반용융 재료의 물성치 평가에 관한 연구(I) -후방압출의 상계해석을 위한 동적 가용 속도장의 제안- (A Study on Material Characterization of Semi-Solid Materials (I) -Proposal of New Velocity Field for Upper Bound Analysis of Backward Extrusion-)

  • For material characterization of semi-solid materials, backward extrusion process, which has been used in forming of hollow-sectioned products, was analyzed by the upper bound analysis in the current study. The existing kinematically admissible velocity field was applied to steady state at which there was no change in the assumed regions of velocity field. For unsteady state, new velocity field, as a function of dead zone angle, was proposed. Through the whole analysis, fiction between die and workpiece was also considered. It has been studied how the process variables, such as friction factor and punch velocity, and material parameters, such as strength coefficient, strain rate sensitivity could affect on analysis results. Finally, by the comparison with the finite element analysis, the reliability and efficiency of the proposed velocity field were discussed.

상계요소법에 의한 축대칭 압출의 최종공정에서의 파이핑 발생에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Piping Defect at The Final Stage of Axisymmetric Extrusion by Upper Bound Element Technique)

  • The upper bound element technique(UBET) is used to analyze the final stage of the axisymmetric forward extrusion. Kinematically admissible velocity field involving curved surface of velocity discontinuity is assumed. The required power to arise the piping defect is obtained and is compared with Aviture's solution a the same condition. Conditions for inception of the cavity and development of the pipe are predicted. The internal radius of the pipe and critical length of billet are also determined. Experiments are carried out for extrusion with lead specimens to investigate the piping phenomena. The theoretically predicted results showed reasonably good agreement with the experimental observation.

비대칭 "ㄱ" 단면 앵글제품의 압출굽힘 가공에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Extru-Bending Process of the Angle Product with non-Symmetric "ㄱ" Section)

  • It was investigated that the "ㄱ" type angle product could be bended with a curvature during extrusion by extru-bending process. The bending process for the "ㄱ" type angle product can be developed by the hot metal extru-bending machine with the two punches moving in the different velocity. Because of non-symmetry of product, it is important to design the ruled surface contour of dies cavity for the welding and bending with two billets. So it is designed that the multi-hole container has two non-symmetric holes and non-symmetric contour of dies entrance. The results of the experiment show that "ㄱ" type angle product can be bended by the extrusion process and that the curvature of the product can be controlled by the velocity of punch and that the defects such as the distortion of section and the thickness change of the product and the folding and wrinkling of the product did not happen after the bending processing by the extrusion bending machine.

  • In this study, to develope the ultrasonic transducer element, the extrusion method which is the processing technique of the piezoelectric composite materials is introduced, the connectivity of the piezoelectric composite materials is the 1-3 type, and we study the properties of the materials. The electromechanical coupling factor(kt) of the materials is above 0.6, the resonance property(fr) is the thickness mode in the frequency range of 0.5 to 2 [MHz] and the acoustic impedance(Zac) is about 5 to 7 [Maryl]. From these results, it is known that the piezoelectric composite materials manufactured byt he extrusion method will be able to develope the ultrasonic transducer elements.

  • The kinematically admissible veolcity field is developed for the shapes of dead metal zone and the curving velocity distribution in the eccentric plane dies extrusion. The shape of dead metal zone is defined as the boundary surface with the maximum friction constant between the deformable zone and the rigid zone. The curving phenomenon in the eccentric lane dies is caused by the eccentricity of plane dies. The axial velocity distribution in the plane dies is divided in to the uniform velocity and the deviated velocity. The deviated velocity is linearly changed with the distance from the center of cross-section of the workpiece. The results show that the curvature of products and the shapes of the dead metal one are determined by the minimization of the plastic work and that the curvature of the extruded products increase with the eccentricity.

  • In this study, an axi-symmetric finite element program for elastic analysis of the die set shrink fitted in cold extrusion was developed. The geometrical constraint according to shrink fit was enforced by employing the Lagrange multiplier method. The numerical results for strain and stress distributions in the die set including single and multi stress rings assembled by shrink fit were compared well with the Lame's equation for thick-walled solution available in the literature. To extend the applicability of the analysis program developed, various cases without or with stress ring and with pre-stress applied on stress ring were numerically investigated as well. This numerical approach enables the optimization study to determine optimal dimensions of die set to improve tool life for practical use in industry.

펀치 형상에 따른 Housing Lower 최적 공정 설계 (Optimal Design of the Punch Shape for a Housing Lower)

  • In the current paper, a cold forging sequence was developed to manufacture a precisely cold forged H/Lower, which is used as the air back unit in commercial automobiles. The preform shape of the H/Lower influences the dimensional accuracy and stiffness of the final product. The shape factor (SF) ratio and shape of the tools are considered as the design parameters to achieve adequate backward extrusion height and maintain appropriate thickness variations. The optimal conditions of the design parameters were determined by using an artificial neural network (ANN). To experimentally verify the optimal preform and tool shapes, the experiments of the backward extrusion of the H/Lower were executed. The process design methodology proposed in the current paper, can provide a more systematic and economically feasible means for designing the preform and tool shapes for cold forging.

  • The twisting and extrusion process of the product with trapezoidal helical fin from the round billet is developed by the upper bound analysis. The twisting of extruded product is caused by the twisted die surface connecting the die entrance section and the die exit section linearly. In the analysis, the rotational velocity in angular direction is assumed by the multiplication of radial distance and angular velocity. The angular velocity is increased linearly by axial distance from the die entrance. The increase rate of angular velocity is determined by the minimization of plastic work. The results of the analysis show that the angular velocity of the extruded product increases with the die twisting angle, the reduction of area, and decreases with the die length, the friction condition.

  • Extrusion is one of the most important operations in the polymer-processing industry. Development of models for extrusion and computer tools offer a route to developing reliable and optimized process designs. The models are based on the analysis of physical phenomena encountered during the process. Balance equations for mass, momentum and energy are fundamental to the problem. A predictive computer model has been developed for the single screw extruders with conventional screws of different geometry. The model takes into account melting zones of the extruder and describes an operation of the extruder system, making it possible to predict mass flow rate of the polymer, pressure and velocity profiles along the extruder screw channel. The simulation parameters are the material and rheological properties of the polymer; the screw pitch, and screw speed.

NURBS 곡면과 면적사상법을 이용한 압출 금형 곡면의 표현방법에 관한 연구 (Investigation on the Description Method of Extrusion Die Surface using NURBS Surface and Area Mapping Method)

  • In order to construct the extrusion die surface of arbitrarily shaped sections, an automatic surface construction method based on NURBS surface and area mapping method is proposed in the present work. A center point fur area mapping is determined by introducing the mapping concept based on constant area proportionality between original billet and final product. The characteristic points of inlet profile are determined using the traditional area mapping method and the root finding numerical method. The inlet and outlet profiles are precisely described with NURBS curves using the characteristic points of entry and exit sections. For the construction of NURBS surface, an interpolation method for the pre-determined two section curves has been developed to be used in the generation of interior control points and weights. To show the validity of the proposed method, automatic die surface generation is carried out for the several kinds of shaped sections.
