  • This study deals with the part-machine grouping (PMG) that considers realistic manufacturing factors, such as the machine duplication, operation sequences with multiple visits to the same machine, and production volumes of parts. Basically, this study is an extension of Won(2006) that has adopted fuzzy ART neural network to group parts and machines. The proposed fuzzy ART neural network algorithm is implemented with an ancillary procedure to enhance the block diagonal solution by rearranging the order of input presentation. Computational experiments applied to large-size PMG data sets with a psuedo-replicated clustering procedure show effectiveness of the proposed approach.

  • Nielsen and Rege-Chhawchharia called a ring R right McCoy if given nonzero polynomials f(x), g(x) over R with f(x)g(x) = 0, there exists a nonzero element r ${\in}$ R with f(x)r = 0. Hong et al. called a ring R strongly right McCoy if given nonzero polynomials f(x), g(x) over R with f(x)g(x) = 0, f(x)r = 0 for some nonzero r in the right ideal of R generated by the coefficients of g(x). Subsequently, Kim et al. observed similar conditions on linear polynomials by finding nonzero r's in various kinds of one-sided ideals generated by coefficients. But almost all results obtained by Kim et al. are concerned with the case of products of linear polynomials. In this paper we examine the nonzero annihilators in the products of general polynomials.

  • A ring R is called linearly McCoy if whenever linear polynomials $f(x)$, $g(x){\in}R[x]{\backslash}\{0\}$ satisfy $f(x)g(x)=0$, there exist nonzero elements $r,s{\in}R$ such that $f(x)r=sg(x)=0$. In this paper, extension properties of linearly McCoy rings are investigated. We prove that the polynomial ring over a linearly McCoy ring need not be linearly McCoy. It is shown that if there exists the classical right quotient ring Q of a ring R, then R is right linearly McCoy if and only if so is Q. Other basic extensions are also considered.

  • This paper introduces an advanced three-phase load flow analysis algorithm in the radial distribution network. This method is an extension of the Novel method for solving radial distribution networks with the emphasis on expanding from single phase to three-phase. The proposed method involves only simple algebraic computation without any form of Jacobian matrix but has a desirable convergence characteristic. Computationally, The suggested technique is very efficient and requires less computer memory storage and maintains high execution speed. Also, the submitted process can be easily programmed and be simply extended to different types of load characteristics. A simulation results applied to the IEEE 34 bus radial distribution feeder are examined by using the MATLAB.

  • For a planar curve-sided panel with constant or linear density distributions of source or doublet in the singularity methods, Cantaloube and Rehbach show that the surface integral can be transformed into contour integral by using Stokes'formulas. As an extension of their formulations, this paper deals with a planar polygonal panel for which we derive the closed-forms of the potentials and the velocities induced by the singularity distributions. Test calculations show that the analytical evaluation of the closed-forms is superior to numerical integration (suggested by Cantaloube and Rehbach) of the contour integral. The compact and explicit expressions may produce accurate values of matrix elements of simultaneous linear equations in the singularity methods with much reduced computer time.

  • For a finite subset ${\Lambda}$ of $\mathbb{N}_0{\times}\mathbb{N}_0$, where $\mathbb{N}_0$ is the set of nonnegative integers, we say that a complex data ${\gamma}_{\Lambda}:=\{{\gamma}_{ij}\}_{(ij){\in}{\Lambda}}$ in the unit disc $\mathbf{D}$ of complex numbers has a cyclic subnormal completion if there exists a Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$ and a cyclic subnormal operator S on $\mathcal{H}$ with a unit cyclic vector $x_0{\in}\mathcal{H}$ such that ${\langle}S^{*i}S^jx_0,x_0{\rangle}={\gamma}_{ij}$ for all $i,j{\in}\mathbb{N}_0$. In this note, we obtain some sufficient conditions for a cyclic subnormal completion of ${\gamma}_{\Lambda}$, where ${\Lambda}$ is a finite subset of $\mathbb{N}_0{\times}\mathbb{N}_0$.

  • In this work, the structural response of thin-walled composite beams with pretwist angle is investigated by using a mixed beam approach that combines the stiffness and flexibility methods in a unified manner. The Reissner's semi-complimentary energy functional is used to derive the stiffness matrix that approximates the beam in an Euler-Bernoulli level for extension and bending and Vlasov level for torsion. The bending and torsion-related warpings induced by the pretwist effects are derived in a closed form. The developed theory is validated with available literature and detailed finite element structural analysis results using the MSC/NASTRAN. Pretwisted composite beams with rectangular solid and thin-walled box sections are illustrated to validate the current approach. Acceptable correlation has been achieved for cases considered in this study. The effects of pretwist and fiber orientation angles on the static behavior of pretwisted composite beams are also studied.

  • Linear high-density polyethylene (PE) was controlled to induce strain-hardening behavior by introducing a small amount of second component with an anisotropic structure. In order to form an anisotropic structure in the PE matrix, the polymer was extruded through a twin-screw extruder, and the structure was controlled by varying the extrusion conditions. Depending on conditions, the second component formed a film, thread and droplet structure. If the second component was kept rigid, the morphology evolution could be delayed and the second component could maintain its film or thread structure without further relaxation. In particular, the second component of the thread structure made a physical network and gave rise to remarkable strain hardening behavior under high extension. This study suggests a new method that induces strain hardening behavior by introducing a physically networked second component into the linear polymer melt. This result is anticipated to improve the processibility of linear polymers especially when extensional flow is dominant, and to contribute to our understanding of strain hardening behavior.

  • When the input-output record is available, the identification of a bilinear system is considered. It is assumed that the input is noise free and the output is contaminated by an additive noise. It is further assumed that the covariance matrix of the noise is known up to a factor of proportionality. The extended generalized total least squares (e-GTLS) method is proposed as one of the consistent estimators of the bilinear system parameters. Considering that the input is noise-free and that bilinear system equation is linear with respect to the system parameters, we extend the GTLS problem. The extended GTLS problem is reduced to an unconstrained minimization problem, and is solved by the Newton-Raphson method. We compare the GTLS method and the e-GTLS method in the point of the accuracy of the estimated system parameters.

  • This paper describes an extension or a pair or multiple load flow solutions and nose curve method developed for voltage stability analysis or AC power systems to AC/DC systems. In this approach the converters are regarded as voltage dependent loads. Assuming that the converters at the unstable (-mode) solution consume the same power equal to the power at the stable (+mode) solution, the unstable solutions or the nose curves arc determined. This method is very efficient since estimating voltage collapse point and voltage stability margin arc determined by a few iterations of multiple load flow solutions. Also the method has the advantages that since the structure or Jacobian matrix is same with that of AC load flow, modal analysis or voltage stability is readily applicable if desired.
