  • We demonstrated stability-enhanced liquid crystal (LC) displays using pixel-iosolated LC mode in which LC molecules are isolated in pixel by horizontal polymer layer and vertical polymer wall. The device shows good electro-optic properties with external pressure and bending due to the polymer structures. The polymer wall acts as supporting structure from mechanical pressure and maintains the cell gap from bending. Moreover, the polymer layer acts as adhesive for tight attachment of two substrates. We presented various methods to produce the polymer structures by using anisotropic phase separation from LC and polymer composites or patterned micro-structures.

  • We have characterized the mechanical stability of the Pixel-Isolated Liquid Crystal (PILC) mode for plastic LC display applications. In our device, the LC molecules are fully isolated in the pixels by the phase-separated polymer walls. The experimental results of microscopic observation and electro-optic characterization show that our flexible PILC device has good mechanical stability against external point pressure or bending distortion due to the polymer walls in our structure.

  • The metal-to-insulator transition (MIT) with external stimuli is one of the main issues in correlated oxides. The physical properties are extremely sensitive to band filling, because the MIT is attributed to the strong correlation between electrons in narrow d-band. Since hydrogen is the smallest and lightest element, it is not only likely to doped reversibly in oxides, but also acts as a dopant to provide electrons. The correlated oxides showing MIT are structurally expanded after hydrogenation, and their electrical properties are drastically changed. Researches on this phenomenon have been actively carried out to date. They are of great scientific importance, and the use of this material is very diverse, including the development of next-generation hydrogen sensor, or hydrogen-based neuromorphic devices.

  • Korean core banking system has been redeveloped twice in the last 30 years with big-bang method, but still needs innovation to meet everlasting business changes. The objective of this study is to identify which decision criteria lead to replacement decision of core baning system in spite of its huge investment and accompanying business risk. For the study, we conducted a survey to 64 decision makers working in banks and IT service companies, and analysed the data using factor analysis and multi-regression analysis method of SPSS. As a result, we extracted statistically valid decision model with 4 major decision criteria, which are IT external, IT internal, IT ecology and Executive's will factor. Among them, we concluded only IT internal and IT ecology criteria give significant influence over the replacement decision of existing core banking system.

  • In this paper we suggest a context-driven configuration model of virtual businesses to form a business network model consisting of role-based, interaction-centered business partners. The model makes use of the subcontext concept which explicitly represents actors and interactions in virtual business (VB) context. We separate actors who have capacities on tasks in a specific kind of role and actor subcontext which models requirements in specific interaction subcontext. Three kinds of actors are defined in virtual service chains, service user, service provider, and external service supporter. Interaction subcontext models a service exchange process between two actor subcontexts with consideration of context dependencies like task and quality dependencies. Each subcontext may be modeled in the form of a situation network which consists of a finite set of situation nodes and transitions. A specific situation is given in a corresponding context network of actors and interactions. It is illustrated with a simple example.

  • Diacetylene lipid monomers possess the capability to self-assemble into vesicles via polymerization under ultraviolet irradiation, resulting in the formation of polydiacetylene (PDA) liposomes. Exposure of the polymerized vesicles to external stimuli is known to induce a unique blue-to-red color transition. The cyclic oligosaccharide ${\alpha}$-cyclodextrin known for its use in many applications, such as drug delivery, purification, and stimulus sensing, is able to form an inclusion complex with poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) in aqueous solution. In this study, we prepared polymeric liposomes with PEG (PEG-PDA) with the aim of improving the stability of the vesicles and colorimetric response toward ${\alpha}$-cyclodextrin. We demonstrated that PEG-PDA liposome displays unique characteristics compared with native PDA liposome and it also shows apparent chromic properties of the inclusion complex formation with ${\alpha}$-cyclodextrin.

  • Recently companies are aggressively pushing ahead with integrating the systematical applications of internal and external information systems such as Data level, Application level, Process level in the company, Process level between companies. The EAI solution is generally considered as the necessary tool to integrate companies, but the appraisal standard for the EAI solution has not yet settled in Korea, so the companies have difficulty in deciding whether to adopt the EAI solution or not. Through this report, we first introduce the KRA Project as the best practice in making an application of the settled standard to evaluate and adopt the EAI solution, and then suggest that it can be adapted to companies considering applying to the EAI solution.

  • Recently, the vibration reduction at a local structure such as compass deck has been continuously requested by ship owner and shipbuilder. Because crews are afflicted with vibration, severe vibration problems even bring about a damage of structure. This study conducted to get an optimized stiffener size of compass deck to reduce the vibration level and decrease the weight of structure in ship. NASTRAN external call type optimization software (OptShip) which makes use of NASTRAN as a solver is used as an optimization tool. The results indicate that the optimum design is promising for real applications.

  • This paper aims to empirically examine how personal characteristics and social influence affect user acceptance of mobile web browsing service. To examine the intention to use mobile web browsing service, we applied the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) which has been widely used to explain and predict the IT acceptance to this study. This research also includes personal characteristics such as computer self-efficacy, mobile self-efficacy, and personal innovativeness in IT and social influences such as subjective norms, image, and visibility as the external variables of the TAM. The results indicate that computer self-efficacy do not directly influence ease of use, but indirectly through mobile self-efficacy. And the results indicate that mobile self-efficacy and personal innovativeness in IT have direct effects on ease of use. Empirical results also show that subjective norms and image affect usefulness. Additional theoretical and practical implications of these findings are also discussed in the paper.

  • Crowdsourcing is a popular tool for firms to harness external knowledge and resources. One variation of crowdsourcing entails the use of corporate channels in social network services (SNS) such as Twitter to hold public idea competitions. This study examined the role of feedback interaction between participants of idea competitions. More specifically, the study examined the impact of incentives to provide feedback on other participants' ideas. We found that idea competitions where explicit incentives were introduced to elicit crowdsourced feedback in the form of qualitative comments resulted in improved idea generation performance-with more ideas generated overall, and more ideas generated through participant collaborations, through increased comment-posting activities. Based on the findings, implications for theory and practice are discussed.
