  • We give criterions for a submanifold to be an extrinsic sphere and to be a totally geodesic submanifold by observing some Frenet curves of order 2 on the submanifold. We also characterize constant isotropic immersions into arbitrary Riemannian manifolds in terms of Frenet curves of proper order 2 on submanifolds. As an application we obtain a characterization of Veronese embeddings of complex projective spaces into complex projective spaces.

  • Nowadays, owing to the diffusion of smartphones and the growth of social networking services (SNS), the number of people who share their life with other SNS users by posting photos is increasing. The number of Instagram users has been particularly increasing since Instagram started its service in 2010. Compared to other SNS such as Facebook and Twitter, Instagram runs its service by focusing solely on photos, which is a major differentiation factor compared with other existing SNS. Previous studies, however, do not examine SNS that focus on photo sharing adequately. Therefore, we establish a hypothesis relating to the motivations behind a user's photo sharing attitude and posting intention through Instagram. Moreover, this will be achieved by employing TRA(Theory of Reasoned Action) and focusing on intrinsic and extrinsic motivations. The analysis results show that intrinsic motivation influences a user's sharing attitude and subjective norms. Apart from this, Instagram's expressivity influences a user's photo sharing attitude and posting intention.

  • In this work, first, a multiuser detection (MUD) algorithm based on component-level soft interference cancellation and linear minimum mean square error (CLSIC-LMMSE) is proposed, which can enhance the bit error ratio (BER) performance of the traditional SIC-LMMSE-based MUD by mitigating error propagation. Second, for non-binary low density parity check (NB-LDPC) coded high-order modulation systems, when the proposed algorithm is integrated with partial mapping, the receiver with iterative detection and decoding (IDD) achieves not only better BER performance but also significantly computational complexity reduction over the traditional SIC-LMMSE-based IDD scheme. Extrinsic information transfer chart (EXIT) analysis and numerical simulations are both used to support the conclusions.

  • Self-consolidating concrete (SCC) is a recently developed innovative construction material. SCC fills in a formwork without any vibrating consolidation, which allows us to eventually achieve robust casting. However, high formwork lateral pressure exerted by SCC is a critical issue regarding its application as cast-in-place concrete. In order to control the risk caused by high formwork pressure, a comprehensive prediction model for the pressure was previously proposed, investigated, and validated with various SCC mixtures. The model was originally designed to simulate the intrinsic pressure response of SCC mixtures while excluding other extrinsic influencing factors such as friction and flexibility of the formwork. The model was then extended to consider extrinsic factors such as friction between SCC mixtures and formwork. In addition, other interesting topics for peak formwork pressure and mineral admixture effects were summarized in the paper.

  • This paper proposes a method of estimating the lifetime distribution at use condition for constant stress accelerated lift tests when extrinsic failure mode as well as intrinsic one exists. A mixture of two log-normal distributions is introduced to describe these failure modes and it is assumed that a linear relation exists between the location parameter and stress. An estimation procedure using the expectation and maximization algorithm is proposed and a numerical example is given.

  • For the self-aligned AlGaAs/GaAs HBTs, the surface states at the interface between the extrinsic base surface and the passivation nitride is a major cause of degradation of dc characteristics. In this paper the degradation mechanisms of self-aligned AlGaAs/GaAs HBT were analyzed, and GaAs HBTs, which employed an InGaP ledge emitter structure formed by the nonself-aligned process to cover the surface of the extrinsic base and reduce the surface states, produced high reliability. Accoridng to the acceleration lifetime test, the nonself-aligned InGaP/GaAs HBTs produced very reliable dc characteristics comparing with the self-aligned AlGaAs/GaAs HBTs. The activation energy was 1.97eV and MTTF $4.8{\times}10^{8}$ hrs at $140^{\circ}C$ which satisfied the MIL standard.

  • Extrinsic laryngeal muscles are well known to be important for the classical singers. We tried to elucidate any differences in the function of above muscles between trained and untrained singers by non-invasive surface electromyography(EMG). Four trained sopranos and four untrained singers sang vowel /i/ at different pitch(E3, G3, C4, E4, G4, C5, E5, G5, C6). The EMG activities of the suprahyoid, infrahyoid and omohyoid muscles were measured using surface electrodes. In trained singers, infrahyoid muscle activities increased more than those of suprahyoid in most of pitch. To the contrary, in untrained singers, the pattern of EMG activities were variable among each subjects and the EMG activities of suprahyoid muscles were relatively greater than those of infrahyoid.

  • In this paper, the effect of base and collector structures on DC, small signal characteristics of SiGe HBTs fabricated by RPCVD was investigated. The structure of SiGe HBTs was designed into four types as follows: SiGe HBT structures which are standard, apply extrinsic-base SEG selective epitaxial growth (SEG), apply selective collector implantation (SCI), and apply both extrinsic-base SEG and SCI. We verified the devices could be applied to the fabrication of RFIC chip through a fully integrated 2.4 GHz down-conversion mixer.

  • In recent years, there has been a remarkable progress in the development of the fiber optic sensors for the detection of various chemicals. Fiber optic sensors have the advantages of very small size, flexibility and low cost. The fiber optic sensors employing different optical or spectroscopic phenomena have been reported such as bulk absorption, optical reflectance, fluoresces and energy transfer. In this study, the effect of nanoparticle concentration in liquid upon light absorption and scattering was studied using extrinsic fiber optic method. For the evaluation, we used Red (650 nm) and Blue (430 nm) light sources which are coupled through the standard cuvette using optical fiber to detector. The experiments are carried out with Polystyrene latex (400 - 800 nm), and Silicon (35 - 110 nm) nanoparticles suspended in Isopropanol. Differences in light absorption and scattering depending on nanoparticle concentration and type are discussed. This method may be useful to study nanoparticles properties for various application and research.

  • Cardiomyopathy (CMP) is a heterogeneous disease caused by a functional abnormality of the cardiac muscle. CMP is of 2 major types, dilated and hypertrophic, and is further classified as either primary or secondary. Secondary CMP is caused by extrinsic factors, including infection, ischemia, hypertension, and metabolic disorders. Primary CMP is diagnosed when the extrinsic factors of secondary CMP are absent. Furthermore, the World Health Organization, American Heart Association, and European Cardiology Association have different systems for clinically classifying primary CMP. Primary CMP is rare and associated with a family history of the disease, implying that genetic factors might affect its incidence. In addition, the incidence of CMP varies widely according to patient ethnicity. Genetic testing plays an important role in the care of patients with CMP and their families because it confirms diagnosis, determines the appropriate care for the patient, and possibly affects patient prognosis. The diagnosis and genetic identification of CMP in patients' families allow the possibility to identify novel genes that may lead to new treatments. This review focuses on the epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of CMP, with the aim of providing pediatricians with insights that may be helpful in the early identification and management of idiopathic CMP in children.
