  • Until now, the carriage's design has been performed by built-carriage engineers in urban railway company without the notion of railway design. Furthermore, there is no prominent change the shape of exterior and interior design between the 1970's trains and the latest one. In terms of the notion of interior space, there are a lot of differences between Oriental and Western, also region of each countries. Especially, Among Orientals, Korean is not good at utilizing the small space and react effectively as compared to Japanese. Therefore, the interior space of public transportation needs to be relatively developed to highly reasonable level in Korea. The purpose of this paper is to apply vernacular design elements for developing interior design in Korean lightrail, which is the next generation public transportation. In order to develope ideal interior design, the interior layout in carriage considers the emotional aspect as well as functional one. Also, the research of vernacular design in urban train can provide national character and traditional design and can make a success in a practical use and a visual effect. This study focused on the application of vernacular design elements for developing the design-processed model will be proposed the outline of interior layout and the shape of interior trims in the public transportation in Korea.

  • MVRDV is most important architect as created interesting architectural space in contemporary architecture, and so they applies to the unique theory in their architecture. They used to architectural diagram, program, datascape, density as a design tool. Especially, they have create new architectural space and form in using architectural diagram, program, datascape, density, and void. So, this study is purposed to explain how they use as architectural tool to make composition of it's architectural space and is purpose to explain what is their main concept in architectural space. MVRDV's architectural space has fundamental methodology. That is Datascape on uncertainty and continuity between urban space and architectural space. The former consist in using diagram and architectural program and the latter consist in operating architectural void and inner continuity surface. The conclusion is follows 1. The mode of spacial composition by architectural void is correspond density of city as MVRDV's architectural thinking. 2. The mode of spacial composition by architectural program is ambiguous to the boundary between inner and exterior space by transparency. 3. The mode of spacial composition by architectural diagram make to generate the architectural form and space, through the reinterpretation and relocation of architectural program. 4. The mode of spacial composition inner continuity plane is make relative between site and inner space.

  • The protection of Design is very important issues in these days. Even though Interior Design is also one of important design sections, it is relatively unprotected by formal intellectual property laws, yet creativity and innovation flourish. The needs for protection of Interior Design have been creased. The aim of this study is to suggest the weakness of the system for protection of Interior Design. The proposed research is comprised of two themes. One is to research Acts related to protection of Interior Design. The second is to study the registered cases under the Design Protection Acts. These two theme is generated by the comparative review between ROK and U.S.A. Through these comparative results, this study propose some considerations for an effective protection for Interior Design. Design need to be registered in the hole image of the space not a partial element. The concept needs to be protected because it is more effective way to respond the copying. Exterior for facade and Interior Design need to be registered in one registration to use the protection system actively.

  • Optical discs' capacity has increased. In case of Blu-Disc, it can store data up to 25 GB. Due to the large capacity, it can substitute tape devices for the use of backup. However, optical discs' surfaces are exposed so that it can lose data easily by exterior damages like scratches. Therefore additional reliability must be provided to maintain data for a long time. In this paper, we suggest a writing technique that gives optical discs additional reliability. Redundant data, generated by LDPC codes, are stored in disc along with the original data. These original data and redundant data are scattered over the disc to avoid losing a large part of data with one scratch. By deploying data with the distance that provides the reliability a user wants, we can enhance optical discs' reliability.

  • This paper presents a strengthening method that involves the use of ferrocement jackets and chamfers to relocate plastic hinge for non-seismically designed reinforced concrete exterior beam-column joints. An experimental study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of the proposed strengthening method. Four half-scale beam-column joints, including one control specimen and three strengthened specimens, were prepared and tested under quasi-static cyclic loading. Strengthening schemes include ferrocement jackets with or without skeleton reinforcements and one or two chamfers. Experimental results have indicated that the proposed strengthening method is effective to move plastic hinge from the joint to the beam and enhance seismic performance of beam-column joints. Shear stress and distortion within the joint region are also reduced significantly in strengthened specimens. Skeleton reinforcements in ferrocement provide limited improvement, except on crack control. Specimen strengthened by ferrocement jackets with one chamfer exhibits slight decrease in peak strength and energy dissipation but with increase in ductility as compared with that of two chamfers. Finally, a method for estimating moment capacity at beam-column interface for strengthened specimen is developed. The proposed method gives reasonable prediction and can ensure formation of plastic hinge at predetermined location in the beam.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the surface temperatures of the shelter of three public buildings in the city of Xanthi, in northern Greece. The buildings were built in different time periods and consequently they have different technical characteristics. Respectively, we survey the three following buildings that have been built in 1880 (Municipality Hall of Xanthi), in 1970 (Municipality Amphitheatre) and in 2002 (Bank offices building). Data have been gathered by the use of thermal camera and the survey has been conducted from January up to July. The data gathered regard measurements of the surface temperature of the exterior walls of the shelters, both inside and outside. The study aims at the evaluation of the thermal behavior of the shelter of buildings, which built in different time and under different regulations. The gathered data of the surface temperatures compare the different thermal behavior of the shelter. The analysis of the results and diagrams show that the thick masonry of the traditional Municipality Hall offers an insulation that is adequate. The building of 1970, which was constructed with the previous buildings regulation, has thermal losses due to inadequate insulation. The new building of 2002 has low thermal losses.

  • This study investigated how external environmentally-friendly factors adopted to improve the quality of outdoor spaces have been designed and used in the construction of apartment complexes. The goal of this study is to determine what areas should be improved through environmentally-friendly ways to create natural outdoor spaces in apartment complexes and enhance their availability and usefulness. For this study, 21 environmentally-friendly factors were chosen and a checklist by specific item was prepared. This study examine how these items were applied to basic planning, detail design, and construction in 4 target areas. As a result, it was found that the development of environmentally-friendly residential areas was an ultimate goal of the project during basic planning and design. All target areas focused on developing an inner greens network, eco-pond, brook, and pedestrian track as well as the growth of a variety of plants. Some differences have been observed, however, in terms of method. Furthermore, due to economic and technological problems and poor construction site conditions, green walls/green roofs/pedestrian tracks/use of rainwater have not been properly promoted. These kinds of problems must be improved through the development of environmentally-friendly construction methods and materials, the expansion of natural grounds areas, economic support, a satisfactory repair and maintenance system.

  • Increase in use of lightweight structures, coupled with the increased acoustic loads resulting from larger and longer range guided missiles, has made missile more susceptible to failures caused by acoustic loads. Thus, accurate prediction of acoustic environment and the response is becoming ever more important for mission success. In this paper, the acoustic response of a sandwich composite skin structure to diffuse acoustic excitation is predicted over a broad frequency range. For the low frequency acoustic analysis, coupled FE-BEM method is used where the structure is modeled using FEM and the interior and exterior fluid is modeled using BEM. For the high frequency region, statistical energy analysis is applied. The predicted acoustic level inside the structure is compared with the result from acoustic test conducted in reverberation chamber, which shows very good agreement.

  • Purpose: Suggesting a working prototype of a kinetic light shelf unit and revealing its energy efficiency by a series of building performance simulations were presented. Recently, kinetic building envelope has been an emerging technology as an innovative way to control exterior building environment, but products from many researches about the facade could not been reached to the industrialization so far. That is because its initial installation, operation and maintenance costs are still too high to use for the practical field, although buildings using kinetic envelopes could decrease their energy consumption significantly. This narrow point of view needs to be reconsidered, since buildings require great amount of energies to run their functions through the whole life and using better building components can lead to achieve much more benefits in aspects of the lifecycle cost (LCC). Method: A series of certified simulation tools like Ecotect and Green Building Studio that are normally used for researches and developments in the field of architecture were utilized. Result: Based on simulation analyses, the result of the study has showed that the proposed system definitely has adaptability to the professions and positively shows practicability as advanced integrative building envelopes with renewable energy association.
