Objectives : We conducted this study to investigate the relationship between sleep duration and body mass index (BMI), in Korean children. Methods : We performed a cross-sectional analysis of data collected on 3,639 boys and girls (aged 7-12) in Daegu, Korea. The data included each child's age, sex, weight, height, extracurricular activities, bedtime, wake-up time, sleep latency, total sleep duration, parents' occupations, and parents' educational levels. The relationship between sleep duration and each variable was examined via analysis of variance (ANOVA). Results : The analysis showed an association between short sleep duration and high BMI. Boys showed a graded inverse relationship between sleep duration and BMI. However, there was no significant corresponding result for girls. In the total sample, hours of computer use, time when the computer was turned off, time when the television was turned off, mother's bedtime, and hours of extracurricular activity were associated with longer sleep duration. No association was found between sleep duration and hours of watching television, child's wake-up time, or educational level of the parents. Conclusion : The results of this study show an inverse relationship between a child's sleep duration and BMI；thus, children with shorter sleep duration tend to have higher BMIs.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the status of internet addiction, internet expectancy, and self-efficacy in elementary school students. Method: The study was carried out during the period from June 16 to July 12, 2003. The subjects in the study were 397 elementary students attending four elementary schools in Chungcheongbuk-do and Kyunggi-do. Self-rating questionnaire included general characteristics, internet addiction scale, internet expectancy scale, and self-efficacy scale. Data was analyzed using SPSS/WIN10.0 by unpaired t-test and Pearson corelation coefficient. Result: In this study, the mean score of internet addiction was 20.7. Internet dangerous group was 12.6% and internet addicticted group was 0.3%. The score of internet addiction was significantly different according to parents' concern, aversion to school life and extracurricular lecture. The mean score of internet expectancy was 27.1. The score of Internet expectancy was significantly different according to popularity among friends and easiness of making friends. The mean score of self-efficacy was 55.8. The score of self-efficacy was significantly different according to conversation with parents, enforcement of parents on learning, aversion to school life, aversion to extracurricular lecture, existence of intimate friend, popularity among friends(p=.000), and easiness of making friends. Conclusion: This study showed that prevalence of internet addiction was much lower than expected, but the score of internet addiction and internet expectancy can be different according to parents' concern and relationship with friends. Therefore parents must be concerned about their children and their school lives to prevent internet addiction.

In order to provide a desirable direction for the health education on preventing smoking of elementary school students, by understanding the views held by elementary school teachers on smoking prevention education, 529 teachers at elementary schools located in Seoul were responded by constructed questionnaires during the period of Nov. 15 to Dec. 18 1999. The results of the survey analysis were as follows: 1. 91.9% of the respondents said that schools should offer education programs on preventing smoking, and this view was more strongly shared by teachers with religions than non-religious ones. 2. 37.6% of teachers responded that the education should start with 4th-5th graders, while 36.0% opted for 6th grades. With regard to the appropriate class in providing such education, 41.1% selected physical education (PE), followed by extracurricular activity class with 28.8%, 45.1% of the respondents said discussion would be the most effective education method, while 39.9% recommended using experiments. fall in diseases and growth and developmental defect were pointed out as the most interesting topic for students by 33.2% and 28.1% of the surveyed, respectively. As for the most effective media for education, 57.2% recommended video, followed by computer games(19.2%) and cartoons (20.0%). 64.1% of the teachers picked school nurses as the most appropriate person in carrying out the education. The results of the finding show that it would be most desirable to provide health education on preventing smoking to senior elementary schoolers during the PE or extracurricular activity class by school nurses. The program would be structured to first show video clips on growth and developmental defect or fall in diseases resulting from smoking and to have discussions or experiments on related matters.

In this study, for students who gave up their studies midway through college, we investigate the reasons for dropping out of college, analyze the factors that caused students to drop out, and suggest improvement measures to effectively increase the recruitment rate of enrolled students. This study explores measures to increase student enrollment in community colleges. For this purpose, it conducted a survey of students who dropped out of G College between 2018 and 2020 from June 28 to July 9, 2021. Its analysis is based on the results of 53 students who participated in the survey. First, our results suggest that programs to develop interpersonal relationships between students, faculty, and staff are necessary. Such programs will cultivate a culture of solidarity and collective identity among students, which in turn will reinforce positive experiences in college. Moreover, by developing systems to form relationships between faculty and students, colleges can have a feedback mechanism, such as an open-study program, through which they learn what the students want and need. Through this effort, colleges can help their students adjust to campuses and enhance student satisfaction in college. Second, it is necessary to develop various extracurricular programs not only for freshmen but existing students and to run hobby and leisure activity programs. To have continuous, standing extracurricular programs instead of one-time events, colleges should set up specific goals, delivery methods and strategies. Third, colleges should renovate old and outdated buildings and facilities on campus to enhance the quality of campus life. Moreover, more comprehensive improvement of facilities and a campus environment by having various convenient and leisure facilities that meet the needs and demands of students. Fourth, it is suggested to develop programs or systems that help students to more fully engage in campus lives and activities, which in turn increases confidence and self-efficacy among students. Through such programs, students can better adjust to their majors and, therefore, will be less likely to drop out of college.

The 7th National Curriculum requires the part of a school library for supporting porformance evaluation, optional actives, and extracurricular activities. The school library which is very important part of school education needs support of necessary resources and adequate facilities for performing its functions effectively and efficiently. This reserch is based on the school library for present education to need. And, the objective of this reserch is to grasp the present condition of school library and to show improvement device for planning efficiently the time when school library is designed in future.

Background: A new admission procedure was introduced to Korea when Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm. D.) program was first established in 2011. In the new procedure, applicants are reviewed based on quantitative qualifications, which include Pharmacy Education Eligibility Test (PEET) scores, Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) scores, and grade point average (GPA), as well as qualitative qualifications such as essay writing, extracurricular activities including volunteer experiences. Purpose: This study aimed to find relationships between entrance qualifications and academic performance of pharmacy students. Method: Entrance qualifications and academic performance of 164 first-year students were analyzed from 2011 to 2013 at Catholic University of Daegu. Other characteristics such as age and gender were also considered in the study. Results: Only GPA and TOEIC scores showed positive Pearson correlation with academic performance, while PEET scores did not. Conclusion: GPA and TOEIC scores could potentially have predictive validity for academic performance in pharmacy school. PEET scores, however, should simply be considered as pre-entrance qualifications, without predictive validity for academic performance.

컴퓨터와 통신의 발달은 멀티미디어 개발 및 보급에 기여하였으며, 특히 인쇄매체를 대체하고 '전자'화된 전자교과서 시대를 열었다. 그리하여 그 동안 많은 전자교과서 모형 설계 및 개발이 이루어져 왔으며, 그 효과 또한 입증 된 바 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 전자교과서의 이점을 살려 초등학교 특별활동 의식행사 활성화에 기여하고자 한다. 현행 초등학교에서 특별활동 일환으로 실시되고 있는 의식행사는 '교과교육 외의 활동'으로 취급 되어 지면서, 교과서 없이 지도서만 가지고 형식적이고 한시적인 내부계획에 따라 진행 되었다. 이에 초등학교 특별활동 의식행사 전자교과서 모형 개발을 제안한다. 이 모형은 학습자로 하여금 다양한 멀티미디어 자료 학습을 통해 흥미와 관심을 갖고 의식행사에 참여할 수 있게 설계 하였으며, 기존의 전자교과서 기능에서 전자노트 기능을 추가하였다. 또한 교수자 측면에서는 전자교과서를 쉽고 간단하게 학습에 적용시킬 수 있도록, 학습모형에 기반 하여 설계함은 물론, 학습자료 구성하기 및 훈화자료 만들기 시스템을 통해 전자교과서의 활용 폭을 넓혔다.

English teaching in the elementary school of Korea had been put into practice as an extracurricular activity from 1982 till 1996. But a TEFL program as a regular course in the elementary school of Korea has been practiced since 1997, according to the language policy to establish early English education in all the elementary schools of Korea. The purpose of this study is to identify the current state of English teaching in the elementary school of Korea, to investigate its problems and to suggest some remedies for its improvement. For this purpose this study includes the analysis and result of the survey. The survey result points out that English teaching in the elementary school of Korea is not satisfactory and has some problems in many fields. In this connection the present study suggests some remedies for the improvement of English teaching in the elementary school of Korea.

Four observational astronomical item, have been pilottested with a 150mm refracting telescope in order to layout the detailed procedures for the suggested (inquiry) activities listed in the high school earth science curriculum and to contrive some adequate instructions for students stressed on how to make proper treatments with the collected materials. The tested items were of sunspots' motion, the size of lunar craters, the Galilian satellites' revolution, and the galactic distribution of stars. Following series of activities are suggested with respect to the way of collecting observational data and of giving proper instruction to students in class: 1) Photography and other material, he made by teacher and/or extracurricular group of students; 2) Replicas (xeroxed, photographs, Or slides) he made from the collected materials, '0 that they are available to all the students in class; 3) Quantative analyses, be taken as student' activity.

The purposes of this paper are to show that learning English via on-line English newspapers is very effective and to suggest several applications of an English newspaper on the web in English education to improve Korean speakers' English proficiency. Firstly, this paper overviews about Newspapers In Education (NIE). Secondly, a comparison between an on-line English newspaper and a traditional one is made, focusing on their advantages and characteristics. Thirdly, some ways to use various articles of a digital English newspaper in classroom instruction are explored. Lastly, the suggestions of this study are integrated into English learning instruction of an extracurricular English learning club of Business English Department. This club includes free utilization of an Internet surfing center, Internet Cafe, in a College Library. And then, a survey among the club members is conducted and its statistical results are analyzed.
