the sun and a surface's derivatives, such as slope and aspect. Using RapidEye images with a spatial resolution of 5 meters and Sentinel-2 images with a spatial resolution of 10 meters over the Korean Peninsula, the optimal threshold for shadow determination was confirmed by comparing them with the ground truth. The optimal threshold was used to perform terrain shadow detection, and the results were analyzed. As a qualitative result, it was confirmed that the shape was similar to the ground truth as a whole. In addition, it was confirmed that most of the F1 scores were between 0.8 and 0.94 for all images tested. Based on the results of this study, it was confirmed that automatic terrain shadow detection was well performed throughout the Korean Peninsula.

Face Recognition by Fiducial Points Based Gabor and LBP Features (특징점기반 Gabor 및 LBP 피쳐를 이용한 얼굴 인식)

  • The accuracy of a real facial recognition system can be varied according to the accuracy of the eye detection algorithm when we design and implement a semi-automatic facial recognition algorithm depending on the eye position of a database. In this paper, a fully automatic facial recognition algorithm is proposed such that Gabor and LBP features are extracted from fiducial points of a face graph which was created by using fiducial points based on the eyes, nose, mouth and border lines of a face, fitted on the face image. In this algorithm, the recognition performance could be increased because a face graph can be fitted on a face image automatically and fiducial points based LPB features are implemented with the basic Gabor features. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can be used in real-time recognition for more than 1,000 faces and produce good recognition performance for each data set.

  • A method detecting the position of eyes and tracking a gaze point of eyes in realtime using POSIT is suggested in this paper. This algorithm find out a candidate area of eyes using topological characteristics of eyes and then decides the center of eyes using physical characteristics of eyes. To find the eyes, a nose and a mouth are used for POSIT. The experimental results show that proposed method effectively performed detection of eyes in facial image in FERET databases and gave high performance when used for tracking a gaze point of eyes.

Development of Smart Tape Attachment Robot in the Cold Rolled Coil with 3D Non-Contact Recognition (3D 비접촉 인식을 이용한 냉연코일 테이프부착 로봇 개발)

  • Recently taping robot with smart recognition function have been studied in the coil manufacturing field. Due to the difficulty of 3D surface processing from the complicated working environment, it is not easy to accomplish smart tape attachment motion with non-contact sensor. To solve these problems the applicable surface recognition algorithm and a flexible sensing device has been recommended. In this research, the fusion method between 1D displacement and 3D laser scanner is applied for robust tape attachment about cold rolled coil. With these sensors we develop a two-step exploration and the smart algorithm for the awareness of non-aligned coil's information. In the proposed robot system for tape attachment, the problem is reduced to coil's radius searching with laser displacement sensor at first, and then position and orientation detection with 3D laser scanner. To get the movement at the robot's base frame, the hand-eye compensation between robot's end effector and sensing device should be also carried out respectively. In this paper, we examine the auto-coordinate transformation method in the calibration step for the real environment usage. From the experimental results, it was shown that the taping motion of robot had a robust under the non-aligned cold rolled coil.

Pediatric Orbital Medial Wall Trapdoor Fracture with Normal Computed Tomography Findings

  • With advances in diagnostic technology, radiologic diagnostic methods have been used more frequently, and physical examination may be neglected. The authors report a case of pediatric medial orbital trapdoor fracture in which the surgery was delayed because computed tomography (CT) findings did not indicate bone displacement, incarceration of rectus muscle, or soft tissue herniation. A healthy 6-year-old boy was admitted to the emergency room for right eyebrow laceration. We could not check eyeball movement or diplopia, because the patient was irritable. Thus, we performed facial CT under sedation, but there was normal CT finding. Seven days later, the patient visited our hospital due to persistent nausea and dizziness. We were able to perform a physical examination this time. Lateral gaze of right eye was limited. CT still did not show any findings suggestive of fracture, but we decided to perform exploratory surgery. We performed exploration, and found no bone displacement, but discovered entrapped soft tissue. We returned the soft tissue to its original position. The patient fully recovered six weeks later. To enable early detection and treatment, thorough physical examination and CT reading are especially needed when the patient shows poor compliance, and frequent follow-up observations are also necessary.

Face Tracking Using Face Feature and Color Information (색상과 얼굴 특징 정보를 이용한 얼굴 추적)

  • TIn this paper, we find the face in color images and the ability to track the face was implemented. Face tracking is the work to find face regions in the image using the functions of the computer system and this function is a necessary for the robot. But such as extracting skin color in the image face tracking can not be performed. Because face in image varies according to the condition such as light conditions, facial expressions condition. In this paper, we use the skin color pixel extraction function added lighting compensation function and the entire processing system was implemented, include performing finding the features of eyes, nose, mouth are confirmed as face. Lighting compensation function is a adjusted sine function and although the result is not suitable for human vision, the function showed about 4% improvement. Face features are detected by amplifying, reducing the value and make a comparison between the represented image. The eye and nose position, lips are detected. Face tracking efficiency was good.

Font Change Blindness Triggered by the Text Difficulty in Moving Window Technique (움직이는 창 기법에서의 덩이글 난이도에 따른 글꼴 변화맹)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate font change blindness based on text difficulty in the "Moving Window Task", as originally introduced by McConkie and Rayner(1975). During the reading process where the moving window was applied, different target words in terms of font style compared to the text were presented. As participants' gaze reached the position of the target word, the font of the target word was changed to match the text font. The font of the target word before the change was either sans-serif when the text font was serif, or serif when the text font was sans-serif. After completing the reading task, more than half of the participants(62.5%) reported not detecting the font change. Observation of eye movements at the target word positions revealed that when understanding the content within the text was difficult, there was an increase in the number of regressions, an extended gaze duration, and a reduction in saccade length. Specifically, the increase in the number of regressions was evident only when the text font was serif, in other words, when the font of the target word shifted from sans-serif to serif. These results suggest that sensory interference unrelated to content understanding is not easily detected during reading. However, the possibility of detection increases when comprehension of the content becomes challenging. Furthermore, this exceptional detection possibility implies that it may be higher when the text font is serif compared to when it is sans-serif.

Individual Ortho-rectification of Coast Guard Aerial Images for Oil Spill Monitoring (유출유 모니터링을 위한 해경 항공 영상의 개별정사보정)

  • Accidents in which oil spills occur intermittently in the ocean due to ship collisions and sinkings. In order to prepare prompt countermeasures when such an accident occurs, it is necessary to accurately identify the current status of spilled oil. To this end, the Coast Guard patrols the target area with a fixed-wing airplane or helicopter and checks it with the naked eye or video, but it was difficult to determine the area contaminated by the spilled oil and its exact location on the map. Accordingly, this study develops a technology for direct ortho-rectification by automatically geo-referencing aerial images collected by the Coast Guard without individual ground reference points to identify the current status of spilled oil. First, meta information required for georeferencing is extracted from a visualized screen of sensor information such as video by optical character recognition (OCR). Based on the extracted information, the external orientation parameters of the image are determined. Images are individually orthorectified using the determined the external orientation parameters. The accuracy of individual orthoimages generated through this method was evaluated to be about tens of meters up to 100 m. The accuracy level was reasonably acceptable considering the inherent errors of the position and attitude sensors, the inaccuracies in the internal orientation parameters such as camera focal length, without using no ground control points. It is judged to be an appropriate level for identifying the current status of spilled oil contaminated areas in the sea. In the future, if real-time transmission of images captured during flight becomes possible, individual orthoimages can be generated in real time through the proposed individual orthorectification technology. Based on this, it can be effectively used to quickly identify the current status of spilled oil contamination and establish countermeasures.
