  • Objective: This research reviews and investigates the trends in recent clinical studies of polycystic kidney disease (PKD) in China. Method: We searched for clinical studies discussing Oriental medicine-based treatments for PKD in the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) database. Thirteen clinical articles published from 2001 to 2019 were analyzed. The search focused on the authors, publication year, type of study, purposes of study, method and duration of treatment, evaluation criteria, and results of the selected articles. Results: Of the articles from the database, 9 case series and 4 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were analyzed. Ten articles used herbal medicine; 4 used herbal medicine for external use. Gamigyejibokryeong-hwan was the most common herbal prescription. The most frequently used herb was Polia Sclerotium (茯苓), and Cnidii Rhizoma (川芎) was employed in all the external uses. All 13 studies confirmed the efficacy of Oriental medicine treatments. Conclusion: 1. Scientifically designed and more varied clinical studies are required to develop treatments for PKD. 2. The current study could be used as basic data in future clinical studies on treatment and further studies of PKD.

  • The Samyang-Sameum(三陽三陰) is the movement form peculiar to the cosmic dual forces. Since Byunggi(病氣) along with the Gyungkki(經氣), The Samyang-Sameum(三陽三陰) is the standard for a diagnosis of a disease's outbreak and change. Anyone of The Samyang-Sameum(三陽三陰) can cause a disease in a Gyungkki(經氣) because each and every human being has different Gyungkki(經氣). And, a disease may outbreak by anyone of Wind-Cold-Warmth-Heat(風寒溫熱). Guiding principles of the six Meridians(六經提綱) is set to diagnose which one of the Gyungkki(經氣) causes a disease. Sanghallon(傷寒論) shows several measures to diagnose the lapse of a disease at the beginning stage of external affection(外感) by Wind-Cold(風寒). It is most serious when the Jeongyung(傳經) symptom appears within 6 to 7 days after a disease outbreak since it indicates the exhaustion of true Eum(眞陰). It means the lapse of a disease that formation of dry stool(燥尸) by fast Jeonsok(轉屬) to Yangmyeong(陽明) after a Taeyang(太陽) is diseased. It also means that a position of disease is worsening by a sticking phase of disease when Yipeum(入陰) symptom after anyone of Samyang-Sameum(三陽三陰) is diseased.

  • The SangHanIlJeGeum(傷寒-提金) explain the six channel of disease. The Greater Yang controls the construction and defence, and governs the exterior of the body, which serves as the body's external barrier. Accordingly, many of the signs associated with greater yang appear in the early stages of disease. The essential features of greater yang disease are a pulse that is floating, headache, stiffness and pain of the head and nape, heateffusion, and aversion to cold. The main feature of Yang brightness disease is yang hyperactivity and heat exuberance. An evil can directly enter the yang brightness channel from the exterior, but it usually passes into the channel from the greater yang. Yang brightness disease is generally characterized by generalized heat effusion, spontaneous sweating, aversion not to cold but to heat, and a pulse that is large. Distinction is made between a heat patter and a repletion pattern.

  • King Gojong was the twenty-sixth King in the Choseon Dynasty. He took the throne when he was only 12 years old and had to set up regency for 10 years. During his period, situations were worsened in both domestic and foreign affairs. In the end, after 3 years from abdication of the throne, the Choseon Dynasty was overthrown in compliance with a coercion by Japanese empire. He died in 68 years old. We can assume that his inveterate disease are weakness of the spleen and the stomach. In addition, he suffered from a boil, a cold, dermatosis, eye disease, an external wound, dentistry disease, arthritis, etc. The official cause of his death was cerebral hemorrhage. But we assume that the possibility of poison murdering is high.

  • I studied on the correlativity with an individual constitution and etiological factor, the results are as follows. As the external wickedness invade into human body, the condition of an individual constitution determine whether being attacked with a disease or not. Moreover the contracting and the tendency of a disease are determined from the peculiarity of an individual constitution. And whether being attacked with a disease or not, the contracting and the tendency are possible explained of DONG-GI-SANG-GU(the indentical vigour looking for mutually). The division on the malice for cause of a disease and the symptom of a disease are more and more necessary.

  • Bromidrosis is a disease which is also called huchou[호격] in the oriental medicine. This disease produces an odor and a small amount of sweat from the axillary area. Prognosis of the disease could possibly get better with age. This can be explained by the fact that its symptoms begin usually when a person reaches puberty and as the person gets old, the symptoms reduce or disappear even when specific treatments are not applied. Although the disease is not lethal, many patients have difficulties in leading a normal and comfortable life, physically and psychologically with this in mind and some osbservations gained from the literature studies on the causes, symptoms, and treatments, I embarked on a study aimed at finding out the therapies. My study on the literature has produced the following results ; 1. In the oriental medicine, hu-chou[호격] means the characteric smell or odor produced from the fox. 2. The literature studies point out two causes in the oriental medicine. One is natural. The other is acquired. Acquired cases have the following causes: shi-re-nei-yun[濕熱內蘊]. xie-뱌-bu-huo[血氣不和], gan-qi-yu-jie[肝氣鬱結]. 3 There are two therapies in the oriental medicine. One is internal and the other external. out of the two, external therapies were mainly used according to the literature studies that I have consulted. 4. According to my study, the most frequently used herbal medicine was Alunitum(明 礬)(45 times), followed by Minium(密陀僧)(39 times) and Moschus(?香)(21 times respectively). 5. My study also found that bian-zheng[辨證] was not .rarely listed on old literatures. Therefore, old literatures did not clearly show how to root out the disease. They only taught now to alleviate the symptoms and remove the characteric odor.

  • In this study, carp edemavirus disease and herpesviral hematopoietic necrosis were examined in carp (Cyprinus carpio) and crucian carp (Carassius auratus) imported from China. From August 2016 to May 2017, 100 carp and 300 crucian carp were examined. There were no clinical symptoms in all the tested fish, and no internal or external parasitic infections were identified except for the detection of Argulus sp. in one leather carp. Carp edema virus disease was examined by PCR in C. carpio, but all were negative. In C. auratus, herpesviral hematopoietic necrosis was tested by PCR and 4 out of 300 were positive. The results of this study are expected to be useful as basic data for conducting risk analysis on the relevant organisms and counterpart countries or for designating new pathogens for quarantine.

  • Byeollyangchamsa has been a key factor in formation of Dongwon(東垣)'s theory on internal injuries. The majority regarded Byeollyangchamsa as just epidemic disease, while Dongwon(東垣) regarded it as internal injuries by improper diet and overstrain. However, an analysis of Dongwon(東垣)'s internal injury syndrome revealed that it was a kind of external affections caused by damp-heat. In particular, heat rather than dampness have developed as the disease got worse. Therefore It can be regarded as the serious syndrome to show the impairment of Gi(氣), blood, fluids and humors for pathogenic fire.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to explore some new therapies to control clinical symptoms of patients with terminal cancer by using external applications. Methods: We investigated some literatures on the external applications for cancer patients and made diagrams. Results: The results are summarized as follows. External applications are one of the traditional oriental medical methods and these are effective for pain control, ascites & pleural effusion and palpitable mass. It has some characteristics which are simple, safe and popular, but we must pay attention carefully to allergic reaction and toxicity in using external applications. The therapeutic portion of external applications are decided by discipline of syndrome and disease differentiation, and the prescriptions are composed of antitumor herb medicines. Conclusions: From the above results, it is expected that external applications are useful to improve clinical symptoms and quality of life(QOL) for patients with terminal cancer who cannot intake foods or medicines.
