  • This paper reports a new test facility to investigate the characteristics of the thrusters mounted on the small scale underwater vehicle using Force/Torque sensor. With the test facility proposed here, No disassembly needs be made to the target vehicle, which makes us possible to get the realistic forces of the vehicle rather than the fortes of the thrusters themselves. Experimental data analyses, heave, sway, and surge, for the QI ROV are given as an example of this method.

  • In most productive facility of pharmaceutical companies, the fumigation using formaldehyde gas has been put into operation. Because formaldehyde gas is so bactericidal as to sterilize bacterial spore which can not be sterilized with usual disinfectants, it has been used for fumigation in many facilities such as facility of experimental animals, research institute and productive facility of pharmaceutical companies which are required to be high level of biological clean. However, the use of formaldehyde is recently under the strict management because of its causing of sick house and carcinogenesis. We introduce the conditions of sterilization using formaldehyde gas, the examples of sterilization using formaldehyde gas in a pharmaceutical manufacture and the problems of use of formaldehyde against environments and health. Further, we describe the characteristics and future subjects of the sterilization method using gasified oxidants such as hydrogen peroxide, peracetic acid and chlorine oxide.

  • Facility Layout Planning is concerned with how to arrange facilities necessary for production in a given space. Its objective is often to minimize the total sum of all material flows multiplied by the distance among facilities. FLP belongs to NP complete problem; i.e., the number of possible layout solutions increases with the increase of the number of facilities. Thus, meta heuristics such as Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Simulated Annealing have been investigated to solve the FLP problems. However, one of the biggest problems which lie in the existing meta heuristics including GA is hard to find an appropriate combinations of parameters which result in optimal solutions for the specific problem. The Ant System algorithm with elitist and ranking strategies is used to solve the FLP problem as an another good alternative. Experimental results show that the AS algorithm is able to produce the same level of solution quality with less sensitive parameters selection comparing to the ones obtained by applying other existing meta heuristic algorithms.

  • The ginseng field structure collapses due to snow and wind. In order to study the structural modeling of ginseng field facility wind velocity test with shading material and strength test with used and unused timber were performed. The result of wind velocity test, we knew the characteristic of shading member of ginseng facility is followed linear regression, accurately. So, we made the assigned wind-value according to wind velocity. The result of strength test, the strength value of used-timber is smaller than the unused-timber and the coefficient of variance is larger than the unused-timber.

  • Minipigs are regarded as one of the most important laboratory animal in that anatomical and physiological properties are similar to human and their reproduction efficiency is relatively higher compared to other large animal species. Particularly, several diseases that cannot be mimicked in rodent models are successfully occurred or induced in pig models therefore it has been interested in a valuable model for human diseases. Pigs are also 'standard' species in xenotransplantation research. To maximize experimental outcome using minipigs, establishment and management of proper animal facility, right animal husbandry and control of pathogens are very important. In this review, we summarized several international guidelines related with minipigs published by several companies or governments and discuss optimal conditions for providing informative ideas to the researchers who want to use minipigs in their future studies.

  • The performance of the evaporation facility of low radioactive liquid waste is studied experimentally. The evaporation facility comprises storage pools, feeding pumps, evaporation units with 1,040 sheets of cloth and air handling units. As the results of this study, it is found that the evaporation rate increases as the waste feed rate increases, the relative humidity of induced air decreases, and the air velocity increases. The modified Dalton's evaporation equation derived from experimental data is $E_h=(0.0168+0.0141V){\Delta}H$. The optimum operating conditions of the evaporation facility are waste feed rate of $4.5./hr.m^2$ and air velocity of 1.47m/sec.

  • The Outflow facility of eye ball provides crucial informations in the diagnose of ophthalmological glaucoma. Tn this study an ophthalmic outflow facility measuring device is developed and experimentally tested. This system employs pressure sensors and linear positioning device to regulate solution reservoir height, the pressure of eye ball. The experimental result show that the system works well even in harsh environment so that it can be implemented in ophthalmic practice as well as in biomedical research.

  • This paper describes the analysis of potential distribution and leakage current magnitude around the electrical fittings submerged in an underground shopping street. In the experiment, a couple of electrical utilities(outlet, fluorescent lamp) were submerged in a concrete water bath. The experimental results are expected to be utilized for the risk assessment and the safety countermeasure against the electric shock.

  • This paper presents the optimal design method of the train repair facility based on the simulation analysis. The train is divided into the power car, motorized car and passenger car for the simulation process analysis and train repair facility is composed of each subsystems such as a blast, dry and wash workshop. In simulation analysis, we consider the critical (dependent) factors and design (independent) factors for the optimal design. Therefore, a simulation optimization uses Evolution Strategy (ES) in order to find the optimal design factors. Experimental results indicate that simulation design factors are sufficient to satisfy the conditions of dependent variables. The proposed analysis method demonstrates that simulation design factors determined by the simulation optimization are appropriate for real design factors in a real situation and the accuracy and confidence for the simulation results are increased.

  • With the aging of nuclear reactors, embrittlement of the reactor pressure vessel (RPV) steel, as a consequence of routine operations, is highly probable. To ensure operational integrity and safety, prediction and mitigation of compromising damage, brought on by pressurized thermal shock (PTS) following an emergency procedure, is of utmost importance. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) codes can be employed to predict these events and have therefore been an acceptable method for such assessments. In this paper, CFD simulations of a density driven ECC state in the ROCOM facility are analyzed. Obtained numerical results are validated with the experimental measurements. Considerable attention is attributed to the boundary conditions and their influence, specifically outlet definitions, in order to determine and adequately replicate the non-active pumps in the facility. Consequent analyses focused on initial conditions as well as on the temporal discretization and inner iterations. Disparities due to different turbulent modelling approaches are investigated for standard RANS models. Based on observed trends for different cases, a definitive simulation setup has been established, results of which have been ultimately compared to the measurements.
