  • In this paper, we study the $Carath{\acute{e}}odory$ extremal problems on the Hua domain of the first three types. We give the explicit formula for the $Carath{\acute{e}}odory$ extremal problems between the first three types of Hua domain and the unit ball, which improves the works done on Hua domain and Cartan-egg domain and super-Cartan domain.

  • A matrix completion problem has been exploited amply because of its abundant applications and the analysis of contractions enables us to have insight into structure and space of operators. In this article, we focus on a specific completion problem related to Hankel partial contractions. We provide concrete necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of completion of Hankel partial contractions for both extremal and non-extremal types with lower dimensional matrices. Moreover, we give a negative answer for the conjecture presented in [8]. For our results, we use several tools such as the Nested Determinants Test (or Choleski's Algorithm), the Moore-Penrose inverse, the Schur product techniques, and a congruence of two positive semi-definite matrices; all these suggest an algorithmic approach to solve the contractive completion problem for general Hankel matrices of size $n{\times}n$ in both types.

  • We study some extremal problems on the Cartan-Hartogs domains. Through computing the minimal circumscribed Hermitian ellipsoid of the Cartan-Hartogs domains, we get the $Carath\acute{e}odory$ extremal mappings between the Cartan-Hartogs domains and the unit hyperball, and the explicit formulas for computing the $Carath\acute{e}odory$ extremal value.

  • Let $W_{\alpha}$, be a recursively generated quadratically hyponormal weighted shift with a weight sequence ${\alpha}$ : 1, (1, $\sqrt{x}$, $\sqrt{y}$)$^{\wedge}$. In [4] Curto-Jung showed that R = {(x,y) : $W_{1,\;(1,\;{\sqrt{x}},\;{\sqrt{y}})^{\wedge}}$ is quadratically hyponormal} is a closed convex with nonempty interior, which guarantees that there are a lot of quadratically hyponormal weighted shifts with first two equal weights. They suggested a problem computing expressions of certain extremal points of R. In this note we obtain a partial answer of their extremal problem.

  • In this paper, we study on a higher order extremal problem relating the Ahlfors map associated to the pair of a finitely connected domain in the complex plane and a point there. We show the power of the Ahlfors map with some error term which is conformally equivalent maximizes any higher order derivative of holomorphic functions at the given point in the domain.

  • In this paper we investigate the origin of the variational calculus with respect to the extremal principle. We also study the role the extremal principle has played in the development of the calculus of variations. We deal with Dido's isoperimetric problem, Maupertius's least action principle, brachistochrone problem, geodesics, Johann Bernoulli's principle of virtual work, Plateau's minimal surface and Dirichlet principle.

  • In this paper we find the Laurent series expansions representing the reproducing kernels. Also we find the number of zeroes of the exact Bergman kernel via parallel slit domain in order to relate the exact Bergman kernel to an extremal problem.

  • In this paper, we define near-minimal shadow and study the existence problem of extremal Type I binary self-dual codes with near-minimal shadow. We prove that there is no such codes of length n = 24m + 2($m{\geq}0$), n = 24m + 4($m{\geq}9$), n = 24m + 6($m{\geq}21$), and n = 24m + 10($m{\geq}87$).

  • Given a closed subset of the family $S^{*}(\alpha)$ of functions starlike of order $\alpha$, a continuous Frechet differentiable functional J, is constructed with this collection as the solution set to the extremal problem ReJ(f) over $S^{*}(\alpha)$. The support points of $S^{*}(\alpha)$ is completely characterized and shown to coincide with the extreme points of its convex hulls. Given any finite collection of support points of $S^{*}(\alpha)$ a continuous linear functional J, is constructed with this collection as the solution set to the extremal problem ReJ(f) over $S^{*}(\alpha)$.
